Preview of Forthcoming Post -- "We Live in the Projects"

Photos taken today, by the 20th St Loop, in preparation for a major post on PCVST and its kinship to "the projects." I didn't even have to search for what's below. I pass it by almost daily. Click on photos to make them bigger.

Below, on the right, you will see a wavy and damaged railing, with a pathetic attempt to fix it. On the left, the railing is completely missing, and there's poor cement work in the foreground--I guess another attempt at a "fix."

Below: The steps walkway on that side. The concrete at the corner is severely chipped, with missing chunks. Do note the dog crap on the bottom left corner, and, if you can spot it, two turds by the first post. There were more dog turds and smears on the way up.

If you saw something like this when walking through the projects on the Lower East Side, you'd think slum.

Such disrepair is seen day after day and becomes the new "new."  Soon we ignore it and don't realize how much has really changed.

  1. The property bears absolutely no resemblance whatsoever to how it used to be before CWCap got their filthy hands on it. They have systematically destroyed the place by neglect and design. RIP PCVST.

  2. What a disgrace! I do believe that "they "are trying to push us out. Hoping that we just get fed up & leave. Would not surprise me if the sale is something out of left field - like - half of ST is sold to NYU & the other half is divided between low income & market rate. Never know. I guess we will find out soon enough.

  3. Part of what's happening, I think, is the crafting of a prospectus that will show that maintenance doesn't cost as much as it did before. Lowering operational costs was the rationale for getting rid of union painters, Rose Management, etc. That's why the Oval was pruned so much of its previous foliage and gardening. Now the Oval is a relatively low-cost maintenance operation, with the periodic placement of small areas of new flowers.

  5. STR -YOU ARE RIGHT. ALL ABOUT THE BOTTOM LINE. HOPEFULLY, THE POTENTIAL BUYERS WILL LOOK AROUND & SEE THESE HOLES IN THE MAINTENANCE REPORTS. SCARY TIMES.

  8. I agree with 7:01 pm. I hope prospective buyers really pore over the books of these crooks and see the great big holes in the figures. If they don't, it will be their stupid fault for not doing their homework. Remember how Tishman Speyer believed all the bullshit that MetLife fed them? It would be laughable if only it hadn't affected so many innocent people's lives so badly.
Rob Speyer was totally taken in by MetLife's book-cookers and that shows what a totally stupid dolt he was, but we tenants were the ones who suffered. I hope the next buyer of this property has some intelligence and savvy and, unlike the Speyer Idiot, really forces CW/CR to be transparent.

  10. Many projects in NYC have cleaner outside grounds then PCV/ST. No joke

Take a walk over to Ave C and 12th street and you will NOT see this filth and disrepair at the low income housing campus.

  11. There is a group of kids who slowly destroy the flagpole at the eastern end of the 20th Street loop with their skateboards every night. Aside from that obnoxious slapping, cracking and the subsequent OHHHHH screaming, the edges of the flagpole are becoming chipped and cracked.

  12. Skateboarding should be banned on the property. Damn noisy and chips cement away.

  13. I've seen those kids skateboarding down the large curved ramp. That's accident/collision just waiting to happen.
