Public Safety More Interested in Their Cell Phones

Right now, there's a public safety officer inside the Oval guard booth. Two bicycles pass him by, but he doesn't notice because his eyes are buried into the wonders that his cell phone offers. Two more bicycles pass him by, and by chance he raises his head. He notices them, doesn't move, and then they are already exiting the Oval. He changes position...and goes back to his cell phone.

Just now a food delivery guy riding a bicycle goes by the booth. Not sure if the public safety officer has stopped his cell phone activity, but even if he has, he doesn't do anything.

Several bicycles have passed him by in the space of five minutes, but this guy is immobile inside the guard booth.

Have a nice day!

  1. Each and every time I see any "Public Safety" officers, whether in or out of their vehicles, they are ALWAYS ALWAYS texting or reading their cell phones. This is no better than someone sleeping on the job. Does CR approve of paying these guys to spend their time on their cell phones and totally ignore what is going on around them? And we are paying a fucking MCI for the "enhanced" security on the property.
"Security" is a total joke around here. We have none.

  2. Yep. Had one come to our home recently and was on his cell phone all the way up to our door. Heard him chatting and chatting.

  4. These guys do nothing about the bikes. Ever.

  5. Who cares? People roller blade and skate board. Same shit as a bike but no rules for that.

  6. Don't blame security officers. Blame their bosses who have no clue on how too run a department. So called supervisors who say they'll take care of something and nothing gets done. I've spoken to some who are down because CR robbed them of days off and their boss did nothing to work on the situation. Guess they need a union. No place for advancement or incentives so what is reason for them to work hard? Tons of security jobs out there so it won't be hard to get another. Maybe if they had something too look forward too they would put in better efforts. Second PCVST is safe place. You say they do nothing so fine get rid of them and you'll see withing days the property will fall apart. Word will get around their is no security then all the thugs from the projects across the street and over by Ave C and ave D will start hanging out on property. Crime will go up. So instead of complaining get a hobby. Go out and do something.

  7. >>Don't blame security officers. Blame their bosses who have no clue on how too run a department.<<

One can blame both. Look, being a Public Safety officer in ST/PCV is an easy gig. There's practically no crime here, so what's left is enforcing quality of life issues.

  8. No job allows you to talk personally on your cell and text while on the job. Not waitresses, security officers, or even white collar jobs. No real employer allows their employees to talk and text on personal calls while they are being paid to be at work. Its unprofessional.

  9. I'm sure it's an easy gig but I'm sure like anything its made more difficult than it has too be. Look we're in an era where electronics pretty much run the world. Look PCVST is "private property" but let's be real, you get thousands of non residents a day passing through. The thing with bikes is what can security really do? I've witness a bunch of times security telling someone no bike riding but 9 out of 10 just ride past them. 1 guard told me they can issue an actual NYC summonse but their Bosses don't want that because they don't want too police the residents. so in that case why would anyone listen if no action will be taken? It goes for these young college brats running around acting stupid and drinking in public. I heard the guards can also give a ticket for that buy once again, big bosses say no they live here they can do whatever they want. So I think regular guards are fed up and if their bosses don't care neither should they.

  10. I agree with not blaming employees - management tells them what to do, or not do.
Humans will get away with whatever they can and as least amount of work as possible if they're allowed to. Fact.

Sounds like the same old preachy harpy who loves to be Hall Monitor.

  12. The number of bikes vs the number of roller blades (really, 1993 much?) and the number of skateboards are hugely disproportionate.

  13. There's plenty of crime! it goes unreported and uninvestigated. Stolen packages for starters.

  15. Some of these guys are ok; many are not. The problem here is that the chief of security is useless and appears to have no idea how to discipline his troops. Remember when they screwed the people with handicap placards by changing the overnight parking regulations in the loops to No Standing and then proceeded to manufacture their own phony parking placards and using them to illegally park all over the place after including the loops overnight? Looked like police placards but said special patrolman on the patch part. He didn't end that until DOI got IAD to beat the precinct over the head. By the way - if you look closely, you can see that they still do that except now they just put the arm patches on the dashboard.

And did any heads roll when they told tenants that a security officer would be present when contractors entered to work on the intercoms (the security guy posted himself in the hallway working his cell phone) and gave the master key to the contractors that resulted in four burglaries about two years ago?

Or did heads roll when the ice-pick guy roamed the community doing two jobs in the space of a half-hour or so, or when a gang of young thugstas moved about one day for about an hour a few years back sticking up several young residents before they got grabbed on 20th street?

Or what about a year or so ago when, after several years of dogs and dog rules, the chief announced they would begin to enforce them.

I think the answer is no because the chief is still here. The fish rots from the head down.

Indeed, New York state has restored 28,000 units to rent-stabilization over the past two years, and won refunds for overcharged tenants, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in February.

    ReplyDelete

  17. In New York, legal rate increases for these apartments are set yearly.

The state’s Division of Housing and Community Renewal tracks rent-stabilized properties and posts a log of the buildings online.

Residents can request a copy of their apartment’s rent history from the agency to determine if their home qualifies, and if they were charged more than the regulated rates; if they were overcharged, they may be entitled to a refund plus interest.

  18. >>Or what about a year or so ago when, after several years of dogs and dog rules, the chief announced they would begin to enforce them.<<

There's no enforcement any more of the dog rules. I see non-registered and banned dogs walked around the Oval, right in front of Public Safety, and nothing is said. It's a scandal. I do wonder, however, if CW or CompassRock is behind this lack of enforcement.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Funny thing with the dogs. I have seen breeds banned but still on property and some do have tags. Strange but they do. On other subjects of robbery and stick ups. These guys aren't armed. Why the hell would they try and prevent stuff like that from happening?? Ice pick vs flashlight? I wonder who wins? With the size of this property and all the entrances to enter our 80 acre of luxury maybe they should be armed. That's my opinion. As far as packages go, blame delivery guys for leaving them in middle of a lobby or hall way. I don't know what world the person who said nobody uses cell phones at work is from but EVERYONE uses them. I've been too plenty of restaurants Bars, commercial buildings etc and seen workers use them. Whether it's 1 min or 10 mins. NYPD Sanitation FDNY EMS use them especially during downtime when nothing is going on. It's different if an emergency is happening. Bike riding and dogs is not an emergency.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Perhaps a huge collective group who is being overcharged here should gather hire legal counsel and fight this. What's the first step?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes, like many things with security - an announcement but no follow-up.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If CW and compass rock are behind it , it could be to keep us complaining about it instead of focusing on the other things they are doing. You know, getting us to look over here so we don't see what they are doing over there. It is the same tactic Susan used with the bikinis so tenants weren't focused on the NYU illegal walls and population increases and safety hazards. Not one complaint or press article on that but several on Susan and the bikinis.
I think we should be careful if we are to complain about security. The complaint is about them "doing their jobs" and not that tenants are saying there isn't enough and asking for increased security. The measures on monitoring tenants as it is, is greater than measures on monitoring non-residents (eg above examples of robbery, thugs). Their focus is on monitoring residents for evictions instead of security and safety. Yes the head sets the policies and needs to be removed and be replaced by someone who won't blindly do what CW and Compass Rock and Fred Knapp orders them to do in their aggressions against tenants.

    ReplyDelete
  23. >>Bike riding and dogs is not an emergency.<<

No one is saying otherwise. But what I'm saying is that there's little happening in the way of true crime that PS has to be involved with all the time, so PS may as well do its job and go after quality of life issues, of which bike riding and dogs are part.

I don't buy it that just because cellphone use is rampant, PS officers get a a pass at monitoring their cellphones rather than quality of life issues.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The quality of life around here has diminished dramatically. There is NO NEED to have all these DOGS, crapping and pissing ALL over the place, and we tenants DO NOT want to live in a dorm. THIS IS NOT FAIR. I see more and more long term tenants moving out because they can't take it anymore. Can you blame them? Making life for the rest of us miserable!

    ReplyDelete
  25. 9;34 and STR. WE know. we know. I'm quite tired of posts and complaints about things we can't do anything about. The dogs, we know. Move on. Are you a troll trying to distract tenants from problems we may be able to work on now? Rent increases, Major Cap Improvements? RS and Noise?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Per the city there are 6000 apartments still in the RS affordable rate.

Per DOB there are 3000 apartments divided with wall partitions for student housing dorms
(this doesn't include the many more that were done without DOB permits)

From online listings there are hundreds of apartments available for rent at MR and none at RS.

Seems there are only maybe between 500 - 1200 permanent residents paying MR.

Doubtful any landlord could fill the MR rate apartments with permanent residents given the competitive offerings at same rate in Manhattan.

  27. CW's motto: "If you don't like it, you can leave".

    That's exactly their plan.

    ReplyDelete
  28. "I see more and more long term tenants moving out because they can't take it anymore. Can you blame them? Making life for the rest of us miserable!"

This is proof positive that CW's evil plans are working. The want to drive out long term tenants. They want their apartments so they can jack-up the rent 500% and cram them full of BroHos.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Just found out they installed new wiring in the halls above each apartment. Anyone know why?

We can absolutely do something about dog rule infractions here: mandate that CW enforce the rules.

There's no way I'm going to stop mentioning the problem of non-registered and banned dogs in ST/PCV and the dog shit that a few dog owners (probably from outside the community) leave behind.

  35. New wiring is for the new intercom video being installed in each apartment. Funny, because they don't work!!! That's what I hear.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "With the size of this property and all the entrances to enter our 80 acre of luxury maybe they should be armed."

There are exactly 8 entrances to ST and 8 entrances to PCV, not counting PC Road which is staffed around the clock with security.

Arming them would be ludicrous, a major risk to the safety of tenants and a ginormous liability risk to management.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Arming them would add more power and respect and the disrespectful people and non residents will respect them more. Public safety in other states are considered police and armed. 16 entrances for any lowlife person to walk through and start trouble. PC Road post is a joke. They Do Nothing But Wave CARs through. Not like they're checking the cars for anything.

      Delete
  37. 6:36 um ok, tell me why again we're paying and MCI for intercom when we don't have one?

It's a joke right? No one in their right minds would put up with this.

  38. So I was just told that the workers who were installing the wiring in the buildings were told to lie to the residents! The workers were told to tell residents wiring was for heat sensors to make sure the buildings were heated consistently but the workers then laughed and said they couldn't keep a straight face.

    ReplyDelete
  39. We can't do anything about anything anymore. The only enforcement around here is the collection of your rent. OH, by the way? More parking spaces taken away from us. Look at the 3 spaces across playground 9 to be used for the NEW management office. We can't do anything about that too, right? They are going to do basically almost anything they want to do, and everything else is a pure WASTE OF TIME! Simply appalling!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Be more specific. Are these Verizon people or another contractor installing these new wires? Anyone else have more info on this?

    ReplyDelete
  41. We need to get organized and start flooding the management office with letters and post cards! Just do it!

    ReplyDelete
  42. 9:30 PM here.
8:20 AM I don't know who installed the wiring. I asked workers yesterday about it and that is what they said. When was it installed?

    ReplyDelete
  43. 10 25 letters about what? postcards to say?

    ReplyDelete
  44. 8 20 am. They were in our building as well. Not Verizon. Rude nasty guys too. I think it's sub metering.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Owners of residential buildings in NYC have to get approval from the State Public Service Commission for submetering.

TS filed a petition with the state in 2008 to submeter STPCV but withdrew it in 2009. I can find nothing on record since.

    ReplyDelete
  46. 10:40 Thanks for looking that up! Is CW trying to do it without proper permission as they have done so many other things without proper permission, permits, and at times unlawfully?
Aren't some type of permits required to install wiring in the hallways? I can't find anything on that at DOB but those filings have so many lies, blanks, and ambiguity on the paperwork they make it easy for the developers to do shoddy work and work beyond the scope of the permits.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Submetering is going to happen here. All the leases have verbiage pertaining to it. Read your lease.

    ReplyDelete
  48. IT JUST DOESN'T END HERE. I AM SOO TIRED OF THIS PLACE.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Submetering constitutes a dimunition of services under the RS regulations, and they will need to lower rents to cover your ConEd bill. I don't think they will do that unless the complex is a condo or co-op, and even then I doubt they want to lower any legal rents. They buy utilities in bulk from ConEd, and still manage to turn a tidy profit above operating expenses.

    ReplyDelete
  50. If they're putting in high voltage (120/220) electrical wiring, it needs to be installed within the soffits that were constructed when they did the A/C rewiring. They can't just tack it up in a molding above the doorways like they do for cable and telephone.

    ReplyDelete
  51. We all know that CW does exactly what it wants to do, regardless of the illegality. They must have some very incriminating photographs or writings of our politicians because there is no way they would be able to get away with all the shit that they do get away with if they weren't paying or blackmailing.

This is one of the filthiest, corrupt, despicable scum that ever called itself a "landlord" in the history of New York City.

    ReplyDelete
  52. And this scum will be our landlord soon for a very very long time. We WARNED you. No one helped or listened.

    ReplyDelete
  53. A rental model not a losing proposition given the criteria here... Aging population - rapid emptying of and turning over--- in a few years time, emptying of buildings, and all that land. It's the land they want. You can't own the land and develop it over th next 20 years if you've sold it off as coops or condos.

    Right?

    ReplyDelete
  54. To anyone who thinks leash laws are not enforced, think again. I have a July 10th court date to prove it. I am a resident and I was not only cited for letting my 30 lb dog walk beside me off leash, but I was visited by not one but THREE "Public Safety" officers who showed up at my door later that day, literally banging on it with fists and yelling "OPEN THE DOOR PLEASE" clearly trying to menace me. A couple of my neighbors who overheard the racket got alarmed at this bizarre show of force, thinking I had done something really bad. Pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  55. 4:18 they did the same thing to my neighbors and their dog. Harassed them and threatened them with eviction and lease violation for something that wasn't their fault. They fought back rightfully so and won. Security spies on tenants with cameras then meets with management and legal dept and then goes to tenants apartment with at least 2 - 3 security officers to intimidate and witness and look around apartment.
Anyone going through this should videotape the aggressive officers. Before you open your door to security officers turn on your video cameras and get it on tape!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Sorry, but I have to wonder if we are hearing the whole story. PS doesn't turn up in mass for an off leash dog violation or any other triviality.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yeah- nothing like half a story.

    ReplyDelete
  58. This is anon 4:18. Don't know what to tell you dude, it happened. But you giving those guys the benefit of the doubt doesn't surprise me.
