Public Safety Absent?

I assume CWCapital/CompassRock wants to save money, that's why there's not ONE Public Safety officer around the Oval right now, nor half an hour ago, an hour ago, etc.

So residents can do anything they like. Two dogs sitting on the Oval Fountain plaza, one person in the fountain, guys playing football on the Oval Lawn....

Enjoy, everyone, because Public Safety is gone for the day!

Even when they are there, they are really not there! They are too busy on their smart phones, reading, texting or talking.

Does it really matter at this point?

Ha! I know, they're busy I guess. But be careful, if you or us complain, they'll add more non working employees here and wammo ;;;;;;; yet another Mci for

public safety. you betcha.

Wasn’t one of the “official” reasons that they knocked down all the trees was that the Oval could then be easily seen from the new PS Oval office and the Oval PS “Doll House, never mind our so called state of the art, MCI approved, video security system? These days, I try to avoid the Oval as much as I can, when going through it, I keep my blinders on, it’s so depressing. What once was and could still be a great open green nature space (yes, people should be allowed on it, sunbathing is fine) on the order of the Central Park Sheep Meadow, is now a basically a commercial space for crap events and a Bro/OMG playground. As usual, the QOL regulation signs are ignored by the entitled ones.

Who do you think is breaking into the apartments today?!?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Not to worry. We're safe! A Public Safety officer has turned up and he's actually walking around the complex or half-way around.

Anonymous said...

So glad we pay $3500 a mnth for a one bedroom here. How much are the students paying?

Anonymous said...

We are paying MCIs for practically non-existent Public Safety, intercoms that don't work and who knows what other non existent "improvements." We have a TA and a Councilman who don't give a flying fuck. Aren't we lucky?

The fish rots from the head down. Chief McClellan has been in charge of this operation for a number of years. During that time, among other things, PS guys created and used phony parking placards to park illegally with impunity in until DOI put the pressure on the 13th and during that time four apartments were burglarized post Sandy in a two week period because PS was asleep at the switch and gave master keys to the contractors. McClellan is the same guy who, several years after rules were promulgated regarding dogs, announced that PS would enforce them. Some of these guys are competent; many are not. McClellan needs to go.

Were they all attending the upskirting seminar?

>>McClellan is the same guy who, several years after rules were promulgated regarding dogs, announced that PS would enforce them.<<

I wonder if CWCaptal instills a policy, known only to Public Safety, that dog-owners won't be "harassed" by PS. I remember when a PS officer confronted a resident about his dog being in an area the dog wasn't supposed to be in, and an altercation occurred that I'm sure was instigated by the upset dog owner. The PS officer was fired.

I think a lot that McClellan does, or rather doesn't do, is crafted by a boss over him.

We have a TA and a councilman who I'm now CONVINCED is in bed with CR & CWC. Their one goal is to drive us all out and they are doing so at a rapid rate. Watch what's left of families and older tenants vanish through 2015. Mark these words.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I don't think so at all. The TA is certainly NOT in bed with CR/CWC, and neither is Gardonick, though I think he's trying to play both ends of the RE vs. Affordable Housing situation.

Tommyboyardee said...

Get this, unregistered bikes are removed from carriage rooms since they are not registered with Public Safety. Registering a bike includes, " CW is not responsible for thefts" of property from the carriage room.

Anonymous said...

As MR I care about the issues listed on this blog because they are driving up the purchase price. The TA should have been fighting these things like NYU dorms, subpar operations to appear op costs are lower than they really should be, illegal leasing practices, and the damn renovation gouging , all of it! The TA was to negotiate on behalf of the tenants and not the new landlord/owners Brookfield. That is the problem.

As a politician a councilperson's #1 priority should be the constituents. Priority of a business deal, not just over constituents but at the expense of constituents is the biggest problem we have in PCV ST.

If a councilperson wanted to be involved in the business deal they should not take office especially on an unprecedented third term. They should not use the position in office in the business deal. Using political offices for business deals, especially RE deals, has destroyed middle class people and is probably the biggest corruption we have in NY. That is why the Moreland was so important for people and why the subpoena to REBNY should have been executed and thoroughly investigated.

Which councilmembers cried foul when the subpoena was pulled or the commission was shut down?

Which councilmembers supported Preet Bharara asking for the REBNY investigation on behalf of us constituents?
Did ours make any statements on our behalf?

At least you have bicycle storage. Coming up on two years post Sandy and six months since a DHCR order incorporating the TA/CW settlement of the reduction in services complaint, most, if not all of the 17 buildings in PCV that lost their carriage rooms still do not have the bicycle storage rooms that were part of the settlement and no one at the TA seems to be in a particular rush to do anything effective to hold CW to the terms of the agreement on this.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I put in "Garodnick REBNY investigation" into Google's search engine and didn't come up with anything pertinent.

Get this: My basement was destroyed by Sandy (that was almost two years ago), as were 16 others, and it's still not finished and there is no bike room at all.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The other day I took photos of all the bikes outside changed to playground fences. Can't believe people still don't have their bike rooms... Correction: I believe it, considering the way this place is run and what the priorities are. And, yes, where is the TA on this?

Anonymous said...

The car garages are the same policy as the bikes.

So are the Storage unit rooms.

This is the most unfriendly place to live. Not once has the TA addressed any of this hostility in policies and their pretense that laundry rooms are the biggest problem when that too is a policy issue defined by the PCVST contract dictating MacGrey give us smaller, inferior machines and understaffed technicians will be a joke when they declare a big victory fixing the bs "biggest complaint of tenants". All the subcontractor contracts will be a problem of the new owner to get them appropriately renegotiated.

Never mind the fucking dogs (which are bad enough), it seems we have a rogue human shit and piss maniac on the loose. According the the TA and ST Tenants facebooks, there is some freak who is shitting and pissing in the elevators and lobbies. OF COURSE, OUR CRACK SECURITY FORCE AND THEIR VERY EXPENSIVE MCIS FOR TENANTS CAMERAS probably won't pick up (no pun intended) the Poopertrator. The poor maintenance guy has to go and clean it up, though. If it ever happens in my building, I am calling the Board of Health over and over and over until they inspect this filthy shithole and make our lousy landlord do something about it.

The shitter and pisser in the the elvators and lobbies is either a psychopath or a student. Could be both.

Oh TA 9:45 no matter how many times you repeat it or try to make it so, that just is not one of the most important problems this community is facing. This place is all but destroyed, our purchase price is skyrocketing, all Dan cares about is the finish date on your new offices so he can move forward with your deal, our neighbors are all but illegally evicted and the NYU lease program is out of control. Get on top of a real problems or go away!

To 12:13 PM: Some of us care very much about the state of the washers/dryers because laundry facilities are part of what we are paying for in our rent.

As for the dump going condo/co-op: it will never happen.

Anonymous said...

I disagree about PS not doing anything at the farmers market on Sunday. There was a man outside the playground taking pictures of the kids. A parent confronted him and also told PS. The guy took off running and PS caught him at the ping pong tables. He was then asked to show them the pictures on his phone - which were of the playground. He's a resident so now PS knows who he is. PS also came back to the playground to talk to the concerned parents. I'm glad they were there.

12.13 PM. I really don’t understand the logic of your post. The laundry room situation is a serious QOL/financial (we pay for this) issue here. Doing laundry sucks period, but having the suck factor increase by a power of 10 is no laughing matter. The TA had volunteers do a survey and had the dismal results published in the T&V. CWC gets some major PR bashing. What’s wrong with that? OK, maybe it’s not the number one issue here but it easily makes the top ten. This constant bashing of the TA here even when it does good work is on the Teabagger level of criticism of the Obama administration. If the TA does it, then it must suck. There are some serious issues with the TA. This is not one of them, this was a good thing. Also this conspiracy theory that the TA/CWC/Garodnick is joined tight at the hip is a joke that has been rejected by the STR (no major fan of the TA or Garodnick) as well.

Anonymous said...

6:32 pm sorry i disagree. I'm not the original poster, but I agree with that post. So do our neighbors.

Anonymous said...

Been having a serious problem with upstairs neighbors and noise. Can i or should we go up and politely ask , maybe they do not know or continue to phone public safety?

Anonymous said...

We came here as RENTERS, not prospective buyers. Our complaints about the horrible laundry room conditions are just as valid as our complaints about the hard partying students and the constant out-of-the blue rent hikes and so-called MCIs. Anybody wishing to buy an apartment should look elsewhere. This is a RENTAL property and we pay high rent. Our rent is supposed to include decent laundry facilities and decent QOL.
If you are looking to BUY an apartment, please go elsewhere. PCVST was never "sold" to us as a prospective buying opportunity just as it wasn't presented as Dorm Living.
I just want to rent my apartment as per my lease. I care very much about the disgusting laundry rooms and have no desire to send my laundry out or go off the property to do my laundry. If "Management" states that we have laundry facilities on-site, then it is their responsibility to provide such facilities.
I wouldn't want to buy into this place under any circumstances and I don't want to be hoodwinked and cheated into believing there are facilities that are so bad as to be non-existent.
If you signed a lease here, thinking that you would be able to buy your unit, then you are a fool. You know what they say about a fool and his money --- they are soon parted from each other.

"Go get your laundry done on 14th street like the rest of us. Then tell ST you want a rebate. file a report of non services. stop bitching about laundry when we have safety, monetary issues, people being thrown out."

Don't want to get my laundry done on 14th Street. Why rent a place that advertises laundry rooms if you are supposed to send or take your laundry out? Would you rent a car that had to be towed and think that was ok because at least the radio worked?

Anonymous said...

If you hate it so much, why not move somewhere else at the conclusion of your lease? That's what normal people do in other parts of the country. Why is this City so twisted that people stay just so they can complain? Or is it that their rent is actually very low?

Anonymous said...

It appears that the last ones standing are going to be the most miserable. I see it happening now. Only when a new owner comes in, are when things are going to change, hopefully for the better. I wouldn't move out until then. All of our rules around here, that have been in place for such a long time, have been reversed. DOGS,BICYCLE RIDING,WALKING ON THE GRASS,CARPET RULES. It is just unbelievable. Soo sad.....

Anonymous said...

PS is alright. Most of them are ok others don't care just like NYPD. Real downside is overnight crew. I catch them sleeping in the cars and booths. Other day they were across property blocking bike lane like they are NYPD. I've walked by the office at 3am and seen people sleeping inside. I happened too speak with 1 officer who was disgusted with leadership/boss on overnights. She doesn't let them enforce many of the rules. They had opportunities too make arrests or issue summonses and she says no because the people are resisdents. So pretty much residents can break any laws on property because they live here. That's not what I wanted too hear but glad I did. Maybe they need a new change on overnights .

Anonymous said...

I too agree with 6:44 and 12:13. The NYU lease impacts us in many ways and with more mci's to come it is that much more important we remove the NYU mci's we are paying for the college campus upgrades to meet State requirements for dorm housing. That negotiation was a big load of crap.

Please don't blame MacGrey.
MacGrey recommended different machines more suitable to this population and level of use but the landlord insisted on the machines you have and too few technicians on staff. Probably to make your operating costs appear below what they should be for a residential community your size for the upcoming sale to make you look more profitable than you would be at a safer level of operations and more appropriate level of service for the population of Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town.

Anyone buying is a sucker. The price is too high. Pricing the remaining residents out of their homes is the only way for a new owner to pay the CW price. Nice scheme they had the nerve to hide under the moniker "tenant bid" so tenants get screwed more, once with the high priced purchase and once with round two of mass evictions to oust the remaining half of the population still holding on.

All the more reason we need a new TA that carries out the will of the residents and not the will of the politicians and their deals. We need to learn the ins and outs of the game from Mr Guterman so we can stand up for ourselves, the community, the park property.

Except for one or two security guards, I have found Security to be very helpful and responsive to calls e.g. getting noisy tenants out of the adjacent playground areas late at night. However, the policy around here now has loosened up so much and the quality of tenants living here has deteriorated to such a degree it's a wonder they can keep the peace at all.

Anonymous said...

Re: Noisy upstairs neighbors:

Call Security and document date and time you called, who came over and whether it was verified. Keep a record of this.
After a certain number of calls and responses (verified) you have a case for Legal.
I'd also go up there nicely, if you think they'd be open to your request. If so you can get a look at whether or not they actually have carpeting and include this in your call to Legal. However, I'd be careful with upstairs neighbors because they can get very nasty and retaliate with even more noise.
Also, calling the 13th Pct. during one of these parti4es and letting them know there may be drugs in the apt. (probably marijuana at the very least) may help.
Donalba Halberstam, the woman in charge of Tenant Relations is probably useless but worth a try.
Your project manager may be helpful as well if this is a chronic problem and can speed things along.

This place has deteriorated to such a degree it's unrecognizable. Think about moving out.

Thanks for posting the link to that map. Teachout won a surprising number of counties but Cuomo owned western and the outer boroughs. He only took Manhattan by approx 55% to 43%.

I'd like to know the results in ST-PCV. I know that Teachout won one election district in ST and Cuomo just barely won another.

Is it true the TA Dan plan has all of us moving to designated buildings for rentals and designated buildings for owners? Are they putting all the renters in buildings with NYU rental dorms then? In 2011 the TA published a declaration of their goals none of which they lived up to since then. In fact their declaration is the antithesis of their actions as we have seen since 2011. Here is what the TA said when they opposed the Guterman plan

TA: "During this extensive process, we met with the representatives of Guterman-Westwood, as well as with dozens of other potential partners. After consulting with our advisors from Paul Weiss and Moelis & Company, we decided to select Brookfield Asset Management over all the others because they have both the credibility in the real estate market and the commitment and ability to live up to the principles and goals of the Tenants Association. Those goals are clear: to allow residents the choice to either purchase their apartment at an affordable price or to stay on as rent-stabilized tenants; to improve the maintenance and upkeep of our community; to prevent new development on open space, and to ensure that the middle-class character of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village continues for the next generation."

I guess they didn't plan on CW delaying so that time would tell the above words are a bunch of lies.

I'd be shocked it that were true, at least as the TA and Dan are concerned. Ultimately, I can envision the uprooting of tenants here to other parts of the complex to make way from the gradual bulldozing of the old buildings to make way for highrises.

Re: politicians paying attention to us. It's not just that Dan lives here. It's because many of us still view PCV and ST as a community, and we represent thousands of voters. There are many personal interconnections here--people talk to one another on their floors, in their buildings, on the benches, in the playgrounds--so our elected representatives know that their voice is amplified when they talk to any of us. Why do you think they make a point of coming to TA meetings? Where else do they get a guaranteed audience of a few hundred (who then talk to their neighbors)? But that's good for us too--we know who they are, get a sense of their personalities and abilities, and can even buttonhole them.
