Leaf-blowers out in Full Force on Thanksgiving Weekend

Dear Residents,

We hope you are having a pleasant and peaceful Thanksgiving Weekend with your friends and/or family.

Happy Thanksgiving from CWCapital and CompassRock!

  1. Funny, saw the signs yesterday at Madison park about how important it is not to blow leaves and how necessary they are for soil and future trees. Guess the asshole LL don't give a darn about that either. Great way to put the hundreds of contracted workers to annoy the shit out of us.

  2. Fucking clueless A-Holes. Will Blackstone be CWC/CR 2.0? Like CWC/CR was TS 2.0. My bet is the same shit. But I did the on line survey and an extended email to them as well where I named names. We will see.

  3. It basically sounded like someone was revving three motorcycles at once for a full hour directly below my window. Happy Thanksgiving weekend indeed.

  4. Just got my rent bill. A $15 increase. Anyone know what this might be for? Will call accounting on Monday. Received no prior notifications.

  5. Str, maybe you need a FB page. This is all lunacy going on here and 40% or more of us are fed up, finished, done. The blog is great, but FB can get more info out there and to prospect tenants, groups and legal action.

If we're going to form a new TA, we should start with our own FB page.

  6. The interesting idea of getting a facebook page sounds good if done safely. I think it should be in addition to the blog with links to the blog posts whenever one chooses to get a message from this blog into a broader arena. Frankly that is how the TA should have been working all along, partnering with this blog and giving a loud, broad audience voice to all tenants, if the TA were operating on the side of the tenants and not on behalf of RE interests. A facebook page IN ADDITION to the STR blog working in a partnering way.

Personally I don't think a facebook page should replace this extremely valuable blog. Eric Schneiderman or Andrew Cuomo could easily call Mark Zuckerberg (for Garodnick, or Stringer or Paul Weiss Rifkind) and get whatever information they wanted on any commentator who says something they do not want the public to know, especially about the REBNY business dealings in PCVST and they will use the full force abuse of their office to stop the constituents voice that is in disagreement with the big business interests who are financing the political offices. Just like REBNY or Dimon or Blackstone picks up the phone and tells the politician what to do as the politicians personally takes the call from them and just like Cuomo ended the MOreland Commission chaired by Schneiderman, when the subpoenas were reaching REBNY.

Of course this is just my opinion, and it is entirely STR's decision. But please know as a reader I value that people can comment, information share, and help other tenants without corrupt politicians calling up their donors and screwing with our lives anymore than they already have.

  7. CWCapital/Campus Crock eliminates leaf litter (a natural biological material good for soil replenishment and wildlife) using fossil fuels (contributes to global warming) creates noise pollution (stress) and air pollution (gasoline fumes). And possibly worst of all, disburses airborne particulate matter everywhere including pet waste, soot, debris, ... Also harmful to workers hearing. A total catastrophe to what end?

  8. Good for Associated small business owners! Those four men are brave! Bravo!

The problem for too long is the Real Estate Industry and the deeply-ethically challenged-client-conflicted Paul Weiss has been getting 100% of whatever they want, 100% of the time and the People are too used to compromising, being told there is nothing they can do about it, and taking the loss 100% of the time.

Or as Dan Garodnick likes to say "Well it is legal" because Dan Garodnick and his REBNY owned pals are making the laws.

  9. GOOD POINT!!!!!!!!!!

If the city council and de Blasio had any common sense they would ban these leaf blowers and limit instead of reward landlords for multiple air conditioners in small space instead of ceiling fans.

They've no wisdom and no common sense.

  10. Our own Facebook page would allow us to post whatever we want, uncensored by the current TA and the world can then SEE what goes on here. In addition, yes, to STR who is an amazing resource. Do we all tell our friends and neighbors about this blog? How do we get the word out if not?

  11. Many of us are not, and have no desire to be, on Facebook. You want to give up your privacy and put yourself out there for anyone and everyone to see, go right ahead. Not me.

  12. There are several Stuy Town Facebooks. While Facebook can be convenient for quick posts and comments, the information gets lost fairly quickly, which make a blog more of an archive. I also don't have the time to devote to this blog AND a STR Facebook, though I appreciate the suggestion.

  13. 8:05 am Monday after Thanksgiving:. They're Baack! We had one day off (yesterday) from leaf blower brigade. Back to the business of spewing gas fumes, airborne filth, noise. But at least there will be no leaves blighting the landscaping. /eyes rolling/

  14. I think they have to get the leaves off the walkways and steps because when it rains they are slippery and hazardous, especially to older people and people who have to use canes and walkers. It would be nice if they used brooms, but that's not going to happen.

  15. Actually age is not a factor when it comes to slipping on wet leaves, we all do it and it is dangerous, yes. But they are blowing the leaves off of the grass, not off of the sidewalks. The leaves are an important part of nourishing the soil and PCVST soil needs as much nourishing as it can get.
