Robbie Speyer on Making Cities More Affordable

Yeah, he's a genius at that. Made ST/PCV more affordable when he was in charge here, right?

His solution appears to be to get rid of many landmarked buildings!  New York, you've been warned!

28 comments:

  1. Instead of getting rid of all the landmarked buildings, I think New York City would be better off getting rid of him and his kind. He's an opportunistic, parasitical predator. If he went away today nobody would miss him. He contributes nothing and takes everything. One ugly little man with too much money, no class, no real intelligence or intellect, having so much power is just not right. If he couldn't buy all of those corrupt politicians who are as morally bankrupt as he is, he would have now power and would just be an ugly little rich guy whose father made all the money that he misuses. Is this what New York City is all about? Don't real people matter? SMFH.

  3. Has anyone pointed out that Mr. Speyer has been instrumental in creating unaffordable housing ? My head nearly exploded when I watched this clip, and I shut it off after 1 minute. What nerve.

  4. Landmarks make a skyline unique, a neighborhood renowned, they are reflections of an interesting culture. Without them NYC is vapid.

  5. There is no logic there.

Speyer only wants to make RE more profitable. That is the sole goal of RE, to make itself more profitable.

    Not livable.

Not in the best interest of NYC.

Those who truly love NYC, or any city, cherishes and protects its landmarks.

What an obvious blunder. No doubt a word spin to follow soon to clean up Robbie's too honest words with probably a claim of "misspeak" and a bunch of articles on how REBNY loves NYC, loves "creating" landmarks, and after the year 2014 of overused term "Affordable Housing" and its plan that creates a tale of two cities with very wealthy and very poor buildings with no middle class with boat loads of tax breaks for RE, no doubting in 2015 the politicians and REBNY will start using the term "middle class" in their PR statements and speeches.

Vague terms as Affordable Housing hold as much water as Bob McDonnell's "family values"

  6. De Blasio is giving landmarks, open space, gardens, and parks to RE in the deeply flawed "Affordable Housing" plan that enriches the wealthy and RE business, and now makes NYC less livable too.

Screw "Quality of Life" when "Quantitity of Lives" brings in more money for RE.

Thank you REBNY darling and Gala Attendee Carl Weisbrod

Unbelievable these city administrators can't think of ways to increase lower and middle class housing (who is a majority of the population, that doesn't destroy more then it creates. The administration has got to stop making RE profits a priority and for the first time this century prioritize people!

Problem-solving is not a strength of this administration. They have no common sense, no wisdom, no human insight, no imagination. They are purely profit-driven business-schooled, data-management thinkers.

I am starting to agree it is time for new city leadership at next re-election. The Mayor is failing the city.

  9. An individual buys a house and the real estate value increases the owners reaps the benefit, if it drops the individual owner takes the loss.

A hedge fund, developer, RE, Wall Street buys a house(s) and real estate value increases the owners keep the benefits, if real estate value drops the owner gets to steal money from tenants to cover the loss.

    F that.

The real estate value of PCV ST is one of the biggest cons by modern day Tammany Hall schuysters.

The PCV ST residents should standup, fight back, roll the rent roll back, keep the remaining 5000 RS rentals and buyout the other 6000, turn co-op for the real price value, $2.5billion.

FU 2 the Flim Flam man.

  10. More affordable for who? Certainly not for the middle and lower classes.

  11. RE is Expert on Making Cities More Affordable?????

We have a city with a housing crisis and a Mayor who gave RE valuable waterfront land to build a golf course.

A Gold Course that will cost taxpayers $236 million dollars.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/bronx/trump-golf-ferry-point-cost-city-236-million-article-1.1752901

"Trump golf course at Ferry Point will cost city $236 million — 10 times original price tag

The course being built at the foot of the Whitestone Bridge in the Bronx, labeled a public course and financed by taxpayers, will be one of the most expensive golf courses ever constructed, according to new figures compiled for the Daily News by the Independent Budget Office."

    From Donald Trump:
I am very proud to announce that the Parks & Recreation Commissioner of New York City has chosen The Trump Organization for the development and operation of the new Ferry Point Golf Course. This is an opportunity to have one of our country's greatest golf courses right smack in the middle of New York City, something NYC residents have been looking forward to for a very long time.

Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point is an 18-hole, Jack Nicklaus Signature Design, links-style golf course. Sitting at the foot of the Whitestone Bridge in the Bronx, it is designed specifically to take advantage of spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline, East River, and Whitestone and Throgs Neck Bridges. In addition to the I8-hole course, the facility will also include a clubhouse, snack bar and driving range. It will be the only tournament-quality course in New York City, giving avid golfers a unique and more challenging alternative to our other selection of well-maintained public courses. The golf course is expected to open for play in 2015 so please take this opportunity to sign-up for announcements and we’ll see you on the course!

Public golf course costing taxpayers $236 million or middle class housing - what is more important to this city council?

  12. Landmarking isn't the reason for the lack of affordable rental housing in NYC. And while creating new affordable housing is a good idea that also just happens to put $$$ in Speyer's pockets, if Speyer was actually interested in the problem of a lack of affordable housing in NYC, he'd be talking about preserving existing affordable housing and expanding and strengthening rent regulations. Instead, he's complicit - with MetLife - in destroying the affordability of a huge chunk of formerly affordable NYC rental housing.

Back to building affordable housing. These bloodsuckers want to build? Fine. Build. They want tax breaks to do it? Fine. But in exchange we get a repeal of vacancy deregulation and a rewrite of the MCI law, the two single biggest destroyers of affordable housing in NYC there are.

  13. This spells out how badly NYC is failing its people, robbing them blind of home and money, and how corrupt the city and state administrations are with the RE.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/bronx/trump-golf-ferry-point-cost-city-236-million-article-1.1752901

Read it if you can stomach that NYC taxpayers will pay for one of the most expensive golf courses ever built, "Trump could end up paying less in annual fees to the city than some hot dog vendors do for their stands" and "no rent to the city for the first 5 years" on his clubhouse.

    Excerpt
"Ferry Point, in other words, will be one of the most expensive golf courses ever built, not too far behind the Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles ($260 million) or the new local favorite for Wall Street executives, the Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City ($250 million). It will even surpass the luxurious Bayonne Golf Club ($160 million) in New Jersey.

The others are exclusive private clubs and were built with private money. Ferry Point, on the other hand, is being financed by the taxpayers. It is still labeled a public course despite greens fees that are expected to cost more than $125."

This is a public golf course like the Lower East Side Lowline is a public park and not a party space for cheesy liquor sponsored events.

  14. In this sweet financial deal where taxpayers pay for the construction of Trump's luxury golf course on a landfill AND Trump is RENT FREE for 4 years, .....

Who should be responsible for the cleanup costs of excavating toxic landffill for the golf course?

    Answer: The developer

Who is paying for the cleanup of the excavation construction landfill debris under Trump's new Golf Course that is built to attract the US Open but disguised as a public park public golf course?

Answer: Taxpayers will fund the cleanup and assume all liabilities.

Who will pay for the cleanup at the dump sites where the landfill was brought?

    Answer: TBD

  16. Developers as Trump think Mayor de Blasio is doing a good job.

"Trump, never shy about sharing his opinion, offered conciliatory praise for the mayor, tempered with caution. The boisterous developer said de Blasio and his team, “have been very good, as far as I’m concerned” with regard to advancing Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point, the $236 million golf course in the Bronx that has been stalled for more than a dozen years.

On the other hand, Trump said he was concerned with talk of “tax the rich.” He said he couldn’t believe anyone would let that happen.

“Mike did a great job; Rudy did a great job. I really think that time will tell,” what kind of job de Blasio will do, he said. “I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.”

Taxpayers are paying Trump's business construction costs, taking on Trump's toxic contaminated debris liabilities, and Trump got a sweet Rent Free deal.

Not a rent freeze, but Rent Free.

People however pay for all the developer's costs and cant even get a rent freeze one year in all the Rudy, Mike and now Bill years.

    Not one rent freeze.

Trump demands Rent Free and gets it.

Why are we demanding so little and allowing the City to make us pay for so much?

    Robbie's debt.
    Trump's golf course.

Local Politicians want people to get on a bus to Albany and beg for a little break that the politicians will declare a big victory -- while they give sweet deals to developers and landlords who laugh at the bus people.

    Here is an idea.

Give people the same breaks as the businesses and or at least have the businesses pay their own way like the people have to do.

Really? You don't believe anyone will "let that happen"?

How's that? Got someone in your pocket to quash it if someone tried to tax the rich?

  19. So for his affordable housing plan de Blasio is taking away many little community gardens and on one very large piece of real estate built a luxury golf course in Manhattan. That is seriously messed up.

  22. 5:56 I actually appreciated the NYC de Blasio RE Trump golf course information. It puts things into perspective. PCVST is not being equally as demanding as developers which is pathetic considering that we are or were a large powerful voting block. Tenants need to do what the developers do, make bold demands on what we want and deserve. Then aim for the sky. Tenants need to expect more results from our politicians. Trump doesn't take no for an answer or wait to see what happens before taking action. He demands it upfront. I don't like the Trump guy but I admire his chutzpah.

  23. How many of the students and transients are eligible (or interested) in voting? The voting bloc is being deliberately diminished by the developers/CWC/NYU, et al. Add to that the fact that over the past few years it has become hard for voters, especially seniors, to even find their polling station in the community.

I always vote and I know one thing for sure: I will never, ever again vote for DeB or Garodnick. What quislings they turned out to be!

  26. REBNY's campaign against landmarks is plain wrong. Landmarks are good for people, for communities and really good for business, for REBNY, real estate values and tourism. Landmarks are the one thing that are good for everyone. Only the short sighted are blind to that.

  27. Did everyone see the Daily News editorial - Trump does not let ANYONE push him around. Trump refuses to let anyone push him around even if they are in the right or have a right or what they are doing "is legal" or whatever. Agree we have to stop being door mats! Now I don't think he should ever be President. But I agree with the person who said we could use a dose of his chutzpah. Trump would never let a mid level bureaucrat push him around or tell him no let alone a low level one. If they really cared about preserving the character, the open space, the community they would have filed many many law suits on the many many egregious acts against PCVST.

    Trump the nation's great hope

Medford, L.I.: I find it reprehensible that one of your hack reporters would label Donald Trump a bully for fighting back with a lawsuit against a Palm Beach airport official who Trump claims is maliciously rerouting flights over his national landmark property, Mar-a-Lago (“Donald Trump suing Florida county,” NYDailyNews.com, Jan. 13). Your paper may not like his style, but nobody pushes Trump around!

All he’s really doing is standing up for his rights by refusing to be abused by anyone, much less a midlevel bureaucrat. Imagine if we had a President in the White House who ran the government the way Trump protects and runs his business.

Does anyone really see foreign powers like China continuing to take advantage of us or would the long-depleted Uncle Sam gravy train finally be derailed at the station? As I see it, Trump is our last great hope to save the U.S.A. from its status quo of all-talk, no-action career politicians.
