A new photo series: Slum Town.  Should be self-explanatory.

  1. Great job, CW/Compass Rock. You guys really are a class act - so long as we're talking LOW class.

  2. THIS IS ANDREW MACARTHURS LEGACY. PILES OF GARBAGE FECES AND THONGS AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE. LAST NIGHT I WENT OUT TO SIT BY THE KAST TENAING GARDEN THEY GAVENT FOUND TO DESTROY SND THERE WERE COLLEGE KIDS DRINKING BEER FROM RED PLASTIC CUPS ABD DOING KEG STANDS AND WHAT DOES SECURITY DO NOTHING! ANDREW MACARTHUR HAS CREATED HIS OWN DISNEYLAND FOR ALCOHOLIC POT SMOOKING TRANSIETN SUBURBANITES! WHAT A LEGACY!

STR YOU'RE LUCKY YOU WEREN'T MAULED BY THE PACKS IF WILD PIT BULLS THAT ROAM THE PROPERTY EATING BURDS. 3. On this beautiful Sunday afternoon I see students walking through the property carrying their mattresses, lamps and sundry household furniture and entitled people are sunbathing on the fenced off grass spaces as though those spaces were cordoned off just for them. Dorm Town!

  4. 2:58.

wow. I know. It gets worse every 'season'. Every month, every year. I think they've won. I'll be looking for a new crib soon. This one is just gross now.

  5. It's too bad the lawns had to be fenced off in the first place but that's what happens when people forge paths through them rather than use the sidewalks. This is why we can't have nice things.

  6. I wonder if PCVST has gone too far down the sewer to ever be brought back to its nice clean and well-run old self? I'm sure it won't happen on CW/Compass Rock's watch, but we can always hope that it will be sold and a new management company that knows how to do the job will be brought in. I think the best thing that could happen would be that it would go co-op because co-op owners take pride in their homes and surroundings.

  7. ST has gotten progressively worse since it was sold. It will never get better. There's no undoing the students and transients who treat the place poorly. Last night I saw two young girls dumping a massive amount of cardboard in the hallway because they forgot the key to the carriage room. They never returned to clean it up because they assume someone else will pick up after them. Now multiply this logic by 15,000. It's heartbreaking to see how far Stuy Town has fallen.

  8. You should take pictures of the plastic recycling bins that remain outside the front door of many PCV buildings 10 MONTHS after Sandy, which regularly overflow with recycled garbage.
CW is no longer making ANY PRETENSE about fixing the basements by September which itself was an unacceptably long deadline to fix the basements. I think they have no intention of ever fixing the basements, in part, because we have let them get away with it.
CW is far worse then Tishman ever was and Tishman was no bargain!

  9. I suspect that CW Cap will buy this place and, since they only care about making money, this place will never recover. Pity.

  10. The Yelp reviews are pretty bad. ST insists on counter pointing every negative comment but its too late. The damage is done. Do your job right the first time. Jerks.

  11. I don't ever remember garbage ever be such an issue here. Is it a result of the transient nature here or the world in general.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Perhaps STR if you had chosen to show the depths to which ST has fallen, there would have been photos of the dog shit in the stairwells and elevators, condoms on the ground, and bags of rotting garbage left in the hallways and in front of the carriage room doors. Granted CW/Compass Cock are greedy, avaricious, despicable bloodsucking ghouls interested only in squeezing out every last nickel. But we must not forget the new class...or should I say classless...clods who have moved in without the slightest regard for neighbors and community. So sad how this place has deteriorated...
P.S. STR you do a GREAT job and perform a valuable service to all. Thank you!

  13. Oval Crapé has implemented a new $10 minimum for debit cards. Who the fuck do these people think they are?!?!! DD and Starbucks wouldn't think of doing this because NO ONE is going to spend more to meet the minimum. BLOODSUCKERS!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. You should upload these to management's photo contest.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I was thinking of that, but they wouldn't allow such photos online, I'm pretty sure.

  16. >>Oval Crapé has implemented a new $10 minimum for debit cards.<<

That could be against the rules of whatever CC processor they use.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, it's not against the law, it is now sanctioned by the law:

  18. Obviously Oval Cafe is not doing well, and needs to cut costs and get more sales in. I love seeing those people at the tables or inside, who spend most of the day there, with just a small purchase to "gain admittance."

  19. What happened with the petition for a rent decrease for diminution of services that was filed with the DHCR on behalf of the tenants who lost their laundry rooms, etc?
Also, I see on the TA FB that they are making someone pay MCI charges that were withheld under a PAR in one Lo sum. Isn't that illegal?

    ReplyDelete
  20. For the people volunteering STR for urban decay photography documentation assignments, here's a thought: take photos of your own building and email them to him. What a concept!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Petition before DHCR relating to diminution of services is still pending. DHCR moves very slowly and since they regularly side with landlords I don't hold out much hope for success to any meaningful degree.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "What happened with the petition for a rent decrease for diminution of services that was filed with the DHCR on behalf of the tenants who lost their laundry rooms, etc?"

You may recall that CW responded, whining about what terrible people we were to make this claim when so many lost their homes. We responded to CW's response. Our claim hasn't been settled yet and may go another round or two. Of course the laundry rooms and basements still haven't been restored, although new washers and dryers have been purchased.

  23. I was thinking of that, but they wouldn't allow such photos online, I'm pretty sure.

No harm in trying. I can't do it because I don't FB.

  24. One can only imagine what Andrew MacArthur has planned next. Perhaps, instead of doggie bag kiosks, he'll have boxes installed around the complex where people can pick up a fresh steamer and leave it on the ground! It couldn't smell worse than the mountains of horse shit he dumps on the loop roads and calls mulch.

  25. did you know escapestuytown is gone, no more? Do you know what happened?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anon at 936am
You state that new washers and dryers have been purchased?
Are you referring to the mini machines which were put in several months ago and which were supposed to be temporary? Or are you aware of the purchase of new machines which are appropriate replacements for those destroyed by Sandy?
BTW the "temporary" machines are junk and supposedly were Army surplus

  27. Someone should = YOU should. There is no someone.

    ReplyDelete
  28. If all the people who say "someone should" actually did what they were suggesting it would have a greater impact. But instead, they dump the bulk of this work on bloggers and wonder why they shut their sites down.

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's why they're called slacktivists. Big talk, little action. What, 10 people protested the leasing office over the mid lease rent hikes... and most of them were the always-looked-down-upon RS tenants? Good! Buh bye! Jerks.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ya know what, we do as much as we can with the little time and resources we have. I joined the protest outside the renting office, but I am a retiree and don't have a frenetic life any more. Seems there are more preachers on this blog than you would find at a Baptist convention. I appreciate STR and I wish I could do more to help, but there is a limit to my energy! The younger folks paying "market" rate woluld be better off moving to somewhere worth the money! The students are a pain, but what can we do?

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's always easier to sit on Facebook and bitch about shit than it is to get off your ass and actually do something. Thank you STR for your time and effort.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anyone who rents here is a masochist.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I was at the leasing office protest, more at the back entrance, but didn't hang around for more than, perhaps, 15 minutes because of time and job constraints. I joined, in support, the couple of people who were there. What struck me is that there may have been one or two "market rate" protesters present, but that's it. Most of the people affected by the mid-lease increase were absent. And you certainly didn't see a sea of those yellow "community not a commodity" placards in the windows of ST/PCV.

    ReplyDelete
  34. If you are a retiree minus a frenetic life you should have even MORE time to pitch in. What a terrible point you make. Turn off the telly and do something other than complain.

    ReplyDelete
  35. "If you are a retiree minus a frenetic life you should have even MORE time to pitch in. What a terrible point you make. Turn off the telly and do something other than complain."

What a horrible remark and what a terrible point you make. "Should have MORE time to pitch in." Who are you tell someone what they SHOULD do!? No wonder people don't want to get involved in anything around here when they are told what they should or should not do. You do your own thing and mind your own business.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'll take a preacher over a complainer. At least preaches are involved in their community.

  37. Unrelated, the TA has let troublemakers back on to their Facebook page, in particular, a Greenmarket shill who conspired to get rent stabilized tenants evicted over a disagreement on Facebook.

What is going on with the TA these days?

  39. Just a note that I am not letting through some of the more "vigorous" comments that are being carried over from battles on the TA Facebook page. I may decide to not let through any such comments in the future. Haven't decided yet. It's okay to comment on some of the more outrageous posts on the TA Facebook, but let's keep the personal battles out of this blog. Thanks!

  40. So sad, but StuyTown was done the minute so many got rent-jacked and mass evicted due to the Roberts deal the tenants were duped into accepting. You can stick a jackhammer in StuyTown, it's done. All that's left is for the bulldozers to start digging up the Oval so that Brookfield Properties can build their billion dollar condos to the moon, and so Ivanka Trump will finally have a nice cozy place she can call home.

In honor of what StuyTown could have been but at the hands of greedy landlords has sadly become, here are a few new, more appropriate names for the place, and they coincidentally all happen to rhyme with StuyTown:

    ImGonnaCryTown

    ItUsedToBeMyTown

    EatingSquirrelPieTown

    Why?Why?Why?Town

    ItWasANiceTryTown

    TrashPiledAMileHighTown

    BuhBuhByeTown

    SixGirlsInARoomWithAGuyTown

    StudentsGettinHighTown

    ItWasAllOneBigFatLieTown

    NYUMustDieTown

    TheRentIsTooDamnHighTown

Bye StuyTown, it was nice knowing you....

  41. Good news! The TA removed the green market shill / RS tenant eviction conspirer!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't have a Facebook account so I can't look at the TA Facebook, but I get the impression that a lot of melodrama goes on over there! Why on earth would anyone conspire to get anyone evicted? There must have been a good reason!

CAPS, if what you say is true about the people putting bodily fluids (putting it politely) down the garbage chute, then you should complain to Management (what a misnomer) and probably the Health Department too. Apart from being totally disgusting, that could seriously jeopardize the health of the employees who deal with the trash compactor and pose a serious public health situation for everybody. That is just too gross that I find it hard to believe.

  43. ARE YOU SERIOUS I CALLED PUBLIC SAFETY AND THEY SENT OFFICER FIVEDOLLARFOOTLONG OVER TO INVESTIFAT BUT THE STUDENT TOOK HIS BUCKET OF VOMIT BACK IBTO THE APARTMENT AND PUVLIC SAFETY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. I CALLED MAJGMT NEXT BUT GOT VPICEMAIL THEY'RE ALL BUSY ANYWAY I BET LINING UP TE KEGS FOR ALL OF ANDREW MACARTHURS NEW TENANTS WHO ARE MOVING INTO START A NEW SCHOOL YERS NOT SURE WICH IS WORSE THE VOMIT SELL THE SKUNK WEED SMELL OR THE AXE BODY SPTAY AND OLD SPICE I THINK IM GOING TO BE SIKC

  44. CAPS, if you are for real then I think you should video some of this stuff and send it to STR. He knows how to fudge faces to hide identities. Something like the bucket of puke should go viral. No pun intended. If you don't have a cell phone or smart phone, maybe you have a little video recorder? We could figure out the technicalities of getting it on the internet. Another thing, if these are students then their college needs to know about their behavior.
