Red Flags in a Yelp Post About PCVST

The Yelp page for Peter Cooper Village/Stuyvesant Town is typically overflowing with negative reviews, but here is a positive one.  But perhaps management might be concerned about a couple of red flags exposed by the poster....

As a dental student, PCV is a prime location to NYU College of Dentistry. My building is located on 23rd St & 1st, the school is located on 24th & 1st. You can see how close I am to school. I do agree with Lauren B. that the subway is a bit of a walk from this location but I also wonder why she lived so far to commute to work.

Sure PCV is about $2600/month for a one bedroom but you must also take into account the location, amenities and size of the apartment. PCV apartments are mansions compared to the standard NYC apartment. I live in a one bedroom apt shared between three others (yes, there are a total of four roommates and yes, we are each paying around $650 per month for rent!!). We converted the ginormous living area into another bedroom. The wall cost $1600 (split between four) leaving us a living room that's the size of a standard NYC apartment.

Hmm, what are the chances management's Legal Department will look into this?

  1. I don't think CW's Legal Department will look into it at all because they are just rent collectors. However, the FDNY and DOB might want to look into it.

  2. This jackass has to be kidding about his rent--it should be about $1,000 more. And it's still illegal for four unrelated adults to be sharing an apartment.

  3. Agreed. CW doesn't give a crap as long as they're pulling in the $$$.

  4. so is it fake? who gets a pcv flat for under 3,000?

    sublet?

  5. Eight people, with a dentist chair, would be a lot cheaper (throw in a couple pits to make it safe)!

  6. >>so is it fake? who gets a pcv flat for under 3,000?<<

It's a one bedroom, so it may be legit, depending on previous turnovers. Of course now it's used (illegally) as a four bedroom.

  7. The Roommates Rule was originally written to address the problem of overcrowded SROs and the kinds of petty criminal elements they attracted.

Nowadays, overcrowding is going on in regular apts all over NYC with rents so insanely high. Enforcement of the Roommates Rule is rare. City inspectors don't go door to door searching for violators, so it takes complaints from neighbors to result in violations. It's the landlord who's in violation, BTW. There's no specific penalty for violations, but tenants are evicted.

  8. That wall to divide up the living room may also be fire code problematic.

You are probably right, there, STR. But we know that CW/CR don't care about silly things like Fire Department and DOB codes. They violate them all the time and then lie to firefighters. Remember the riser pipes in the stairwells that they had to be pushed to rectify the inappropriate way they were installed with gaping holes all around them? They hire non-union, cheap contractors (who aren't above stealing from tenants) who no doubt hire the cheapest day laborers (just take a look at them) who haven't a clue what they are doing and endanger themselves and tenants. This management (if you can call them that) company has to be one of the sleaziest, dirtiest and most corrupt in the business. And we are stuck with them. It won't be until there is a major catastrophe here that something gets done about them.

  10. That dentist dorm Yelp review (checked the filtered reviews as well) seems to have been deleted?

  11. I don't see the review, either. I'm assuming the writer took it down after he was alerted to what he revealed.

  12. I know of apts in PCV where as many as 5 people are living. Really, who's doing anything about this? I'm sure 5 people are not on the lease.

  13. Since we are being inundated with MCIs, we may all have to put up walls and partitions and bring in a few room mates to share the rent! I'm thinking of renting out my bathtub as a luxury bed with close proximity to the toilet. Maybe I could put a cot in my kitchen and rent it as a deluxe studio with stove and fridge within arm's length?

  15. Not to worry. If anyone ever wants/needs to see it, I have a screenshot of the dentist's post on Yelp.

  16. We are being buried by MCIs, STR. They are very unjustified, if not downright bogus. Some of us are wondering how we will cope. I'm sure you got them too. Tuchman Speyer put in for these before they walked away from the property and left us up Shit Creek without a paddle. We are writing to Cuomo, but as he's owned by the Speyers, I don't hold out much hope for any intervention on his part. I am so sick of the bloodsucking and
corruption we are being subjected to.

  17. They are doing more "inspections," looking for who knows what. I think they are doing these repeat inspections on older people's apartments. Maybe they are hoping to have an excuse to bring in Adult Protective Services and have the tenants evicted. Whatever it is, it is just bloody harassment. I haven't had these inspections (apart from the bogus "looking for illegal walls" inspection), but my elderly neighbors are being pestered by them all the time. I suspect that they like to go after the people who are on SCRIE. Bastards!

  18. I do have to wonder if we are being hit with these now purposefully before De Blasio takes over as mayor.

  19. "I do have to wonder if we are being hit with these now purposefully before De Blasio takes over as mayor."

You could well be correct in that, STR. We need Cuomo to step up to the plate. If he doesn't, he can forget about my vote if he every runs for President, Dog Catcher or anything else. Some of these pols should take a lesson from what happened to Quinn. She was so sure she was gonna be Mayor and look at her now. Hopefully, she will disappear and never be heard from again - something I'd hoped would happen to the Giuliani lackeys, but we have Loathesome Lhota pushing his luck.

Have you reported this via 311? You can do so anonymously. Get anyone else you can to file a report too.

  21. CWCapital won't do anything until someone dies. And even then they'll say the death took place in Gramercy. Or "that didn't happen!" AirBnBedBug is full of Stuy Town apartments. The situation was under control until the the stroller mafia ran the Facebook activists off the TA page. Volunteers doing good work chased off. Tsk. Tsk.

  22. @1:28PM ".....We need Cuomo to step up to the plate .......Quinn.... something I'd hoped would happen to the Giuliani lackeys, but we have Loathesome Lhota pushing his luck....", etc. etc.

There are other issues that I am concerned about besides my rent (and yes, I am very concerned about the rent and the MCIs). Suppose DeBlasio wins and suppose he can/will do something about the rent/mci situation; and suppose the city goes down the tubes because of a host of other things that DeBlasio also will do...

  23. Just wanted to share that they're hard at work on the skating rink this Sunday AM. Started about 9 or so. Table saws, equipment crashing, general construction mayhem just a dozen floors down, but loud and clear in my apartment. Why is it that whatever noisy jobs the workers do they love doing the nosiest ones 1st thing in the morning? Blow the leaves? Can't wait to get to that!

That goes double for Con Edison. They probably figure if they have to be up and about, everyone else should be too.... especially weekends.
