Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.

Tishman Speyer on Rats: "Isolated incidents."
"Isolated incidents." That's the response from a Tishman Speyer representative to the increasing rat population in Stuyvesant Town observed by a good number of residents of late. Above is a recent photo taken by a reader of this blog of a potential plague carrier darting around the corner of a Stuy Town wall.
The "isolated incidents" comment appeared in this week's Town and Village newspaper, in editor Sabina Mollot's article titled "Spike in rat sightings in Stuy Town, Gramercy Park." Regarding the rat issue, the Tishman Speyer spokesperson stated:
"As is the case in every New York City neighborhood, isolated incidents occur. However, there has not been a noticeable increase in the number of resident complaints or requests for service calls."
Hm.... So I guess the invitation is out to call the Management Office (212-420-5000) and Lance Cohen (212-420-4929), the property manager of Stuy Town, whenever you see a rat (the rodent, not human, kind). You should also call the Department of Health at 212-442-9666.
"Lance Cohen...the property manager of Stuy Town..."
ReplyDeleteI thought Dan Mogolesko is ST prop mgr? Is there more than one?
I see several isolated incidents scampering around outside my building every evening when I come home from work. Their holes that they pop in and out of are very clearly visible too. Someone posted notices in the building about it recently, but the notices were torn down by TS. The TS attitude is: "If we choose to ignore it, the problem doesn't exist."
ReplyDeleteThere are assistant property managers at Stuy Town. I'll try to find out what Mogolesko's job is there; Linkedin lists him as "property manager." This is probably a job position no one is eager to publicize too much.
ReplyDeleteI asked because a couple days before my wife and I made our triumphant return to ST we got a call from Dan and he identified himself as property manager. Dan asked if there was anything he could do for us before we moved in. I said, "Yeah, could you ask Johanna Gallegos to return any of my wife's phone calls?" Johanna's job title? New tenant liaison. Heh. Yep, struggles with the mgmt office began before we even moved in.
ReplyDeleteRats have become commonplace around the Oval. The dense ground cover next to the Amenities have provided a perfect habitat for them.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest that everyone file a report online at this NYC 311 online address:
REPORT RATS
Re: the Property Managers, I've been told that there is a property manager for each of the 4 quadrants of Stuyvesant Town.
Thanks to the direct link to the city's rat complaint department. I'll be adding this to the right menu on the main page when I update that section.
ReplyDeleteA week ago Saturday we watched one walk out from the foliage near Oval Study and run into the flowers on the Oval. On Friday morning we were walking past the East side of the Oval, near Oval Kids, about 7:30 when one darted out from the playground foliage going to the Oval. We no sooner got to the part of the Oval near the security booth when another rat did the same thing. The Oval is where the food is. The woman who gives the squirrels water each day says the rats have gotten much worse. She is out there every day.
ReplyDeleteMice are cute.
ReplyDeleteYes, but these are RATS!
