What, Me Worry?

If you are a senior and need assistance, this info in Rick's new letter:

"Are you someone who is ‘at risk’ and don’t have a support network of friends or family locally that can help? Please reply to this email {I will find out to make sure what email--STR} or call 212.420.5000, and we will connect you with a volunteer in our community that can help."

And don't worry to the point of panic. All of us are worried to a certain extent, but we also are all in this, so really you are not alone.

Blackstone, your landlord, is written about below

and now this:

*     *     *
Here we go again. Our "landlord," (Blackstone in the person of Rick) has sought to minimize or ignore the incidents that occurred a week ago. There has been no public statement about these incidents even though a senior citizen and another person were assaulted/punched/threatened with violence/whatever by a naked resident who may have had issues. Later, there was the incident where this naked man was out in the Oval. Public Safety and the police appeared. Screaming was heard, etc. Not a word from Management about these incidents for over a week. We have been here before where Management has sought to ignore or minimize what is happening here for the sake of the unaware potential renters ($) that Blackstone hopes will come to this place. Wrong move.

Update, 4/30: The two incidents happened on 4/21. Management has been silent, but today there was an email to residents (which I never get, despite telling Resident Services at least twice about my email address). I quote: "Final update on the unfortunate event of last week. The assailant's household has vacated the apartment and terminated the lease. The assailant never returned to the building as requested. Our thoughts remain with those who were involved in this incident."

Only residents of this building got this email. I note the word "final."

>>I'm seeing on the TA FB posts from people who fear they will not be able to pay their rent due April 1.<<

I may be one of those people. Right now, I do not know. I am retired, though I do work which is now in a standstill, at least temporarily. And I have a "low rent" apartment. A lot of people, in ST/PCV, live from "paycheck to paycheck." Some younger people use other things, like more than 3 unrelated persons in an apartment, to pay the rent.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Before I forget, I was very pleased to see a slab in front of that Veteran's Memorial that mentions the reason ST/PCV was created, etc.

I wish they would limit the hours of the dog runs. Seven and eight o'clock in the morning is too early for dogs running and barking all over the freaking place.

Heat? What's this thing people keep talking about "heat"?
I rarely get heat in my apartment.
Rick is truly a vile, self-promoting individual.
Forget the "amenities" and send up some HEAT.
There are elderly and infirm living here on "campus".
Show a little humanity.
HEAT. HEAT.

Rick has made it clear that 70 degrees is the max they aim at. Don't think it's adequate? Tough shit.

I no longer attempt to read his Good Neighbor emails because the font is too small and my eyesight isn't that great. I just delete them automatically.

The Coronavirus does not thrive in heat. It thrives in cold. No wonder it is getting a good grip on PCVST. I can't wait to get out of this hellhole. Overpriced, under-heated, noisy, filthy tenement slum owned and run by total scumbags.

Anonymous said...

"Re playground 1. Were they in the playground itself?"

No they were blocking all the pathways outside the playground. No way one could pass by without being right next to someone or possibly being run down by a bicycle. It was a clear violation of the law as issued by Governor Cuomo. And it went on for hours so there is no way Fran Martin and her band of incompetents didn't see it.

Anonymous said...

The set points for heat are 70 during the day and 66 at night. I thought that originally we were told it was 72 during the day? That extra couple of degrees can make a difference. 66 at night is ridiculous. Like sleeping outside.

Seems this Covid virus situation has deflected attention from the issue of the illegally removed directories. Rick must be grateful to Covid-19 for that. I opted IN twice, but am listed as "Private." What is wrong with this dumb fuck that he just can't do anything right in the areas that we care about, but he's giving parents advice on how to entertain their children and pushing the E-Coli Cafe and Beam Living Radio? You can't make this stuff up. It's surreal. I feel like I'm living on Planet DingDong and he is Captain Dinga Ling. He just doesn't have a clue. Someone please tell him he's running (?) an apartment complex in a Big City, not a low-end resort in Karaboosie, FL. He really is a buffoon.

Yes, but.... I've watched several vblogs from the Thailand area, and though they mention always how hot it is, the virus has arrived in that area....

Anonymous said...

I am not so sure that the virus dies in hot temperatures as in the climate or weather, but I have read that if you wash things and clothes in hot water the virus is killed. I think that's why we are advised to wash our hands thoroughly under running hot (not scalding!) water.

If we have any doubts about the abject and shockingly sick people who own and run Blackstone, there is demonstration of it in some articles published about them since the pandemic began here.

I'm not able to access this particular article without paying for it (Bloomberg trying to pry more money of of me), or I'd print it here, but this is the title of one of them: "Blackstone Sees Buyout Opportunities with Virus-Cheapened Assets."

Schwarzman unashamedly articulates his greed to profit HUGELY from the WORLDWIDE suffering, loss, grief and despair this disease is causing.

Looks like there may be some relief to people dealing with renovations - Cuomo is said to getting ready to stop all non-essential Construction. Sucks that we have such an inconsiderate manager, who claims to care about the tenants, but then brings in countless unnecessary construction workers to potentially spread the virus to us. Talk about a hypocrite- goes to show it’s always about the money, not the well being of the tenants.

Let it back up and overflow and go down to the apartment downstairs from you and downstairs from that one. You could try dumping a few cans of Liquid Plumber and Draino down the toilet. If it fucks the pipes, so what? Consider that every dollar you cost them comes out of the Satanic Stephen Schwarzman's pocket. It gives me pleasure to create costs for this place. Rick Hayduk's incompetent idea of keeping open the outer doors is having the effect of creating a dangerous condition in multiple regards. First, lazy residents who smoke are using the vestibule as an indoor smoking room not bothering to leave the building anymore. As a first floor resident right above the vestibule the smoke pours into my apartment. My family has breathing issues which this exacerbates, which I will have my family attorney address with Beam Living. Secondly, since it is becoming a hangout, you never know who is hanging out and that is a safety concern. beam Living is so inexperienced in managing properties that they are downright dangerous.

Leaving the vestibule door open is ridiculous. It is an invitation for opportunists to go in and wait for the locked door to be opened by a tenant coming out or going in. The whole neighborhood is crawling with homeless people and junkies.

Hayduk is a total incompetent. He gave the green light for PS to buzz in anybody and everybody on Halloween (something many of us hate anyway!); he removed the directories and then when he was forced to put them back because what he did was illegal, he made a total fuck-up of that. I am listed as "Private" even though I opted in TWICE. The man is a total incompetent and we deserve better. He has the mentality of a cruise director and he's turned this place into a sinking ship. He probably means well, but he needs to get more hard-minded when it comes to our safety and well-being in our apartments, such as noise and lack of heat, and stop trying to entertain us.

Anonymous said...

"Against the law. Contact the Dept. of Consumer Affairs."

Correct.

The NYC Council passed the ban on non cash transactions only on 1/23/2020.

"Under the bill, businesses that refuse cash face fines of $1,000 for a first violation and $1,500 for each subsequent offense. Businesses with devices that convert cash to cards, like those found in many laundromats, are exempt under certain conditions, including a provision that there be no fee for such cards."

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/23/nyregion/nyc-cashless-ban.html

So DD is in violation of the law.

BTW, this link and whole butch of hits for this issue was easily found via Google.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>So DD is in violation of the law.<<

From everything I read, yes, this store is violating the law. And, yes, I am familiar with that January bill passed by the city council. That said, I still wonder if they are going to use the excuse of the virus. Almost opposite that store, on the other side of 1st Avenue, is the homeless "encampment." I wonder if the real reason is to prevent "those people" from coming into the store.

BTW, even before this, I hate that store and do not patronize it.

The Dunkin Donuts on 14th is not taking cash either. A friend of mine said that a CVS in Saratoga County is also not taking cash. The situation of the virus may allow that to happen.

Is it wise to leave doors open in a building with barely any heat? They really want to rid the place of the elderly don't they?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>The situation of the virus may allow that to happen.<<

I have heard nothing official yet. Not from the Governor, the Mayor. Not even from the main office of Dunkin Donuts. I believe this is self generated from the store owners. I have to laugh that people on the TA page keep praising Keith Powers for things like getting senior hours at Trader Joe’s. Meanwhile he is doing absolutely nothing about heat issues.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I was outside today for some fresh air and to buy food. I noticed that there still are a few people not following the guidelines. Smokers all! One person was almost standing in the middle of the walkway, puffing away, while observing "social distance" to the people he was talking to, who were a respectful distance away. But, of course, he was standing in the middle of the walkway. Concerned people had to find a safe way to get around him. One mom with her baby inside a stroller went right near the edge to go around him. I could tell she was worried.

The two other people were smoking a cigar! Now, I believe they have a right to smoke their cigar, but the smell travels a good distance. Okay, but each one was sitting near passing people. Usually such a smoker tends to smoke away from people, but this time, with the virus around, one person was on that metal bench near a store, forcing people passing by to smell cigar smoke. The other person was sitting near the PCV booth, smoking away! Again, forcing people to smell what non-smokers consider stink.

To me such behavior is disrespectful, virus or not. I know that people can be addicted to smoking, but be aware that others may not want to smell this pleasure.

Why move into a place like this at such a ridiculous rent if you have to live pay check to pay check? There are cheaper places to be had, though maybe not in Manhattan where you can pay less rent and actually get heat and clean water. These are the folks who tend to look down on the long term tenants who live in the unrenovated units and don't appreciate the dopey chi chi events Rick puts on, but those people don't have to go cap in hand on rent day.

Wrong. You are paying the massive debt that the property is saddled with as the result of being sold for much, much more than it was worth to Tishman Speyer and then by a greedy, vulture hedge fund. When MetLife sold it, the property was making a profit, but they conned TS into buying it on the premise that it could be turned into "luxury" apartments. The old sow's ear into a silk purse con. Now we are all suffering for the unbridled greed of TS, CWC and Blackstone.

What the hell is wrong with this management that we get a short blast of heat and then NOTHING for hours on end? Just as the apartment is warming up, the heat goes off and the temperature plummets. Is this some deliberate sadistic cat and mouse game that management is playing? If so, they are playing with people's lives. There will be many more coronavirus sufferers in PCVST because those of us who are fighting it off are going to succumb. This is the most irresponsible, callous, sadistic "mismanagement" we have ever had. Probably one of the worst in the entire City (maybe with the exception of NYCHA). We are out of here as soon as we are able and will be writing extensively about our stay in the coldest apartment we ever lived in in a complex with the coldest and dumbest property manager we ever encountered. Stay tuned.

This "protocol" of having to have a thermometer to check before you can call RS about no heat and then having an "engineer" come to your apartment is one thing and one thing only: TENANT HARASSMENT. They know that they are not giving any heat (or only giving very inadequate heat) and they know that most tenants do not want an "engineer" to come to their apartment. It is an unwelcome intrusion. It is a very nasty form of TENANT HARASSMENT perpetrated under the guise of being legit. Those "engineers" are really no such thing. The clod around the apartment, invade your privacy and usually end up doing absolutely nothing about the heat. I think they are glorified handymen.

I know of no other apartment complex anywhere in New York or elsewhere where this "protocol" is used. They do it to intimidate tenants into shutting up about having no heat. The only person I would allow into my apartment concerning the heat is a City Inspector and I think Management gets an alert when one of those is coming and they turn the heat on. If they're going to insist we use thermometers, then we should those thermometers that record what the temperature was every hour over the last 24 hours and save the info - sort of the way a blood pressure monitor keeps a record of earlier readings.

Wasn't even born in 1954! Was born in 1976. Raised here and eventually got my own apartment here where I live with my spouse. There was nothing fancy about this place then and there isn't now. In fact, it has deteriorated very, very much over the last 20 or so years. Artificial "luxury," sky-high rents and an abysmally sad reduction in safety, maintenance and general quality of life. I've been talking on Facetime to several friends who live in apartments in NYC and Queens and they ALL have heat tonight and are shocked that we don't. Clearly, the sensors don't work and that being the case, the landlord should send up some heat. Another thing this neanderthal asshole has come up with: only one person per apartment can be listed in the directories. The primary leaseholder. Lots of married couples use different names. The days when a woman took her husband's last name are gone and now it is a choice. Many women are professional in their own right and own name and many women just like to keep their "maiden name." Does this mean that Rick disapproves of the little woman retaining her "maiden name?" Does he disapprove of cohabitating couples? Same-sex couples? Could he be economizing on the great expense of labels? I can understand not having every member of a dorm apartment listed, but there still are non-dorm adults renting here.

Tuesday, March 31st, a longtime resident of 2 Stuyvesant Oval, David Cook, passed away. He had been ill for quite some time now (NOTHING whatever to do with flu, virus, etc.).

His wife and two sons were with him.

Our hearts go out to his family.

This place is owned and run by people who have absolutely no conscience, no decency and humanity. They are blood-sucking parasites, nothing more and nothing less. They probably ARE hoping that most of the seniors will keel over and die either from pneumonia or from contracting the Coronavirus as the result of having weakened immune systems. They really do want to empty this place of all long term tenants and only want tenants who sign a one or two year lease and then leave. I'm pretty sure they are planning to demolish the property.

Hayduk is not the owner of the property, but he is a unprincipled morally bankrupt weasel who does his Satanic Masters' bidding. It will come back to bite him in the ass. Karma is a bitch.

The screaming with whistles and horns like it’s a stadium is annoying enough - we don’t need the playlist of others blasting into our windows - everyone knows how to play the music of their choice - in their own dwelling - we don’t need public broadcasts

Rick should be a cruise director, not residential property manager. We need someone who will make sure the property is clean, safe and well-run and that we have adequate heat during the cold months. This is not a resort/camp where we need organized leisure and community events. We make our own "community" and always have done. At least before the property became a dorm/transient "community" that's the way it was. Neighbors knew each other, looked out for each other, some went on short vacations and fishing trips, etc., together. There were no organized sing-alongs and events and we didn't need them or want them!

If Rick would just stick to the job of being a good RESIDENTIAL property manager and acknowledge that he is no longer in the HOSPITALITY business, I think we would like him better. He screws up the things that are important to people living in a RESIDENTIAL community, e.g., taking down the directories and making a total fuck-up of putting them back up, failing to maintain a comfortable level of heat, safety and quietness so that we an enjoy our HOMES (as opposed to hotel rooms) and making sure we can walk through the property to our HOMES without risking being killed or maimed by speeding bicycles and making sure our buildings and elevators are safe and secure - secure as in LOCKED and without thieves roaming through them stealing packages!

The above describes the way most of us would like Rick to do his job. He could always get a job at a resort, cruise ship, senior-living community and do his entertainment and hospitality thing. We would be more than happy to have a Property Manager who focuses on the facets of residential living and treats us as rent-paying tenants and not guests.

I think Rick is a square peg in a round hole here and it's a shame because there can be very little mutual respect then.

It's no fun being a manager of a complex at this time, for obvious reasons. But when the virus and panic are over, other priorities take over. I don't think most residents will listen, really listen.... It will go back to the same old same old, with some minor changes....

Stuy Town Reporter said...

It is cold in my apartment. I'm sure that I am not the only one. I can take care of myself, but if I had a family living here, and particularly a baby or an old resident.... It is "curious" that for a time like this, there is no extra heat for residents in need....

Stuy Town Reporter said...

From the TA Facebook. A resident had this to say:

"There is something seriously wrong with management ignoring heating issues that so many of of us have to face. We have all been working from home for the last 3 weeks and they have not made an effort to make sure we are comfortable in our homes during this unimaginable time in all our lives. The elderly, the children and those with chronic illnesses need to stay healthy. Being cold and uncomfortable is not good for anyone now... getting a cold or pneumonia could be deadly for many people especially now..

"we want to stay healthy and safe. I've called RS has to be 3 or 4 times a week this past winter, I've even gone to meet with them yet still they do nothing. I'm convinced they just dont give a damn. That's the unfortunate truth. The coming weeks are going to be tough for everyone why wouldn't they help us with these heating issues?????? I'm furious!"

Anonymous said...

"...why wouldn't they help us...??????" Because their job is to maximize profits, and not to "help" anyone, much less everyone. Schwarzman and his lackeys like Hayduk are greedy sadists. It's really quite simple.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I don't know about sadists.... I can't see inside the soul of another person. Greedy? Certain things, yes. Profit, good company reports, etc.

Anonymous said...

Everything Rick and crew does is for profit. They will put more money into marketing and PR that will affect their bottom line than they will into figuring out the heating issues. Rick has made it clear a long time ago that he cares more about the paycheck then he does the health and well being of 30,000 people that live here. Only idiots believe his emails and communication are anything more than a charade for good PR.

Anonymous said...

Stuy Town Reporter -

Sadists: yes. And sociopaths, yes. I do not throw those words around lightly nor do I toss them out casually. Those who use those specific words (each of which has different meanings, and different characteristics) about people such as Stephen Schwarzman, Michael Bloomberg, Jeff Bezos, and others of their ilk are right on the money (pun intended).

This isn't the place to trot out the medical manuals which diagnose mental conditions such as those displayed by many (and these days, MOST) people "in power." Suffice it to say, sir, that these truly are exceedingly mentally, emotionally and psychologically lacking and ill creatures.

We got a brief, noisy puff of heat at around 6 AM. Lasted about 20 minutes, then went off.

Can't believe these inhumane assholes. Unbelievable. May they rot in hell - and the sooner the better.

Anonymous said...

As far as I'm concerned, today (Sunday - and a sunny fairly mild day) was scary and infuriating. TOO MANY JACKASSES OUTSIDE. PERIOD.

We are a GODDAMNED EPICENTER for this plague, and we've been warned to stay the hell inside unless we NEED to shop or perform some other vital action.

The virus likes humans.

We've been told that the way to END this terror is to stay the hell away from each other. Not just "social distancing" anymore, but STAY INDOORS if going out isn't necessary.

It was mainly young people, but not all. Most were with others. Some absolute morons were on bikes, Citi-sh*t or private.

No, we do NOT need to be outside "getting the fresh air," trying to deal with "cabin fever" and the like. While we have not been LEGALLY ORDERED to stay indoors, it's been made clear that if we want the deaths and suffering to end, we've got to stay put.

For five or five days now, I've been hearing more noise from total assholes outside at night, maybe even a skateboard or two. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND IT IS A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH NOW.

This is my own personal 19th day without stepping outside my own door. I don't like it, but I know I NEED to stay put for my sake, and for the sake of every other human being anywhere near here.

"Rick's "community sing-a-longs" border on the delusional.

Rick will do and say anything to deflect the one complaint we almost all have about this place: lack of heat. He turns a deaf ear and a blind eye and if he responds in any way to a complaint about lack of heat, it will be a very glib, dismissive response. He knows that we are cold and miserable and reduced to buying space heaters, which are not particularly safe, and he either doesn't care or he has orders "from above" to keep the heat down to the minimal level (or lower) that is legal. My six-year old suffers from a chronic health condition that is made worse by his being cold all the time. We have to keep a heater on 24/7 or have a lot of ER visits, which are not a good idea at this point in time. I have zero respect for this man. His own family doesn't live on the premises (or so I've heard) so he only has to worry about himself. This is a truly horrible place to live because of the heat problem and the general mismanagement. For some reason at this time, all outer doors are propped open and the wind is howling through the buildings! Is this a joke somebody is perpetrating or is this something "Management" has ordered? Leaving the doors open isn't going to blow the Covid cooties away; it's just going to make sick people sicker as it makes their cold apartments colder.

I hate to say it, but I think this "Manager" is somewhat mentally disordered because he does the strangest things and none of them do any good for the tenants. All of his ideas are strange and disruptive to the quality of life for people living here.

P.S. Can anyone tell me the definition of the word heat?

I dread my fridge going out at this time because the only food I have is in the fridge and can't get out to shop with all that's going on. Maybe they could give you a loaner until they can find a decent replacement?

8:48 PM yesterday: Little Ricky doesn't even have "to worry about himself." The sensors for his personal apartment have likely been permanently "adjusted," and a PS clown is undoubtedly posted outside his door 24/7 to avoid any possible "unpleasantness [for him]." Furthermore, he probably actually spends most nights elsewhere, in luxurious surroundings.

Whose "brilliant" idea was it to prop open the outer doors so that freezing cold wind comes into the buildings, up the elevator shafts and under the doors? Even with a draft towel Siberia comes under my door. What is this supposed to achieve, apart from making our consistently UNHEATED apartments even colder? Certainly doesn't make the fucking sensors kick in, does it?

This has to be the WORST-managed apartment complex in New York City. Maybe anywhere. The DUMB ASS who runs this place hasn't got an active brain cell in his smarmy head. We are fucking freezing and we are paying to live here. A three-sided bus shelter on a windy street couldn't be any colder.

If we had a Tenant Association that any balls, they would organizing a rent strike or revolution by now. All they do is ask for money! It's the one thing they're good at - asking, but probably not getting.

Maybe we could get up a petition to get rid of this Hayduk idiot and have someone with a brain and knowledge and desire to run a housing complex the way it should be run. I know he gets paid (no doubt overpaid) by Blackstone, but he is supposed to be working for the tenants. If everybody wrote to Stephen Shitty Schwarzman and cc'd the Mayor and the Governor, maybe he would be willing to pay some attention to this bonehead who is making this one of the most undesirable place to live in the entire City of New York!

Hayduk isn't worried about any of us getting the Coronavirus (except for himself). He's perfectly happy to cause us to get pneumonia, an illness that can be deadly to older people. Aaaahhh maybe there is method to his madness!

Anonymous said...

This is nothing new... all flyovers who move to NYC for a few years like to call themselves New Yorkers. Ricks head is so swelled in his made up mind of self-importance that he probably believes he is a quasi-ruler of this city.

You are totally wrong - he does not work for the tenants, he works for Blackstone and their shareholders. That is it. If we had a tenants association that did anything, they would be the ones working for us, but you need to stop telling yourself that a different property manager would be brought in to work for the tenants. That is just laughable. It’s the whole Blackstone operation, not just Rick.

A shithead who doesn't give us adequate heat when it is bitterly cold (as per the orders of his Satanic Master) is so solicitous of our health and spiritual needs. I can't go on. I have to go throw up.

Are all these faux amenities and Rick's paternalistic suggestions and sing-alongs factored into our rent? If they are, then I strongly object! I don't want to sing-along, do s'mors and snores, use their amenities, playgrounds, etc. I just want to live peacefully in my apartment (with heat in the cold weather) and never hear from Rick Hayduk about anything. Ever. I didn't elect to live here in order to have my life - social and spiritual - "enhanced" by this idiot. As I said, I just want to live here in peace and quiet (and heat when it is cold) and never, ever hear a word from the IDIOT who calls himself "Property Manager." My older neighbors who've been here for eons tell me that they never had such intrusions and gall from Bill Potter. They did have heat, safety and peace and quiet.

Go away, Rick. We don't want you. We don't like you. We don't need you. We were better off without you. When you left the resort/cruise industry I bet a lot of people breathed a sigh of relief.

It is so difficult to do any kind of shopping inthis neighborhood. Social distancing is not practiced in many stores. I finally made a trip to Target today after putting it off. An employee came right next to me to tell me that my self service kiosk needed updating. She had no face covering on. She could have shouted from six feet away or pointed to another one. I appreciate the employees serving us but the city needs to institute a law requiring all customers and employees to wear face coverings here as they did in LA. This is unacceptable. I go out twice a week and each time that I enter a store it is frightening.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Just an observation.... Though Gracefully has kept up their social distancing, the line outside (yes, there is a line) is a bit narrow when one passes, with the "garden" next to the curb, particularly the other day when a couple of customers on their line (formed by them next to that garden) made the space on the sidewalk even smaller.

Anonymous said...

I felt uncomfortable in Gracefully the last time I was there. Very narrow aisles though there is social distancing on the line.

Anonymous said...

I went down to Associated on Avenue C yesterday. No line to get in and they had a reasonable amount of stock. Short on some things, but not too bad. It's very "tight" in there, so social distancing is difficult, but there were not too many customers in there at the time. I was happy to see that a couple of the really nice cashiers from the 14th Street Association are working there. Glen is there too. He's a very nice guy.

Coping is as much as many of us can strive for at this point.

I see they have set up a City Harvest pantry in the old Associated space. Glad to see it is being put to some good use. Glad to see the outreach to those who are having a harder time than others. I still wish Rick believed in charity begins at home in the form of some heat being piped into our homes, but I'm pretty sure that ain't gonna happen because he has been trained to tell us the sensors ... blah blah blah. Even though it is in the low 50s outside, there is a freezing cold wind. Is anybody else uncomfortably cold in their apartment or am I the only one? I think that anybody looking to rent here should be given fair warning that we have a heating system that doesn't work most of the time and, when it does work, will only go up to 70 degrees which is not a comfortable indoor temp. Even outdoors when it's 70 you need a sweater unless it is very sunny. Some of us who are getting on in years really feel the cold intensely. Maybe Rick is trying to kill us off.

I don’t like Rick in the least bit and firmly believe he is not a person of high moral compass for choosing a paycheck over doing what’s right for the 30,000 tenants here, but for the 867th time, it is not just Rick. The entire Blackstone operation will stay the course as-is and the next person in charge will be exactly the same. They will choose the paycheck over the tenants all while telling us things are great and everyone lives what they are doing.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I called Resident Services. This noise coming from the apartment IS considered "essential." I have not heard this noise for a least a couple of months, so the people moving in are new renters who have recently gotten an apartment here. Essential.

>>I spoke to a person in charge a few days ago. She told me all renovations were ended.<<

I went online, and learned that a landlord needs to get a special permit, so maybe Stuy Town has now gotten it. But that city website is closed today for maintenance, so I couldn't go further. I, too, thought that renovations were ended by order. I was surprised this morning to hear the drilling, and spoke to RS, who confirmed that the renovations were essential.

The building is 522, btw.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The drilling has stopped for a while. To be seen, or heard, if it will continue.

Stand Up and Fight said...

STR - you and I know one another. If you want to, please call me about this. FYI:

I called Resident Services twice today because of the seriously cold conditions in my home, so cold that at one point I was wearing more than two layers of clothes. The second time I phoned, I started to get the run-around until I was able to sufficiently get through to the dear "representative" who attempted to help me.

And who, when asked, did realize she personally knows someone who died of the virus - the husband of a porter here. I think she might have said that the woman works here, too, and she mentioned "20 years" or more of working here. I was heartsick when I heard this.

And I will be thoroughly disgusted and worse if Rick does not name this Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper worker in memoriam very soon in his communications to us.

The renovations were another subject I raised, absolutely distraught over it, and citing literal life and death issues involved with some of these Blackstone behaviors. She said to me, "522," and that there had been a call about it, and it was being "looked into." She told me that only essential services are performed and intimated that the noise and work might have been related to an emergency REPAIR.

I have no way of knowing any facts, or truth here, but I wanted you and others to know that some of us are at least trying to look out for others as well as ourselves.

If you don't call me today, maybe I'll try reaching you in a bit.

Please take good care of you.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

BTW, the person I spoke to this late morning was a male. I don't have his name, but he was RS and said that any noise is permissible. I repeated twice for clarity whether the order from the Governor was being followed and he seemed to brush that order off because having an apartment ready for a new tenant and its noise were allowed. He said the work was "essential." He refused to give me the date when this new renter signed up. If it's just a matter of repair, that is a different thing, but that person should say so. I will change the front page when I find out what the word is, not from the Governor or the Mayor, but Management.

I can’t help but wonder if this whole situation is going to lead to a mini-exodus out of the city, at least the high-rise apartment living in Manhattan. Many of those who have the means and are paying more than a mortgage anyway may decide that they just want to get out of the confines of the tight quarters that city living brings. I would not be the least bit surprised if a lot of summer lease expirations just leave the city altogether.

If I were a betting man, I would guess that a lot of recent college grads who may normally move to NYC for a good paying lucrative job may think otherwise in the current state of affairs in this city, and those two factors combined will lead to a lot of vacancies. I’m also pretty sure NYU will see a smaller enrollment and a large number of transfers.

I wonder if it is possible that this Coronavirus could be germ warfare? It's spread so far and wide all over the planet and is so lethal. Don't usually go for "conspiracy theories," but can't help but wonder.

Anonymous said...

1:40 p.m.: My husband and some others I've spoken to believe that it is germ warfare, indeed. In this case, there is the military germ warfare theory, or the theory that at least some countries in the world do not want to finance older folks (via Social Security and the like), who are making up larger proportions of populations due to fewer children born these days.

I'm not saying no to any theory, be it ostensibly reasonable, or patently crackpot.

I tend, though, to believe that this is simply life/LIFE doing what it does. Humans have believed, in their pitiable stupidity, that they control, mold, regulate, change, create EVERY DAMNED THING. This species has a near impossible time understanding we are but one life form, and in no way equipped to avoid disease, death, and all manner of tragedies.

Viruses are crafty life forms which have developed sophisticated ways to live and provide for themselves. Bacteria, and viruses have been around for well over ONE BILLION YEARS, say scientists. Humans, and their ancestors, have been along for a tiny, teeny, teensy fraction of that time.

No, I don't want to leave any time soon courtesy of this present pandemic. I do, though, think that it is yet another of so many phenomena beyond our comprehension and hence: control.

Know that any apartment renovation work was being done with a signed lease for that apartment; we will work with those new residents to secure housing for them."<<

According to the email, apartment renovation is still being done because a new renter signed a lease. But when? RS doesn't want to say.

I don't want to get into politics and won't, but it seems that the Governor's mandate is followed in certain ways that are not acceptable. Seems. Of course, this is something "our" TA should be very concerned about. Are they?

"but it seems that the Governor's mandate is followed in certain ways that are not acceptable."

Please be more specific. My wife works on the front line as an essential worker.

What's "our TA" mean, STR?
Surely you jest!

Anonymous said...

That is a joke. The TA isn’t concerned about anything but their own existence as a fraudulent organization.

If that occurs, we will be filled with more city subsidized and tourists. They have pools waiting to fill this dump.

Each day brings a new mandate. Many kids are ignoring whatever mandate. Right or wrong, that's the way it is.

And thanks to your wife and all other essential workers.

It's all well and good for the Governor to say that everybody MUST wear a mask. I would like to know where the hell you can buy these masks!

Blackstone is so caring and so wealthy that these masks should be free and given to residents, either at Resident Services, the Community Center, etc.

STR, they would never do anything as big-hearted and life-affirming and life-saving as give us masks. But, what they WILL do is give us thermometers so that when are apartments are as cold as a Blackstone heart they can dicker with us over a degree or two and refuse to send up some heat. We have a good chance of catching pneumonia here (which can escalate and be deadly) and Rick-the SICK doesn't give a rat's ass, so don't expect them to give out anything that could SAVE OUR LIVES. They only give out items that can SAVE THEM MONEY.

There are no [printable] words that describe my contempt for Hayduk and his ilk.

Hammering away still at my building.
Still not a wisp of heat.
Rick the Sick is as phony as a three dollar bill.
Susan Steinberg is no where to be seen.
Perhaps they ran off together to Florida. Wouldn't that be a hoot?
We're all New Yorkers, right Rick?
How about forgetting about the condescending email blasts and doing something positive like giving out free masks to the residents?
Nah, that ain't gonna happen.
But do tell us when the next snacks and s'mores events is?
We can hardly wait...hahaha

I too have thought about that. It would be such a nice gesture for Beam to give out masks to seniors. Of course it is not going to happen . They would rather give out phony advice and bs in those nauseating emails Slick Rick sends out.

We have dog shit stains on the main floor outside the elevators for 3 weeks now but they have personnel to renovate apartments! Amateur hour!

Around 10:30 am, today, I heard drilling or cutting somewhere. Could be a tree, and not in my building that I know of.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I hear it again. It could come from my building. I don't think it's a tree!

It's 44 degrees outside and we have had no heat for the last two days. I am a senior with lung problems and have to keep the oven on to stay warm. I think the man who runs this place is an absolute monster. He pretends to be so caring, but he doesn't care if we die. He probably wants the seniors to die. He deserves to be arrested and put in jail.

What's with this new app? I don't like using anything they out out. Can't afford a new computer if their app fucks it up.

Hey, Rick, how about some masks, NOT s'mores and snacks??

I've been in the house since March 17th, but my doctor advised me yesterday to get out and walk as much as possible. So, today, I did.

"And what did you see on your walk, my dear?"

Around 5:00 in the afternoon - spring truly is here and it is lovely to behold. The air felt good. Not many people out at all.

AND: too many people without masks, including those speaking in loud voices on cellphones, most likely spitting into the air in their emotional expostulations.

Too many young children - every one without masks. Someone told me they'd heard a doctor's estimate that as many as 80% of children could be carrying the virus and be asymptomatic.

My very favorite: too many people around the fountain. SHUT THE ENTIRE AREA DOWN, BLACKSTONE. KEEP PEOPLE FAR AWAY FROM THE FOUNTAIN. IT ATTRACTS TOO MANY MORONS WHO COULD KILL THEMSELVES AND EACH OTHER AND US.

A "mother" who was responsibly wearing her mask was out there with a couple of young'uns (spelling?!). Her older, 10 or 11 year old boy might or might not have been wearing his mask. He was RUNNING AROUND ON TOP OF THE FOUNTAIN'S EDGE.

This is instant replay to last summer. BUT/AND IT IS POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE NOW INSTEAD OF SOLELY HER UNDISCIPLINED, UNPARENTED WILD SON. If that consummate jackass of a non-mother watched her kid slip and fall onto the bottom of the fountain and break some bones, or shatter his skull, someone would attempt to summon EMT's. They might not come, but probably would, and if they did, they'd be (a) exposed, perhaps to the virus, which would expose (dozens, hundreds, etc. more people) and or become ill and or die themselves.

When I was very, very young, I understood that most (all) of us have no business reproducing the species. It's gotten way worse. And, by the way, this was not a young mother. This looked to me to be another case of too-old-to-have-kids-but-I-want-them.

Yes, judgmental, but yes, possibly life-threatening to many, many, many people now.

The way it is Rick and PS are going to have a hard time closing off not only the fountain, but the entire Oval, which is where families go when they feel too stuck in their apartment. Kids will be kids, and though one can mandate to them to wear a mask if they are not social distancing, for some, perhaps, many parents at the Oval that is impossible.

The mandate is that you don't have to wear a mask if you are social distancing and not outside on a street with people or in a store. My perception is that one can be outside without a mask if you obey these rules. My perception could be wrong. I will find out soon enough, I think.

I am a bit concerned that people seem okay with social control.

My apartment:
No heat!
No heat!
No heat!
Rick Hydick, NO HEART!
No heart!
No heart!

The “mask rule” is unenforceable, and the governor and mayor know it. It’s just a way to get more people to wear them, there’s literally zero chance that you’ll see NYPD or State Police fining people.

I have no problem with stores requiring them, it’s their place of business, not mine, so I’ll comply. Just as if someone asked me to take off my shoes In their apartment, even though I walk around with shoes on in mine all day.

But outside, walking around? No thanks, that’s ridiculous, keeping your distance is safe enough.
