Okay, now I'm angry, really angry. I've just been reading on the TA Facebook page that residents around the construction of the new management office are being woken up at 6am due to work being started early in the morning on the building--sorry, "cellar extension." I don't live in the affected area, but I certainly feel for the tenants there, as I'm sure we all do. According to NYC noise codes, construction can only begin at 7am, unless there is a special authorization from the Dept of Buildings that authorizes otherwise. I know that management has received such authorization for work beyond 6pm, but I'm not aware of any authorization before 7am. I've also never heard of DoB authorizations allowing work so early in the morning in a residential area. Does anyone know if such a new authorization has been posted on the site? (I'm at work and can't go to the site myself.)
And look at this monster "cellar extension"!!! (Photo from TA Facebook.)
I'm going to add more content here later, if I can, including a review of what CW/CompassRock promised about the noise and disturbances arising from this work (promises that I knew were bullshit), the TA and Garodnick's responses, etc.
Sorry I can't deal with this expeditiously, but I have to deal with work now.
This is a MAJOR project. What is it worth to them to spend an enormous amount of money on this? Another possible Sandy? I can't believe it. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMajor MCI.
ReplyDeleteResidents filed a complaint with the DOB on the 6:00 AM start time. It must be unbearable. Sad the trees will never again peek over the buildings as you walk towards ST on 17th street. I miss them already. Pathetic all around. Despicable.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. By definition, it has to be an improvement or an installation to an existing building. I'm not concerned about it. For God's sake, they are pretty much constructing a new one on its own.
ReplyDeleteSTR-In both meetings the point was emphatically made by the TA and CampusRock: no MCI because this thing does not qualify under the law.
ReplyDeleteAlso. People in my building are filing 311 complaints because of the early construction. People should take note of their complaint number and forward that info to Community Board 6. Contact info: office@cbsix.org or 212-319-3750.
Nothing will happen if those complaints aren't made.
>>Residents filed a complaint with the DOB on the 6:00 AM start time.<<
ReplyDeleteThe DOB may send someone to investigate in two weeks, if we can go by past experience, unless this would be considered an emergency. Too late by that time.
People should still fill complaints, and, as suggested above, forward complaint numbers to Community Board 6.
As for this not qualifying for an MCI, I certainly hope so.
According to a recent post on the TA Facebook, work started today at 7am, instead of 6am.
ReplyDeleteOf course, it should never have started at 6am the other day, and these bastards know it. They also know they can get away with it once in a while.
STR: This does not qualify as an MCI. It does not have a useful life schedule. What are you talking about?
ReplyDeleteIf it doesn't qualify, fine, excellent. I await what the future will tell!
ReplyDeleteby the time DOB shows up , work at unauthorized hours will no longer be happening. Somebody at DOB probably gives CW a heads up when they are finally getting around to send out an inspector. I once called 311 about the failure of CW to fix the intercom for over 6 months after Sandy. An inspector didn't show up for months after I filed a complaint. Going to Community Board 6, particularly as a group, is likely to be more helpful
ReplyDeleteI'm an affected resident. I sent an email to Garodnick's office. I know, I know. We'll see what happens.
ReplyDeleteSomebody at DOB is on CW's payroll.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely ridiculous what they are doing. No need for it.
ReplyDeleteJuly 3, 2014 at 1:59 PM-Hopefully you filed a complaint and noted the reference number for the complaint. Community Boards are charged with handling quality of life complaints. As was noted earlier, that's who you should contact. Ours is Community Board 6. Be sure to have your complaint number when you call. They're at: office@cbsix.org
ReplyDeleteor 212-319-3750.
311 forwards the complaints to Community Board 6 and to the DOB.
ReplyDeleteYou can in addition forward your complaint to Community Board 6 but you don't have to. 311 sends it there too.
3:44 Completely Agree. Disgusting on the part of all who had a hand in this.
ReplyDeleteThe TA should not have fought against the residents of those buildings. This should not have been built.
ReplyDeleteSigh, the TA the TA the TA. Form your own TA. you can make a difference without them.
ReplyDeleteWhat, exactly, does the TA do? What do they do justify their existence?
ReplyDelete311 is another joke on top of the joke of
ReplyDeleteDHCR and DOB. These offices do not work for the residents and citizens. They haven't in years. Disgusting.
8:22 Totally Agree! The corruption runs deep against New Yorkers by City Agencies. We need the very very few good ones to clean house ASAP!
ReplyDeleteSerious corruption in NYC housing. Expose it if I can or you can.
ReplyDeleteThose who supported this office building, the Buyers Association, (TA, DG, BH, BD,) do not have the best interest of PCVST or its Residents in mind - with each of their acts against us getting more astonishing, Roberts, NYU dorms, the MCI fiasco, the Oval, This business building.
ReplyDeleteWhat was the date of the STR management office thread so I can reread it?
"We need the very very few good ones to clean house ASAP!"
ReplyDeleteWho would they be? Brewer, Kavanagh, maybe? Certainly NOT Holyman or Garodnick!
What are you doing on the roof?
ReplyDeleteThis toxic office building was built on deceit and lies and now we can also add animal cruelty with the burying alive of the squirrels. Was that reported?
