There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.Stuy Town Reporterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05538426011607971633noreply@blogger.comBlogger1069125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837176580996082182.post-91496905687854921682023-09-18T06:25:00.003-04:002023-09-18T06:27:25.693-04:00Beam Living/Stuy Town Goes Woke--Once Again!

LatinX??? It can't be for me. Maybe it is for one of newbies who are coming into Stuy Town this week. College and NYU kids with their suitcases on rollers and wondering just where that "welcome home" building is in this maze. I know it can't be for seniors. There is no phone number. A code you scan with a high-priced cellphone. The meeting is at OneRoof, which I first thought was a Stuy Town building roof, but that can't be it, as no one is allowed to go on the roof.

But wait! Must be for older residents? Buy and sell items? Introduce your pet/? Network? Hmm...

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the last message from the ST Clown where Beam ordered you to sit down on one of Stuy Town and Peter Cooper benches. Beam aims to take care of you 'cause you can't take care of yourselves!

Stuy Town Reporterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05538426011607971633noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837176580996082182.post-82650447462077548792023-07-24T15:53:00.007-04:002023-08-12T08:44:24.763-04:00Great work?
There is no general manager here in Stuy Town/Peter Cooper Village. The position has been divided up. No wonder. These are photos I took the other day. The first few are the passages from one side of Stuy Town to the other. They are all on the 20th Street loop. These should be smooth for people with disabilities using walkers, canes, etc. I myself need a walker, and I've talked to people with those issues. These people find it harder to walk with the gouges, potholes and just sloppy work. Even people with shopping carts and baby strollers may have a problem. The last photo is from something that I was surprised to see: A "good neighbors" sign that addresses residents like children. Do we really need to be told what to do when we are sitting on a bench? (The sign is now gone, either from Beam or a resident.)

More 8/6: The new sign shown in the photos may be gone (temporarily), but other Beam Living "sit here and say hello to a neighbor" signs are appearing all over Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. Thank you, Beam and a certain resident, for telling us what we should do. We need instructions because we are stupid and don't know what a bench is for. Some of us may think that a bench can also be used for peace and quiet and a rest, but these are troublemakers. Ha, ha! As we know a bench "is built for conversation." Beam says so!

More 8/12: STR gets a letter from Stuy Town!.... I showed the road work that was done, some of which you will see in the photos I took. It was not at "Oval Office," but at the crosswalk there. I used the word "bullshit," talking about this work and how pathetic it is and the explanations given. Bullshit is not a word one hears in pleasant genteel company, but is used a lot in New York and elsewhere. Even Presidents of the United States have used that word! Please get people in charge who are New Yorkers or speak the lingo.

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxDAhjTzD2BKwhjnBQ2stdGz2Ds9ezE89UfVlCvx9ZjH46s3GO-dZENkKcwTDCnLac4UIxco6ttk1ZY6DN57pgjB1bkPHC86QW0B57bXeeyk51B9ieZoqZgvHZxqRNBSqaCQ-ZUxmZBauFEuP7uwK-QkARrEfXwwq6RZeKD1sz1TuPhXPixqCJv4F8Ojo/s1000/stuy-bench-2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; Even by the Public Safety building and the little booth for Security at the Oval.

There is dog #@#$ all over. Every day, I pass by dog @#$% in walkways. There was even a huge dump in our flea marker the other day. The smears are still there.

Stuy Town made dog relief areas, and now, of course, there are dog smears, and more, all over. There are special events for dogs, too. Most residents pick up after their dogs, but there are those that do not, almost intentionally. Or else they are pigs, the human kind. We have those, too. The dog situation is out of control. Big time.

Oval Path does not allow dogs on it, but no one in authority cares. Oh, they will say they do, but the evidence confirms otherwise. Whatever they say is just meant to pacify the "complainers" and hope they will be quiet.

Outside dogs are let in or even housed in Stuy Town/Peter Cooper Village without any word from Public Safety or any deterrents. Remember the Blue Lanyard? It was supposed to be on every dog to make it easier to see. Management and Public Safety made big nose about this requirement.... Gone now.

If you have a dog, no matter if it is oversize or more than two, doesn't matter. Dogs rule here. But there are other things....

Some of the thankful things:The landscape and space. While things have changed (and the landscape is not the "jewel" it was before), we are still better off than a lot of people in Manhattan. At least, most of us are surrounded by a good portion of nature, unless you live on the perimeter, and can, if it's a nice day, step outside and sit on many of the benches and have the freedom to relax or socialize or just resident or nature watch. Most people in Manhattan can't do that, being forced to go to a park that is not outside their building.

We have a security presence. I know: The security here is woefully lacking in a lot of areas, but we do have it, and if one is in real trouble, one can always call security and they will come.

The playgrounds. I don't have a child at this point, but if I did, the playgrounds would be a great place to bring my little one. I believe some of our newer residents stay here mainly because of that.

The Community Center. Almost exclusively used by seniors, but it is there and has various programs for seniors. A good resource.

The service. Again, it is there. Whether the job is done properly is another question, but if something is not working in one's apartment, you can get a worker to come over, hopefully on the same day or soon.

But there are problems:

Leaf blowers. While Stuy Town/PCV prides itself on sustainability, their leaf blowers are a major health issue. I personally have seen high clouds of dust and debris kicked up in the air while residents are going to work and children to school. For residents who wear contact lenses, this dust and debris can get into their eyes. Many times, these workers do not wear masks.

Golf carts. Useful for Beam and its workers, but they can be a major headache, particularly to seniors. Crossing 20th Street from PCV to Stuy Town by these carts is against the law, but no one in authority cares.

Artificial turf. Artificial turf can cause
health issues. Possibly a problem for some people.

Elevators. Every elevator should have a statement of inspection. Instead, these have been replaced by a Beam placard of upcoming events. Beam, they say, is following the law, but to have someone living blocks away in Stuy Town or PCV to see their elevator''s statement is ridiculous and goes against the intent of the law. But no one in authority cares.

Dogs. Outside dogs are not being stopped from coming into this community. And I've seen oversize dogs by residents or more than the limit of two. Blue tags on dogs? Checked? Not anymore. And I have seem more and more dog smears or unpicked dog crap, too.

Oval events. The noise seems to be greater than what is allowed, and residents in buildings nearby can hear everything. Does Beam care? No. There are also events to celebrate a particular agenda of a small group of people who are vocal and even violent if they don't get their way.

Politicians. We can debate the quality of our governor and mayor, but our councilman is worthless and just parrots whatever is said by his party. Council persons got a pay raise of over 30% a few years back, which they do not want to talk about these days.

Electric scooters and Citibank in Stuy Town. Despite laws and regulations, enforcement by Public Safety is a major problem. Again, no one in authority cares.

Resident service. The front-line workers can be nice, but if one digs, not even too deep, they don't know about this property. A problem.

Money, money, money. Money is a god here, so if you don't have it or much of it, you can be in trouble. But I guess that isn't unusual all over the world.

So, moving here: A good choice or not?

Stuy Town Reporterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05538426011607971633noreply@blogger.com116tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837176580996082182.post-14363533061559191332023-04-16T15:04:00.001-04:002023-04-16T15:04:56.073-04:00Lithium Batteries

In Stuy Town and Peter Cooper we see more and more Lithium batteries being used. One of the things I notice is how friendly and unfriendly Stuy Town is to residents. We can talk about how Stuy Town is primarily concerned about money from residents, but it also has other things that residents should be thankful for.

One of my eye-openers happened near the end of last year. I fell. It was a nice day and I decided to walk to Chinatown, using a foldable shopping cart to help me along and insert whatever when I would get there. Good idea, it seemed. But terrible outcome. The streets and particularly some corners were getting to be more of a physical nightmare. By the time I reached Houston Street, I was knocked down. A pedestrian took the blame, but I didn't know if it was him or me. I turned the corner, but that was as far as I could get to Chinatown. I decided to head back. Walking, of course. Then I fell again at a corner several streets away. Either I was too tried or my muscles gave way or mentally I surrendered.. Thankfully, a few New Yorkers, young too, helped me to sit on a small plastic chair that they grabbed from the coffee shop nearby. Then another young man spent time to flag a suitable taxi, even though he was on his way to work. I was able to get in the taxi and head back to Stuy Town. I was feeling well, but when I got out of the taxi, I couldn't make it. I fell again in front of my building. Two Public Safety officers came. I was actually in a good mood with them and joked around while I waited for my energy to return to head back to the building. But, after this and that, I finally was home. Safe and sound.

This was the start. The next two months or so, I didn't leave the building, and either called the deli for food or used my roommate to get things for me. With Covid, much had been set up to get things online. So I got familiar with that process.

I wasn't going to rush, however. Slowly I went outside in front of the building, with a walker now. Things proceeded. The Oval, Trader Joe's, Target.... I am exercising more and lessening the mental hangup that still hampers me. But I did notice certain things. Not only are the city streets difficult with a walker, but a lot outside, except for sitting, is a pain in the neck or legs.

This gets me to the gravel around the interior of the Oval. Though the gravel is less than it was, it is burdensome. Not just for walkers. People with shopping carts, carriages, etc. But Stuy Town wants a certain look. But that look with gravel on walkways is a handicap for those with mobility challenges.

Beware of leaf blowers, though. There are a lot of fallen leaves and these guys do not care that much about the dust and dirt flying around.

Stuy Town Reporterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05538426011607971633noreply@blogger.com570tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837176580996082182.post-91196036235486091852022-05-30T09:26:00.002-04:002022-05-30T09:35:40.649-04:00Don't Get Hit by an E-Bike or E-Scooter

Thanks to our "woke" City Council, e-bikes and e-scooters are legal. Good news if you want less cars in the city, but bad news, sometimes very bad, for pedestrians who are concerned and wary about crossing a street, almost hit, and hit by these bikes and scooters. Does the City Council actually walk the streets? Or do they use transportation provided by the city? They know, or should know, that rules for bikes and scooters are not followed unless a cop is right there. I could be a millionaire by now if I got one dollar for every such rule broken. There will be more accidents and injuries involving e-bikes and e-scooters because of the "woke" City Council. On this issue, they are idiots. How plain and simple is that?

Here in Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, there is no enforcement of any rule concerning e-bikes and e-scooters unless one runs over the foot of a Public Safety officer. And even then!

When one crosses the street right outside, one has to be careful, as these e-bikes and e-scooters do not stop. To them, the pedestrian is just a nuisance. I'm know I'm getting confused. A lot of things are not working here, and getting more and more by the month. The "rules" here are mostly not enforced. Outside dogs, crap on our paths, electric bicycles and skateboards, uncovered mattresses on the loops, leaf blowers whose exhaust is pollution and the spreading of disease, local politicians who tell you what you want to hear about these issues but do nothing, a small tenant organization that is a mockery of the term..... The "rules" are bs. Just meant to placate and present this area as worthy of rentals to those thinking about renting. Yeah, this place is better for certain things with the extra space with have in our community. But it is a far cry from former times, and I have been here for over 30 years. It is a money-making operation, and residents are behind on the line. If it was up to me, I would want all residents to be the focus of my work and dedication. I would want "quality of life" to be uppermost. That means the "rules" would have to enforced. That is why the loud music from "events" is bs. That is why the periodic marches of whatever cause is primary to the "woke" crowd is bs. That is why the mantra of "Good Neighbors" is bs, (Why are we being told to be a "good neighbor" when that comes instinctively?) Stop it with the continual pandering. Do not speak with Beam tongue.

Stuy Town Reporterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05538426011607971633noreply@blogger.com377tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837176580996082182.post-60478591926864323002021-08-14T09:30:00.012-04:002021-08-14T12:00:36.497-04:00Banning the Leaf Blowing

Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village constantly use leaf blowing, despite their promotion at being a sustainable community, reducing greenhouse emissions and LEED certification. (That certification costs money, and the building complex is not inspected again.) Leaf blowing is a heath hazard. We are told that even after the leaves have been blow way, the blowers "put into the air little fragments of leaves, and other dust which could be irritating, and could aggravate asthma with exposure. Additionally, there are the exhaust fumes from gas-powered blowers." Here, in this complex which encourages dogs, there is the certainly that particles of dog refuse can be traveling in the air with these blowers. Yummy!

I have seen, and personally was "blown" by such leaf blowers, who use their blowers in the morning, when people are going to work (and later, too). Typically people off to work try to avoid the blowers, but this avoidance is every brief. Residents frequently pass through the kicked-up air on their way to work, shop, or, if they are younger, school. Stuyvesant is too small for the amount of people in the complex to allow this. And we are not even mentioning Covid or other viruses that may be put into the air briefly.

The reason Stuyvesant Town uses leaf blowing is that it gets the job done quickly. That's it. Before, rakes were used, but that takes time and taking time costs Blackstone money. But the rules may be changing, legally. There is a state bill up that may prohibit leaf blowers. Of course, our City Council (which got a pay raise of over 33%) should adopt this resolution, too, and sooner rather than later (or never). Perhaps, our councilman, Keith Powers, can introduce this legislation and work toward its implementation?

Stuyvesant Town is doing residents a harm with these leaf blowers. Management and Blackstone
should know it. But, even if they don't, they are warned now. Next is a lawsuit if nothing
changes.

Further reading: https://bigfrog104.com/grab-the-rake-gas-powered-leaf-blowers-being-banned-in-parts-of-new-york-state/
Stuy Town Reporterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05538426011607971633noreply@blogger.com997tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837176580996082182.post-68369781986798782222021-06-16T19:25:00.006-04:002021-06-16T19:32:38.199-04:00The Rules

The diagram is from the city showing the rules for outside dinning. Some residents don't care as they are just passing through, a couple of years at most. Other residents are idiots (I'm being frank, sorry) and will accept just about anything. But there are residents that care. The problem is that I care, too.

I see battles. The major one is the two power plants being built in Stuyvesant Town. Both are pollutants in an area that is already high in pollutants. The power plants are also obstructing the view of those in apartments living close. This is Blackstone's doing. (Beam Living is under the leadership of Blackstone, so one is the other.) I will refrain from talking about the East River Park, another serious disaster that will devastate that community, usually poorer people and therefore "undesirable."

The other battle is Rosemary's, the new Italian restaurant on the corner of 20th Street and 1st Ave. The Peter Cooper building that was adjacent to it had a loss of certain power for weeks. You can guess why that building needed to be rewired. Rosemary's upper new area for growing eatable plants is nice, but it is also blocking a few apartments from the clear view they once had.

Aside from these issues, I was willing to let Rosemary's "live and let live." But an article appeared in the NY Post that explained more. While the article is a promo piece for the restaurant and an embarrassment of its writer and the Post, we learn that Blackstone has a financial investment in Rosemary's. Yes. Blackstone. (They probably also invested in the Five Stuy Cafe, but that's another story.) Also, the article stated that we live in a "ghost town," with insufficient eateries and catering to the hospital crowd..... Hm, what of the large Hane, which is just across the corner from Rosemary's? What of the Italian restaurants on the other side of 1st Ave? What of the Coopertown Diner? Gracefully?? What of the popular two restaurants that were where Rosemary's now is--the Belgian Waffle place and Mexican one--Vamos? Of course, the new bus stop is away from the old one, near 1st Ave. Makes sense now. It gives Rosemary's extra space to construct an outdoor seating area. A lot of things make sense now with Blackstone's involvement.

There are other concerns. If you go to Trader Joe's at various times of the day, it is hard to get through on south 14th Street. The councilperson of that area does nothing. There are movements to defund the police, have Black Lives Matter as our unofficial spokesperson, etc. These are concerns, but right now, in our community, are other concerns, more immediate ones..

(Thanks to political involvement and concerned neighbors, the power plants may be halted. To be seen what happens and if the plant that's on Ave. C will be demolished or just left as an "example.")

Stuy Town Reporterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05538426011607971633noreply@blogger.com105tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837176580996082182.post-47696387427908371742021-04-29T12:40:00.006-04:002021-04-29T12:40:56.009-04:00Police Officer Suicide in Stuy Town

What can one say?... I paid 30 dollars a month and quit when it wasn't being run to justify the price. In just a year or two, the price for Oval Study, which now includes a Peter Cooper location, rose to 55 dollars a month.Of course, the thick one-page brochure that you must have seen somewhere in your building, touts "for only $55," but that kind of happy-face push is not fooling anyone. At least, I hope it's not.

Who is paying for this? I would suppose mostly college students whose wealthier parents are paying for their son's or daughter's privilege. (Since masks are required, you will probably feel more liberated at your Stuy Town or Peter Cooper room, though this apartment could have inhabitants that hamper your studying.)

And that is the point. Stuy Town hopes that more money will be coming in from weathy parents.

The prices of everything have gone up. Part of the reason is the Covid disaster, but the prices were going up anyway, though the pandemic gives a talking points reason for higher prices.

As I look about, this community has taken a hit in everything. And not just prices in the neighborhood or those given by our lord and master, Beam Living.

To think. our former congressman, Daniel Garodnick, has just released a book on Saving Stuyvesant Town. The book's title is no joke, though it should be a comedy book. But not to worry. You can be sure that in a year's time, the book will be remaindered. A dollar is too much to ask, actually, but the book can maybe save you on 14th Street from one of the vagrants selling a piece of junk and becoming hostile to you because you are you.

Stuy Town Reporterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05538426011607971633noreply@blogger.com68tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837176580996082182.post-77037195610504173752020-10-15T15:50:00.004-04:002020-11-30T09:33:05.207-05:00The Worst I've Seen
Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, together with the surrounding areas, are the worst I've ever seen. And I have been here for over three decades. The Covid disaster has just exacerbated the situation. A mess everywhere one looks. Inside the complex and outside. Would you want to live here? Yes, there are reasons to do so, but convincing is starting to look purposeless.

Also, at wintertime, there is infrequent heat for many tenants. Unless you use space heaters and/or turn on the stove (against your lease), you may be freezing. Management does not care. If Blackstone gets penalized, the payment is very small. So Blackstone continues on....

Photos: Inside this complex:

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ks06qnSgIR4/X4iigwBfC-I/AAAAAAAAFfE/cuaV5db8TmUorjE3sXCXU7D3ZvgO4MDHACLcBGAsYHQ/s1000/stuy1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; This is priceless and tells much about people jumping the gun big time--something that is occurring more these days, as people are ready to damn someone before the full facts are known.... So, I am searching the internet and come across a couple of photos that look very familiar. One is exactly what I posted in November, applying it to a fake interview. Well, I got damned by a Stuy Town reader who felt I was making fun of the pain and suffering this person on the photo felt. I tried to find the post, but I may have not passed it. But I discovered the reality today. The photo, one of at least two, shows an Asian girl opening her mouth to try to catch the snow that's falling down. That's it. No pain, no suffering, just a kid playing. A good lesson to be careful before one jumps the gun.

Here we go again. Our "landlord," (Blackstone in the person of Rick) has sought to minimize or ignore the incidents that occurred a week ago. There has been no public statement about these incidents even though a senior citizen and another person were assaulted/punched/threatened with violence/whatever by a naked resident who may have had issues. Later, there was the incident where this naked man was out in the Oval. Public Safety and the police appeared. Screaming was heard, etc. Not a word from Management about these incidents for over a week. We have been here before where Management has sought to ignore or minimize what is happening here for the sake of the unaware potential renters ($) that Blackstone hopes will come to this place. Wrong move.

Update, 4/30: The two incidents happened on 4/21. Management has been silent, but today there was an email to residents (which I never get, despite telling Resident Services at least twice about my email address). I quote: "Final update on the unfortunate event of last week. The

Down below. A different path, same problem. I was passing and saw a pile of unpicked dog shit. A few hours later, something (a club car?) must have driven over it, squashing it. Sorry for the dog dropping photos, but nothing changes, and there is NO Public Safety to escort non-ST or PCV residents out of here. Everyone knows that this place doesn't follow some rules, even Management's own rules. But we do have S'mores and Songs. From Management: "Who says city life can’t come with bonfires and s’mores? Make s’mores at
the new fire pits for $5 with profits benefiting The Bowery Mission. A
guitarist brings a sing-a-long for some 'Kumbaya moments' with
complimentary hot chocolate & coffee."

We could add a few more names, like our local politicians, newspapers/TV stations, the city's own DOB, but residents of ST and PCV are being duped or ignored by the above. Yes, there are certain things that are right here. It is not all bad for sure. But outright lies or misrepresentations are frequently said or adhered to by the very people and organizations that should help us.

I have lived here for over 30 years, and I challenge anyone of the above to prove otherwise. I have photos (lots) and my own "seeing is believing" experiences. The important attitude of these organizations is to have a happy face--and lie. Every person or organization listed above has lied to residents and to me. Many residents now realize that they are being lied to and refuse the Kool Aid being offered.

Sure, if there is some serious trouble, Public Safety will help, but not in the "small" laws that build up and up and create indifference in residents or even hatred. I cannot go to or call the above organizations or people without preparing myself for the standard BS that all of them give.

Basically, Blackstone and Management are a law unto itself. They do not enforce several city laws and their own. Laws to them are just for talk and promotion. The reality is that a lot of things are just accepted, regardless of Blackstone's own law, regardless of what New York City/State mandates.

This coming year more pressure is going to be put on the above individuals and organizations. From my part, it will be done very legally. As we know, "legal" is ignored here. The fight is to get things that are legal actually legal.Stuy Town Reporterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05538426011607971633noreply@blogger.com573tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837176580996082182.post-91833104944949021592019-12-03T20:21:00.002-05:002019-12-03T20:21:32.514-05:00Goodbye Associated

There's been a lot of talk about this supermarket closing. Some of the comments have been pro and some negative. I shop daily there, mostly for milk, sometimes for the deli department. And I always check to see what's on sale, as some of the sale prices are indeed beckoning. Soon, though, no more. The store is becoming empty of items, though many perishables are still to be had. Signs say that the other Associated store at 8th Street and Ave C will have flyers, etc., but that's too far to walk for most. The Management at Stuy Town promised another similar store will take its place, but I'm not holding my breath.

Anyway, one less option for me and for many others. Goodbye.Stuy Town Reporterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05538426011607971633noreply@blogger.com472tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837176580996082182.post-26498986730978102019-11-29T23:29:00.000-05:002019-11-29T23:41:54.538-05:00We Interview the Woman Who Screams

The TA inadvertently published a recent photo of a Stuy Town resident screaming "There's no heat!" while the woman next to her (also a resident) is looking thru Stuy Town garbage for anything to eat. As we here at the STR blog are very curious about this scene, we searched for the first woman and found her walking around the Oval, as she was careful not to get run over by a speeding bicycle or scooter.

Me: Is that you?

Yes, I can't take this place anymore. And I'm a new resident that's paying $7,000 a month for a renovated one-room IKEA apartment.

Wow, that's a lot. I didn't know that rents go up that high.

Sure do, even though they say I am a rent-stabilized tenant like everyone else. And now Gracefully is charging $5 for a small cup of coffee. Necessary price increase, Gracefully says.

But you go to Associated?

Closed. I'm still going to the East River to drink water and catch a fish and wash clothes, but the East River Park will be closed soon, while they raise it 2 inches.

All of it?

Yes, all of it., but we have to fight global warming. At least that's what they say, but I'm suspicious of those planned high-rises along the East River that they're going to build.

So what are your options?

Don't tell anyone, but I am forced to do AirBnb because I can't afford the rent anymore. Luckily, our Public Safety department looks the other way on most things.

Boy, you're in a tough situation.

That's why I screamed. I hope I didn't wake you?

No, you didn't. I'm used to noise by now, living near the new subway extension on 14th Street. Human screaming is nothing compared to the jack-hammering that's going on.

I admit that I went to Management's s'mores event and gobbled what I could. Thank God for small favors.

* * *

With that, the woman hustled over to the new Veteran 's Memorial, where, despite no real trees, she found many empty spaces to sit and rest.

Yes, thank God for small favors.Stuy Town Reporterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05538426011607971633noreply@blogger.com101tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1837176580996082182.post-4415058384580505092019-11-26T14:12:00.001-05:002019-11-26T14:20:39.450-05:00Leaf Blowers - The Danger and Management Doesn't Care

As long as the leaf blowers are outside and creating noise, let me address this issue, and it is quite simple. Though Stuyvesant Town prides itself on making this place have the latest technology and freedom (or close to it) from pollutants, the fact remains that leaf blowers are a danger to the health of residents. Of course, nothing is being done about them. Yesterday I even saw a bigger leaf blower "doing its thing" and thereby also scattering humans out of the way.

Yes, there are many leaves on the ground from the trees here. But getting rid of them was not like this in the past. The effort previously was quiet and done by grounds workers with things such as rakes. (Remember those?) But now, with the use of leaf blowers, Management thinks it has found a way to do things cheaper and quicker. Your health be damned.

Leaf blowers are not energy efficient, unless the energy we are talking about is human energy. Leaf blowers blow not only leaves, but dirt, feces, etc. They pollute. Period. I myself have gotten a "taste" and a "smell" from leaf blowers nearby. And face it, a lot of the grounds people with leaf blowers are here just to do a job as quickly as possible, and collect a pay check. Again, your health be damned.

If this were the days of King Solomon (remember him, from the Bible?), I would have Management stand in front of a running leaf blower and breath in all the noxious waste and get some of that waste and dirt inside their system. But these are not the days of King Solomon....

This is a good place to start on the potential danger:
