Now the question is, just what area encompasses the Oval Fountain Plaza? If it includes the benches, then this should be amusing to watch, with the guard booth in such close proximity.
Prediction: A decent number of dog owners will ignore the sign.
I'd also like to see a no human sunbathing on the Oval Fountain Plaza area sign, but my guess is the above sign is meant to ward off possible doggie stains on the ground for those very sunbathers.
Prediction: people will continue to use it as an ad hoc foot bath.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely.
ReplyDeleteI am grossed out by seeing dogs sitting on benches all over the property because their owners don't have an ounce of sense and/or don't care that other people do not want to sit where their dog's dirty feet/private parts have been after they leave.
ReplyDeleteWhat a joke. Like anybody is going to pay attention. Like anybody pays attention to any of the signs or rules around here. With no enforcement - and there will be none, as with all the other rules around here - you will see dogs all over this area. Guaranteed.
ReplyDeleteDoes security use the doll house booth? Will they enforce this rule or turn a blind eye like they do with everything else?
ReplyDeleteFirstly how can the oval path be restricted to no dogs, it's a vital path way around Stuy Town. This notice was also intact last year, so no biggie, just new signs. I bet my dogs butt is a lot cleaner than most residents. People get over it , join the new millennium, Dogs are here to stay! The crankiness of this complex is amazing. I bet indoor plumbing was resisted at first, horseless carriages, and computers. Can a so called Public Space actually ban anything? Chill out on the complaints, things are not that bad.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it bad to put your feet in the fountain to cool off on a hot day? They do that in Rome, in Spain?
ReplyDeleteFor anyone who wants to let Council Member Garodnick know how you feel about his aiding and abetting the return of the Greenmarket to the south end of the Oval, here's his facebook page info - http://www.facebook.com/DanGarodnick
ReplyDeleteWord is that two dog owners, who allowed their dogs to urinate on the entrance way to a PCV building (!), were visited by Public Security for an explanation of the rules and common neighborly courtesy. Also, in PCV, a non-leash summons was issued to another dog owner.
ReplyDeleteThere are dog piss stains all over the M entrance to 285 Avenue C.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much you inconsiderate dog owner.
to Tommyboyardee.
ReplyDeletePlease move back to where ever it is you came from.
Thanking you in advance.
Could public safety drop some grass seed the next time they visit PCV?
ReplyDeleteRe; grass seed. would not matter. the weeds here are in full full bloom
ReplyDeleteSo if I lived here how many years would it make me from here? How about the rest of my family? Do they count? Such ignorance, not posted as anonymous.
ReplyDeleteNow if someone could tell the little brats that animal crackers are not confetti we'd have less rats.
ReplyDeleteI truly don't understand the whining here. You're now complaining about animal crackers? Really? Could you be any more malcontent?
ReplyDeleteExcuse me for going a bit off topic. I posted on a different thread the other day about our recycling area being nice and clean until some young woman went and dumped a big bag full of oozing garbage in the bottles and plastics bin. Well, I just went downstairs (445 East 14th) with my bottles, cans, paper, etc. and saw a big fat rat run across the top of the recycling bins. There is the usual pizza and food containers (full of food leftovers, of course), down there and no room for me to put my genuinely recyclable, washed cans, bottles and jars. No more will I recycle even though I hate to be this way. That rat was fat and bold! It ran clear across the top of the piled up garbage and disappeared down the side somewhere. Eeek! Management seriously needs to address this problem. The people who leave food garbage should be fined because they are ruining the whole purpose of the recycling program. Maybe Management should put the recycling program on hold until people really understand what they are supposed to do. My stomach is churning because I've seen them outside, but this is the first time I've seen a rat actually in the building. Mice and roaches I can understand because they are everywhere in New York, but I do not expect to see a rat inside the building. I just hope it stays in the recycling area and doesn't find its way upstairs. I am totally in favor of recycling to help keep stuff out of landfills, but I will not go down there again! In fact, I don't think I even want to use the laundry room again because it means walking through the recycling area. We have really sunk to a low point now. Rose, I hope you read this and take notice.
ReplyDeleteTo Tommyboyardee:
ReplyDeleteIf you want to let your dog sit on the furniture in your home, that's your busines, but are you so unable to fathom that people do NOT want to sit on a bench where your dog's dirty behind has been? Saying that your dog's behind is cleaner than most peoples's is clearly an idiotic statement. Wipe your dog's butt after he does his business and put some underwear and pants on him and maybe I would believe you. Until then, please keep your dog on the ground, where he belongs and have some respect for the other human beings that you share the outdoor spaces around here with who do not share your love of your dog.
I remember Tommyboyardee from the early days of Lux Living. Not a transient.

So you're saying you're just going to ignore the sign and do whatever you want to do? I'm shocked that dog owners at Stytown would be that self absorbed. Before you know it we're going to have all dog owners letting their dogs crap and piss all over the lawns and flower beds!
and to tell the ladies and gents to stop feeding the squirrels.......
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about the Oval pathway being dog restricted. I thought it was, then I thought it wasn't, but now it seems that just the Oval Fountain area is restricted.
ReplyDeleteTo 11:39/rat issue:
ReplyDeleteDon't wait for Management to read this blog. Email Adam Rose directly at Adam@rosenyc.com, and feel free to call 311 to report the rat sighting. If you want to take further action, post what you said here on every floor in your building. Make some noise.
"vital path"
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty funny. Vital!
"You're now complaining about animal crackers? Really? Could you be any more malcontent?"
ReplyDeleteI'm complaining about the food left behind. There was a half eaten Lunchables left by playground 10 on Thursday. Sandwich crusts, cookies, popsicle sticks. You name, it's on the ground.
The kids dropping Animal Crackers post (which have been around for like 100 years) pretty much proves how this is so NOT about the NEW awful selfish residents and is about the old awful selfish curmudgeons who just like to complain.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone see the Heinekin kegs by the fountain?
ReplyDeleteCorrect the inner oval fountain area and inner surrounding benches are off limits as well as the inner oval greens, I have no problem with this, in fact I agree with it, not everybody has to be a dog lover, but being a hater is just plain hateful. My dog does not sit on a bench, I rarely do, however I'm not sure this is either morally or against some law. Just what Stuyvesant needs, more signs. I am not out to create conflict, often making light of a ridiculous statement is easier than the direction others seem to take. I appreciate being defended as non-transient, however this is still the United States (Stuyvesant) of America! There are plenty of mean S.O.B.'s that are long termers. This gives you know rights other than your own.
ReplyDeleteRe: animal crackers and the rat inside 445 E 14. Another place I don't like seeing food crumbs is on the floor and the chairs in the laundry room--prime territory for waterbugs, mice, and rats. I'm not crazy about coffee rings on the folding table. And I don't like finding drinking straws, soggy Cheerios, and a child's fork in the gasket of the washing machine. Maybe the stuff in the washing machines was really, really clean, but it's what I want greeting me when I do my laundry.
ReplyDeletePet peeve eating food or coffee cups on the folding tables
ReplyDeleteI think this place is heading to a Tienemen Square
ReplyDeletetype of standoff in The Oval.
At least the guard in the dollhouse could turn and FACE the Oval Fountain.
