  1. Hey, I thought that outdoor alcohol consumption was against the rules!

I actually witnessed a PS "special patrolman" writing open container summonses to some young folks on the PCV bocce courts once.

Pro tip, kiddos - do not give them your ID! They can't arrest you, they'd have call in real NYPD officers from the 13th, and that's not gonna happen for such a minor offense.

  2. Didn't Billy DeBlasio and our CC just get rid of open container laws (and public urination)? Get ready for oval keg gets with tree pissing contests!!

  3. Not up on your CPL Atomic Man, The Special Patrolman can Arrest you same as an NYPD Police Officer and in fact is "required " under the terms of the NYPD patrol guide that governs procedure to detain and transport the individual to the station house to ascertain identity.
Don't go giving advice that will make an unpleasant situation worse for some kid who thinks he/she knows it all.

  4. Atomic Man, why encourage them? Let PS do their job. Please. I am sick of drunk, stinking students/whomever reeling and vomiting their way through the property. Please do NOT try to deter PS from doing what they SHOULD do! Either you are part of the cure or part of the problem.

  5. Thank the City Council for the Tree Park Oval turned into a drunk, cleared piss pool.

  6. You don't have to be very smart to realize management wants tenants like this, those under age 25, paid rent from mom.dad. The management has dozens of families, responsible tenants fleeing out of here due to the increased rent, yet they do not offer concessions, lower rent, zero increase. And even more obvious is that they actually LOSE money in the empty apartment, renovation of it, paint, cleaning, and in actuality (know this to be fact) rent that apartment at an even lower rate! They are hell bent on just moving out tenant, moving in--- at whatever cost. This increases the legal rent and weakens the RS of each apartment - the loophole (o, so many) is the rate that the housing agency of NYC allows the increase and the numbers are staggering.

  7. 10:19, OK, technically as a limited peace officer, they could bring you to the precinct, but practically speaking, do you really think that would happen? I've been stopped myself, by real NYPD, for minor infractions, and insisted that I did not have ID when asked to produce it, and was always let off with a warning. Unless you're really being an asshole and just begging for it, they're not going to go through the trouble of hauling you back to the precinct house over a minor QOL offense.

And no, I'm not endorsing raucous carousing on the property. Just pointing out that you can often find people having a quiet drink on the Oval lawn, which is actually forbidden by the rules. The people I witnessed getting written up were definitely not being loud or rowdy, and it's extremely unlikely that they would have been detained if they didn't hand over ID.

  8. June 26, 2016 at 9:09 AM Thanks to Mayor de Blasio and Deputy Mayor Glen

June 26, 2016 at 10:15 AM Blackstone and Ivanhoe Cambridge do not want the negative publicity so the Public Safety officers look the other way and probably will never bring in anyone for minor offenses; the NYPD precinct report crimes as being in Gramercy Park or don't take reports on crimes in StuyTown to protect their masters Blackstone and Ivanhoe Campbidge and not protect citizens. The NYPD police makw sure the landlord gets no negative publicity even if it puts our safety at risk. Futile effort these days as it is only a matter of time when the drunk photos in StuyTown get their own peeing contest frat house website.

  9. TA Board, elected to defend us against Wall Street/REBNY predator Blackstone, has the gall to double annual dues charged to PCVST tenants they falsely claim to represent?

Is the increase really necessary since our NYC Councilman Dan Garodnick, also elected to defend us against Wall Street/REBNY predator Blackstone, is laundering $12,000-$15,000 dirty, filthy REBNY money into the TA board's slush fund?

The damage is done. It's impossible for the disgraced PCVST TA board to inflict twice the amount of damage already inflicted.

  10. Open the accounting books and let everyone see how the "not-for-profit" PCVST Tenant Association and all of its entities and separate multiple corporation names spend and move money in and out since it partnered with Brookfield, hired Mayor De Blasio's "Agent of the City" Berlin Rosen and City Council Dan Garodnick's REBNY law firm Paul Weiss or are the city and the state departments that oversee the not-for-profit sector covering something up?

  12. Hot the Oval went from Middle Class Open Space Tree Park Oasis to drunken-concert event-space "junk-luxury housing"

Andrew Cuomo and Fannie and Freddie
    Wayne Barrett August 5, 2008

Andrew Cuomo, the youngest Housing and Urban Development secretary in history, made a series of decisions between 1997 and 2001 that gave birth to the country's current crisis. He took actions that—in combination with many other factors—helped plunge Fannie and Freddie into the subprime markets without putting in place the means to monitor their increasingly risky investments.

He turned the Federal Housing Administration mortgage program into a sweetheart lender with sky-high loan ceilings and no money down, and he legalized what a federal judge has branded "kickbacks" to brokers that have fueled the sale of overpriced and unsupportable loans.

Three to four million families are now facing foreclosure, and Cuomo is one of the reasons why.

What he did is important—not just because of what it tells us about how we got in this hole, but because of what it says about New York's attorney general, who has been trying for months to don a white hat in the subprime scandal, pursuing cases against banks, appraisers, brokers, rating agencies, and multitrillion-dollar, quasi-public Fannie and Freddie.

There are as many starting points for the mortgage meltdown as there are fears about how far it has yet to go, but one decisive point of departure is the final years of the Clinton administration, when a kid from Queens without any real banking or real-estate experience was the only man in Washington with the power to regulate the giants of home finance, the Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA) and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (FHLMC), better known as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

...the near-collapse of these dual pillars in recent weeks is rooted in the HUD junkyard, where every Cuomo decision discussed here was later ratified by his Bush successors.

...Perhaps the only domestic issue George Bush and Bill Clinton were in complete agreement about was maximizing home ownership, each trying to lay claim to a record percentage of homeowners, and both describing their efforts as a boon to blacks and Hispanics.

This problem grows because Mayor De Blasio and Deputy Mayor Glen, Shorris are only about "making numbers" for appearances sake too. Number of affordable units 200,000 but thier 5000 StuyTown units are a crass, bad, insult to the intention of affordable housing just like his East New York numbers.

These guys do not care about the citizen in the home, they care only about how they appear on paper so they can get promoted to higher positions. They are all the same, De Blasio, Cuomo, Schneiderman, Garodnick, Stringer, Maloney, Wall Sgtreet Goldman Sachs Glen and NYU Shorris.

  13. Wow... if the TA is really raising their membership fees, that is a real slap in the face considering that most of the paying members are seniors with extremely limited incomes. They will probably figure out a way to pay since they are loyal to the TA (less groceries for a while??), but it is sickening. I won't let my mother renew her membership if they double.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm not sending the TA any money.

They're a joke as far as I'm concerned.

  15. If you think that the new management and BS and I won't post NAMES of employees are going to help you with rising rents, plumbing problems, student problems, you are sorely mistaken. They are here for the move in, move out to make MONEY, nothing but weaken the RS laws and making money folks.

Your proof on this NYPD slander? BTW, the last sexual assault crime which took place on 18th street between First and Second Avenues (closer to First Ave), was initially reported in the media as Stuyvesant Town, not Gramercy. which would have been the proper hood location. So much for that conspiracy theory.

If you ever gone to a 13th Precinct community meeting and confronted them on this with your proof? If you have proof on this, ever you ever gone to any legitimate news outlet to report this? Would be one hell of a story. No to both I bet. Again you have no proof.

  17. Anyone who pays "Dues" to the PCVST TA is a complete idiot. Period. Nothing else can be said.

  18. Everyone knows during the Tishman sale years that crimes in Stuyvesant Town are reported as Gramercy. Don't know how it was before Tishman but the news of late with the NY PD scandal surely lends to a perceived or real lack of integrity too. No need to debate this. StuyTown residents have every reason to question and every right to demand a loyal level of protection from the NY PD. It is not slander and frankly if a commentator feels that they are getting ignored by their police precinct then the police precinct should up its game. Perceived or real, the burden is on the NY PD to keep StuyTown residents safe and to make residents feel safe.

  19. We have more alcoholic drinking on the property and now it is all over the internet on untappd to invite their friends to drink in the Oval, we have more pot smoked and other drugs on the property, more students who are at an age of experimenting, staying up all night and partying lifestyle. A commentor said drugs are dealt next to her in Peter Cooper Village. There is pot smell in our building every day now. Does anyone really think the NYPD is doing right by residents or looking the other way for the landlord?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well, since this post is about people bragging on the internet of illegal alcoholic beverage consumption in Stuyvesant Town earning badges for the more you drink, it is fair to say there is something going on leading the NYPD to ignore the situation just like the situation was ignored on the Airbnb market rate apartment listings. It seems there is a lack of enforcement when it comes to the market rate lessees.

  21. Yesterday's News The Sunday New York Times on Housing, Rentals, and Blackstone

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/27/business/dealbook/private-equity-housing-missteps.html

From the Sunday New York Times
The Establishment Politicians are Repeating the Same Things That Caused Millions of Americans to Lose Their Homes and Again at the Center of It is the New Landlord of Stuyvesant Town

How Could the Self-proclaimed Progressive Mayor Do This To Stuyvesant Town?! Next Mayor better live up to his campaign rhetoric spewed at Stuyvesant Town entrances during elections.

"In the rental market, The Times found, other big private equity firms largely bypassed the nation’s poorest neighborhoods as they scooped up and renovated foreclosed homes across the country. Those firms include Blackstone, a huge private equity firm and the nation’s largest private landlord of rental houses.

These decisions point to shortcomings of the government’s response to the housing crisis. Rather than enact sweeping changes to housing policy, the government largely handed the problems to a new set of companies."

Again, the poster should answer my questions. Has the poster gone to any of the 13th Precinct community meetings to confront them on this? Or contacted legitimate media with proof (obviously not the T&V)? DNAinfo NYC would be very interested. The NY Post would be very interested as well not withstanding their pro police stance on everything since they would just blame dB for it. Anony 1.27 PM has accused the NYPD's 13th Precinct of felony criminal charges. Time to provide proof. If one does not have any, it's slander.

  28. I love how City Council tries to act like they were in the dark on what their real estate developer pals are doing. Communities are losing affordable housing, medical beds, and parks because our City Council is in bed with real estate developers and a corrupt city "economic development corporation" that is robbing us all blind. The same council member names keep coming up in all of the dirtiest of real estate deals. This one is hiding behind her communications director who was verbally promised by a real estate developer and is back peddling with excuses of really trying hard to find legal recourse....sounds like another councilperson who likes to say his hands are tied because what the developers are doing is legal....

    1. If it is legal then the lawmakers are to blame
    2. If councilperson Chin's office is so easily duped then councilperson Chin is not qualified to keep the office and someone not so easily duped (or using "being duped" as an excuse) should take over the councilpersons office. Immediately.

The councilpersons offices city-wide are failing the people and doing very well by the real estate industry.

  33. "DeBlasio is a disaster! The sooner he's gone, the better."

Did you vote for Bloomturd for his three terms of horror? Did you vote for Joe Lhota versus dB?

Yes, he has many issues (not progressive enough IMO) but I guess this one missed your radar?

Last year's final RGB hearings guidelines:

"For leases beginning between October 1, 2015, through September 30, 2016, the rent increase for rent stabilized apartment and loft renewals is:

1-year lease: 0% for tenants paying the "legal regulated rent" for their apartment as established by the rent stabilization laws.
    2-year lease: 2%"

This year's final RGB hearings guidelines:

For leases beginning between October 1, 2016, through September 30, 2017, the rent increase for rent stabilized apartment and loft renewals will be:

1-year lease: 0% for tenants paying the "legal regulated rent" for their apartment as established by the rent stabilization laws.
    2-year lease: 2%

As always, this is the catch that must be fixed at the NYS RS law, NYS Senate, level:

"However, if a tenant is paying a "preferential rent," which an owner agrees to charge and is lower than the legal regulated rent that the owner could lawfully collect, the owner may be allowed to increase the rent up to the "legal regulated rent," even if the increase is greater than the rent increase guidelines that are in effect."

Please tell me that Bloomturd in the past or Joe Lhota (if he had won) would even considered this (0 %) as part of his agenda for his appointees to the RGB. If a more progressive candidate primaries dB, I’ll definitely consider that person. But the standard poster response at this blog is to vote Republican, the party that does not believe in ANY residential rent amount regulations, always leaves me rather bewildered.

    C. Quinn is being considered again by the Cuomo/Bloomturd crowd to support and run as an alternative to dB. The horror............the horror.

  34. Quinn is a disaster waiting to happen if she gets her hands on the City as evident by her taking the position with Cuomo --- and Cuomo who is trying to knock out De Blasio to put Quinn back in to complete the REBNY rule of NYC. Cuomo and anyone he endorses as Quinn and Garodnick have the same things in common - they are hugely supported, ruled, run by REBNY.
