A Walk Through "A Park Runs Through It"

STPCV was promoted during the Tishman-Speyer days as "A Park Runs Through It," so I thought it would be nice on this sunny Saturday to take a brief tour.

The fencing around the construction of the new management office now contains Orwellian/The Village (a la "The Prisoner") signs that are quite amusing...

"More Convenient. More Attentive." Promises, promises.

Not to worry: "More Family. More Fun"!!!

The artist makes the new playground look like the size of a football field!

What's behind the fence.

 Meanwhile, nearby, dog crap!

A new place to dump garbage, it seems: the back of buildings!

Throughout the complex, fences are in ruins.

I don't think the wind did this. Perhaps it's the entrance to a make-shift dog run.

"A Slum Runs Through It"
If it's vandalism, our award-winning security system, for which we all are paying an MCI, must have already tagged the culprits.

PCV: Now if I see this, why can't management? public safety? maintenance? Hello, is anyone there?
Of course, if we had "boots on the ground," something like this would have been spotted and repaired within half an hour.

Nearby... dog crap again!

Yes, Councilman Dan Garodnick's garbage is still being placed outside his luxury PCV building.

  2. Does Goradnick and his family really live here, or is it an address he uses while he lives somewhere decent? If he really does live here and he puts up with this, then he is a total loser because he SHOULD be on CW's case.

    More attentive to nothing important!

    More bros! More beer pong!

More new playgrounds to replace the other new playgrounds!

More families harassed with nasty letters!

    More rent bills arriving late!

    More rent checks not cashed!

    More FUCKERY from Andrew MacArthur!

  9. That trail of doody looks like it's been stepped on more than once. This used to be one of the few places in the city where I didn't have to walk with my eyes in a fixed downward position, scanning the path ahead for feces. Maybe they should stock those vending machines in the laundry rooms with materials to clean crap off your shoes.

  10. Why is there a random pile of crushed drywall outside of a building???

  11. I don't know why it's been there for over a day. After my photo post, it was removed.

  12. Hi STR -- You could also add "More Parking" and "More Destruction of Nature" with a photo of the new utterly misplaced paved parking lot for security vehicles to pollute and foul the Oval, you know, where a park used to run through. "They paved paradise, put up a parking lot..."

  13. They finally reopened laundry room in my building about 2 weeks ago and since then nothing. No work on recycling area in basement which requires no plumbing or electrical work just someone to spend a few hours finishing up. So we continue to be required to put recyclables in the same disgusting gray plastic bins outside the front door of our building which have been there since Sandy- now sixteen months ago! Luxury housing at its finest!

  14. A lot of the fences were damaged by the snow plows. PCV was a wreck after the last snow melted, and apparently, nothing has been fixed. I went by the basketball playground in ST today and couldn't believe that all the snow hadn't been removed, although this is consistent with the rest of the grounds and the city in general. Maybe it isn't prime basketball weather, but the open space could be used.

I don't know why you're ragging on Dan for having the recycling still in front of his building. His isn't the only one. Sandy repairs are still ongoing, and other than putting a firecracker up CW's collective ass, I don't know what would make them finally finish the necessary work. After enduring jackhammering in the basement for the past couple of weeks (not conducive to doing laundry in our newly reopened laundry room after 15 months), we got a notice today that there will be emergency plumbing work in the basement for the next 2 weeks with noticeable noise and vibrations, and I'm sure they won't be good ones.

Oh yeah--the new toilet in the laundry room won't be accessible. I count that as a good thing.

Dan's building is still not back up and running since Sandy hit a year and a half ago. If he won't advocate for himself, his family, his friends and his community, why would anyone expect him to be effective elsewhere in the city.?

    He looks like a joke.

  17. BTW, the new PS office is now open. The large parking lot to the left of it is still under construction. You can see our vaunted MCI approved security monitors from the outside. Sponge Bob for now, bikinis still to come. No sign of them building a sarcophagus to cover that noisy green ventilation horror show.

Just throw it down the garbage chute with the rest of the garbage. Why even bother recycling under such conditions?

We all look like a joke. I've reported things over and over again, and CW has done nothing. And they will do nothing because they have total contempt for us (and their staff, by the way). The fact that Dan's building looks like this should make it clear that he isn't in CW's pocket, as some have suggested on this blog.

As for that photo, it's not reasonable to expect the recycling to be whisked away the moment it's deposited. But management has made an effort to keep the areas neat and clean (can't believe I'm saying something positive about CW). They have sent around trucks to cart away the recycling on a reasonably frequent schedule. In fact, the outdoor recycling has been cleaned up more frequently and better than the basement areas ever were. I'd even go so far as to say I prefer the outdoor bins to those in the basement.

Here's where the contempt for staff comes in. The new recycling areas give access to the bins from behind, not the front. The porter will go to a restricted area to empty the bins. However, the bins are accessible only by a door that's waist high. One door gives access to two bins, so the porter will have to pull one out in order to reach the other. How will these areas be cleaned if dirty recycling or other debris falls into the bin area? The porter will have to crawl into the space to clean it.

My building is now undergoing an additional 2 weeks of emergency plumbing work in the basement (let the jackhammering continue), and the recycling area hasn't been finished.

And you think you have a gripe?

  22. >>I live in Dan's building. We have our basement back up and running. The picture you showed in NOT Dan's building.<<

Funny, I have two sources of info on Dan's address, which IS that building. However, on the off-chance that it may not be that building, let me know which building he lives in and I'll verify, and won't make the address public. If I'm wrong, I will admit it and delete the photo from the main page.

  23. Not gonna give his address to anyone. Take my word- his building is NOT that building. His building is my building n I can assure you that the basemen is completed. No garbage outside of our entrance. Please check your source .

  24. Whether it's Garodnick's building or not, the fact remains that he has done nothing to protest the conditions prevailing in those buildings. He is a wimp at best, a corrupt politician at worst. He has done NOTHING, as in not a goddamn fucking thing for us, the people who live in his constituency and are, for the most part, people who voted for him. His complacency and appeasement of this vile landlord speaks volumes as to the caliber of his leadership and it raises questions as to his motives for being such a limp dick.

  25. >>Not gonna give his address to anyone. Take my word- his building is NOT that building.<<

I assured you that I wouldn't give out his address, so since you refuse to give it, the status of that photo remains. I consider my word sacred, but you don't apparently.

Anyway, I've received confirmation that the building in that photo was, at the very least, Garodnick's residence for a good while. I say "was" because in one of his recent town hall meetings Handsome Dan did say that he had to find a bigger apartment when a new baby arrived. But that building was Dan's residence for years. It still may be.

  29. Let me explain that photo to those of you who don't live in the buildings affected by Sandy, and that's 93 out of 110 addresses. The photo shows that the recycling has recently been attended to by someone on staff because it's bagged in large clear plastic bags. That means the bins were emptied to make way for more recycling instead of being allowed to overflow as they used to do in the basement. For all you know, the bags were carted away five minutes later. And even if they weren't, the area is fairly neat. Is this ideal? Of course not. But it's a lot better than dog crap all over the paths, and that's tenants' fault.

  30. Those bags were unfortunately not taken away in five minutes. Whenever I walk through Peter Cooper in the morning, you see the garbage outside (yes, packed nicely, but it's still garbage). And in front of many PCV buildings.

I don't remember this being "the look" of PCV before Sandy.

While a number of buildings (including mine ) still use the disgusting gray plastic bins for recycling, those bins are no longer outside the building in which Dan Garodnick lives. He lives in the building next to mine .

Just put everything down the garbage chute and let the SDNY deal with it. If it is a problem, they will fine CW and then, maybe, the real recycling program will be resumed within the buildings. I would not lift a finger to enable this situation to continue as is.

  37. I have the joy of living above the new PS office, in the adjacent building. Construction was bad enough. When it went "live" last week, amid the digging, my old-school copper landline went out. First time in 12+ years. Coincidence? I think not. And the night view of the screens from across the oval is a horror. The outside is now full inside. Fewer trees, lots of noise, a view of a parking lot with 24/7 activity? For this, I paid a premium to live on the Oval? I've got a little over a year left and I'm done.

I think you should sue for misrepresentation. You didn't know you were moving into a construction site, with all its attendant filth and noise. You have been ripped off and you need a good lawyer.

This look is indeed post-Sandy, and 15 PCV buildings were affected because our basements flooded with several feet of water. ST residents may not be aware of how much of our infrastructure was knocked out--not only did the basements have to be dried out and gutted, but electrical panels had to be relocated, some intercom systems had to be replaced, and at least one building underwent major elevator repair. Work is still going on (at a glacial pace). Anyway, a truck comes around several times a day to remove the recycling. I saw a pickup at 9 p.m. the other evening. Before Sandy, we had disgusting overflowing bins in the basement (thanks, neighbors). We had garbage that should have gone down the chute dumped on the floor in the recycling area. We had unwashed recycling mixed in with clean recycling (hola, cucarachas!). Because the recycling is now visible, management has been far more diligent in keeping up with it, although you can't entirely blame the porters for not having been able to keep up with the mess that tenants made. When the basements are all finally finished, the recycling will go back inside.
