Banning the Leaf Blowing

Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village constantly use leaf blowing, despite their promotion at being a sustainable community, reducing greenhouse emissions and LEED certification. (That certification costs money, and the building complex is not inspected again.) Leaf blowing is a heath hazard. We are told that even after the leaves have been blow way, the blowers "put into the air little fragments of leaves, and other dust which could be irritating, and could aggravate asthma with exposure. Additionally, there are the exhaust fumes from gas-powered blowers." Here, in this complex which encourages dogs, there is the certainly that particles of dog refuse can be traveling in the air with these blowers. Yummy!

I have seen, and personally was "blown" by such leaf blowers, who use their blowers in the morning, when people are going to work (and later, too). Typically people off to work try to avoid the blowers, but this avoidance is every brief. Residents frequently pass through the kicked-up air on their way to work, shop, or, if they are younger, school. Stuyvesant is too small for the amount of people in the complex to allow this. And we are not even mentioning Covid or other viruses that may be put into the air briefly.

The reason Stuyvesant Town uses leaf blowing is that it gets the job done quickly. That's it. Before, rakes were used, but that takes time and taking time costs Blackstone money. But the rules may be changing, legally. There is a state bill up that may prohibit leaf blowers. Of course, our City Council (which got a pay raise of over 33%) should adopt this resolution, too, and sooner rather than later (or never). Perhaps, our councilman, Keith Powers, can introduce this legislation and work toward its implementation?

Stuyvesant Town is doing residents a harm with these leaf blowers. Management and Blackstone should know it. But, even if they don't, they are warned now. Next is a lawsuit if nothing changes.

  1. They are putting fossil-fuel burning power plants on the property so I doubt they care about our health in any way whatsoever. Blackstone is notorious for being a life-negating murderously greedy organization. Its policies are all based on greed and murderous avarice. It is owned and run by evil people who have no regard for life in any form whatsoever.

  4. I remember that Tishman Speyer cut back on the leaf-blowers because tenants complained. They also took those annoying back-up beeps off of their vehicles and put some other less intrusive sound on them. Hard to believe that TS had some more sympathy or tenants than BS does, but they did.

I think, though, that TS was regularly shamed by the blogger "Lux Living" and he or she had some impact!

  6. I’m not sure that leaf-blowers are actually a time-saver. Effort-saver, for sure, easier the point the blower than to sweep with a rake.

But, with all the time spent walking back and forth, waving the blower around and corralling all the leaves, it could probably be done just as quickly with a rake or two.

  7. Blackstone is not interested in, or even slightly cares about, our health. This is a murderously avaricious, blood-sucking corporation and the owners and servants of this Corporation have to check their consciences at the door when they sign up to work and get a paycheck from this vermin.

Were they aware of the dangers of DDT at the time? If they knew how toxic it was, then that is inexcusable. Somehow, I doubt they would have done it or been able to get away with it if it was known at the time how toxic DDT was. Blackstone knows all the dangers of its policies, from burning the Amazon Forest to building filthy power plants on residential property and they go ahead anyway. My hope is that what goes around comes around.

  17. Hahaha! Funny story.
I was coming out of my apartment and two young ladies, new NYU dorm residents, shrieked. "Ooh, the water. It's brown, stinky and gross. It's coming out of the shower faucets. Now my hair is ruined. Is it like this here all the time??"
    Hahaha, I chuckled to myself.

  18. 2:22 AM: "Don't think the current GM is quite tuned in."

Hayduk and the current GM were two entirely different people. They have entirely different backgrounds, outlooks, concerns in life.

People can be exceedingly complicated and contradictory. I, personally, had a good deal of contact with Hayduk. Most of it was more than pleasant. Some of it was distasteful. I went back and forth in my estimation of him and my feelings about him. I now believe that I was initially correct: he said "yes" to being the disingenuous face of Blackstone here, and I still speculate as to his reasons, one of which might have been compelling, and, believe it or not, unselfish. I wrote about it years ago.

We've had, what, two other Managers here? I don't think the last, short-lived one, or the current one, lives here.

I like knowing with whom I'm dealing so I do research. Information is out there.

    1. I had very limited contact with Hayduk. The one time I met with him, he turned out to be a hypocrite phony. He met with people who had criticized management on the TA site. He agreed and listened to my complaints about the concerts and did nothing about it. Pretended to be sympathetic. He charmed some of my senior friends with the answering of their e-mails personally. Yet things never improved here. A phony. He set in place many of the negatives we deal with now.

  24. THEY WANT US BOTH DEAF AND SICK WITH COVIDAugust 19, 2021 at 6:09 PM

The illegal, unhealthful and disruptive noise on the Oval beginning significantly before 6:00 P.M. (scheduled start time): "Concert" on August 19, 2021 -

    Deafening drums and guitars.

I'd been advised by "management" weeks ago to call to complain to: 311. When I stated nothing would be done, they advised me to call "the police."

I called the police (13th precinct), who informed me: it is legal; it is entertainment. It is a civil matter and I ought go to court against the landlord; the police could/will do nothing. I need to call the Department of Buildings about it. Any decibel reader not "professional" does not count. (Noise here has already been recorded at as much as over 100 decibels, 25 decibels over NYC's legal level.)

The EPA needs to be present and record decibel levels over 75 for the police to respond. (I'm not sure they would actually respond.)

I am sitting and listening to noise going through my entire body.

Someone else called Security, who responded they'd call "management."

I've lots of thoughts, including COVID SUPERSPREADER. I spoke with a number of people today and yesterday who related to me that they knew a list of young people who now have COVID-19 despite either having 2 vaccinations, or being previously vaccinated.

Is anyone here interested in taking action?

  35. When we moved into Stuyvesant Town 18 years ago (market rate as it was the only way to get in) we absolutely loved it here. 14th Street was rough and tumble, but safe and had plenty of shops that we spent our money in; the grounds were beautiful and filled with trees. Since then 14th Street has become like a gutter in Calcutta and we hate even stepping out onto that street. The grounds have been violated and now we have those painfully noisy, horrible "events" and concerts that are nothing more than ABUSIVE. The noise carries all through the complex and people who live on or near the Oval should go on a rent strike.

They are constantly asking people to recommend this place to friends, but to be honest, I would NEVER recommend anybody move into this place. It is full of noisy students and badly maintained and, worse of all, we have these violations of our peace and sanity occurring weekly all through the summer months. I pity people who have had to work from home because of the pandemic. Speaking of the pandemic, I see very few of the younger tenants wearing masks. Management just doesn't give a toss as to whether the new strain of the Covid virus spreads and multiplies. Management doesn't give a toss about ANYTHING relating to tenants' safety and health. All they care about is pulling the gelt and if they can drive the older people in the rent stabilized apartments into their graves, they just love to do that. Don't tell me about the complex being ALL RS because the rents are market rate, no matter what you call them.

Sadly, we are looking for somewhere else to live in a decent neighborhood and in a building that is owned and run by responsible, competent people. The "management" here is the absolute dregs of the RE industry. I doubt that anywhere else would hire these abusive lowlifes. Maybe that's how Blackstone works: hires the most incompetent, uncaring bodies who will do anything to please the Masters and has no conscience or sense of decency. Also, there was a real Security Department here when we moved in. They were competent and caring. That cannot be said for the current mall cops they have working for "Public Safety."

We love our apartment, but the surroundings and the quality of life here is the absolute worse that we've ever encountered. The local politicians are all on the take (can't prove that, but it seems very obvious) and if we are still here come elections, we will vote for every candidate who runs against the current bunch of jerks. Keith Powers should resign in shame. Same goes for the woman who represents the district south of 14th Street. It is a terrible shame that what was once a really gem of an apartment complex has become a festering sore.

  36. Things have got so bad on 14th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A that I don't know why the cops have not got rid of all these illegal peddlers (selling stuff that has no doubt been stolen, thanks to the rule that stores can't call the cops or stop people who steal up to $150 worth of merchandise. I can't wait for De Blasio to be gone. He and his corrupt wife have been milking the taxpayers of this City for her so-called mental health organization while the mentally ill (violent and passive) and the dope dealers and general underbelly of society literally clog up our streets, put legitimate business out of business - not because of the competition, but you have to step over and run the gauntlet of these disgusting creatures to even get into a legitimate store. I don't even like going to Trader Joe or Target anymore because they are on the unflushed toilet side of the street (though the toilet is spreading over on the Sty side too).

I don't know how parents can let their student kids live here, but they probably don't care. I see all these young people (Im pretty sure they are students) out on Avenue A and beyond and they are not wearing masks and seem to be quite unaware of the risks of the Delta Virus, the dangerous human shit prowling 14th and south. Well, if they come to grief I'm sure Blackstone will not give a crap because as one student leaves, no matter what the reasons, they can soon replace him or her with another cookie-cutter stereotype.

Just so sick of this filthy, unhealthy, dangerous and thoroughly nasty place. It's like a cross between an unsupervised dorm and a very bad NYCHA Project.

  40. News flash: I learned not so long ago that not only is "Security" indifferent to the wellbeing of tenants, it will vigorously and physically seek to protect the minions of its employer. The tenants, and others, are permitted to be in harm's way courtesy of rapists and potential rapists; thieves and would-be thieves; drugged and/or drunken or mentally ill violent people. Anyone defined as connected to the esteemed "landlord" is a person whom "Security" will protect.

Long ago, Security was nearly as good as it gets in its activities to do what is healthful and needful for Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village residents. Gradually, and especially once Blackstone came in, they were cut off at the knees. Some of their longtime Guards were badly, badly treated to the point of physical illness. They harassed, lied to, hounded out some of their most effective and caring Officers and Administration.

They instilled an utterly alien culture in which Security enforces nothing having to do with the wellbeing of any resident; routinely ignores scores of legitimate and sometimes dangerous situations of residents; is mostly unthinkably rude, insulting and maybe even threatening to legitimate requests for help. Many of their personnel behave like worse than the stereotyped mall cops. Blackstone/Beam managed to both terrorize and intimidate Security into either quitting or doing the bidding of "master Blackstone/Beam" no matter how harmful to residents.

Some simply strut around smiling at specific residents, crouch down to coo over babies, and then turn scary Rambo on residents who need them.

They have learned to talk sh*t about "Quiet Hours" (which is either for kindergarteners or college dormitories, and not in residential apartment buildings), to insist that shrieking adolescent morons are perfectly within their rights to keep you awake or wake you up on any night of the year.

Ever since Blackstone came in, I've been immensely sympathetic to the plight of Security; I've known many of them and had excellent relationships with them. When the Purge started and they were instructed to do what was wrong and harmful, I felt sorry for them and let them know I understood it was not their doing or choice.

That has changed. Most, but not yet all of the good ones, are gone. And it has been made plain to me that some of them now identify as "part of the Blackstone/Beam team." That means nothing good, and possibly just the opposite for residents. It is sad.

Two women have been menaced here, as recounted on the Facebook page for tenants. I thought I was unshockable, but I was shocked by the response of the latest "man in charge." It seems that rape, violence . . . not to mention threat and menacing of women here is just fine. What is it that employees wear on their "team" sweatshirts?" "Leave people happier than when you found them?" Does that include leaving women menaced and possibly raped and battered, too?

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is from the Stuyvesant Town Tenant Facebook (not the Tenant Association) having to do with a woman who was recently accosted by two (2) different men as she walked her dog on the perimeter of Stuyvesant Town (14th Street, near their fabulous, groovy, sooooo badly needed gym). She recounted her frightening early morning experiences and then goes on to let us know:

'I wrote to Nadeem Siddiqui, our GM. This is his answer, "So sorry to read about this. I can only imagine how you felt. We do regular patrols around the perimeter of Stuytown. Unfortunately, focusing on 1 side of the perimeter, will leave others vulnerable. What we can do, is make more frequent patrols in that specific area.."

(The woman who wrote this then goes on to comment: 'Stuy Town pays for extra patrols when they close the loop roads on Sundays so all of the college students can move in without a hitch, but they can't pay for extra patrols between the hours of 1:00 am - 6:00 am to protect their residents from being assaulted and raped.') Exactly right, yes?!

This is the Nadeem Siddiqui (look him up, please, especially in Linked In. Interesting information there.) who has written 0 to us about the New York State Emergency issued early this afternoon having to do with Henri, now described as a Category 1 storm, the same as the devastating 2012 Hurricane Sandy.

Where is Kelly Vohs, the Beam Dying chief, who goes on and on and on about kindness, caring, being good and doing good for others on his Facebook site, and in that splendid puff piece put out by the New York Times during the earlier pandemic days?

  60. It is important that people wear masks now in indoor spaces such as hallways, elevators, laundry rooms because the Delta variant is no respecter of vaccinations, ages, previous illness or not from COVID-19.

Of course, many of the younger ones here (courtesy of blackheart) refuse to comply. Of course, blackheart installed them here, not only illegally (these ain't no stinkin' dorm, and they cutting of apartments ain't legal, up to code, etc., and so on), but in dangerous numbers in cramped spaces.

Let them know each time you come across these geniuses - politely at first - that they need to be wearing masks in these shared spaces.

This next is from the following site:

NYC HEALTH: COVID-19 Face Masks: Frequently Asked Questions

What if I live in group housing with shared facilities?

If you live in a facility that has shared kitchens, bathrooms or other common spaces, wear a mask when you leave your apartment or room. The facility may require masks in shared spaces, even if you are fully vaccinated.

    Common spaces require masks.

They've stripped the shelves at Target! I don't mind them, but I wish they wore masks. I saw loads of them dancing (maskless) in that bar that is next door (or two doors) to the Yemini-owned deli on Avenue A. They were thoroughly enjoying themselves and I hope and pray they stay well. Also saw a bunch of girls in the laundry room with no masks. I think it's time Mr. Sadiqqui started to "get with the program." At least Hayduk was a bit more on-the-ball when it came to the Covid outbreak, especially in its earlier and more virulent period. The Delta variant is said to be a LOT worse.

Wise up Management. You can save lives. And (more importantly to Blackstone) save Blackstone and NYU having to shell out big bucks when bereaved parents start suing. We know the only thing that matters to BS is money, so they'd be doing themselves and us a favor if they took some firm measures to protect us from Delta.

  71. "Welcome Home" - I am reasonably sure that it did not originate with Hayduk. It is the kind of crap the geniuses above him concocted to hide their illegal destruction of the apartments with their "renovations," chopping up of apartments, and shoveling in hordes of irresponsible, unrelated, non-paying (Daddies and Mommies with too much money paying) human waste (termed "students.")

The neutralization of the directories and these inane name labels on the doors are from, I'm nearly certain, a whole host of demented, emotionally damaged "higher ups" in Blackstone and Beam Dying.

As for COVID-19 - well, I'll be writing lots more when I can replenish my energy. I encountered one postal delivery person whom I've always respected and cared for today, along with at least 3 neighbors, whom I now think ought be tossed into the same place the students need to be for our safety.

Grown people, some of them older folks, in my building's Terrace hallway, either just tolerating me or arguing with me about wearing masks.

It was extremely bad during the first wave of the CORONA VIRUS. It is worse now because people who might have known better the first time around have decided, basically, "f*ck everyone 'cause I ain't wearin' my damn mask for (fill in the blank reasons) and you can die 'cause I don't give a shit about you."

It is also worse now because the Delta variant is much more transmissible, carries a viral load 1,000 times the size of the previous variants, often escapes any and all vaccinations, doesn't give a damn if you've previously contracted and recovered from COVID-19.

The virus will cause you to be contagious for, on average, 12-20 days, and often much, much longer. Even if you have no symptoms yourself.

You can goddamn not only hurt, but kill other people. But, hey, who cares? As my father, dead many years used to say, "People's attitudes is 'HURRAY FOR ME; THE HELL WITH YOU.'"

I'm glad he's not alive to be threatened by the virus. I'm more thankful he's not here to be experiencing the exploding ugliness of human behavior.

"The experts all over the place" is for a whole bunch of reasons. Reasons are "scientific" as well as deeply personal - meaning we rarely can get out of our own tiny, tiny and usually routinely and supremely selfish selves. I've had many medical personnel talk sense and caring for selves and others to me. I’ve had the opposite. I've had one of my own main doctors talk absolute dangerous shit to me about insane can-kill-you behavior regarding COVID-19.

This is not "personal." It is public and widespread and utterly devastating.

What is true is that this virus is a killer, and a brutal and ugly killer, at that.

What is true is that the doctors and scientists know precious little about this particular virus and its versions. They know next to nothing about its lingering effects, and about how it can do damage organs, damage that will not show up for months, and yet be serious, as we've seen in some cases. But these are early days for this virus and its many forms, so we know very little.

What is true is that it is spread from human to human, and some other animals, through the dispersion of droplets coming out of a person's (or other animal's) mouth and nose.

Which means that the least amount of contact, and the most amount of distance, is the most effective way of limiting the occurrences of illness. Not complicated or a mystery.

If contact substantially lessened, and distance substantially expanded, that many fewer people become seriously ill.

Which then means that many fewer people will suffer horrendously, including possible intubation.

Which then means that many fewer people will die excruciating and unnecessary deaths.

This comes down to what pandemics have come down to before, except we have much more information about how this virus is spread, and how we can LIMIT ILLNESSES, SUFFERING, DEATHS:

If people insist that it is simply and ONLY "personal," as I'm hearing more and more these days, from people I respected and trusted to be decent human animals, then we are more fully and graphically living up to our role as the greatest (most numerous and efficient plus creative) destroyers of life on Mother Earth, of everything that is good.

  78. Regarding suing, Hayduk told me personally that they don't enforce many of the rules because they get letters from the attorneys of the miscreants. They don't want to be sued by people who break the rules and threaten to sue. Don't know how they feel about people who are hurt by the rule-breakers. Maybe they hope that the person who is injured in some way by a rule breaker (dog attack, getting hit by a bike, being driven to distraction by unacceptable noise) will go ahead and sue the offender and leave Blackstone out of it.

Blackstone doesn't care a damn about people getting hurt by others who live here. They don't enforce any of the so-called rules because they only care about the kick-back from the assholes who break them.

I detest these management people so much that STR would never print my sentiments. I will only go as far as to say that I hope that what goes around comes around.
Would live to see one of Blackstone's "suits" in a body cast after being hit by a speeding bike. Or someone from upper management missing a chunk of flesh after being attacked by a huge dog that shouldn't have been on the property in the first place.

DO NOT JUST SIT THERE AND ACCEPT THE NOISE. IF "SECURITY" WILL NOT HELP YOU, CONSIDER CALLING THE POLICE.

IF THAT ISN'T IN THE CARDS FOR YOU, TAKE CARE OF IT YOURSELF AND/OR WITH OTHERS.

    LOUD KNOCKING ON THE DOOR.

MAYBE POLITE ASKING TO SHUT IT DOWN OR QUIET IT DOWN CONSIDERABLY.

MAYBE SOMETHING VERY DIFFERENT. AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE.

    REPEATEDLY DURING THAT SAME DISTURBANCE.

UNTIL THEY DECIDE YOU ARE NOT GOING AWAY AND YOU ARE NOT PLEASANT AND THEY NEED TO END IT.

If you have questions or doubts: look at your lease, please. We (YOU) are not living in any kind or sort of UNIVERSITY or COLLEGE HOUSING. Correct?

You have rights to peace, quiet, enjoyment, safety in your HOME.

DO NOT GRIN AND BEAR IT.

    1. Not as mentally deficient as you would think. They know what they are doing and although they might have lost money last year when the students were not here, they are raking it up now. I got no satisfaction from management. I was able to talk to another group of bros and they responded. Good luck. 98. I am literally sick this morning - not with COVID-19, but other physical debilitation and misery because of extreme and growing stress and tension.

Most of it is due to two distinct and yet related groups of people:

Blackstone/Beam, who shovel into our homes groups of students who are and have, for many years now, been extraordinarily harmful to rent-paying residents living peaceably in their own homes, and

    Those students.

Not even something vaguely approaching a good night's sleep is helping to fight off symptoms of illness brought on by depletion of energy deliberately created by these ruiners of human life.

Is not Hurricane Ida enough? Is not COVID-19 enough? Are not the fires and droughts out West enough? Is not the nightly display of innocent suffering humanity in Afghanistan enough?

Why deliberately create so much more human misery right here in our homes? "Money?" "Profit?"

  99. STR -

You know me, personally, pretty well.

I am literally physically ill today after a particularly obscene and damaging interaction with "neighbors" and their "guests" last night.

Afterwards I wrote here on your blog. Either a technical glitch deleted it. Or you made a decision to not publish it.

As I say, I am literally sick today because my body cannot fight "germs" when I'm drained by threats in my own home.

    Please publish it today:

The students living here do not fit the description a friend used years ago about unsavory people: "garbage people." They far exceed it.

They are literally toxic as in capable of killing you via the poison they carry. Seriously. This particular poison is this tiny little virus.

Parasitic, living off parents who are likely as harmful as their offspring, taught no elementary common courtesy and manners, they are vile.

If I had ever once behaved as they do at their age, I would not have been writing this. My father, no saint, but a good father who worked his backside off for us, and spent his adult life helping other people, would have made damn sure I never had the chance to behave like these despicable kids do. And frankly, it would never have occurred to me to even think as they do, let alone speak to another person as they do.

They are spoiled in the true sense of the word: rotten, useless, with no worth, unfit for any respectable use or function.

I attempted to reason with several of them regarding masks and regarding parties in our homes (our buildings) during these days of growing illness, suffering and death courtesy of COVID-19'S Delta edition. (Please watch the nightly news if you doubt the horrors we're continuing to live through in this pandemic. Please. And just wait until NYC finally is hit again hard. We just may end up with the supplemental morgue facilities seen in other states already.)

I was distressed, yes, but I was earnest and respectful and maybe even a bit pleading. I was met with manipulation on the one hand (wink, wink, she believes us, the idiot old woman) and some of the ugliest contempt, sneering, ugly dismissal, disrespect and denigration I've come across in many years.

As I write this, I am aware of wave after wave of young human beings walking into a neighboring, attached building. A top Security official here years ago explained that "gatherings" on weekends are "the party before the party" - before they decamp to the bars a block down.

I am also being disturbed by the noise, first, and then sight of waves of them walking past my building, on the way to those very bars.

They do not belong here. They never did. And they likely carry, or will carry, the Delta or other variants into our buildings to harm and/or kill us.

PLUS: you get to hear vile, contemptible young of our own species vent venom at you as they laugh behind your back and in your face, maskless. And yet, they, too are sickening and some dying and they laugh.

    Well, we'll see.

I am fortunate that I have very nice neighbors who are real tenants, but the elevators are always full of braying, unmasked students who all seem to have mouths like horses. Never seen so many huge teeth! The laundry room is unusable because most of the machines are broken and the few that actually work are monopolized by the bros and screechy girls who fill them to capacity, put in half a jug of detergent and then forget to empty them for a few days. 102. The forgetting the laundry:

Years back, maybe even before blackheart bought this once lovely oasis in Manhattan, I was there for Public Safety's talk with a young (yuppie used to be the term) couple about their laundry:

The male and female (people didn't "identify" themselves in those days) were indignant, outraged and apoplectic. Why?

Someone had the nerve to take their laundry out of the dryer (I think, probably not the washing machine) and steal it A WEEK AGO. Gosh golly darn, it was only LAST WEEKEND.

Why had someone stolen their laundry a week ago?

I can go you one better, one I think I posted here also a few years back:

Public Safety told me that at least once a week some teary female came in asking if they could help her recover whatever had been stolen the night before from her apartment. How was it stolen? She went out to one of the bars here, got drunk (maybe drugged, too, I dunno), dragged home some stranger she didn't know, slept with him, fell asleep and woke up to find out, "He's gone and he stole my . . ." This was standard. College students going out in laughing hyena herds, dressed like particularly tasteless and lower rung working girls, getting drunk and picking up strangers. They still do it, looks like to me.

I was young. I was a little on the wild side for some years. I never did dumb sh*t like that. None of my friends, I don't think, did that kind of thing. Other stupid things. Not that stupid.

Public Safety told me, some time after that, that the decorous and modest young ladies living here too often call for help and answer the doors nearly naked. No, these aren't the brothels. These are the vampire (as in parasites; I actually like some of the traditional and non-traditional vampire tales) children produced, raised, and taught by the previous exemplary generation. 109. I saw on the news that there was a deadly house fire somewhere in Queens because somebody was charging the battery on an E-Scooter.

I wonder how many of the E-Scooter owners who live in PCVST charge their toys in their apartments? It's bad enough that most of us have to use space heaters during the cold months because of the insufficient heat that Management parses out?

Then you hit the vendors. This is a horrible disgrace and should be dealt with by our do nothing city council people. It gets worse by the week. Target is full of the dorm dump folk buying up the store. Lines long, populated by the pigsty student element. This neighborhood has truly become disgusting.

I love the almost naked bikini babes on the Oval.
I hate the piles of dog shit on the grass and on the paths.
I do not like the garbage left on the Oval or the empty liquor bottles under the Adirondack chairs.
I do not like the smell of marijuana wafting throughout the premises.
I despise the dog urine in the elevators and the dog shit in the stairwells.
I abhor the noise blaring concerts which are an assault on our peace and quiet.
I wouldn't eat the garbage which passes as food at the Five Stuy eColi Cafe or consume their watered down overpriced drinks if they gave it to me for free.
I hate the Oval Cafe's canned "muzak" which plays incessantly hour after hour annoying the residents of the neighboring buildings.
    I give Management a grade of F.
This is a residential community, not a resort or cruise ship.
No more transients, AirBnb, or dormification!
I would give management an F.
Any thoughts or comments on my rant?

  113. Just a FYI everyone. This holiday weekend is going to be a very bad NYU/Bro/Woo party weekend. And as it's been noted, this is the worst NYU dorm shithole time ever here. They are EVERYWHERE in the Sty. And do to the excuse of the storm, there will be zero PS enforcement. Yeah, I know, very little PS enforcement to begin with. I hate this place now, it could be so much better.

If there is one thing that was good about the recent storm it is that they had to cancel the "concert" and spare us the noise of the untalented goons that think they are musicians. It would be so bad if they had real talent and maybe put on something like a "Mostly Mozart" series. Then people who live on the Oval might open their windows to listen instead of having to desperately try to shut out the execrable din. Probably, they would attract real music lovers if they put on something that was pleasant to listen to. End of Rant.

BTW, they will reschedule the movie night dropped due to the storm to some Wednesday in September. During the school year. They have done this before. Our "Life Styles" director thinks he is the commissioner of MLB.

  117. Anything I wrote previously about the human poison flowing into my home is now doubled and trebled. I am speaking of the incorrigible, seemingly irredeemable sob's whom the utterly depraved landlord and its minions BROUGHT INTO OUR HOMES over the last couple of weeks. "Students?" They are "students," surely, of only depravity, extreme and literally lethal persuasion that they alone are worthy of life itself, and you, you can go to hell and die a slow agonizing death. And don't you dare question them about it. I am referring, specifically to actions connected to COVID-19, and of course, to most of how they behave.

After all, lack of sleep, and forced inhalation of marijuana smoke, and hours of noise which can hurt the entire body, and inability to be safe in your own home because of all of the real dangers they bring in (be they bedbugs or the rapists who come here attracted by the hundreds of girls getting drunk and dressed like what can charitably be called as lower class working women, or any of a number of dangerous behaviors) can eventually contribute mightily to the stress and diseases that kill people.

A few years back, a close friend came upon a badly injured young delivery man lying helpless in one of the Loops early in the evening. At least one group of young college males stood there and looked at the injured man and refused to even call an ambulance on their parent-bought mucho expensivo cell phone.

All of the mob behavior for nights on end broadcast from NYU's Washington Square Park last year has returned to destroy our tiniest sliver of peace, of peace of mind, of possible safety from the now three or four variants of COVID-19.

I cannot state what I know to be the only solution for their behaviors. It is considered impolite in this country to graphically and precisely describes what stops people from preventing other people from hurting them as a way of life.

A close friend of mine who worked for 10 years in a prison system as a volunteer, trying to broaden the thinking and hence choices of the inmates, has often told me: People do not change. They learn nothing. An inmate may have been in solitary confinement for an entire year. Within one hour of being released, they are indulging in exactly the behavior which had them thrown into solitary a year ago.

My friend goes on to assert, with truth I am afraid, that this near total intractability, refusal to improve behavior, is a basic human trait.

    Well, this society -

    - first every "parent" of these students of moral depravity (absence of morals, manners, values - read "sociopathy) has more than likely passed this on to these worse-than-parasite-class-animals, because this has been the way of the land, increasingly, for at least 20-30 years now, and then

    - the educational system (it's ok, I was a teacher myself and am related to teachers and so forth), which was debased and destroyed at least 20 years ago, and

    - other institutions, and the consumer culture, and

    - the "I am the best thing that ever happened in this solar system" crap

have made it a virtual impossibility to persuade these arrogant, hateful, brazen children that they might want to behave much differently toward their fellow human beings.

I am light years past sick of what these parasites, in their many hundreds now, are doing to my home, your home, our home. I am light years past sick of now every employee supposedly assigned to help and protect us either ignoring or hurting us.

What to do? Other than leave my formerly much loved home, what to do?

  123. When I was much younger, I came up with the notion I called the "10% or Iceberg" truth.

It is simple: anything (usually anybody) which is wrong, destructive, negative . . . is revealing to you only about 10% of their bad stuff. There is a vast, looming iceberg beneath the surface which you cannot see. There is tons more of the wrong thinking and action and speech in that person, that situation.

The actions of the Blackstone Group, their "Management" Company, Beam; many of the employees such as "Public Safety" and relatively higher echelon "Management" people are inimical to us beyond anything we've yet seen. I have been given increasing tastes of threats to my health, life, well-being. And several varieties of escalating literal threats now.

So have: September 3, 2021 at 10:51 PM; September 4, 2021 at 1:05 AM above and others.

Do you understand, whomever is reading this, that there is an entire list of laws that are being broken in connection with these "parties?" Do you understand that all of this is 100% illegal for good, ethical and humane reasons?

Do you understand that, in addition to all of the now standard illegality and inhumanity, NOW it can be literally death-dealing because of COVID-19?

Actions are being taken to wantonly and deliberately hurt us, badly. "The money" is nowhere near the whole picture, although it figures in in many ways.

I'll provide some details later. I wish to heaven that, as another poster said above, more of us would (my own words now) FIGHT back, literally defend ourselves against harm and possible death.

(If that sounds exaggerated, or overly dramatic, recall that now there are multiple break-ins or attempted break-ins in Stuyvesant Town in the last couple of weeks, including last night; attempted attacks on at least one woman a couple of weeks ago. "Security" does nothing to prevent break-ins, violence, rapes, attempted rapes, attempted assaults. Not anymore. They are not permitted to protect us. Their jobs - salaries, benefits - will be taken from them if they do protect us. That has been true for some years now, and it is worsening badly now.

Some years back, on the same day, one older woman jumped out of her window in Peter Cooper as just hours later, on that bright sunny Sunday, an NYU student killed himself and harmed innocent people with his Stuyvesant Town meth lab.)

There is some number of us who do not want to leave our homes. There is no reason we need to leave our homes because soul-dead, twisted psychopaths have colonized us and brought with them human parasites to hurt and even kill us with their other behaviors in addition to the COVID-19 killer virus.

  124. It’s true that a residential complex should not be used as a dorm, but the vindictive ranting is very inappropriate and somewhat unhinged.
The presence of such a large number of very young students living in an unsupervised dorm presents danger to the whole community. They tend to attract predators, especially as there is so much drinking involved in their “recreational “ behavior. Also, they have numerous visitors coming and going and we don’t know who might be prowling around our buildings.
I know that management wants to get rid of the older tenants in lower rent apartments, it they can’t hope to attract high rent tenants to live in an unsupervised dorm. Adults with jobs to get up early and go to or who work from home do not want to live in a dorm atmosphere. Nor do people who are raising families.
Dorms do not coexist well with post-college living!

Management offers a reward for referring someone to live here! There is nobody who I hate enough to encourage them to live here. I consider it a public service to warn people to avoid this place because they would get a better quality of life if they moved into a homeless shelter.

The Sty was relatively peaceful before these fucking students came pouring in. It is inexcusable to turn a residential property into a dorm. It's no good calling Public Safety because they have been castrated and a very small group anyway. Management got rid of all the really good PS officers and has these dopey kids who look like they just got out of high school. There used to be a good guy in charge of "Security" as it was called a whole ago, but they got rid of him and put some puppet in his place.

As I've said before, the conditions here are much worse than we are aware of at any given time. I've been trying to understand a little of the motives and the results here. I don't like what I've been able to understand and accept. It is not only infuriating, but it is painful and to me, in some ways incomprehensible.

I wasn't raised in a world of compassionate, wise, unselfish people. Many, however, were just that - friends and relatives - and strangers. Yes, there has always been greed and cruelty among people. Not at this magnitude, though. Human animals simply didn't have the methods to consolidate it as they have now, and are doing so increasingly.

. . . much more, I'll try to put it into words. Again: to those willing to experience, accept and express their awareness of the hell deliberately imposed upon us: you are helping to keep me sane. And just maybe, we might finally join together to actively oppose it.

What is described is definitively and emphatically NOT what is happening here.

What is the phrase: "I call bullshit!"

There is a clear, ongoing, well-defined pattern, and most likely detailed and written PLAN to harass (read, "badly harm and injure") tenants in order to force them to leave.

  137. I think it is criminally irresponsible for management to bring in hordes of students from all over the country (maybe from other countries, too) when we have such a virulent and worsening pandemic. Who knows whether or not they are vaccinated or carrying the virus. They are living crowded together and no doubt those who are vulnerable will be infected by those who are carriers. The unvaccinated are the the biggest threat to others and the most vulnerable themselves.

We have several elderly people living here and there are young families with children (though I think that many of those people were smart enough to get out of here early on). Management persists with these ridiculous "events" that encourage people to crowd together and there is absolutely no enforcement of the CDC guidelines regarding masks and "social distancing." It's like they are inviting the virus to spread. They are just about rolling out the red carpet for DEATH!

I pity the people who work here in Covidville. They probably don't have much choice, given that they need the jobs.

I've read that a nation gets the government which it deserves. Years of living have taught me that tenants get the homes they deserve and workers get the working conditions they deserve. Plug in any other situation.

This all boils down to: if people just submit to predation, exploitation and so forth . . . when they have the numbers and the means to organize resistance . . . well, then you are inviting more of it.

But, hey, years ago before even these sob's were here, we had a many-houred "concert" at which the NYPD 13th Precinct was in attendance and experiencing themselves sustained decibel levels heard for blocks around us. They did absolutely nothing.

The last time I spoke with the Precinct, a few weeks back, I asked whomever was at the desk that night to give me the name/s of exactly who is being bribed to allow this, and to also supply me with the amount of money given to them.

This place is already a nasty, dirty, dangerous slum. If "management" would work on rectifying that situation it might make sense to try to install upscale additions, but so long as it is a dirty, dangerous NOISY, dog/human shit-splattered dump, they should really not bother. I'll take cabs and buses to real supermarkets, but I won't spend money in TJ, Target and any overpriced facility (music be damned) that this total fuck-up of a management wants to provide.

The new neighborhood ushered in by the vultures who picked the dead corpse left by the foreclosure is now referred to as THE STY, yes, as in Pig Sty or those gross, puss spewing things one gets in the corner of their eye. The only thing Beam Living can do is collect rent. They have no other skills.

The new Stuy Town is Battery Park City.

    1. Absolutely. This pigsty will
continue the downward spiral as older residents pass on. I believe that about 70 percent of my building is now roomies, students, and transients. They are really packing them into these apartments. The only decent thing we still have here is maintenance service. Nothing else. You can’t even compare Battery Park City to Stuyvesant Town at any time. More expensive but definitely more upscale.

  161. >>Face it, Stuy Town is dead.<<

I don't disagree to some extent. Management is not managing but just BSing.

  162. This place is truly for the dogs. Not only is it uninhabitable for residents. I never saw so many dogs in my life. Infested with them and many oversized ones. Like one big dirty dog park.

  163. Some residents with no heat in winter, apartments filled with 4 or more students or roomies. Airbnb galore, dogs out of control, noise polluting events on the oval, filthy halls, a hellhole across the street which occasionally spills into the development, ancient plumbing, pot stinking up the halls, maskless students in the elevators, filthy recycling rooms due to students, management having no inkling about who lives here, lousy retail in the neighborhood. If this sty isn’t dead, I don’t know what is.

  164. @September 24 at 5:40 PM - you hit the nail right on the head. This place is DEAD. It is dead inasmuch as it is a safe, clean, well-run residential complex for families and professionals and firefighters and cops. It is now a dirty, nasty, noisy, unsupervised student (undergrad student) dorm. We have AirbNB galore and I know for a fact that people just swap apartments and Management hasn't got a clue who lives in very, very many of its apartments. Management doesn't seem to care because it makes it so easy for people to do this! People don't break their leases and go through the aggravation. No, they just find somebody to take over the apartment at whatever rent the "rightful" tenants are paying. I know people who do this. It is very easy because every apartment (except the unrenovated ones) is occupied by "Welcome Home" and they are listed on the Directory (if you can call it that) as "Private." Management should forget about its leasing office and agents because tenants work these things themselves. We don't know who is living here and neither does Management.

If there is ever an award going for the most badly run, unregulated (as far as who is here and who is not) apartment complex, this place will take First Prize. Same if there is an award going for the most inept, unprofessional Manager and Management Team, I don't have to tell you who would get the trophy.

Ignore your lease. If you don't want to go through the hassle when you want to move out, just find people who will (under cover) take it over. By the time the lease is up, the second round will probably be out and Management won't know where the original Lessees are and won't know squat about the people who moved in and then left without officially terminating the lease. They could all be anywhere on the planet and Management will never catch up with them, even if they leave the apartment totally trashed.

Our total asshole of a Mayor wants to do away with criminal background checks; he already lets criminals out without bail; and it has cut the balls of the NYPD so that petty crime, such as shoplifting is not prosecutable. Noticed how stores have everything under lock and key and/or shelves deliberately left empty? Any and every asshole POS will soon be in here without having been checked for a criminal record. Probably, a lot of them are here now.

Such a pretty picture, eh? But cheer up folks because at least we have the movies on the Oval, muzak a the Five Turd E-colie Caf, plentiful heaps of dog shit and puddles of dog piss, not just outside, but in our elevators, halls and stairs. There's a giant shit patch (I think somebody must have skidded on it, but never mind because it's supposed to be good luck) and two huge puddle stains on the carpet in my hall. I am embarrassed to invite people over.

To whomever was responsible for selling us to the Amazon-burning, life-destroying murderous crew known as Blackstone Properties: may you have the worst karma imaginable dog you for the rest of your wasted-on-you life/lives.

    1. I too am embarrassed to have people come over to visit me here. Our carpet is stained and the entire development is shabby looking.

    2. Regarding your last paragraph- that is easy. It was Garodnick and the TA. Boy were they gushing when Blackstone had their initial press conference. Karma will absolutely get all of them.

    3. Absolutely . Phony Garodnick and the do nothing TA are responsible for the terrible state of affairs here. I remember how they hailed this deal with the devil at the introductory meeting. Shame on them.

  165. Plenty of screaming, braying drunks last night.
I hate living in a dorm. What a rotten failure the
Sty has become. It in no way is run as a livable housing complex. It’s gone 180 degrees from the pleasant place it used to be.

  166. There’s an illegal swap situation on my floor (they even were stupid enough to admit it) and the new folk have brought in a dog that barks all fucking night.
When i move out (soon I hope) I won’t bother to tell mismanagement. They don’t have the will or the staff to care who lives here.
