Kips Bay Ex-Con Arrested for Stuy Town Muggings

NY Daily News:

A brazen mugger who attacked two elderly men in Stuyvesant Town this month has been arrested, police said Monday.

Ex-con Henry Huggins, 51, was charged with robbery and burglary in the two crimes, which left one victim with a fractured shoulder.

Huggins is a career criminal with 11 prior arrests for robbery, forgery, selling drugs and criminal trespassing, among other counts, records show.

Huggins, of E. 30th St. in Kips Bay, was most recently released on parole in July after serving a sentence for grand larceny, according to the state Department of Correctional Services website.

Huggins is to be arraigned Monday in the Nov. 23 attack on William Shafer, 71, of Stuyvesant Town and the Nov. 3 mugging of a 77-year-old resident of the same Manhattan housing complex.

  1. Good work by the NYPD. No thanks whatsoever to STPCV "Public Safety," who was too busy guarding the illegal ice skating rink. No thanks also to CW and Rose who tried to deflect attention from these savage attacks by somehow getting the media to think the attacks took place in Gramercy. I bet the residents of Gramercy really appreciate that!

  2. This is good news for all, kudos to the NYPD!
Now the Stuytown safety officers can go back and concentrate their energies on keeping the ice skating rink free of hooligans,
And those undesirables who would steel the very ice, out from under our skates!

  3. Public Safety is a joke. Rose has managed to find every overweight, bald, mall cop in New York and give them a job as Pro Smart Phone Users. They wind themselves squeezing their portly bodies in and out of their jeeps so how they are expected to go running after a criminal is beyond me!

  4. The ice skating rink has so much security watching it you'd think it was a terrorist target. Overkill.

  5. Watching Public Safety in action is a bit like watching little girls play house.

  7. “Huggins was caught after Stuyvesant Town’s portly Public Safety officers accidentally trampled him on a Dunkin’ Donuts run!”

  8. More like "Pubic Safety" since they spend most of their time hunched over staring at their respective uniformed crotches. Or cell phones. Or just at the wall.

  11. Lets not blame the Stuytown Public safety officers. I do belive most of them are hard working employees trying to do a good job. I think the issues are still with their managment, CW and Rose.

  12. They need all that security at the rink because they heard I was going to dump handfuls of ice melting SALT on the ice every night!

  15. Ooooooooh! Red dye. Red dye! Perhaps they're right. Maybe the ice rink IS a terrorist target. OMG! I just had a thought: I might be a terrorist! You might be a terrorist! We might ALL be terrorists! Ooooooooh! Red dye. Red dye! Now THAT'S a delicious thought. All that security is just protection from the Red Scare. Obvs.

  16. More info on DNA Info. Huggins is going to be back in court on Friday, Dec. 2. His bail is $75,000. Let's hope he can't make it and that he goes away for a long time—at least until he's as old as his victims.
