Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.

Ah, the Smells and Sights of a Dog Friendly Stuy Town/PCV
A favorite corner at the Oval for dogs to piss on. All vegetation dies here, and soon the bricks will crumble.
-------------------------------
The summer. Hot, humid. And the stifling smells of dog urine all over Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village. Now, there's few places people can sit and relax on benches without being overwhelmed by the stink of dog urine or crap.
And when you walk these lovely grounds--watch your step....
With each passing month, dog owners are feeling more and more entitled to do what they want by allowing their dogs on the grass and garden areas, removing dog signs, going into areas blocked off for new grass to grow, tagging property with messages about dog runs, letting their dogs piss and shit wherever, releasing their dogs in stairwells to piss against the walls and pipes, letting their dogs off leash or extending retractable leashes to ridiculous (and illegal) lengths. These obnoxious air-heads don't give a damn about the rest of the community and our enjoyment of it, just as long as they get to do what they want with their Fidos.
The worst decision Tishman Speyer made--removing the ban on dogs in Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village!
And, of course, you can forget our Security being diligent concerning enforcing the dog rules here. Get off your fat asses, guys, and start giving out tickets!
I'll take the dogs over the students any day.
ReplyDeleteAnd now we will hear from all the dog owners in STPCV about how if there were only a dog run in STPCV, then none of this mess would occur.
ReplyDeleteNonsense! Too many dog owners in STPCV are taking advantage of the fact that the owner is doing nothing about enforcing its own or NYC's dog rules, so they let them pee and crap anywhere and ,when confronted with evidence of that, they whine about the lack of a dog run.
I love most dogs and way too many dogowners in STPCV simply refuse to obey the rules. if we can't fine miscreants then we need to ban dogs again
This very night I was walking around the Oval and there's a guy with his dog on the Oval lawn, and his dog is taking a crap! On the grass, on the lawn, where no dogs are even suppose to be. Guess he thought no one could see him and his dog. I hollered at the idiot. Folks, we have to get more vocal with these air-heads.
ReplyDeleteSTR: That little pile will be a nice surprise for someone who spreads their towel out to sunbathe. Or some poor little toddler running on the Oval. You're right, Security needs to start doing their job when it comes to these dog owners. Hollering at them probably is water off a duck's back and, besides, most of them are on their cell phone or listening to their iPod and don't hear anything around them. The dogs and the bicycles are a real quality of life issue and Security does nothing. If we ever get a new owner/management, I hope they take into consideration what is happening and give Security the go-ahead to actually do their job. Right now I think their hands are tied because TS told them to let MR tenants and students do anything they want to do.
ReplyDeleteIt is OUTRAGEOUS that TS defaulted on the mortgage in January and the court earlier this month ordered a foreclosure sale of STPCV and yet TS is still in charge of leasing, maintenance security etc.Jerry and his "lovely" son are having the last laugh by sticking us with yet another year of student housing and allowing maintainence to literally go to crap!
ReplyDeleteI'll take the dogs and their shit over you any day you asshole
ReplyDeleteThe reason I allowed the above comment to go through is just to expose the kind of minds and personalities we are dealing with when we talk about our beloved arrogant dog owners.
ReplyDeleteAnd what do you propose. Instead of letting the dogs poo and pee in the grass would you prefer them do so on the sidewalk? Even if picked up it will leave a little bit of poo behind. Is that what you prefer to the poo and pee being in the grass? The sidewalks all being covered in it? Face it. The dog haters here are the minority. You can get angry all you want. It is like water off a ducks back when you holler because it just makes you look like an angry person.
ReplyDelete"Face it. The dog haters here are the minority."
ReplyDeleteThat is such a ridiculous statement it is laughable. You have it so backwards it is hardly worthy of a response. Those who don't want the dogs outnumber those who do by 100 to 1. Next owner will end dog friendly environment. It's too costly. Tenants with dogs will have until lease expires to move or get rid of Fido. There are already lawsuits agains TS over dog policy.
In terms of cleaning up after your dog it shouldn't even be an issue as you signed that your dog wouldn't be walked in ST so you should be cleaning it up in the curb as NYC law requires. If you leave a little behind on the curb the street sweeper should get it.
Lastly, while I am on th subject, where has the 13th precint been all these years while these irresponsible dog owners have lowered the quality of life in ST. Leash laws and curb laws are their responsiblity and yet I have never seen a NYPD officer in ST issuing tickets. I called them to find out why and the officer said that they leave policing in ST to security. Therefore, ST has been totally abandoned by the NYPD and the largest most densly populated neighborhood in the 13th precint receives no protection. Absolutely absurd. I want a credit on my NYC taxes since I am not afforded police protection!
I am not a dog hater. I would like to see the dog owners be more responsible, however, and keep their dogs leashed.
