Is This Legal?

Check this out. On RentHop.com there is a listing of Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper Village apartments. Note that many have the same photos as others, and I suspect all are not photos of the actual apartments being rented. I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that such ads for apartments have to contain photos of the apartment being rented, rather than some generic photo.

Anyway, interesting to see the price differences at least.

P.S. Unless a new law is in the books, apparently it is legal:

  1. What about truth in advertising? Some of those photos seem to be computer mock-ups, like the one that shows pendant lights over the dining table or do renovated apartments have electrical connections in the ceilings? One photo shows wallpaper, which older leases forbid. PCV shots used for ST apartments. Truth, thy name is not CWCapital.

  2. This place used to be so desirable there was a 10 year wait list to get in. I can't believe how many apartments are available and have to be advertised and with camera angles tricks and staging furniture! The place must really have gone to crap if they have to try this hard and desperate to get people in. That is embarrassing.

  3. Rolling Stone Magazine says it all.

Here is why we withheld our votes and why we will not vote for any incumbent next go around. The democrats stage events to make it look like they are doing their jobs when truth is they are not fighting for us people. They are caving into big business.

Just like the Saturday meeting staged event by CWCTA. Dan et al are on the side of RE big business and not at all, not one iota, fighting for the people to keep our basic human right of shelter, our homes. I will never again waste a minute of my life on their staged scripted events.

Angry I went or even gave them a chance to redeem themselves and turnaround and do right by this community. They have no intention or care of the people here. They only cared about showing their unity behind the Brookfield deal.

  4. The plan.
A business model based on deaths of elderly and evictions of middle class.
Then they make the property ugly - making once beautiful tree park ugly
Then they increase the operating costs and severely cut the groundskeepers and maintenance to misleadingly inflate the "profitably"
Then they intentionally overinflate in the billions the property value

All of these intentional acts of destruction are to lead to a landlord claim of "hardship" where the landlord claims it is impossible to make this property profitable without tearing down the buildings and putting in luxury high rises. A claim of hardship by billionaires fortress and Tishman who could afford but chose to not pay the monthly mortgage.

Laughable claim of hardship by billionaires while they put enormous strain and hardship on the middle class working class people who live here.

The city did right and called out RE Stahl on their scheme. Why is the city failing on Stuyvesant Town Peter Cooper Village Middle Class Working Class People?

    http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2013/10/30/landmarks_commission_slams_landlords_hardship_application.php

Seriously, CWC and Brookfield are creating the illusion for a hardship claim that is as corrupt as it gets.

Restoration to the original form, a conversion to a PennSouth format, and Tishman bearing the burden of the over inflated price and mortgage default along with CWFortress for their part in the overinflated misleading price tag.

Hardship claim by billionaires while they impose hardship on the people and families here, nice going NYC pols - way to fail as big as any administration has ever in the history of NYC.

  5. RE Fortress, Brookfield the wannabe in the club CWCTA are intentionally driving the property into the ground creating the appearance of a hardship situation where they will claim it is impossible to turn a profit without tearing down and developing the property. They are aligned in this goal and this is why the pipes are going unaddressed and every fight the tenants need is going unaddressed, without a fight let alone a mention from the CWCTA. CWCTA, fortress, and Brookfield are killing off the property and community to make a hardship claim. A situation they are creating by intentionally destroying us.
That is their plan. Create their own "hardship" while in actuality the only hardship is on the middle class working people here and the land.

  6. The burden of the debt does NOT belong on the working class people who live here or the property itself.

The burden of the debt belongs on Tishman and CWFortress (and all who have been complicit in their scheme).

We need to DEMAND the burden of the foreclosure debt and the servicer mismanagement be removed from the backs of the working class here and put onto those who created the burden, who can easily afford to pay their debts but are putting it on our backs.

We need to demand the city take the burden of the debt off of our backs and protect the few remaining homes here.

That is what should have been said at the Saturday meeting if the TA were not complicit and corrupt.

That is why I too left the meeting early, after not being able to stomach the load of crap they threw at us.

There is a lot we can do.

We can fight for our individual homes against the overcharges we each are individually facing from gouging on renovation work to misapplied / miscalculated mci charges. The sheer number of complaints will be hard to ignore.

We can demand the burden of the debt on this rental property not be placed on the working class here by bogus mci charges and price gouging renovation charges with national attention on the scheme and demand the burden of the debt be placed on those hoarding the rental properties, the Tishmans, Blackstones, Fortress Hedge Funds, that they bear the responsibility of their actions rather than walking away unscathed leaving their debt on the people.

ENOUGH. NO MORE. No more bailouts by the hard working class people for the billionaire RE and Bankers risky RE investments.

  7. We need to see the Brookfield plan for Stuyvesant Town Peter Cooper Village under their Cuomo / Garodnick Big U before we buy into the Brookfield TA conversion plan and purchase our apartments. We need all the information being hidden, especially if it has Cuomo / Garodnick fingerprints on it. Not just what the Big U website says, but the actual plans. I have a sneaky suspicion the neighborhood and our homes in their actual plan renderings are unrecognizable from its current state.

  8. Looks like the same photoshopped photograph for each unit. Very cold and sterile-looking, and not a carpet to be seen.

Just like the photoshopped photos in the window of the Leasing Office, nothing is real. The Leasing Office shows the Oval with trees that have long been cut down. We know this management are a bunch of unscrupulous liars. I wouldn't put it past them to use photos of the inside of the Palace of Versailles and say it was a Sty unit.

  10. 8:15 am!!!

    What are you talking about?

We have been fighting the increases, the m ci charges! have you?

FILE WITH THE DHCR and see what happens as I guess from your post you HAVE NOT.

IF YOU HAD YOU WOULD KNOW THEY DO NOT REPLY, DO NOT INSPECT, DO NOT FOLLOW UP AND WILL NOT SUPPORT AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE INCREASES.

Again I ASK, HAS ANYONE HERE EVEN ATEMPTED TO FILL OUT PAPERWORK OVERCHARGES WITH DHCR OR AREYOU AFRAID???

we HAVE AND IT'S BEEN MONTHS. NOTHING COMES OF IT. WE CALL, WE GO DOWNTOWN, they do NOT HELP US.

  11. Could someone please explain to me: if Garodnick, Brookfield and the TA are in cahoots to raise the value of this place by way of MCIs, then why does the the TA fight these MCIs? Why don't they just tell us to just suck it up?

  12. WHO CAN ONE CALL OR WRITE TO ABOUT NEIGHBORS JUMPING, BANGING AND PLAYING BASKETBALL ABOVE US? DOES ANYONE HAVE THE PROPERTY MANAGER FOR PCV ST EMAIL OR PHONE?

  13. I live in 622 East 20th st.
Photos look more like space in a Peter Cooper apt.
My old childhood bldg. on upper east side always looks in listings like the way I remembered it and wish could afford.
Last month I saw another tree murdered around the study lounge.
Today saw the artificial tree, ugh, and the sad prior tree.
Continuing poor taste and choices like our hallways newly painted but peeling & carpets stained already from day one.
    And so it goes (downhill)
    Interesting the price diffs.

  14. Wow, where once there was grass, trees, plants, flowers, birds, squirrels and wildlife; there is now industrial use with cement, chemicals, harsh electrical lights on 24 hours / 7 days of the week glaring through sunroofs on the lie of a cellar extension (yes the cellar extension has a roof so its not technically a cellar is it?), with an inescapable glaring commercial orange red "Exit" sign through a toxic plexiglass sunroof. That is quite a big loophole Dan made for RE. The land, wildlife, peace, quiet, breezes, environment destroyed and gone forever by the building they constructed. I feel bad for the residents in the First Avenue Loop and the M level ones who have sunlight blocked by the new building and extension sunroofs that block any view from the windows.
    Despicable.

  15. The only reason why they have to try this hard and are desperate to get people in here is because this place is way too expensive and NOT worth the money for what you are getting. Great business model.

  16. Off topic: when CW made its deed in lieu of foreclosure move, Garodnick hailed this as a good move that would allow an orderly sale. (in other words, potentially good for his deal with Brookfield). Why he would think this is beyond me. What the move seems to have done is solidify CW's position...which would favor Fortress. At the same time, given the suit brought by the mezzanine debt holders, things have not been simplified. And if it is held that the mezzanine debt holders will get a piece of the action, well poor Fannie and Freddie. They want to be made completely whole...experience no loss at all for their stupid investment. They want their money back plus interest due plus all expenses and fees they've incurred in the meantime. Fannie and Freddie have really turned into money-grubbing craven institutions. Certainly fine with me if they get the shaft. I see them as doing absolutely nothing to help tenants.

  17. Have said before...unless your councilman gets behind an effort, city agencies respond to almost nothing. Individual complaints mean nothing to bureaucrats. As observed by others, your complaint falls into a black hole. It's like you filed nothing. What does shake them up is a councilman's inquiry. Anything that might make them visible and affect their jobs.

Am in complete agreement with STR. I'm also fed up with Garodnick and the TA for not organizing around things like fighting MCIs where we might be able to get some traction, Instead they want to focus on higher profile, limelight issues...like the conversion. So much posturing and ego going on with DG and the TA...really impossible.

  18. Only in Photoshop do Stuy Town apartments look this good. Too bad they didn't Photoshop drunk Millenials shitting in the stairwells and smearing feces on the walls like they did in 449 last week.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I had feces in my building too! Management hung up on me when I called them to alert them. They thought I was kidding! I had to flag down one of the porters and direct him to it. The whole building stunk for a week. Don't these kids have bathrooms of their own?

  20. Yuk! This really is literally a shit show now!

  21. Str: Can photos be posted on Yelp? Can we start a blog of complaints against the Landlord with photos of the human feces we see often in buildings, on property? The trash build up/ the noisy disruptive filthy FRAT parties we are subjected to? Our power is in media.

GET the word out with actual photos and audio.

Yes, absolutely. And there are a few choice ones up there already. Great way to make a point!

  24. Get ready with the cameras, folks! I wonder if CW will try to stop tenants from photographing the atrocities, same as TS tried?

Look at the official PCVST facebook page. It's like there is a big party going on in a parallel universe!

  25. I just read the YELP review and how utterly embarrassing for our current landlord.

Shameful does not even describe the Yelp review.
