Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.
Management doesn't give a rat's ass about people renting out their apartments UNLESS it is someone in a low rent real RS unit. THEN they would pounce.
ReplyDeleteI just saw their ad on eBay.
ReplyDeleteThose ads have an error. It's not 'pet-friendly'; it's 'POT-friendly'.
ReplyDeleteTruth-in-advertising!
No photos came up, STR.
ReplyDeletePhotos should be there.
ReplyDeleteI'll second that, STR. No photos came up.
ReplyDeleteThey're there now.
ReplyDeleteThe clack, clack, clack of high heels going back and forth and back and forth is driving me nuts!!!!! I cannot for the life of me figure out what they are doing up there pacing to and fro like that!
ReplyDeleteSTR, the photos come up when I view the blog on my iPad, but not on my computer. Maybe it's the ad blocker I have installed. Others probably have ad blockers, too. Who wants to see their shitty ads, anyway?
ReplyDeleteI agree. I hate looking at their disgusting false advertising.
DeleteJust looked at the TA fb site on my computer, and I don't see the shitty ads on there either. Hurray for ad blockers! I don't know how to put one on my iPad.
ReplyDeleteI'm not using an ad blocker, so I see them.
ReplyDeleteThe people behind "Stuy Town" the trademark are there to sell the place, so you are going to see a lot of stupid advertising from them. They actually have a comment section on their Facebook ads, but delete comments that are not positive and ban the poster from further comments, even if the poster knows more about Stuy Town and has lived here much longer than they have. I would never trust those comments to be 100% truthful.
ReplyDeleteDamn! "The Ice" didn't make it.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.thrillist.com/lifestyle/new-york/best-ice-skating-nyc
To show you how stupid the people behind those ads for Stuy Town are, they mention and picture The Ice, our own rink, while The Ice is now disassembled.
ReplyDeleteThey are never going to sell the place to renters . The ads are a smokescreen. They know that this is and will be a city subsidy, student community . Increasingly so. The ads are a joke. We know the truth. Nobody will be renting these overpriced apartments in this dump.
ReplyDeleteThis place is run by a load of brainless tossers.
ReplyDeleteThe things you learn in the laundry room....
ReplyDeleteI was doing a quick load for my son who needed to have a certain shirt or he would die, yada, yada, yada. So anyway while I'm down there I hear one woman tell another that she was almost knocked down by a dog that was chasing a ball thrown by his owner right down the path at the playground where everyone walks. The other woman responded that she knew the man as he is her neighbor and that he does this all the time, basically every day and he brags he doesn't care about the rules here because he is NYPD and the rules don't apply to him. She added he routinely drinks beer and smokes cigarettes in the stairwell and on the main floor stoop. She said her husband once found him sleeping on the stoop with a cigarette in his hand and he just left him there. She went on to say that no one on the floor cares for him but they like his wife and their kids. Then she said something that just left me speechless. She said and I quote that "he was partners with that woman Frances, you know the head of security, and that's why he can do whatever he wants without caring". I knew this place was full of corruption but that one left me shaken. How much more exists that we have no clue about?
They may seem brainless but they are profiting from these deals with NYU and the city . Not so dumb. They know exactly what they are doing at our expense.
ReplyDeleteNot brainless. Smart and calculating.
ReplyDeleteStuy town lottery prices mocked in lowbrow despicable quadrant of approval matrix in current issue of New York Magazine. Thankfully management can't sensor the real press unlike Town & Village and Facebook comments.

ReplyDelete"Stuy Town" the logo and name is used by the New York State officials in Albany years before the name change and logo were announced to the public or this community, and took effect. New York State uses the Stuy Town name for over ten years.
There was never any information given to the community by the so called "Tenant Association" on the name change or their Tenant Association Foundation so-called nonprofit money machine.
There was never any information given to tenants on the Tenant Association Foundation that was given money to an address at 272 First Avenue.
There was never any information given to tenants on the Tenant Association Foundation office in 272 First Avenue used by cops old and young so some must have been retired and many were cranky as all hell in their secrecy, property security, NYC Department of Education members and the Tenant Association Board members. What was or is the Tenant Association using 272A First Avenue for?
There was never any information given to tenants on the name change, new logo and foundation despite that the Tenant Association Chairman Emeritus has or had an office address at 80 State Street, Albany NY lobbying with the State Officials while State Officials used the new name and logo Stuy Town.
There are a lot of secrets in the Albany lobby firm Malkin and Ross on a lot of real estate deals across New York State including the name change new logo "Stuy Town" and the secretive highly questionable Tenant Association Foundation that accepted money at 272 First Avenue and built themselves an office at 272A First Avenue.
The 272A First Avenue office should be investigated along with the Tenant Association accounting books.
Love how New York Magazine put Stuy Town’s “affordable “ lottery apartments in their despicable section. Finally they have been called out by the press.
ReplyDelete"he brags he doesn't care about the rules here because he is NYPD and the rules don't apply to him"
ReplyDeleteApparently he is right. NYPD officers can do whatever they feel like. Check out the thread about bicycles on T&V website to see more NYPD abuse of power.
'272A first Ave"
ReplyDeleteOK enough of this conspiracy BS. Here's a reality check. Always lots of posts here saying that the TA sucks, Blackstone sucks, and all politicians suck. So the question is do you walk the walk? It’s easy to talk the talk.
“Since its opening in 2016, one of the most consistent asks has been, “do you serve beer or wine?” As such, the operator of Five Stuy Café has approached us with the request to begin selling beer and wine (no liquor) should they be approved by the Community Board and the state licensing authority.
As with such big decisions, we’d like to solicit resident input by hosting a Town Hall meeting at 6:30pm on Wednesday, April 3rd in the Community Center. Residents who would like to ask questions or voice an opinion are encouraged to attend.”

Pls check out the FAQ PDF that at the link. Be there or be square. Be prepared, do your research. And, if you are going to post the usual that it’s done deal, everyone is corrupt, why should I go, etc., etc., you are no better than the cheerleaders who chime in on FB. See you all there.

ReplyDeleteWhat do or did NYC Department of Education members have to do with "secrets" and "272 First Avenue?"

ReplyDeleteI will try to be there, but I already have spotted the typical BS from Management, and consider this a step to a "done deal." Sorry, but that is my opinion from watching this.... So, if some residents say no, what then? I can promise that the then will be "we have listened to both good and bad, but since there are many residents in favor..." You know the rest. As I said, I consider this BS, as with several other statements from Management/Hayduk, but what can one do really? Okay, say no, and offer opinions why, but my feeling is, it doesn't matter....
Part of the FAQ:
ReplyDelete>>Why is the operator of Five Stuy Cafe applying for a Beer & Wine License?
Overwhelmingly, residents requested the addition of beer & wine service to enhance both their
meals and social experience.<<
I envision hookahs come in a few years, too.
This is just a process to make beer and wine sold at the failing cafe.
ReplyDeletePart of Hayduk's explanation to residents:
ReplyDelete>>Lastly, the Five Stuy Café operator has filed the application with Community Board 6 (the first step in gaining approval) in advance of the Town Hall<<
In other words, the Community Board will have this in front of them BEFORE that Town Hall meeting. LOL. Sure, why not?
What will it take before residents know they are taken for a ride?
ReplyDeleteWhat makes you think we are unaware?

Nothing. This is the “Alex Jones “of the STR blog. He mixes truth with conspiracy fiction. Sometimes he provides links that if you go through in detail; they do nothing to prove his talking points. As per his rants, the TA has the MO and the operational know how that is equivalent to Opus Dei or the Freemasons. I thought at first he was a management troll, sent to this blog to spread misinformation. I don’t know what to think of him now but just ignore him, he adds zero value to this blog.
"APARTMENT INSPECTIONS" including prying into bathroom and kitchen cabinets, your closets and behind furniture and drapes:
ReplyDeleteHow many people have received these Big Brother threats to invade your home?
HOW MANY PEOPLE are RENT STABILIZED, and HOW MANY are MARKET RATE?
I just found this next to my door. In many decades of living in New York City, I have NEVER received any threat like this.
Several weeks back, someone wrote that they knew of these gestapo demands, and they were being used against RENT STABLIZED RESIDENTS to harass them out of their homes.
To "The things you learn in the laundry room":
ReplyDeleteThank you. Thank you. Thank you.
This might explain some things. Maybe. Such as: Security wasn't only decimated, fired, replaced, hamstrung, emasculated, terrorized. It was also BRIBED. "Do what we tell you and we'll give you all sorts of perks. Such as hiring your relatives. Such as allowing your relatives to behave like obnoxious, drunken(?), noisy, law-breaking human garbage - on a regular/daily basis."
Wow! I shouldn't be surprised. I often think people are basically decent, honest, well-meaning. And that if they behave in ways to hurt others, it's because they are FORCED into it. Hahaha on me! More like they're bribed into it, corrupted into it.
"What will it take before residents know they are taken for a ride?" - STR
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to convince them of that since last Spring, when the extreme and daily noise and spectacle and crowd assaults began, lasting into the Fall.
And it's been announced that it will be WORSE and noisier and crazier this year.
So - "What will it take before residents know they are taken for a ride?"
I plan to go and PROTEST loudly against the beer garden cum eColi 5-Turd café.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't they just shut down the fucking cafe? Hardly anybody eats there, anyway. There's DEATH in every bite!
ReplyDeleteI never shop at the farmers market because it is full of dogs and dog piss and dog shit. This is a RESIDENTIAL community, not a nasty truck stop!
Hayduk, go home. Go away. Please. We don't like you. Don't appreciate you. Don't think you have a brain in your head. We would LOVE to see you GO! SOON!
Many of us know.
ReplyDeleteThe DOE StuyTown comments could have something to do with the pre-approved - pre-arranged photo opps in April 2016 Town & Village while StuyTown is being turned into a luxury dorm property investment. Photo opps that happened mere months before the TA oozed gratitude for Blackstone in Town & Village.
ReplyDeleteAlso the university scandal Operation Varsity Blues that is just now beginning to be exposed where high school students are getting into colleges by their parents fraud tactics has ties here in StuyTown.
There is a lot of money, a lot of "investment" leases and a lot of leases-lumped together in StuyTown.
Major unions have pension investments here including teacher's union.
SEIU 1199 and NYU / Mt Sinai have big stakes here too.

ReplyDeleteLOL. As long as he/she doesn't turn red in the face and start yelling!
That's a great signature, btw. "The Alex Jones of the STR Blog"...
ReplyDeleteIn recent years StuyTown is a current subject of "research" by high school, research universities and grad student studies.
ReplyDeleteThe student papers are just now beginning to be published.
StuyTown residents are interviewed by the students as part of their research. This is public knowledge and now published public knowledge (link).
It is all part of the justification to replace StuyTown as it currently exists with a new developed community and property.
Yes, it is known the DOE has a big presence and role in real estate development of StuyTown as investors, planners, "researchers" whatever else they call themselves.

oh the screaming dude about inspections. relax bubba we all get them. I pay more than $5500 a month and get them and pretty often. Happy now? misery loves misery eh?
ReplyDeleteInstead of The Alex Jones of the STR blog one could be known as The CNN of the STR blog. Same difference just different sides of the aisle, both are fake news, conspiracy theorists. You could exchange CNN with, abc, cbs, nbc, and basically all the media.
ReplyDeleteWhat's this stuff about apartment inspections involving looking into kitchen and bathroom closets? I simply would not allow them to do that. When/if they come to do an inspection of my apartment, I will follow them closely, video recording their EVERY move and I never allow two workmen to be split up and be in separate rooms so same would go for inspectors.
ReplyDeleteDid the Stuy Town tenants sue the landlords and win the Roberts ruling when Tishman Speyer and BlackRock gave control of the property to Fortress Investment Group or did the Stuy Town Tenant Association file, drive, win that lawsuit as New York Times writer Charles Bagli, NPR and former Stuy Town tenant Robert Siegel, NPR News Audie Cornish, and Stuy Town Tenant Association Board Kirsten Aadahl claims in this press interview?
ReplyDeleteWho files lawsuits for rent frauds? Tenants or the Tenant Association? Who did it in the Roberts case?
https://www.nhpr.org/post/botched-ny-real-estate-deal-lost-other-people-billions#stream/0
"SIEGEL: The whole idea behind this deal was that Tishman Speyer and BlackRock could get tenants in rent-regulated units out and tenants who were willing to pay market rents in. The tenants association went to court and blocked them. It turns out, you can't take advantage of public tax breaks - which they and MetLife had been doing - and raise rents the way they planned.
There was no way those thousands of monthly rent checks could match the owners' debts. So the buyers just walked away. Who ultimately lost money and who made money off of this huge deal? I asked Charles Bagli.
BAGLI: Well, two big companies, as you said, they walked away, they turned in the keys and went home. So they pretty much went through it unscathed. But CalPERS, the largest pension fund in the country, lost $500 million - poof, gone.
SIEGEL: California Public Employees Retirement System.
BAGLI: Yes. Another pension fund down in Florida lost 250 million. The government of Singapore, well, they lost the most, over $600 million. It all just went poof.
SIEGEL: So this was the housing crisis in a nutshell right here."
Re: Apartment inspections. The landlord can't go into your drawers, etc. At most, the landlord can just check your walls and rugs. Sometimes, the landlord will take down the serial number of your stove and refrigerator.
ReplyDeleteThen why are they sending those letters out?
Delete"Re: Apartment inspections. "
ReplyDeleteSmoke detectors will also be checked. The big thing now as per a new inspection law (Reg #55?) is an inspection for mold. And BTW, they can access your closets.
I just posted “reg #55” about apartment inspections; here’s the text plus the link. Again, as I stated, that can access your closets:
ReplyDelete“Indoor Allergen Hazards (Mold and pests)
Effective January 19th, 2019, under Local Law 55 of 2018, owners of multiple dwellings
will be required to annually inspect units for indoor allergen hazards, such as mice,
cockroaches, rats, and mold.
Key owner obligations under the new law include:
• Performing annual inspections in each dwelling unit and common area of the
building;
• Providing a notice and New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
(DOHMH) pamphlet to prospective and current tenants (at the time of lease
renewal) that inform the household of the owner’s obligation to do the following:
a required annual inspection of each dwelling unit; and
remediate mold, pests, and underlying conditions that cause mold and attract pests.
• Use integrated pest management to address pest infestations, and prescribed
work practices to fix mold and underlying defects (such as leaks).
• Perform mold, pest, and underlying defect remediation along with thorough
cleaning of any owner-provided carpeting or furniture before a new tenant moves
into an apartment. To learn more about an owner’s obligation in the remediation of mold and pests,
please visit: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/hpd/owners/indoor-allergen-hazards.page.
Required notices and pamphlets will be made available on this page when they
become available.”

Re: Apartment Inspections: Their letter specifies:
ReplyDeleteLooking for areas of potential mold and pests including underneath appliances
Opening bathroom and kitchen cabinets
Opening and inspecting closet wall (NEED TO OPEN CLOSET TO THEM) and ceilings
Looking behind furniture and drapes.
Whaddya think of that and how should this violation of the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution (unreasonable search and seizure) be handled???
"BRIBES" as used in previous post regarding the description of the Security Chief's "partner" dangerous and worse behavior:
ReplyDelete"Bribes" or "bribed" did NOT mean that any Security or other person was offered or given monetary compensation or other material gain in return for performing certain actions, or not performing certain actions.
IT MEANT THAT PERHAPS THE SECURITY ARM OF STUYESANT TOWN/PETER COOPER VILLAGE HAS BEEN PARTIALLY INDUCED TO STAND DOWN AND BECOME WHAT OTHERS DESCRIBED AS WALMART GREETERS IN EXCHANGE FOR . . .
"PERKS," SUCH AS THE ABILITY TO HAVE A PARTNER BEHAVE ANTI-SOCIALLY AND/OR DANGEROUSLY, and THE ABILITY TO HIRE A CLOSE RELATIVE TO WORK HERE.
THAT is what the word "bribe" was used for here.
>>Looking for areas of potential mold and pests including underneath appliances
ReplyDeleteOpening bathroom and kitchen cabinets

Hmm, I should look at the new rule! I was going by the old procedure.

LOL. Hopefully (!?) more effective than that other rule about discarded mattresses that the landlord blatantly ignores. And our TA ignores, too.

ReplyDeleteNot Stuy Town news, but coming to your neighborhood soon. It's all about Big Money, isn't it?
Dear STR, Are you going to follow up on Management's effort to sneak a beer and wine license for the Oval Café?
ReplyDeleteThe residents of 5 Stuyvesant Oval and 1 Stuyvesant Oval are particularly incensed about this.

Something is, indeed, happening. I will try to do a main page post soon.
The short answer is that Management (Rick Hayduk and Blackstone) want approval. A special "town hall" at the Community Center will happen on April 3, Wednesday, 6:30 to pacify tenants who may have concerns.
ReplyDeleteThose who oppose beer and wine being sold at the cafe are urged to attend and voice reasonable issues.
Get this, though. The Community Board 6 may have a debate BEFORE this tenant meeting.

We are asked to voice "reasonable concerns?"
ReplyDeleteWhat does that mean? "reasonable?"
Further destroying peace, quiet, safety, hygiene and cleanliness (more litter, glass bottles, possible/probable vomit) all around the area . . . "REASONABLE???"
Reasonable is my comment. Unreasonable would be "Blackstone works with Hitler to..." If we make absurd comments, we lose without even trying.

In that page is another link to FAQ.
Move here if you want to be plagued by a constant barrage of noises from all ends. I did not believe this before moving in last year but it is unbearable. Initially, no one was living above us when we first moved here from Chelsea. After tenants moved in we noticed even when cleaning just a broom or mop the sound below was ridiculous. It's not even their fault. They were just mopping last week but it can sound like a tunnel of acoustics underneath. I politely asked the tenant what was going on to confirm this and she was just mopping! There is definitely a problem with the floor here being extremely thin and now told its also dangerous. I do not fault the neighbor those working on the property and Blackstone should facilitate repair and re floorings as soon as possible.
ReplyDeleteCommunity board 6, which has several TA members on it, is for sale to the highest bidder. If we can get a dollar amount from them perhaps we can "outbribe" Rick. That's our only hope.
ReplyDeleteI agree about what blackstone might consider "unreasonable." They are entirely without reason, though.
ReplyDeleteRegarding thin floors:
ReplyDeleteIsn't this a fairly new phenomenon? Isn't this solely the result of the constant destruction of walls, appliances, floors to "improve" and renovate" the spaces in order to lure more people here?
Are not the floors being thinned by the frequent "work" on them?
And remember last summer's "use your air-conditioner because the floor boards are popping up due to humidity?"
STR, PLEASE do a main page on the beer and wine scam being perpetrated on us by Management. It needs to be vigorously opposed on all levels.
ReplyDeleteI don’t see the Five Stuy Cafe beer and wine license application hearing on CB 6’s calendar for prior to the April 3 Town Hall meeting.
ReplyDeleteI think you’re misreading what Hayduk said. He said, “Lastly, the Five Stuy Café operator has filed the application with Community Board 6 (the first step in gaining approval) in advance of the Town Hall because of the timing to get on CB6’ agenda for that April 25 meeting.“

"Community board 6, which has several TA members on it, is for sale to the highest bidder. If we can get a dollar amount from them perhaps we can "outbribe" Rick. That's our only hope."
ReplyDeleteAgreed. We can thank Keith Powers for the change in CB6. They were once a reputable organization, concerned with the collective good. Not so much anymore. Their terrible decisions have dropped real estate values in the neighborhood. Good luck selling a condo or coop with a 24/7 heliport right outside your windows.
The floors are sanded each time a tenant moves out. Cheapest easiest fastest way to clean em up.
ReplyDeleteWas chatting with a couple of Market Rate tenants (not students) in the laundry room this afternoon. They can't wait to get out because of the noise and the poor quality "appliances" that come with their apartments. They said they intend to warn as many people as they can that this dump is a "must to avoid" because it is a total rip-off and has the shittiest, most inept and uncaring management they have ever come across These were professional people who have lived in MR apartments elsewhere and know what they are talking about.
ReplyDeleteBrooklyn Landlord Wants To Install Facial Recognition Tech At Rent-Stabilized Complex
ReplyDeletehttp://gothamist.com/2019/03/25/facial_recongnition_building.php
A Brooklyn landlord intends to install facial recognition technology at the entrance of a roughly 700-unit rent-stabilized complex, raising alarm among tenants and housing rights attorneys about what they say is a far-reaching and egregious form of digital surveillance.
Kips Bay Court - now owned by Blackstone, installed facial recognition software some time ago.
ReplyDeleteThey also raise rent as much as 10% with each lease.
And worse.
At some point there is going to be a horrific catastrophe caused by the greedy, bloodsucking vermin that is Blackstone. A floor will finally cave in from being ground down to a thin film, or there will be a fire in one of those open-plan units where the stove is in the fucking living room, or there will be a catastrophic fire caused by a space heater due to the fact that the vermin refuse to supply adequate heat. Something will happen and when it does, I hope that the filth who runs this place is handed serious jail time and Blackstone becomes as held in contempt as the closely-named outfit: Blackwater. Both are mercenary organizations that trade in and feed of human blood.
ReplyDeleteIt will be covered up. This company knows how to cultivate good press and censor bad press.
ReplyDeleteNobody who has any respect for their gut will eat at the e-Coli Five Turd Cafe. It is an absolutely filthy home. I went in there once, saw all the flies on the food and almost threw up. You could offer me free meals three times a day there for a year and I vow I would not even contemplate going in there. It is a disgusting place. But it fits right in with the rest of the trash and squalor that smothers Stuyvesant Town.
ReplyDeleteI also spoke to students and can agree they are unhappy with the property and the megaamount of noisy problem themselves. Babies are babies but the wall between one girl and a neighbor is thin as crepe & she hears the baby wailing all night. People people at the very fucking least, don't put beds on walls. Put furniture, shelving, barrier as our walls are not regular walls.
ReplyDelete
