Welcome to My Nightmare

A comment on the TA Facebook page about the above new Public Safety Office located at the Oval:

"We are directly above them on the M level. That's our apartment right above the green monster. There are 4 HVAC units directly beneath our bedroom/bathroom windows. They've been testing those units out and the noise level prevents us from opening our windows, not to mention the exhaust fans that are on top of each unit. We used to look out at a green hill with trees - now we see an industrial park...bleak, noisy and toxic. We've lived through hell since the middle of November, with all of the deafening construction and toxic fumes that came up through the bathroom riser. We've contacted the management but so far no response..."

  1. Poster should consult with a lawyer. She seems to have several grounds for a lawsuit against CW or in the alternative to demand that they move her to another apartment

  2. Who do we see filled with outrage and fighting for the rights of these tenants? The TA? Goradnick? Holyman? Kavanagh? Anybody? No, fucking no one is doing a damned thing.

BTW, toxic soil has been uncovered (big DUH! considering this is the site of the former Gashouse District). Has the DEP or EPA (I know what and where they intertwine!) been notified?

I wish Charles Biaggi or some investigative reporter would come round and do an expo on this horror of horrors.

  3. I truly feel so sorry for you. It is a nightmare and a tragedy. You should be compensated in some way. Persevere.

  4. STR why are you posting photos of the Fukushima nuclear meltdown?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Why are they even bothering? In their new bunker, calls to management will still go to voicemail. CampusCrock will still screw up our rent bills, send strangers into our apartments unannounced to "inspect," and continue to run the property into the ground. Do they really need to go through all this trouble to continue their campaign of incompetence?

  6. As per John Marsh on the TA FB page, we need sharp knives to protect ourselves from rent hikes. And so it goes.

  7. Complaining after the damage is done is idiotic. Fight it before it happens. Or while it is happening. You are screwed now. And you called Management? Of course they didn't take your calls. They DON'T CARE they built it! Calling management about this is like being robbed and calling the thief. The thief isn't going to take your call, or return your things. Why, what do you expect on a call to "property management" except to give them a good laugh.

The Tenants Association knew of these plans for over a year. They knew the design and the plan and did not tell you. They did not tell any tenants. They did not oppose the installation. They didn't even turn a blind eye - they approved it!

  11. HOW STUPID are these architects and designers? Is this the same idiots doing the new management offices, STV Group Inc
    http://www.stvinc.com/

Paul Cenzoprano who is paid by Compass Rock and his father Joe Cenzoprano who is paid by STV Group are being paid double for their construction in Stuyvesant Town working both ends of the invoice.

This is piss poor design. This has to go in a hall of fame with before and after photos of the Oval.

    Such grand stupidity.

  12. 4:00 its not that contamination was "uncovered". Its that STV /FIG/CWCompass Rock / and the TA knew about all this and stirred up the soil which released the toxins. That is why it is now covered with the plastic tarp - to "minimize" the amount of toxin released into the air.

The DEP, EPA, DOB, CW, TA have not notified any of the tenants on this at all. They all know. Some tenants in buildings above the site opened their windows this weekend with the warmer weather so obviously no one has been told.

    ReplyDelete
  13. They had a lot of trucks lined up in the First Ave Loop, 20 to 40 trucks, dump trucks they filled with the contaminated soil then took away. Where did they take the contaminated soil and have those places been contained too? How do we report this?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh 4:00 I agree with you. On everything.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Why did the Department of Buildings permit excavation of contaminated soil to be released into the air? Why didn't they tell tenants about the contaminated soil at the meeting? The DOB should have objected to the excavation of the toxic soil. Why didn't they?

"Steven Figueiredo from the Department of Buildings was at the meeting and said that the DOB didn’t have any objections to the proposed work so the application remains approved."

  17. Are you kidding me?
Did anyone read the Tenant Association letter asking people to join their Board? Did anyone check out the bios of those on the Board? They brag of Real Estate expertise. BS.
They would know how to challenge and stop this from happening in the Oval and are challenging nothing.
If no one is opposing this hideousness in the Oval then why did Hoylman promise he wouldn't let anything happen to our open space?
Steinberg and Hoylman did this to the Oval.

Hmm, somehow I doubt that the TA knew of the plan/design over a year ago. As for approving the installation, I doubt that, too.

where are the lawyers fighting for this? Everyone just kvetching here.

GET AN ATTORNEY TO slap with a huge lawsuit. wtf.

  24. STR I have to disagree with you. The TA has members on Community Board 6, past and present, and at high levels on the community board. Seems they would most certainly had known of this from CB6 if not other places too.

  25. Just don't hire a lawyer at Paul Weiss!

  26. I was at the meeting last Tuesday, and it was very polite and sedate for the most part (too much so in my opinion). Where were all the angry voices then? Even when those yelling here had an opportunity to confront Andy Kane and a couple of other CW shills in person, along with the DOB guy, they didn't avail themselves of the opportunity. If you think you made a point by boycotting, you're right. You just didn't make the point you think you did.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Rent Stabilized tenants who are not interested in buying should sue the TA for non representation over the last 5 or more years. They are working with Garodnick and Paul Weiss to be buyers and they don't care about anything else. Period!

  28. As somebody has posted on the TA FB page, looks like there is going to be a major parking lot to the side of this office for PS vehicles. Although vehicles parked on the inside of this property overnight, that’s nothing new. There is a maintenance cart that is always parked on my T entrance between the two addresses. Very nice.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What's funny about this is that the poster put it on the TA's Facebook page. Do you really think the TA cares?? Seriously?

  30. If you think you made a point by boycotting, you're right. You just didn't make the point you think you did.

I didn't boycott I just don't attend TA events. They are all bullshit anyway. I understand that once you took away all the politicians, NYC employees the TA and their staffs there was only a handful of people at the meeting. Seems to me that speaks volumes about the TA's influence here!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love it when no one shows to TA meetings they don't post pictures but when the sheep waddle out for a phony MCI meeting the TA and T&V blast pictures all over the place.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I need to get organized and start attending these TA meetings. I am spending too much time looking for the information I need. I'm missing all of the important dates and deadlines in the community and it's making me feel really unproductive, inefficient and overwhelmed.

  34. "The Tenant Association and CWCompass Rock have rezoned 272 - 278 from Residential to Business."

Please--come back to reality. The TA can't rezone anything. And just because you say it doesn't make it so. Ditto for tacking the TA on to each of your rants.

  35. The “hills” on the east side of the oval both north and south were manmade after Robert Moses and Mayor LaGuardia devised a “slum clearance plan”. One man I grew up knowing, he worked as an assistant custodian at Stuyvesant High School, left his folks to enter WWII after the attack on Pearl Harbor and when he returned his church, school and childhood apartment had been condemned to make way for our beloved oval.
I remember when Met Life put two chess tables with benches on top of both hills north and south on the east side of the oval. They appeared one day and lasted a year or two and then vanished quietly. It was a nice quiet place to sit, shaded and away from what was the hustle and bustle of people walking around the oval.
I’m a native New Yorker and an enjoy observing nature. If you take note to look at both the north and south hills on the east side of the oval during the spring you’ll notice something quite amazing. The north hill burst into spring about seven to ten days before the south hill. The sun warms the north hill.
CW has set the new security office on the cold side of the oval. I’m sorry our neighbors have to suffer the noise and indignity of what was for a time a very peaceful sylvan glade here in the midst of NYC. Other building residents sit over trash compactors, recycling routes, planting repotting and seedling stations.
Let’s stay united as tenants and understand a neighborhood that was considered a slum in the 1930’s can once again be redefined, rezoned and we will all lose the calm sense of security we once believed would last well beyond our residency.
    In solidarity

  36. This is absolutely outrageous. This kind of ongoing harassment of tenants is unacceptable. Time to take legal action against management for invasion of privacy, etc.

  37. Thank you STR for all the work you do keeping us informed. I used to get news from Facebook but it's full of mean drunks and an angry mutant bully. Your site is the best coverage Stuy Town has. You are a real trooper. Thank you!

  38. Please--come back to reality. The TA can't rezone anything. And just because you say it doesn't make it so. Ditto for tacking the TA on to each of your rants

True, The poster should have said the TA and Feckless Dan didn't oppose the re-zoning despite tenants wishes.

  39. Within a year I'm sure CompassCrock will move security again. This company does nothing but waste money on meaningless things. An electrician told me in plants alone the company spent close to $30M. That's ludicrous. Hope somebody will buy this place and turn it around.

I agree with the last sentence of your post, but I don't agree that the TA facebook page is full of "mean drunks and an angry mutant bully." I read it on a regular basis and I acknowledge that there is a lot of anger and frustration expressed at the way tenants are being treated by CW, but I never get the sense that anyone is drunk or mean. People voice their genuine concerns about things that profoundly affect their lives in a very negative way, so a note of anger is totally understandable. I don't see anybody doing any bullying over there although there have been occasional heated differences of opinion.

  43. Tenants fought last summer to get the security office and management office near the garages and off the pedestrian walkways. MetLife had the good sense to keep the pedestrian and the vehicle sidewalks separate. The city and architects knew this. The tenants were opposed in their fight by the TA. Now we have a parking lot in the Oval. Thank the TA for that.
