Fire at the ST Rental Office?

Five firetrucks in front of the Stuy Town rental office on 1st Ave, the doors wide open, firemen inside. Doesn't look like much, as no fire or smoke is seen.

  1. I hope it burns to the ground!

  2. A one or two Woo fire?

  3. Please tell us it burned down. Please! Don't want anybody hurt, but please tell us it burned down along with all those fucking NYU leases!

ps I wonder if someone's pants caught fire, knowing what liars they are when they are reeling in unaware newbies?

  4. I'm hoping for "total loss"--uninsured, of course.

  5. I didn't pass by later, but I'm sure whatever it was, was minimal. But five fire engines!

  6. Snake oil is highly flammable.

  7. Some prospective tenants couldn't wait for Mrs. HaberSHAM to give them their keys so they sparked their doobies right there in the office. Nothing new here.

Has anyone seen this? I understand splitting a 1 br, making the living room into a bedroom but I think this is a 1br making it into 3, (spitting the master br, then splitting the living room, WTF??????????

  9. Hmm, it would depend on that bookcase that's splitting up the room. Could even be a fire code violation.

  10. They are renting 1BRs to three adults. Next thing we know they'll be dividing the spaces horizontally as well as vertically.

  11. A 2 br in my building was split into a 4 br. Downstairs neighbor called ST but they did nothing for over a year. Then they called FDNY. Apt was changed to 3 BR in less then a week.

We need those sleuths who got driven of the TAFB by the Moms.

It's illegal to have more than 3 unrelated adults in an apartment.

  14. Re that "shared" room apartment, as usual, not a rug in sight. Boy, that move in carpet inspection and enforcment really seems to be working, don't it? SHAMERRIFIC! I guess the EV musical STOMP is the template here.

"Dorm living is the life for me"..............NOT!

  15. Sorry, the "sleuths" are off the job. We are done working for free, getting badgered along the way, and never being thanked once.

  16. I thank you Alice & Janey, et. al.!!! I think the TAFB page will NEVER be as worthwhile or informative as it was when you were doing your great work. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again! The NYTimes certainly appreciated your integrity & sense of community. Still waiting for them to profile the outstanding contribution of the Moms who bullied you off the page by tattling on you rather than just sucking it up and (god forbid) even chuckling. Their kids are certain to be overprotected little stress monkeys with role models like those. They'd have been MUCH better off following the example of civic pride & responsibility that you two ALWAYS showed. I, for one, miss you & cannot begin to thank you for all that you have ALWAYS done in speaking out & about all those things that seem to fall through the cracks here these days. You are sorely missed.

  17. I debated whether to let the above through. Let's please refrain from using terms like "little stress monkeys" when referring to people's children. Otherwise, okay.

LOL...Yes it is. Only not here in ST/PCV where it is a fact of life in what I imagine is now over 25% of the apartments.

  19. Given that that the tenants lost the roberts case by the plaintiff attorneys rolling over and agreeing to astronomical post RS base rents as a means of calculating future rents, this place is finished.

  20. Probably related to the underground bunker/ management offices that were previously housed on Avenue C being constructed in the basements between 15th street to 16th street.

  21. Illegal? It's the ST business model! 9 kids to an apartment x 98 apartments per building = 6 broken washers. Lux living!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ah! Lux Living. *wistful sigh* Back in the days when you could complain AND have a sense of humor. Since management monitored its pages (and wasn't ALWAYS gleefully distracted by constant tenant fractiousness) some problems actually were mitigated!

Sadly, gone too are the days when the likes of Adam Rose would bravely (for better or worse) comment right here on STR. At least he attempted some kind of dialogue with us.

Now? CWC simply want some of us to die and the rest of us to either shut-up or move on. ANYTHING that'll allow them to jack up that rent! They'll simply mislead the newest suckers (with false promises of things like functional laundry rooms, reasonable rent increases, security, intercoms, amenities, harmony, luxury, etc.), erect a few fake walls and begin the same dance anew one year later. We're stuck with CWC (as special servicer) until 2015 and it doesn't seem like they're in any hurry to sell the place (and lose those management fees?!). I suspect the "Fire at the Rental Office" is just one of CWC's "Express Portals to Hell" leaking out through a previously undiscovered foundational flaw that they'll probably blame on either Hurricane Sandy or (formerly employed, skilled) Union Workers. Otherwise, I'm guessing 2/24@9:28PM had it right and it was just another case of someone's pants on fire over there.

  23. Still a mold problem at 285 Ave C Terrace entrance. Going on 4 months now. WHAT THE HELL!!!

  24. The rampant black mold is how they'll get away with knocking down the buildings and replacing them with Bloomberg's Bento Box apartments.

I'd love to see Bloomberg move into a box, but it would be a Bento Box, it would be a Pine Box.

  26. Why hasn't Garodnick chimed in about the mold issue at 285 ave c. T entrance?

  27. "Why hasn't Garodnick chimed in about the mold issue at 285 ave c. T entrance?"

It's not his building, so he doesn't care. How's that rent reduction for diminished services going? People don't have laundry rooms, elevators and storage units, but Campus Crock is trying to rent out storage lockers in a recent email they sent to us. They should give them to the people who lost theirs and it should be FREE OF CHARGE! BTW, I don't use a storage unit.

  28. The storage lockers were one of the many beginnings of the end of this place. I'm surprised there aren't soda and candy machines in the lobbies. Oops, hope I haven't given CW Crapital any ideas.

I think there are some machines in ST, and I remember when they were installed in the Oval.

  30. Pre-Sandy, there ABSOLUTELY were snack vending machines on the basement levels of PCV buildings. And, for the past few years.

    ReplyDelete
  31. there ARE soda & candy machines in stuy's laundry rooms.

  32. There are no soda and candy machines in my ST building. I thought they were only in PCV.

    ReplyDelete
  33. My PCV building never had vending machines. I have seen them in a building in ST.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I've lived in PCV for 3 years and there have never been vending machines.

  35. The laundry room @ 8 stuy oval has both a soda & a candy machine.Check it out.

Wowsie wowsie wow! That is really Luxury Living! When does the MCI kick in?

  37. So does 601 e. 20th at least pre-sandy when they had a basement.
