Saturday, May 19

Given time and opportunity, I'd like to do short weekly reports on the state of things in PCVST.  So, without further ado....

Peter Cooper Village residents who felt left out of the upgrade in landscaping that's already started in Stuyvesant Town have reason to cheer, as upgrading work has already begun in PCV....

Meanwhile the southwest corner of Stuy Town, where the landscaping started, is looking very good indeed. I urge residents to take a walk there and see for themselves.  Of course, this area is the one prospective tenants first see when they exit the back of the First Avenue leasing office, so who knows how far this improvement and maintenance will extend.

The Stuyvesant Town greenmarket is now being promoted along the perimeter of the complex.  Here's the banner:

And it does carry the "For Residents and Their Guests" tag at the bottom.  Yeah, I know it's smaller print and will become concealed if the plantings in front of the banner rise any higher...And one does wonder just for whom this banner is meant for?

A Con Ed emergency truck, using compressed gas, has turned up at the Oval. Gossip away!

During this time Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper tends to look its best with everything in full bloom, so enjoy. On a negative note, I must mention that in my walk about the complex, I saw several dog violations. It always happens. One guy in Peter Cooper was taking out three dogs (!) and Public Safety inside their car didn't do a thing, even as they passed him right by...and slowly.

Oh, and finally, finally, Playground 10 appears to be heading to reopening very soon. Brand new astro-turf is being vacuumed and made shiny pretty.

  1. If the "Greenmarket" is just for residents, then they don't need to advertise it on the perimeter of the property. Just another way for CW/Rose to thumb their noses at us and say "Fuck You" we will do whatever we want and if we want to turn the Oval into a roller derby rink, then that is just what we will do because we are the POWER. Of course, DG and the TA will do NOTHING, as usual.
BTW, what is all that fucking drilling going on since early this morning? Can't we have a little peace for a change?

  2. Any way to keep dogs out of the giant sand box in front of play ground 12 ?
My kid had a poop surprise on his hand this Thursday.
    Rose, please help, Thxs.

  3. I saw workers rolling out the black wire fencing from my basement yesterday and figured Kathy Deutsch might finally be getting off her ass. What I'll be looking for: lawn mowing (I don't care about nongrass plants--native meadow with clover, etc. is OK with me), camouflaging of the place where the tree stump was finally removed (took a year) on the lawn near First and 23rd so it blends with its surroundings, removal of dead yew bushes on same lawn and their replacement (how about putting back the ivy border that grew so well for decades?), covering prominent dirt areas with grass instead of plants that die before they get a chance to live.

  4. Sighted on E. 20th Street between 1st & River..."Manhattan Pressure Wall Company" truck. Unloading into a PCV apartment. Roughly half way to 1st Ave.

    They are definitely back.

The guy gave me a really dirty look when I checked out his truck. Regrettably, I didn't have my cell phone with me to snap a picture.

  5. Hey, I just checked my calendar. April came and went.

May is more than half over.

My question is: WTF happened to that bid that was coming from Brookfield and, gasp, the TA?!?

    Maybe after the elections?

    The Presidential elections, that is...

    What a joke.

I think I'm gonna start standing on the corner of 20th & 1st in front of that scam sushi place and stop passers by to say "psst...wanna buy an apartment?" You know, just to get the ball rolling...

Mister Anonymous, I hope you are a dues-paying member of the Ovil Atrocities or that handful of poop represents a theft of services.

    As you were, Mister....

  7. Yes...PCV is finally getting some attention. As observed before, mulch & shrubs are the answer. The dogs can pee as much as their owners like on this & it won't have much of an effect. But the challenge will be the large grassy areas. Let's see what they do there. Here are their options: keep as grassy - big maintenance headache & the dogs will wreck this over time; mulch over the area & plant lots of trees - not nice for the dog owners, they won't like walking on mulch, neither will fido; a mixture of grass, mulch & trees - not good - the grass will get woenr down quickly; a mixture of gravel walkway, mulch & trees - probably the most sensible...no grass maintenance & the doggies have many more places they can go without killing anything. Is the place going to the dogs? Definitely, The whole place is being optimized for the dogs.

  8. Be happy the mulch doesn't start it's own fire like the compost! Don't let Grow NYC catch on or they'll be roasting corn over it!

  9. The new signs around the complex say that the Greenmarket is for "Residents and their guests", but they very obviously do NOT say "Residents and their guests only."

So, if you in the general public want to stop by, feel free! Come take advantage of all the ameneties that my rent dollars help to pay for.

The "accessory use" designation that has been granted to this Greenmarket is a joke. Just Google "Stuyvesant Town Greenmarket" and you'll find 13 pages and hundreds of hits, all of which are designed to entice the general public to come here and take advantage of our "private" Greenmarket.

  10. Do you think those fences around the landscaping are just temporary? If so, I'm disappointed. No matter how nice it is to have an open area, it's very hard on the grass to have people and dog trampling over it all the time.

  11. Things do look good, much has been made about the removal of existing plants. I believe things were simply started south (14 st.) and progressed uptown. Would like to see the temporary fencing removed.....but I understand!

  12. Yes, every Sunday, we can barely walk around the premises from the HORDES of outsiders swarming in to visit the greenmarket. (eyeroll).

Please, this is not a problem.

It's not a problem for people who haven't lived here long enough to remember when the Oval was a nice quiet place or maybe for people who do remember those days and hated the peacefulness and beauty of the Oval as it WAS.

Maybe it isn't for you, but it is for those of us who actually care about the law being broken or perverted to serve CW Capital's and Rose Associates' marketing purposes.

PCV was feeling like the sister nobody wants to date.
