Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.

Amazing....
This is what some dog owners think of the signs here. Spotted this morning, about 9:30am. Her dog hovers around the no dog signs (I think the dog pissed on one of them, but I was too far away to take a shot), and then little Fido takes a sweet little dump inside the dog-restricted greenmarket area. I don't even know why I'm blurring the face. If Public Safety wants it, I have clear and larger photos.
STR....why do you blur out the faces? Why not simply shame these idiots?
ReplyDeleteThis is why I will NEVER shop at the Greenmarket. I prefer my fruits and veggies feces-free.
ReplyDeleteRemember the Kevin Nealon skit on SNL where he mumbled what he was really thinking as he spoke lies?
ReplyDeleteFrom the GrowNYC website: The Stuyvesant Town Greenmarket brings fresh food (dog shit) from local farms straight to the doorsteps of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village. Choose from certified Organic (dog piss) and specialty vegetables (dog shit smears), orchard fruit (dog fleas)) and berries(dog dingle berries), farmstead European-style sheep and cows milk (dog shit AND piss) cheeses and yogurt (dog spit), fresh caught fish (Coney Island Whitefish), pickles (
dog vagina juice), preserves (dog hair patches), chutneys (dog fleas),and organic artisanal (dog jism) baked goods. Regular cooking demonstrations and family friendly events make the Stuyvesant Town Greenmarket the place to be on Sunday mornings.
Couldn't resist the Coney Island Whitefish note
Move into More (Narcissism)!
ReplyDelete>>STR....why do you blur out the faces?<<
ReplyDeleteBecause I'm such a nice guy. But let's see where this goes. Public Safety can spot this young woman when they want, as she walks her dog in that area frequently, I believe.
I guess this dog owner feels that she pays a lot of rent here and is entitled to have her dog crap wherever, despite the no dog signs.
ReplyDeleteI don't confront someone when I'm taking a photo, my primary objective being the photo, but if I see her again and she's doing the same thing, I will ask her why she is so flagrantly disobeying the dog rule in that area. From experience I've had asking similar questions, she will probably ignore me and walk away, as if I don't exist. Or else say, "What's it to you?"
Let's hope the New York Post comes back this week! There's always something going on in Stuy Town!
ReplyDelete"I will ask her why she is so flagrantly disobeying the dog rule in that area."
ReplyDeleteGood! Public Safety should give you a badge and a salary, as they should to the other tenants who constantly police the property.
She's not even topless.
ReplyDeleteThis too relates to the way Sean Sullivan handled a question about recycling. When a tenant pointed out that people don't recycle properly, he replied that Management distributes literature to acquaint everyone with the rules, but that people do what they want anyway. As we all know, that's the passive, hands-off approach to enforcement that characterizes every QOL problem here. And now they're looking for illegal walls in unreno'ed apartments? This gang doesn't know how to prioritize, organize, or sanitize.
ReplyDeleteCollege kids doing whatever they want in Stuy Town? Shocking! I get we should be thankful she's not breeding pitbulls in her apartment.
ReplyDeleteI feel this has gotten petty, I'm sure the naive young girl didn't intend to skirt the rules, however the arbitrary posting location of the signs are done to appease those who prefer a non-dog complex, not some sure of magical boundary that insures peace on earth or rather stuytown.
ReplyDeleteOf course she intended to skirt the rules. Or, putting it another way, she doesn't care what the rules are. The greenmarket signs are not some "magical boundary." They were right in front of her face.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure you're a Stuy Town resident? Or do you have some innate problem that hampers your comprehension of things.
BTW, I'm getting tired of a small group of stupid people responding to this blog. If you can't comprehend what's going on here, even with photographic evidence, then chances are your idiotic comment will not get through. You're wasting my time and the time of the other readers of this blog, and are just simply a troll.
ReplyDelete>>This too relates to the way Sean Sullivan handled a question about recycling. When a tenant pointed out that people don't recycle properly, he replied that Management distributes literature to acquaint everyone with the rules, but that people do what they want anyway.<<
ReplyDeleteWhat a lame response. It's good I wasn't at the meeting, else they would have had to call the medics to subdue my rising blood pressure.
>>She's not even topless.<<
ReplyDeleteIf she were, there'd be a lot more photos.
"BTW, I'm getting tired of a small group of stupid people responding to this blog. If you can't comprehend what's going on here.........."
ReplyDeleteHa, re this issue, since I love quoting movies, here's a classic from "Aliens" re this issue:
Ripley: Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?
As Ronnie the Limo Driver said it quite eloquently:
ReplyDelete“TOPLESS. T O P L E S S. You’ll do it when you get here.”
BTW, NSFW.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICXkH4Arqag
Sean Sullivan takes dog pee very seriously! Who are we kidding, he'd simply deny it ever took place or blame Superstorm Sandy.
ReplyDelete"Or, putting it another way, she doesn't care what the rules are."
ReplyDeleteIt's not even a question of young or old re: ignoring posted signs and rules. I've seen both age groups (presumably the much older grey-haired arrogant dog walkers are RS tenants, not that it matters) totally flout the dog regulations and act as though they are only person that lives in the complex. Spot and Fluffy can unload wherever they please because hey, who's gonna stop you? The security guards? Yeah, right. I'm not defending the behaviour of these obnoxious me-first dog walkers, but the fact that enforcement of any of these rules is totally nonexistent is the real issue. Then again, I'm sure CampusRock doesn't want loud confrontations between security and dog walkers on a daily (perhaps hourly) basis. Not exactly the image you want to present when selling this place as luxury. So here we are, in Peter Pooper Village and Stuy-Smeared-Shit-On-the-Sidewalk-at-Every-Turn Town, where the four legged tenants rule the day.
I don't understand the problem - the dog is not on the oval grass that the sign refers - if memory serves, there is a fence set up so people and dogs don't go on the oval grass.
ReplyDeletePlease read those signs when/if you are the southern part of the Oval. They refer not to the grass, but the gravel area and paths adjacent to the fence, on the other side of which is the grass. Simple signs which should be clearly understood by all except those who just don't care.
ReplyDelete>>Then again, I'm sure CampusRock doesn't want loud confrontations between security and dog walkers on a daily (perhaps hourly) basis.<<
ReplyDeleteThere was such an confrontation, and even altercation, a few years ago in PCV. The Public Safety officer (then called Security) was fired.
What I find so shocking reading the comments (well, one of the things!) in this whole blog is (a) how assumptions are made about people.... you're old, you're ugly, you're from XYZ so go back to XYZ (b) and the things that are said by way of justification for breaking rules/laws.... I pay lots of rent therefore..., I pay more than you so..., we're young and "hot" and you're just jealous and petty... Reading this blog lately has me going from great hilarity to despair and back again.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the reason people are suntanning in the playgrounds is that they're one of the very few patches of earth here in our "80 acre park" that isn't used as a dog toilet every fifteen minutes!
ReplyDeleteObviously, the solution is to cap the dog permits at a reasonable number, issue tags that are clearly visable at a distance, and enforce it with a little zeal.
Of course, that would require way more commitment than our transient owners and their preferred transient tenants could ever muster up.
It would be helpful to remember that until Met Life ceded managment of the properties, there was NO sunbathing allowed anywhere in ST/PCV. You weren't allowed to sit on the benches in a bathing suit, men couldn't take their shirts off, nor could any of this be done on the Oval grass or any other grassy surface. The community prided itself on maintaining a standard of propriety and decency, and felt it was inappropriate for the visitors and guests coming here to be exposed to (for lack of a better term) immodesty. I realize that societal standards have changed, and we see so much flesh in every day life, but there should be some consideration for the appropriateness of all of this, after all, ST/PCV isn't a beach club, it's a housing development for many different kinds of people.
ReplyDeleteI remember that we used to go over to the East River to sunbathe, or even to Central Park (and occasionally sneak up to the roofs as well), but we respected the rules and the community standards, and quite honestly, it was a nicer place to live when those rules were followed. BTW, I agree with the poster who rightfully points out that most all of the grassy areas have been polluted with dog waste, and most people wouldn't want to lie in it. Maybe the dogs were a bad idea ?
"Of course, that would require way more commitment than our transient owners and their preferred transient tenants could ever muster up."
ReplyDeleteWould also require a little more enthusiasm on the part of our "Public Safety" officers when it comes to enforcing the rules.
Go to the beach Hofstra!
ReplyDeleteUnrelated... If anyone is missing a pet bird please get in contact with PS. Tonight around 8 I helped someone catch the bird by playground 7. I didn't get her name but PS should be able to put you in touch with her. A PS officer was helping her at first but he was called away to a fire.
ReplyDeleteI see people violating the dog rules all the time. And I see people from 23rd st bringing in their dogs to dump here. For now I've given up. As long as this place remains rental, there no useful point in getting perturbed. But on the day that there are buyers & owners, then we'll be in each others faces for sure, and this will be a fine place to live.
ReplyDeleteEnough with the doggie doo posts. We have real problems here people!
ReplyDeleteUnrepaired flood damage, crooked management (again), human doo in the stairwells, crumbling infrastructure, 7-11's in our lobbies (coming soon--mark my words), and on and on and on.
I really wish this blog would focus more on the serious issues facing this community.
It's good STR that you exposed this selfish SOB. Why not see how far you could get with the board of health? SHow them pics of the dog crapping and show them the pics of the greenmarket. One would thing it would be a health issue.
ReplyDeleteAs far as people not wanting to lay out in the crap infested grass, well, one would think that would be the case but I can't tell you how many bros and hoes I've seen sprawled out in the feces.

ReplyDeleteI hope that the Bird that you found was not in the "No Fly Zone"!
I can see more signs being posted in the Oval....
No dogs, No bike riding, No children playing, No two piece bayhing suits, No men without shirts (unless you have a shaved chest). I think we are going to need a bigger boat (strike boat)Sign!

ReplyDelete"Would also require a little more enthusiasm on the part of our "Public Safety" officers"
How much "enthusiasm" are you expecting from near minimum wage earners, who can't find work anywhere else. They have been delegated to checking dog tags, telling bike riders to get off their bikes, and chasing wayward birds. Imagine coming home after 8 hours of work and your wife says to you "how was work today?" And all you can say is "I nailed two bike riders and one person who forgot to put the Stuytown tag on their dog". "enthusiasm", we are lucky these guys don't hang themselves when hoisting up the flag in the morning.
>>I really wish this blog would focus more on the serious issues facing this community.<<
ReplyDeleteThis blog focuses on issues that stimulate me to post. Some serious, some not so serious, some humorous. I really don't have much time or inclination, otherwise. And my "investigative resources" are very limited. The TA Facebook does a good job of covering the serious issues, and the Town & Village newspaper has the pull to get more info out of the Powers that Be and our politicians than others.
>>How much "enthusiasm" are you expecting from near minimum wage earners, who can't find work anywhere else.<<
ReplyDeleteI don't know how much they make or their qualifications for other work, but their jobs here are kinda nice and easy, particularly in these park-like surroundings. I think other middle-class workers making the same salary would be envious.
STR, I'm putting my comment here because someone in this thread mentioned un-renovated apartments being inspected (presumably they're looking for illegal walls). Well, my appointment was for 1PM - 5PM and I waited for nothing, no one showed up. I next called the number they gave me in the inspection notice, and of course I got an answering machine. Then I called the Service Dept. to see what happened and if there was some way I could speak to a human being about this. I was told that they cannot help me, different dept., different people, no contact with one another, etc. etc. I was also told that this has happened to many others. I just called and left a message to reschedule. It just leaves you shaking with rage and frustration. What a place!!!
ReplyDeleteJust understand Public Safety can only do what is told of them. Enforce the rules but don't get into a confrontation. It's kind of an oxymoron. Telling or trying to tell the tenant's anything usually leads to confrontation and of course management doesn't want you to piss off the tenants. Whether you hate Public Safety officers or not understand they can only do and handle situations based on how management tells them.
ReplyDeleteSure seems to me like management wants to piss off the tenants (see also outrageous, mid-lease rent hikes!).

ReplyDeleteMy appointment was yesterday between 9 and 1. They showed at 10 were in and out in less than 2 minutes. Smooth as silk, not sure what happened to you. Most of the long term tenants I know have said the same thing.
@11:49 AM, I am the 5:24 PM (May 14th) poster. No one showed up for the apartment inspection. After being stood up, I called and left a message and no one has contacted me about rescheduling. I intend to call again next week because I need this settled, one way or the other. I don't want them to show up when I am not home (they give you only a week's notice). I realize there's a lot going on right now.....!
