Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.
Yes the rent laws are vital and need close watching and participation in Albany but we have to be careful because what these guys like to do is keep media and public attention on threats to our welfare while they pass laws that attack our civil rights for corporations who are heavily "lobbying" bribing Albany. We need more exposure on all their dealings because Cuomo will slime a few through then some low level local pol will say our homes can be dormified because of a law passed for Langone or Abott or etc.
By the way what percentage of crap was bought from Langone's Home Depot on the renovations here and has anyone checked into those invoices? What a sham of money funneling in and out to and from the same people paying themselves.
Grace Raugh, Tony Avella, and Preet Bharara deserve a standing ovation!!!!!
The good guys are catching up now that the heads are getting decapitated. Shelly Silver was Berlin Rosen's biggest client and we all know his dealings hurt the people while his pr gave an illusion he was helping the people. Avella, Bharara, the good guys are making leeway into ending this unethical, corruption.
"State Senator Tony Avella (D-Queens) is considering drafting a proposed state law "that would require disclosure for all firms that have substantial contact with elected officials and outside clients," according to a report by the broadcast journalist Grace Rauh of NY1 News.
State Senator Avella's proposal comes on the heals of of an investigative report by Ms. Rauh in which it was revealed that Jonathan Rosen and his firm, BerlinRosen, exert tremendous influence in City Hall by skirting disclosure requirements applicable to registered lobbyists."
"As we work to repair public trust in our elected officials," State Senator Avella told NY1, adding, "We must no longer tolerate lobbyists in consultants' clothing."
Let's not forget John Banks, the new head of REBNY who replaced Spinola was a member of De Blasio's transition team. Progressive my a**. RE greed is ruining NYC.
This whole RE mess in NYC...Rent regulation protests taking place for basic human rights is pitiful. Pathetic failure of leadership. No shame. No dignity. They should be embarrassed at their epic failures. Every neighborhood, every community. This is screwed up. We need a whole new city administration in city hall. When does their musical chairs game start again where they all trade offices with each other and how can we clear them out?
New York State will not only survive, we will be much better off if only Preet would knock out the third leg of the three men in a room. Any chaos caused will lead to a better place. Don't hesitate.
I had higher hopes for DeBlasio. What a disappointment. Just another REBNY tool. This blog post should be shared with the country next time he goes on one of his "I'M a progressive" tours while he has his REBNY pals write the rent laws.
de Blasio's REBNY approved 421a plan in exchange for de blasio resume cred costs the taxpayers too much. It is a shit plan with 421a granted ten more years costing our kids the benefits of programs from tens of billions of taxpayer dollars. Developers don't need billions of dollars in tax incentives and NYC needs the tax revenue. We would have gotten the same plan from Lhota.
This is why, last time the rent regulations were up for renewal, the Senate republicans wanted to extend them, as is, for something like another 20 years.
Pataki/Bruno's deregulation clause, a huge gift to their real estate benefactors, was a hole drilled in the hull of the boat, and they know it's just a matter of time until the ship sinks.
So the RSA is running TV spots, calling regulation a "failed policy" and calling for them to sunset now (since '97, with decontrol, we've really seen rents drop, right? So why not go all the way?). And our so-called tenant-friendly governor will pretend to play the middle ground by extending them as is, while he's really delivering exactly what his Big Real Estate donors want.

Pols have the nerve to say they are not breaking any laws when they pass laws that make unethical behavior legal because of the laws they wrote.

ReplyDeleteEpic failure.
ReplyDeleteThis is the problem with us in New York (10:18), We have high hopes for the democrats here repeatedly and they're all tools. Get real.

Pataki and Cuomo planned this years ago. This result makes them happy.
