Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.
You’re such a tease :) Believing in the old axiom that no news is good news, I am now wondering what new horrors await us?
ReplyDeleteOh, nothing that's not on the TA Facebook page. I just want to shed light on it here, given time.
ReplyDeleteWho can tell what's going on on the TA FB page? Every thread seems to be all about the vomiter, the spreading of her misinformation, and how everything affects her. The actual topics get so lost in her own issues that it's kind of hard to remember what the actual postings are about. For someone who never posted there until about 3 weeks ago, she sure is making up for lost time. Lucky us!
ReplyDeleteThat's why we're looking forward to your posts, STR, so we know what the discussion and news is actually about. Please update us soon! Thanks in advance.
Why are you so mean to people? Do you feel like a good person when you go out of your way to make fun of people. I agree she is a bit excessive, even a tad annoying, but seriously, why do you need to be so mean? It's really a terrible quality and not any better than she is. And we are all facing an uncertain future here and react in different ways. It's so petty to go out of your way to make fun of her.
ReplyDeletePcvst is going out of business. Buildings and land have been sold. They're gonna knock everything down and make a sports complex.
ReplyDeleteI'm holding off on letting more comments through that battle it out about a couple of personalities on the Facebook page. Sorry, but I don't want to bring more of that here.
ReplyDeletePretty busy now, so the updates may have to wait.

ReplyDeletePlease don't bring any of that here. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteYou're off your meds again, Mayor Bloomberg. Be a good lad and take your meds. They will also help with the dribbling we've been noticing lately.
ReplyDeleteSports? no no no. No sports in nyc. students, yes, dorms, yes. nothing else.
so obvious.

ReplyDeleteSo that's good? problem solved. Everyone stays with old rent.
For anyone submitting an affidavit about the midlease rent increase, the TA is providing FREE NOTARIES at the Community Center (on the First Avenue loop). DO NOT SIGN YOUR AFFIDAVIT--THE NOTARY HAS TO SEE YOU SIGN. Also bring ID and supporting material.
ReplyDeleteTues 6/18, Thurs 6/20, Tues 6/25--6 to 8 p.m.
Sat 6/22 and Sun 6/23--2 to 4 p.m.
If you threw away your affidavit, you can get a new one at the same time or download from the TA site: http://www.stpcvta.org/flyers/mid_lease_affidavit.pdf?utm_source=2013-06-18_AG_Settlement&utm_campaign=AG+Settles+Leasing+Practices&utm_medium=email
ReplyDeleteDid anyone here get that increase? what of it now?
Q: Did anyone here get that increase? what of it now?
ReplyDeleteA: It is effectively rescinded for anyone who can recall having a conversation with a leasing agent about the mid-term leases and was assured the landlord would never impose the increase mid-lease.
I would imagine that almost everybody who signed the mid-lease increase would have first brought up the subject with a leasing agent. That means possibly THOUSANDS of such conversations could have taken place, many simply over the phone. What a mess! I'd remember such a conversation. Not sure how agents can remember them all, though.
BUT, this only means that we pay our regular rent through the lease term. So for those of us who have a lease expiring this year, we get the HUGE increase a few months later vs. Now.
ReplyDeleteStill not happy. The increase is so much more money.
Anyone else? No one here is posting this. Is it only me who got the shaft?
I really think that Dan Garodnick's office & the TA need to explain to the FMR tenants exactly what rights CW has to raise their rents beyond the authorized RGB increases. Can CW raise rents of ANY (Roberts or FMR) tenants to the "legal" rent ? or was this (the mid-lease increase) a one time opportunity for CW to cash in ?
ReplyDeleteTenants have the right to know if they'll be forced out when they renew their leases, when they're under the assumption that increases are supposed to be set by the RGB.
Dan G and the TA do not need to explain. Authorized RGB increases only apply when FMR rents are at "legal." Simple as that.
ReplyDeleteSo hypothetically, if your current rent due is $3,434.59/mo and your legal rent is $4,213.82, at the end of your lease it would be perfectly OK for the landlord to raise your monthly rent to $4,213.82/mo on your new lease. However, if you're already paying your hypothetical legal rate of $4,213.82/mo, then your new lease can only be increased by the rates for 1 or 2 year leases set by the RGB.

ReplyDeleteEveryone who got the mid-lease increases are in the same boat as you. But if you were misled by leasing agents about the mid-lease increases, you at least have a way to finish out the course of your lease without being forced to either pay the increase or move -- without proper time to consider your options in a rental housing market with a turnover rate hovering near 1%. THAT was a douche move by mismanagement. At least now you'll have more time to consider your options. That was always the intention behind the action taken by DG and the TA.
@anon 3:04PM. Thanks for explaining that. Makes sense as the real RS apartments aren't subject to this "legal vs. preferential" rent BS.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or does anyone else think the reason they didn't push the mid-lease increases is because they would have almost a thousand empty apartments to fill.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the incredible disruption that the mass exodus of tenants would cause.
Hey, STR, what do you think of CW saying WE are petty, crass and money grubbing for filing for rent reductions for the service reductions post Sandy? Pot calling kettle !
ReplyDeleteI wanted, and still want, to cover this.
ReplyDelete"I wanted, and still want, to cover this."
ReplyDeleteGreat! Hope you do. Just read a letter in T&V about the horrors of the second-hand crap machines they are providing free for the tenants whose laundry room were destroyed. From what I hear, even if they are free they are so vile as to be practically useless. Even worse than the MacGray horrors in the still [barely] functioning laundry rooms.
