Message about tomorrow's voting from
Dan Garodnick
----
Tomorrow
is Election Day - and the right to vote is something that many of us
regard as fundamental as heat and hot water. So, we need to make sure
that our poll sites are up and running.
On Saturday, I inspected with Board of Elections representatives each of the seven Peter Cooper and Stuyvesant Town poll sites
to
ensure that they were powered and ready for Election Day. There was
no damage to the voting rooms, and all of the relevant buildings have
electricity. Accordingly, the Board of Elections is making no changes
on the poll sites -- they are the same as they were on Primary Day this
past June and September. Unfortunately, at this moment, there is no
heat at any of the locations, and it remains to be seen whether the
Board of Elections will take additional steps to warm them up.
Also
of note, our neighbors in Waterside Plaza will be voting in Asser Levy
Recreation Center along with many Peter Cooper voters. The Board of
Elections relocated their poll site to Asser Levy because there is no
power yet at Waterside. Accordingly, that site will be busier than it
usually is.
The following are the poll sites in Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper Village. To locate your particular poll site, please visit http://gis.nyc.gov/vote/ps/index.htm
These are our poll sites:
360 First Avenue
Asser Levy Recreation Center
525 East 14th Street
3 Stuyvesant Oval
272 First Avenue
10 Stuyvesant Oval
283 Avenue C
People
have asked us whether some accommodation can be made for those who are
in buildings without power and elevator service and may not be able to
get to the polls. There does exist a complicated process for that to
happen.
The
date for people to submit absentee ballot applications was extended
until today. We are working on a way to help residents get their
applications down to the Board of Elections (and for us to get them
their ballots) right now. If this is an issue for a neighbor, please
come visit us in the Stuyvesant Town Community Center and we will
explain the process. We need to get all signed applications to the
Board of Elections by 4pm today, so time is of the essence.
We expect to have absentee ballot applications in the Stuyvesant Town Community Center by 12 noon.
