It happens to you, perhaps too frequently these days. A young person is waiting near the entrance door who has "forgotten" the key card. So if you are very nice and trusting, you open the door with your key card and let the person in at the same time. Or a speeding bicycle is heading around the Oval? Or you witness dog crap either not picked up or sloppily picked up anywhere in the complex. Do you call PS? Or say "forget about it"?
The question is: Why do we care if Blackstone (and Ivanhoe) have tons of money to "do the right thing," but want residents to speak up about these infractions while at the same time turning a neglectful or wary eye toward these infractions? At least that's the way it seems to me.
What IS it to us, if our management thinks and acts as if everything is really alright and they do not have to spend extra money or manpower to stop these things?
By now, they (management) should be aware of what it happening. Perhaps they are okay with the way things are. Perhaps our voices are a pain in the ass to them? Why do we expend the energy and the time, when management gets PAID to do the same thing!?
If a dog day actually occurs on Oct 22, it will tell us a lot. It will tell us that the general counsel for the DHMH has had no effect whatsoever mgt dog policy here.
ReplyDeleteIf city agencies are actually unwilling to enforce their own rules and if there is no means for folks here to leverage against mgt policy, the logical conclusion is that this blog and complaints I see on facebook will ultimately have no effect at all.
I refuse to let anybody in if I don't know them and I avoid walking by the Oval because of the bikes and dog shit. I also refuse to recycle because it is a total waste of time.
ReplyDeleteThe day is going to come when a bicycle (mopeds in disguise) kills someone.
ReplyDeleteThen everyone will say we knew this was going to happen....
I do not let strangers in anymore unless they have a keycard. Whenever I see a violation, there never seems to be a public safety officer around. They seem to be invisible except when they gather in groups chatting in front of 2 Oval headquarters in the morning. I really don't believe that Blackstone cares about our complaints. They have Rick for that and he listens, kibbutzes and does nothing. A really sad situation.
ReplyDeleteI asked one of the PS guys to please crack down on the speeding bicycles and he laughed in my face.
ReplyDeleteManagement feels (and I know this) that anything between 14st and 23st, 1st Ave and Ave. C is theirs. Yeah, they will let in "emergency vehicles" in case there is an emergency, and the NYPD is always welcome, as a matter of policy, but otherwise, it is theirs. My prediction is that nothing will change, even with city rules, and that no enforcement will come of city rules. My hunch, and I hope I am wrong, but....
ReplyDeleteRick should know that the Stuy Town grounds are NOT meant for the passage of motorized ST vehicles (lazy bastards) and bicycles and the like. He should know this, and he does, but he doesn't care. Blackstone owns the place, so what's it to you?
ReplyDelete>>I asked one of the PS guys to please crack down on the speeding bicycles and he laughed in my face.<<
ReplyDeleteDoesn't surprise me. I know a PS guy who blatantly lied to my friend about these "Oval" bikes. Yes, I was there to hear it.
And you know what? Go back in time several years and you will read the same problems. Nothing has changed!
ReplyDeleteOctober 11, 2016 at 10:58 AM owns the career politicians too. Vote them all OUT
October 11, 2016 at 9:34 AM it means the corruption runs deep and runs low to high. The more reports filed that are ignored, the stronger the case we have against the corrupt incumbents. I say keep filing reports. So what if they ignore it now. They may pay for it later if we vote for new politicians who appoint new Commissioners, Deputies, Chiefs, and not the Tishman Speyer placed ones currently in political offices and housing authorities. Absolutely, unequivocally no incumbents and no one endorsed by an incumbent will get our votes.
ReplyDeleteOctober 11, 2016 at 10:39 AM Report the laughing Officer to IAB they all should be reported to IAB. Nothing changes because we know it is useless to report them when the law authorities are in bed with real estate but, and this is a big but, each report ignored is another crime committed. Report every bad act committed in PCV and ST.
ReplyDeleteIAB being?
ReplyDeleteInternal Affairs Bureau, I assume. Doubt that we have one!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I reported something that was clearly a violation and got "ungatz". (See Google for interpretation if you don't know what it means. "Ugatz" is also acceptable.)
ReplyDelete"BTW, I reported something that was clearly a violation and got "ungatz". (See Google for interpretation if you don't know what it means. "Ugatz" is also acceptable.)"
ReplyDeleteIs that Soprano language for "Up Yours?"
"The day is going to come when a bicycle (mopeds in disguise) kills someone."
ReplyDeleteIf that dreadful day ever comes, let's hope the victim is a member of upper management and not some poor senior who can't jump out of the way fast enough.
>> "BTW, I reported something that was clearly a violation and got "ungatz". (See Google for interpretation if you don't know what it means. "Ugatz" is also acceptable.)"
ReplyDeleteIs that Soprano language for "Up Yours?"<<
In this case, "nothing!"
11:15 AM, you bet your life I am not voting for any incumbents or anybody endorsed by an incumbent. I would vote for anybody BUT an incumbent, regardless of party affiliation.
ReplyDeletein peter cooper the students just wait outside the back door or front door. surely someone walks out every 2 to 3 minutes and voila, door open. Nah, Bs doesn't give a rat ass hoot. The kids are renting out their places with twin beds and daddy pays the rent. one female rents a converted (ahem) one bedroom to two or three a week or month and collects sometimes 3 or 4,000 dollars from them alone, easy.
ReplyDeleteVoting for or against any politician or would-be politician will not work.
ReplyDeletePickets, strikes, protests, shutting down businesses, streets, etc. Civil disobedience on a mass scale. It is the only method that will halt and then reverse what is occurring in this city and all over the planet.
Along with bicycles gone wild, what about the cars that tear a$$ through Peter Cooper Road? Usually they are TLC cars, but just thus morning I was driving through at the 10mph speed limit, and an older woman I know was tailing me and hon king for me to move over. She is a nasty woman, and when we both got to the same spot (she lives in my building), I told her I would call the cops next time she drives through the property like that.
ReplyDeleteApparently technically the StuyTown dorm security officers (as opposed to official campus university security officers) are a weird hybrid arm of the NYPD 13th precinct and not part of the university's security force but a unique policing force different from other campuses and official university reporting of misconduct and are indeed under IAB jurisdiction.
ReplyDeletethat day is coming and it will be a senior or a small child. speed bumps1!! i told LL already.
ReplyDeleteDon't see any significant changes since these new owners took over. Looks more and more like the S.O.S.!!
ReplyDeleteRight now the Ice Rink is getting started, so that Playground is out of service. Also out of service is the new Oval Fountain, though I see colored lighting on most of them. Thank you, Rick and Blackstone for beautifying this place. I wonder if Dan the Man and the TA will be at the opening ceremonies. Ah, peace--forget about it. Only when you are in your graves!
ReplyDeleteWhat new Fountain? What was wrong with the original fountain that was so beautiful they used in all the marketing materials?
ReplyDeleteBlackstone is living up to the reputation it has nationwide. Lousy vulture landlord who just collects the rent and treats tenants like shit. That is the Blackstone SOP.
ReplyDelete>>What new Fountain? What was wrong with the original fountain that was so beautiful they used in all the marketing materials?<<
ReplyDeleteYou don't understand. And I'm serious. Every new management does something to put its mark on something someone else did. Blackstone and Rick are no different. The "new" fountain will have colored LED lighting so we can watch it, entranced. This is the gift of Blackstone and Rick to us, the tenants. Forget about enjoying the fountain simply and speaking to a neighbor or reading or just chilling. You must be entranced now. Thank you, Blackstone and Rick.
Why the TA says nothing. Well, I can't say nothing. There is the Baruch music something or other coming up or the Halloween display near the PCV guardhouse. The fountain? Forget about it!
ReplyDelete>>with bicycles gone wild, what about the cars that tear a$$ through Peter Cooper Road?<<
ReplyDeleteHow about golf carts riding in ST against the traffic signs or on the walkways of ST? I know, it hurts your feet to get from here to there without these golf carts. Poor babies.
No kidding. We are helping Blackstone, Ivanhoe and Airbnb while they are destroying us. Airbnb is just as bogus. For 5 years they show hotels in Stuyvesant Town then all of the sudden Airbnb takes all the StuyTown ads off of its website after they are exposed on this blog. The hotels are not as bad as the loud dorms anyway.
ReplyDeleteOctober 11, 2016 at 5:10 PM Geez color LED lights are cheesy
ReplyDeleteHow about the years of construction in the Oval with all those losers in the golf carts driving the wrong way and on sidewalks along the loops instead of on the roads. Can you imagine those bad driver idiots in real cars on the roads. There were so many you could not walk outside without getting hit by two or three of those dumb dumbs every 100 feet.
ReplyDeleteI saw and old man swing his cane at an out of control golf cart. It was actually quite the scene.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to light up a doobie and stare at the new fountain.
ReplyDeleteWhat way do you think they can stop cyclists?
ReplyDeleteThey can't put speed bumps, or whatever, because of the elderly and strollers.
They can't grab or force stop these cyclists by grabbing them or something.
Sometimes they follow them and give them lease violations ( aka toilet paper )
All they can do is " Hey please get off, thank you " * as they get back on 5ft later *
What resolution do you guys think they can implement that wont cause injuries or allow the cyclist to sue?
On the TA Facebook from a member:
ReplyDelete"More needs to be done about the bicycles in the oval. In the span of 10 minutes, I saw a maintenance worker knock over a French bulldog puppy by snagging its leash and a woman exiting the oval on a white bike as we were entering, nearly took out my 15 month old son. I pointed out the no bicycle sign and she began to berate me for being on my phone (I was taking a picture of him walking). Why can't people follow the rules? It's for everyone's safety!"
um, duh. speed bumps dont go all across the road. scattered so those walking can walk. riders and cars cannot. BUT THEY WONT AND YOU ARE THEM AS YOU WANT TO SPEED THROUGH AND KILL ONE OF US.
ReplyDeleteI saw a maintenance worker knock over a French bulldog puppy by snagging its leash
ReplyDeleteSimple solution. Ban dogs from the Oval.
I mean, all they're going to do there is piss and shit anyway, and who needs that?
Color LED lights? This is sophisticated New York City residential zone where people live not tourist party-lit Miami beach commercial zoned where people go to paaaaaaaarty. That management decision is a bit tacky, low class don't you think?
ReplyDeleteIt's low class but enjoyed by some of our neighbors--I think. Of course, it is totally useless and a waste of money, but that's management for you.
ReplyDeleteWe are more than thrilled the BlackSTone is spending our rent money on colored lights for the water, for the winter, for the fountain. NOT.
ReplyDeleteThe Oval Park just turned into the Oval Amusement Park
ReplyDeletePity. It was most stunning, beautiful Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter seasons with the tall, majestic trees.
Next they will put in a swimming pool and waterslide in Peter Cooper Village Lawn.
They turned the most valuable character asset of Stuyvesant Town, the natural Park space, and turned it into a common event space like any other in the city and thereby making the Oval the least valuable character asset. They've no savvy business sensibilities in their short term business plans. That is the result of the City negotiations on the 20 year wait for building the glass and steel towers.
They should ban bicycles from the walkways throughout the property. Just simply ban them. If people get pissed off at not being able to get their pizzas delivered at breakneck speed, tough shit. As for the fat slobs who drive the golf carts, get rid of them too. We managed perfectly well before they started with the golf carts and I'm sure we can manage without them. Most of the "security" guys are fat slobs too and could use some exercise, but they are not really law enforcers anymore. They are only here to give the impression that we have a security force.
ReplyDeleteYou can say (write) that again!
ReplyDeleteYu managed perfectly well with 20,000 people. NOW IS 2016 and the property has almost 30,000 people. need more staff, more repair, more etc.
ReplyDeletePeople, they aren't going to change anything because of what you think or say here.
ReplyDeleteAnd look...did you get the TA email blast? Here's what will be covered at the upcoming meeting.
L train shutdown
MCIs
Telephone scams targeting our community
Rent-freeze month (SCRIE/DRIE)
Strengthening rent protections
And more
You see no mention of dogs, bikes and noises issues...all of which have been complained about frequently here or on facebook.
So what do you think this TA bullshit meeting will be? 90 minutes of pure bullshit from the politicians doing their usual political speak, Susan Steinberg giving herself and the TA a fifteen minute pat on the back. And maybe 15 minutes of open mic with some of the doofiest tenants getting up there first complaining they didn't have hot water last night.
You should go there and act up. Demand that the format change. There ought to be an hour or more of all open mic for nothing but tenant questions, and if there is time, then the pols can give their own speeches. Maybe then we would at least get some responsiveness.
When and where is this TA meeting ?
DeleteOctober 12, 2016 at 10:43 AM ditto
ReplyDeletebut while they do "just give an impression that we have a security force" to protect residents and doing no real protection of residents. they do a lot of off the record work for the corporate owners which does not include "protecting" residents
id just b happy if they lowered our rent. Even a small gesture would get a like from me on yelp. i will be leaving a yelp review first time ever on the price gouging
ReplyDeleteWHAT IS UP WITH THE PROPERTY AND ALL THE DOOR SLAMMING.
ReplyDeleteEVERY DAY, ANY TIME MORNING, NIGHT, EVEN THE PORTER. SLAM SLAM SLAM.
DOESN'T ANYONE HAVE ANY CONSIDERATION - YOU JUST SCARE THE HELL OUT OF MY NANA.
Color LED lights? This is sophisticated New York City residential zone where people live not tourist party-lit Miami beach commercial zoned where people go to paaaaaaaarty. That management decision is a bit tacky, low class don't you think? >>>>>
ReplyDeleteBut this would be the height of sophistication in Boca!
10:25 AM: You said it perfectly. The Oval was indeed magnificent before the morons cut down the trees and turned it into a muddy playground. It was the most beautiful aspect of Stuyvesant Town and was renowned far and wide for being the Oasis in the City. The braindead schnorrers who took over from MetLife destroyed the essence of the property just to turn a quick buck. I think it has probably cost them more than they have gained. Cretins!
ReplyDelete12:27 PM, the TA has to try to make itself look relevant and it is politically obligated to stroke Garodnick's [fill in the blank] because they are owned by that little man who is Mr. REBNY Man.
ReplyDeleteThey are not even slightly interested in the quality of life issues, e.g., the speeding bicycles, dog shit, loud parties, overcrowded apartments that have been ILLEGALLY chopped up. They are owned by Management and Garodnick and the rest of the stinky pols. I'm not sure what they get out of it, though I can understand that at a point in history they thought they might get to be homeowners and have equity in the dump, while at the same time driving out those who would not or could not buy. They, at that point, ceased to be a tenants' association and became a wannabe homeowners association and sold their souls to the devil and us down the river. Let them enjoy their preening and pandering, but don't pay them $50 a year to "represent" you!
People slam their doors and have zero consideration for others. These prison doors are soo heavy. I hate living here. It was never like this years ago, and it has nothing to do with times changing. This is just common courtesy, manners in which their parents never taught them. It just goes with everything else in this dump we are not proud to call home. I hope this place burns to the ground.
ReplyDeleteYou should know that another tree (relatively big) is gone at the Oval. Right near Oval Study. That should bring in a lot more sunlight!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I checked the "new" fountain. I guess at night they put on the lights to impress the TA and its members, but during the day the fountain seems less "intense" than it used to be. Dramatically so, at least to me when I was there. Total waste of time and money.
ReplyDeleteComing across dog leftovers and stains, I realize, once again, how this place can suck.
ReplyDeleteHow are we helping Blackstone? I am not. Are you? How many real RS tenants are left here since turnover at an all time high?
ReplyDeleteYeah! Just keep renting to these students. Didn't Rick say that this would cease?
ReplyDeleteIt has just increased, and the quality of life here has been deteriorating since.
MANAGEMENT IS AWARE OF THIS AND SIMPLY DO NOT CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!
most , if not all of our over 40 neighbors slam the doors so it is not just the kids or kids at all.
ReplyDeleteLuxury Living, right?
ReplyDeletenot even the repair men close doors politely here. Slam, Slam.Slam.
ReplyDeleteDid you see they put in dog "hitching posts" outside the Oval Cafe
ReplyDelete>>Did you see they put in dog "hitching posts" outside the Oval Cafe<<
ReplyDeleteIt's been there for a while, I think. We love our dogs!
As far as enforcement, Rick and Blackstone are BS. Prove otherwise! Yeah, you can point to this or that, but residents known the truth
ReplyDeleteFor legal reasons the landlords have to rent to students. Not real sure how any entity wold get around that so in a nutshell, we are fucked.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible.

Bicycle riders are out of control. They are the new Menace! It used to be muggers, but now it is the cyclists. I got off the bus at 14th Street and Avenue A and almost got mowed down by some silly bitch on a Citibike; then crossing the service road I almost got mowed down by an asshole Chinese delivery guy on a bike going the wrong way. I think I prefer the muggers of yesteryear! These bike riders are lucky I don't drive in the City because if I did, I would mow them into the pavement without a second thought if they got in my way.
ReplyDeleteWe should at least be safe on the sidewalk and when walking through the property, but BS doesn't give a shit and PS has no balls.
>>For legal reasons the landlords have to rent to students. Not real sure how any entity wold get around that so in a nutshell, we are fucked.<<
ReplyDeleteWell, if the complex insisted that those writing and paying the checks are residents...?
Well, if the complex insisted that those writing and paying the checks are residents...? >>>>
ReplyDeleteWell, wouldn't that be a good idea! Management has no idea who is living here and what they get up to! Worse still, they don't even want to know just so long as the checks keep rolling in.
"Coming across dog leftovers and stains, I realize, once again, how this place can suck."
ReplyDeleteI usually work nights, but i had to be in at 8 am today. I left my apt at 6:45 am and walking along the front of the management office (276 1st ave area) I saw two long strips of piss and a pile of shit. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing STR. The dog owners really sewered this place up.
complaining about the dogs will not help. There are far too many and sure to be far more. Nothing we can do so get over it.
ReplyDeleteWell, you can complain. Get it off your chest. Whether anything will change is another story.
ReplyDeleteOf course we cannnnn complain but what is the point. How would they even contain it now, what happens to the 5000 dogs here. Let's work on things we can change.
ReplyDeleteThe "new" Oval Fountain. Sorry, I'm not impressed having seen the night view, which had more natural colors before. I'd much rather have PS deal with the roving bicycles and random dog droppings and the dog urine stains around the Oval. Perhaps you have to be impressed with gaudiness if you are paying a shitload of money to live here and have to search for your happy face. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThe new fountain lights are of value to Mgmt because they lure residents to take photos for social media posts with hashtag StuyTown -- free marketing.
DeleteNot renting, legally, to students is easy. Other, more selective properties do it, so why can't we? Answer: Because we don't want to.
ReplyDeleteSomeone explain to me the Foreign Consulate Embassy that Property Management ran, that had 20 visits, then the hotel suite shut down after tenants complained. Who are the 20 visitors? Different people or the same diplomat each time? Which foreign Embassy holds that lease?
ReplyDeleteDon't you love the advertisement for StuyTown having a private airplane strip landing at 23rd street! It explains the Federal government push to have Long Island's money-losing airport be licensed for international flights. This is for the wealthy to avoid traveling at major international JFK so they do not have to bump into let alone see the other 99% of the population. Private jets is a big push by REBNY.
Running a Consulate Hotel means the US government would know of this so that means the deal the City Government (city council and city hall) made was intended to be one way but something altered the course and the Embassy says it shut down. Or at least the Foursquare tracking was turned off. Who knows what else is being run in Stuyvesant Town Peter Cooper Village by Property Management and the City Council and City Hall. The incumbents want us out. We want the incumbents out, all of them!

I have lived hear for more than 37 years, and I hear most people slam their doors now on my floor more than in the past. Society is completely out of control and no one respects anyone anymore. Whether its students or adults! This world has gone down the toilet, Just look at this election?
ReplyDeletePeople, people. Management does not care about you. Anything and everything you need to done in your apartment, CALL THEM, and have it done. Let's flood them with legitimate phone calls. It is YOUR right.
ReplyDeleteTHE ONLY TWO THINGS THAT WILL CHANGE IN THIS PLACE IS THAT YOUR RENT WILL GO UP AND THIS PLACE WILL CONTINUE TO DETERIORATE. NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS.
ReplyDelete>>Someone explain to me the Foreign Consulate Embassy that Property Management ran<<
ReplyDeleteI need to check this out, as it's a mystery to me.
Another someone without a key card, waiting for someone with a key card to let them in. It's becoming a standard now!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what "MyTown" was but indeed the links say that it was!
ReplyDeleteI wish that Management would post the "Good Neighbor" notices in the elevators again, but this time they should highlight and emphasize the bit about not slamming doors. My downstairs neighbors come home around 2 AM and slam the interior doors so hard that I am almost shaken out of bed. I've thought about putting a note under their door, but you never know how that will be received and it could make the situation worse.
ReplyDelete"I have no idea what "MyTown" was but indeed the links say that it was!"
ReplyDeleteProbably the TA would know about this, but I'm sure they wouldn't tell us!
Pardon the irrelevance but has anyone seen the price of the blackstone stock? ee gads.
ReplyDeleteIt's always been that way regarding the repair men.
ReplyDeleteHere is one of the reasons why Blackstone is combining two rent stabilized apartments into one new apartment suite:
ReplyDelete"When two Rent Stabilized apartments are combined into one big apartment you can charge a free market first rent."
http://law.justia.com/cases/new-york/other-courts/2016/2016-ny-slip-op-51070-u.html
They are removing rent stabilized apartments, deregulating them, because de Blasio and DHCR rules allow them to when they create the 4 and 5 bedroom dorms and hotel suites. Blame falls on the politicians and not on the developers who are just doing what the politicians have paved the way for them to do.
But no more than 3 unrelated tenants to an apartment.
ReplyDeleteTheir stock is in the toilet.
ReplyDeleteFrom all the news on the emails released we see what kind of person the Mayor is. Phony. Says one thing and does the opposite. Only does what will make him look good. Thinks of himself. Letting developers rake us over the coals advances his career then he turns a blind eye and speaks hollow words. Landlords are profiting. Residents are losing house, home and community. He speaks against inequality but his actions are all for it.
ReplyDeleteyou know how hard is to prove someone is living here or not.. perhaps it's a cousin, a friend, a guest. good luck , peace out, i've sublet and moving.
ReplyDeleteDeB is a one-term Mayor for sure. I would have an honest Repub who we know will screw us than a lying "Progressive"
ReplyDeletewho will wait til he's elected to show his true colors.
A bribe to get loyalty?
ReplyDeletehttp://nypost.com/2016/10/14/de-blasio-agencies-40-pay-hikes-a-mistake-were-going-to-fix/
Actually, I think those people who got the pay hikes were/are very underpaid and should get a raise. Trouble is, DeB just does what he wants without going through the right procedures. His arrogance and high-handedness is just about pathological. The City Council certainly did not deserve the whopping raise they awarded themselves and THAT is disgusting. I'd rather rank and file City workers got pay raises than those lazy, corrupt losers on the City Council.
ReplyDeleteNo need to run the sublet request by the management?????????????????
ReplyDeleteOh boy
ReplyDeleteAfter doing a number on NYC as three term Mayor he is going for Secretary of State in Clinton administration

Are you helping Blackstone? We are not.
ReplyDeleteThere's an argument about--what else--dogs in this community and their "nuisance." Regardless of the correct answer, management does not want to give up its ownership of this property one inch, so that means that we are to live with the city rules being ignored when management decides they should be ignored. It's as basic as should Stuy Town follow the city's human pathway rules or is the Oval a free-for-all? Management considers the Oval a free-for-all but under its "rules," which it, of course, doesn't enforce. (Earth to a TA member: You don't need a hundred PS officers around the Oval. Just a few who will actually do their job.) This complex has several problems, two of which are bicycles around the Oval and dog droppings not properly picked up, droppings which I come across every day! If management doesn't see this, then they should get out more often. My feeling is that management is perfectly aware of the problems, but is willing to live and let live, as long as the checks come in and the LED Oval Fountain lights are working. The situation is fucked up. But that's the way it is.
ReplyDeleteIf it is true that Bloomberg is likely to become the next Secretary of State, then I am most definitely voting for Trump. I know he is a psycho and a sexual predator, but Bill Clinton was one of the worst sexual predators ever born and Hillary has been caught in so many lies it makes the head spin. Neither one is worthy of the job of President of the United States of America, but I had figured on voting for Hillary, anyway. If Bloomberg is going to be the Sec of State, this slimy little man who has put down women many times in recorded history and is definitely firmly on the side of the 1% and is contemptuous of the 99% and is more loyal to Israel than he is to the USA, then I will vote for Trump. He won't last long in the Oval Office because there is a bed in a psycho ward waiting for him, but maybe we will get a do-over and have a special election with more palatable candidates.
ReplyDeleteHillary v. Donald is like Ted Bundy v. John Wayne Gacy. Both are indescribably vile and should not be on the ticket.
STR...you've put your finger on it. Management now knows the law with respect to dogs, bikes and sidewalks. That is, regardless of whether on public or private property, biking riding is not allowed on sidewalks nor is dog defecation.
ReplyDeleteBut as a matter of policy, not enforcement but policy, management has decided to ignore these laws. As if here in STPCV, management is the arbiter the law in spite of city agencies making it clear that these laws do apply here.
So as a matter of self-interest, they have decided that the dog leash law and clean-up law do apply here, but not the curbing law. And that they can apply the biking law where they like. So they chose to have it apply as a matter of policy to the Oval but nowhere else.
And it appears that the city will let them get away with this. I re-emphasize that I'm not talking about the enforcement level. I'm talking about the policy level.
If enough people here complained to management or to the DOT and DHMH that management here is ignoring the laws on a policy level, those policy decisions might possibly have to be reversed.
hells bells yeah, bright fountain students and new moms like likey meanwhile, back inside all hell breaks loose while I hear my neighbors screaming and hitting one another.
ReplyDeletei'll complain about your dog problems when you complain about the rent bill i get, which you do not. you're paying half as much as me for same apartment. yeah, not fair my friends. in fact, most of the property paying less than half as the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteAgree totally with 10/13 6:04 PM. Almost got mowed down myself on 1st and 10th st.
ReplyDeleteRe:Slamming doors: It's an ongoing problem, not only the front door but within the apartment, the bathroom door, the closet doors SLAMMING, at 1-2Am when these freaks get ready for bed.
I too have come to really hate this place (after ~30 years here)and can't wait to leave. It's a quality of life - life goes by so quickly and I can't wake up every morning in a bad mood from the ongoing stressors of living here and e.g. training each and every neighbor near me NOT to slam your door please and actually having to show them how to close the door quietly, by the handle.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. How about the guy upstairs who drops things (his weights) on my head every time I put on my TV (so low I use closed captions).
It has truly become a nightmare to live here. Low rents ok. but eventually it will wear you down to the point that you don't recognize yourself.
Barry Shapiro, maybe the TA could start up a petition urging Management to enforce the laws concerning bicycles and dogs. I would most certainly sign it, and I think that all of my neighbors would too.
ReplyDelete>>i'll complain about your dog problems when you complain about the rent bill i get, which you do not. you're paying half as much as me for same apartment. yeah, not fair my friends. in fact, most of the property paying less than half as the rest of us.<<
ReplyDeleteGuess what? I do complain about your rent. I don't think anyone should be paying
"market rate" for what this place has become. Admittedly, though, you are supposed to have a nicer apartment than us true RS tenants.
>>in fact, most of the property paying less than half as the rest of us.<<
ReplyDeleteActually, that's wrong, too. Most of the property (over 50%) has caught up with market rate status. The true RS residents, who have less luxurious apartments than you, are heading or at senior status. I suppose nothing prevents you from being angry at them, but they were here first and you are the new comers. You have agreed to the deal management has given you, just as we have agree to the deal, too. Sorry, but that's the way it is. You are the "new comers."
People should look to the TA for absolutely nothing. The TA is not a tenant organization anymore. It is a political organization primarily working toward the personal benefits of Dan Garodnick and Susan Steinberg.
ReplyDeleteThere you have it an honest market rate tenant revealing the divided community that now has jealousy and hate. Don't fret, the politicians negotiated a deal where Blackstone will not charge you for breaking your lease and will even pay your moving fees into the ""true RS" apartments courtesy of the councilman but first you have to push out that pesky true RS.
ReplyDeleteIt's likely that some market-raters and new arrivals have little idea of the history of this place. One woman on our floor passed away about 10 yrs ago at 101. She had been in the Ziegfeld Follies. Must have lived here since 1946. 60 yrs. At this point I've been here going on 40 yrs. And there are many here whose situations are the same.
ReplyDeleteMarket-raters expressing animosity toward the long-timers really is irrational. The price of many apts is high because management has churned these by renting to students in order to raise the rents.
And that's not the half of it. I believe that many people here are still not aware of all the technicalities. About rent stabilization rules, preferential vs legal rents, the Roberts case, j-51 benefits and what will happen here in 2020 when j-51 benefits expire. Those paying the preferential rent may see their rents skyrocket. All the doing of management.
It doesn't stop. This morning (TG it's a beautiful morning at least!), the laundry room is a mess, with someone leaving overnight multiple washes around, including two huge piles of bedding. One can't properly fold one's clothing with the mess strewn about. Good excuse: either you are dead or in the hospital. Otherwise, no excuse for your lack of consideration. Clean your shit up.
ReplyDeleteBicycles? Yes, still roving around the Oval. Riders don't care. Fuck the rules.
Dogs? Barking away at the Oval cafe. Gee, aren't they cute! Lady, keep your dog quite!
That's my morning. Rick thankfully doesn't own the sun.
All the doing of management.
ReplyDeleteOctober 16, 2016 at 8:29 PM
All the doing of management with Albany who with REBNY wrote the laws and runs the Housing agencies to deliberately push out rent stabilized tenants. Property management is not in control they are merely the foot soldiers for Albany who are the puppets for the REBNY lobby.
There exists the plans drawn up for hotel condo towers in Peter Cooper Village.
They won't have to pay much of the stipend to tenants being kicked out because a majority of the leases are students so when they move out they will just not renew the lease. The plan negotiated made allows for the Landlord to decrease the number of tenants and leases to lessen the stipend payout if and when they pull off the Peter Cooper Village hotel condo deal.
"A line in the rent-stabilization law allows landlords to deny tenants’ renewals on leases at stabilized apartments if the landlord can show the state they have approved new building plans, the money to complete them, and agree to pay tenants relocation expenses and a stipend."
If somebody's leaves their wash around for any length of time, I throw it all in a cart and shove it up a corner. If there is no car (as often happens) I just chuck it on the floor up a corner.
ReplyDelete>> If somebody's leaves their wash around for any length of time, I throw it all in a cart and shove it up a corner. If there is no car (as often happens) I just chuck it on the floor up a corner. <<
ReplyDeleteI have my ways. Let us just say, I'm not a model "good neighbor" if you are not.
ask the porter to clean up the laundry rooms. Ask the landlord too . what the fuck do these people do all day long?
ReplyDelete11:51 AM - where did you get this info and does it apply to Stuyvesant Town as well as Peter Cooper Village?
ReplyDelete"I have my ways. Let us just say, I'm not a model "good neighbor" if you are not."
ReplyDeleteIn my laundry room there are sometimes carts full of laundry that has been removed from the dryer (sometimes the washer) and has been there for literally days on end. The stuff removed from the washer will start to stink after a while. If somebody leaves their stuff for that long, it should be considered abandoned and dumped in the garbage bin. In fact, I think there should be a notice (like they have in dry cleaners) stating that laundry left after a certain time (I would give them 3 days) is considered abandoned and will be disposed of. I can't understand the mentality behind those people who leave their stuff moldering for days. Do they just forget?
>>Do they just forget?<<
ReplyDelete"Oh, man, I'm so fucked up today! You mean, I forgot my laundry?"
or ....
"That maid! Never does anything right!"
11:41 am?? What in the XXXX? come again?
ReplyDeleteWhy three days to leave your laundry in the laundry room? Why not two hours?
ReplyDeleteRent Stabilized tenants ( real RS) pay less because they are here for 30, 40,50 or 60 years. They are benefiting from the NYS RS laws. Yes, their rents are lower ( and their kitchens & bathrooms are from 1948) but they are here legally. It would be the same if you moved into a co op & your next door neighbor was living there for 30+ years. You paid $1 million for your apartment & your neighbor paid $ 150,000 for their apartment. There is no reason to be divisive in your postings. It is what it is!!! We know we are lucky. So , please ,don't play one group against the other. Be a " good neighbor".
ReplyDeleteI am a fairly young RS tenant that happened to get lucky a while back and get my apartment through right of Succession. Most (if not all) of my friends that live on property are in market rate apartments. I have met a ton of other MR tenants through my MR friends.
ReplyDeleteThere is no animosity between the 2 groups that I have ever seen or heard of. That snarky post was probably management or the TA trying to cause animosity.
The bottom line is there probably are pissed off MR tenants about RS rent, but it's a minority. Most people just want to go about their day and don't worry about things they don't have the time to change.
they dont' feel we are paying our fair share.
ReplyDeleteOctober 18, 2016 at 11:38 AM Not so. They are jealous, confused and angry they are paying more than their neighbors. They do not want to look like fools so they are placing their anger at the rent stabilized who are paying less. If the cheaper apartments no longer exist then the market rate tenants will not feel like fools. Their egos are bruised because they know they were fooled and are fools for paying market rate. It's not about "fair share" its about not looking foolish.
ReplyDelete"We know we are lucky."
ReplyDeleteYeah, what good fortune to have an apt in the projects at a discounted price. It was so much smarter for me to stay here for decades instead of purchasing a piece of property in the city 25 years ago. My perspicacity is boundless.
"they dont' feel we are paying our fair share."
ReplyDeleteTough shit. Life isn't fair. It's not the fault of the real RS tenants that the MR tenants are paying through the nose. The rents were all fairly low before the RS laws changed to the extent of allowing vacated units to become market rate. Then the loathsome TS acquired the property, harassed many RS tenants out in order to gouge new tenants and then walked away from the property and left it drowning in debt.
Before TS acquired it (using other people's money) the property had no debt and turned a profit. It was run like a well-oiled machine and was very beautiful. Now it's a sucky overpriced dorm and run by a bunch of morons, but that is NOT the fault of the real RS tenants who still pay a low rent. Jealousy is an ugly sin, as is greed. We've all suffered as the result of both.
Good Point
ReplyDeleteThere is no animosity between the 2 groups that I have ever seen or heard of. That snarky post was probably management or the TA trying to cause animosity.
I don't think Management or the TA would put in that snarky remark.
ReplyDeleteToday was a beautiful day!!! I went outside to sit on the bench. Oh, there was no bench available!!! Why?? Because all the hospital workers are using PCV as a cafeteria. So glad we could accommodate them. The VA is a terrible neighbor due to the constant construction of the flood wall. They start at 5 am on many mornings. Not exaggerating!!! So, of course we should make them feel welcome. When their wall is complete & if we have another Sandy like hurricane, all the flood waters will come into PCV. Great. Really, where do they think the water will be going. As a thank you to the VA , invite them in to use our amenities.
ReplyDeleteI do think both management and the TA would put in that snarky remark, and I am that original poster - a younger RS tenant.
ReplyDelete12:53 - you are so wrong. Don't you think these people making enough money to afford $4000/month rent do their research before moving in? They know exactly what they are getting themselves in to. It's like saying they won't research the school districts before buying a house.
I'm pretty sure that is the problem with society today, unfortunately life isn't 'fair'.
ReplyDeleteWhen you expect it to be, you are misguided and generally disappointed.
But I honestly do feel blessed and fortunate for my apartment situation.
The VA are my friends. But I was at the gym nearby and it seems as if the wall is done, at least there was no noise?
ReplyDeleteWalk past VA daily on way to office. It is not done or should i say the noise abounds and it is a mess still. Holy crap, slow fuckers.
ReplyDeleteDo the VA workers who hog the benches to eat their lunches at least have the decency to take their garbage with them when they leave?
ReplyDeleteThey should.
ReplyDeleteBefore the VA gets slammed, let me tell you what the VA means, if you don't know. VA stands for Veterans Affairs. While the people you see are probably workers (who would be there if another hospital were close by, just working for a different hospital), the VA members are veterans of the armed services. I don't know about you, but I give these veterans (of which I am one) some slack. Yes, because the members seem to be mostly poor or close to poor, they may not in appearance be the type that people want hanging around their luxury apartments, but they have been honorably discharged, and frankly, a lot of them can use the help they get. I will never speak against an honorably discharged vet, no matter how shabby he or she looks.
ReplyDeleteme as well. Not going to be upset if they take my spot at the oval. but they should, like all of us, clean their mess.
ReplyDeleteOne of my dearest friends is a former Marine and totally depends on the VA for health care. The health care there is very good, but could be better inasmuch as it takes a while to get an appointment, but emergencies are treated very expeditiously and expertly. My friend is very poor and scrapes by, but that may be due to reversals of fortune after honorable discharge.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, many veterans who saw serious action are scarred for life, both physically and emotionally, and the VA is a lifeline for them. I've noticed that while most of those casualties are older - vets of the Korean and Vietnam wars - more and more are younger folk who have been in the Gulf wars. It must be very hard for them to get on their feet after discharge if they are left with physical or mental issues. Also, I'd like to think that young people who volunteer for the military are doing it because they really want to serve their country and are not volunteering because there is no other way for them to make a living. I sometimes wonder if our government depends on poverty for a steady supply of cannon fodder now that there is no draft. But even with the draft, most "well-positioned" men managed to worm their way out of it, e.g., Donald Trump, Dick Cheney, and many, many others whose parents had power. Just my two cents worth for the day!
Thank you for your Service, STR - both in the military and here in The Sty!
"I don't know about you, but I give these veterans (of which I am one) some slack. Yes, because the members seem to be mostly poor or close to poor, they may not in appearance be the type that people want hanging around their luxury apartments,"
ReplyDeleteI think that in this case the complaint is about the workers from the hospitals using the property as a lunch room. I don't think it was a complaint about the veterans themselves. I think veterans have every right to sit wherever they like and I would not describe this dump as "luxury."
I'm aware that there's been talk of the VA workers, but I am also aware of an undercurrent of being pissed off at the VA in general. The "wall" anyone and Dan's favorite gift to Stuy Town, marred by the "wall," which protects the VA.
ReplyDelete>>Thank you for your Service, STR - both in the military and here in The Sty!<<
ReplyDeleteThanks. I wish I could do more in the military, but I wasn't involved in any action. To those that were, a big thank you!
Let me state that I think all NYC laws should be obeyed--by the VA or anyone else.
ReplyDeleteThe hospital workers ( not veterans ) clean up in some cases. However, they leave their garbage in the garbage bins. Extra work for the STPCV workers. There is ALWAYS some remnant of their lunch left behind - mustard packets, straws , napkins , etc. This is not an extension of the VA We are talking about a rather large number of people coming on to the property Just walk through PCV during lunch time. I see hospital workers in ST also. In the course of the lunch period -12 to 2 - I would say there are 100+ people per day here in PCV . That's a lot. Sounds petty but it's just another layer of the many problems here at home.
ReplyDeleteIf PS patrolled on foot, they could tell those folks not to litter. I really don't think it is right that they should come in and hog the benches because this is private property and outsiders should not be allowed to use it as a public park. They could lock the gates at PCV and it wouldn't be bad idea to put up some gates at Sty because when Target opens, it is going to have more traffic (foot and car) than 34th Street! It seems that with just about every day that goes by our community is being stripped of what made it so desirable and pleasant to live in and is becoming more and more like a badly-run project. In fact, the projects are run better in many cases. Remember, we are the ones paying the rent to live here, not the hospital staff who appropriate it as their lunch room. It used to be that the Beth Israel employees hogged all the parking spaces. Residents' cars should have stickers and be the only ones allowed to park for longer than an hour or so.
ReplyDeleteBlackstone and Bloombug prominent at Al Smith dinner. StuyTown did not stand a chance Everyone who screwed this community since 2006 was on the dais.
ReplyDeleteI watched the Alfred E. Smith dinner last night. I almost threw up looking at the fat fuck cardinal who has a bad track record as a pedophile-enabler, Trump who sounded slurred like he was on drugs and there was some broad in a red dress and white elbow-length gloves and had her fat, droopy tits almost hanging out. She looked a bit like Maria Bartiromo, but I would expect a bit more class from her. What a collection of repulsive, vile human beings!
ReplyDelete"She looked a bit like Maria Bartiromo, but I would expect a bit more class from her." Really, why?
ReplyDelete4:28 LOL The tuxedos, gowns, stages, podiums, dais, gym workouts, over-grooming, plastic surgery and frozen faces all the money spent on appearances can't disguise the insipid.
ReplyDeleteIt WAS Maria Bartiromo! What a class act! Not! I also noticed that Trump sounded slurred. Maybe they put him on some sort of sedative. It started to wear off as the evening progressed though.
ReplyDelete>>It WAS Maria Bartiromo! What a class act! Not! I also noticed that Trump sounded slurred. Maybe they put him on some sort of sedative. It started to wear off as the evening progressed though.<<
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you do not mention Hillary is telling. No more of these "sly" attempts at political nationwide opinions. Please.
Actually the dinner was more about local politics. The interaction between Cuomo, Schneiderman and Viverito the day before he signs the Airbnb bill was the most interesting part of the night. Also, while on the dais at least, two key Blackstone employees did not applaud the local politicians or speak to those three was interesting too. Does it mean anything? Maybe not. Maybe those city politicians and state politicians are too lowbrow for the upper level Blackstone employees on the dais. Those three were the ones to watch.
ReplyDelete"The interaction between Cuomo, Schneiderman and Viverito the day before he signs the Airbnb bill was the most interesting part of the night. ReplyDelete-----
Cuomo, Schneiderman and Viverito (and de Blasio and Garodnick) are Blackstone employees paid indirectly to betray their constituents. For appearance sake they cannot be seen publicly sucking up to their financial benefactors, asking for more $$$$, offering to betray their constituents again and again. By mutual agreement, except on rare occasions (REBNY Gala), that employer-employee/master-slave relationship must be publicly disguised.
