Stuy Town is Now Shit Town

Pardon the bluntness, but it needs to be said and it needs to be that shocking.

This morning I took a walk from the Oval to 23 Street, through Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village. As I walked I came across five areas of dog turds or dog turd splats (dog turds already stepped on). Five. And I didn't deviate from my walk, so I wasn't walking through the many other areas of the complex.

Here's the evidence:

To make matters worse, two reports came to the TA Facebook that HUMAN TURDS were left in the lobby of a building and in an elevator.  Yes, human shit.  And today we received a report of a plastic bag filled with stinking shit of some kind left in the stairwell of a building.

This is what living here has come to. We are overwhelmed by dog shit and human shit.  I've walked through the projects on the Lower East Side and haven't come across the amount of shit laying on the ground as I've come across here. And now we have people taking a crap in lobbies and elevators.

To you who are newbies to ST/PCV, let me assure you that Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village was NEVER like this. NEVER. And a message to the person who thinks the rain cleans it all away.  Perhaps if it were a deluge, but otherwise it turns turds into mud pies, as I've seen when passing one of the areas above after the rain in the afternoon.

Congratulations, CWCapital and CompassRock, on a splendid job excellently done!  You surely must be proud of the way you are managing this complex.

UPDATE 9/14, Sunday Morning:

On the east side of the 20th St Loop, this morning.  I guess this is what some dog owners consider "curbing your dog"... on the sidewalk...  Of course, the law requires a pick up of these turds.

  1. As Compass Rock and CWCap seem to like shit, seeing as they allow so much of it, maybe we should package some up and send it to them.

  2. When you have 6 kids living in a one bathroom apartment what do they expect. What a filthy, disgusting, slum horror Stuy Town has become under Andrew MacArthurs watch.

  3. I assume Compass Rock can now charge us an additional fee ie. MCI for cleaning up human and dog feces. Why not? The hits just keep coming str.

  4. Had a luggage cart with my soft, cloth bags on it , as I was going away for the weekend. Looking forward to a nice get away. Well, I inadvertently rolled my cart over some dog turd. Of course the cloth bag was hanging over the side of the luggage roller & guess what- the bag went right on & through the sh-t !!!! I was sick. Had to go back upstairs & clean the bag & repack in another bag. Disgusting !!!! What has happened here is unreal. It is becoming a slum. No enforced rules. Dogs have taken over every grassy area. No one seems to be in charge. No one cares. Sad state we are in here in PCVST .

  5. There is a basic level of maintenance that is lacking here. We pay for luxury level maintenance and cleanliness but we aren't even getting a basic level of property services. For the rent we pay, the management here should be keeping the grounds pristine. Or at the very least, clean. Our laundry room is dirty, recycling area is dirty, walkways are dirty. The poorly kept grounds are the fault of poor management and operations.

  6. Seeing more of this in PCV too. Disgusting.

  9. For the rent we pay? I have a 2 bedroom 2 bath in Pcv less than 2k per month. t is a good deal for me. Not complaining.

  10. And for the record, cr loves these posts. They are more than thrilled to hear the complaining, the garbage, the insults hoping we all move out of here by 2014. i'm not moving cr.

  11. Well, the fetid student slobs are back and they are dumping their oozing garbage bags outside the carriage room door. From now going forward, I have no intention of going anywhere the carriage room. Everything goes down the chute. Why give porters extra work when they have to constantly clean up after these filthy fucks who are used to having mom shovel their shit?

New tenant here - basically wondering why i'm paying more than an ad you just placed for about 20% of rentals here. And why I'm paying $3,000.00 more than the tenant who moved out in July. Per month, $3,000 more per month. Is this legal anyone?

I basically agree, but there was a time (before the filthy people) when we paid that rent and had a beautiful home. Being a pig wasn't an option. On the other hand, yeah, it's over and it's probably time to move on out of the projects: great rent or not.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The buck stops with Compass Rock. They are not cleaning walking paths or enforcing rules.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Lmao - no way is anyone moving who has a great rent in this city. we won the lottery years here, you didn't.

I get that this place is not what it used to be, but moving out of a two-bedroom two-bath in PCV for less than 2K a month? That's just insane.

  18. Bag them and drop them off in front of the leasing office!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm a moron? you're paying 3x as much as me and you're here. Tool.

    ReplyDelete
  20. YES LET'S BAG THE DOG SHIT AND GATHER IT UP FOR THE LEASING OFFICE DROP OFF.

    OMH, WHAT A GREAT IDEA.

  21. 2p. Best idea ever.

  22. The condition and cleanliness of the property is a reflection of the management company. Hire this management company and this is the condition of the property you will receive.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Public Safety - Just my two cents. They are nice and responsive. if you have noise issues, running, bikes you don't want in your hallway, you can call them and they will come and remedy. Last few days, kids running all over our ST hallway, playing baseball IN THE HALL, security came and apparently they will issue fines if it's repetitive.

  24. Met knew that once you let dogs in, even though most people would be considerate, there would be enough slobs who wouldn't clean up afterward and won't give a shit if their dogs yapped to general distraction. I know this isn't an action-oriented group, but if you'd consider yelling at your neighbors who don't clean up, it might have an effect. I've done this before. Guaranteed you'll get flak back, so you just have to steel yourself & give it to them just like you're shooting a criminal because that's how they come back at you. Otherwise, you can expect more of the same.

  26. If you're going to send dog shit somewhere, best recipient would be Robbie Speyer, whose bright idea it was to allow dogs in ST/PCV.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hey Steve, I think you found your calling with your latest post!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Robbie should be force fed what we're all seeing on our formerly clean grounds. But this management isn't enforcing anything.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Now that is one big load of crap!

    ReplyDelete
  30. There are many communities with dogs that are properly staffed with porters and groundskeepers that keep those properties clean. The problem is not the dogs. It is the piss poor property management maintaining an unsanitary living condition in our carriage rooms and walkways. Compass Rock needs to run a clean and sanitary property or we need to find a way to register the unsanitary conditions that will get them to clean up. Anyone know how or who we register with?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Please don't blame the porters. We have one porter who has to take care of many buildings. I took my recycling down his morning just before 8 and I couldn't believe the absolutely overwhelming load of garbage this guy has to take away. It included huge cardboard packing boxes, furniture of difference sorts, baga and bags and bags of mysterious stuff; oodles of oozing trash bags and each recycling bin was full to overflowing with miscellaneous mixed garbage.
Of course a load of frat boys moved in yesterday with all their crap in a U-Haul truck and I think some other gaggles of students moved in around the same time. Front door pinned open all day. THIS IS A DORM. A DIRTY, ROTTEN, UNSUPERVISED DORM WITH NOBODY TO PICK UP AFTER THE STUDENTS' SHIT WHEN THEY MOVE IN AND OUT - as well as all the garbage they strew around during their tenancy.

    ReplyDelete
  32. "The problem is not the dogs."

The problem is the dogs. No dogs, no dog shit. Duh. Even if the owner picks up, there may be residue, unless the dog guarantees that what it extrudes will be firm, not sticky, and will jump into the bag by itself.

As for the other lack of cleanliness and tidiness, why expect a so-called management do better than they do with feces?

    ReplyDelete
  33. WHAT A JOKE! Just like everything else around here. TA's been awfully silent lately.

  35. TA is gone. left us. long ago. Ita, they have not made one sound in months.

    Very suspicious and telling.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don't blame porters either. This is a nightmare of a job and they should demand better from their employers.

But if they do and they ask for more help, more $, they'll just pass it on to the tenants in the form of an mci. Par.

Nice attitude. How very neighborly of you.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nobody blamed the porters. They blamed the management. The management needs to hire adequate number of porters and groundskeepers for the size of the population and property. Plus now with dorms there are thousands more move in and move out each year that brings a lot of trash being disposed. We clearly are not properly staffed.

  40. 9:07 management won't hire anyone as they won't pay for anything here that they don't have to. Next it will be our lights and our water. You and I will be paying an Mci for it. How about a post on this STR. Be very afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Now I know that it's wrong! However why can't maintenance clean it up? Or should we all huddle around it, document it, glossy 8 x 10's, first hand accounts?
You people are turning into the live action "Alice's Restaurant"
For you young folk, look up on iTunes Arlo Guthrie, and ask yourself are you Officer Opie?

  43. Some people will put up with anything for a decent rent. I wonder if that PCV apt. is renovated. Does the guy work in Manhattan, how old is he? In time he'll get neighbors that drive him insane with blasting music and clicking heels and barking dogs and I wonder how long he'll stay. This "community" is disgusting now - picture it in 5 years. Higher rents, MCI's etc. etc.

I pay under $1200/month for a one bedroom in ST and have reached the point of no return. I get giddy thinking about not having to put up with this stuff for onemore day (hour/minute)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Our porter Desmond, at 635 E. 14th always does an excellent job of cleaning up after the absolute pigs living in this building. The post on 9/15 was exactly the condition of our recycling area Sunday night.
    Absolutely disgusting
He has more than one building and is always friendly and pleasant.
    Management please note.

  46. Chuck anything and everything that will not break the compactor down the chute. When these bastards start getting fined by Sanitation, maybe they will consider weighing in on the student slobs. Unless, of course, SDNY is another city agency on their payroll.

    ReplyDelete
  47. nah, they'll just pass the fines onto little old us. We're losing this.

  48. 1:51 that poster will never leave and neither will you or me.

Even though we live in an actual, confirmed and verified college dorm, i'll just keep my low rent, travel, get a vacation home, travel, get a roommate to foot my bill - yes, i will and my lease allows me to have one, two , maybe 3 roommates. Hell I might even end up making money on it.

Good luck to you. Please make sure your half a dozen or so roomies obey the rules, such as they are.

I, on the other hand, also intend to say here, though I won't be traveling much and definitely won't be getting any room mates or a country abode. This is my home of 34 years and it is more than just an apartment unit, it is my HOME and I intend to stay. It's very unpleasant at times since it became a shitty dorm (literally), but I will not let them drive me out of the home that I love and cherish.

  50. 8:26pm: no way they can do that.

  52. Dogs aren't allowed on the grass, so they have to go to the bathroom on the sidewalk. And unless you are an alien, I'm sure you have some messy excretions that would not be easily picked up with a baggy. If you want things to be cleaner, get on the side with the dog owners who want a space specifically for dogs to go - a relief area, if you will. You get pissy about them being on the grass you never use, and are horrified when they use the sidewalk. I'm sorry you are so appalled they are allowed, so either you accept it or you leave.

  53. Another day in life, "in the projects". A lot of low class individuals living here. Not what I expected.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Dogs DO NOT BELONG HERE!
That's why that rule was put here in the first place!(and I have only been living here for 8 and 1/2 years.) The ONLY reason it was changed was to lure new tenants into this complex.(Not the incentive in which I chose to live here.) The quality of life around here has undoubtedly changed. The list goes on and on and on and on...................

    ReplyDelete
  55. Get on the side of the dog owners!! and under whose windows are you thinking of putting a dog run?
Dogs should never have been allowed in this "community" in the first place. We have one
"neighbor" who laves the dog alone for most of the day. The dog throws itself at the door, cries, barks etc. 311 has been notified twice and letters were sent to them. the complain they don't have the money to pay a dog walker.
Guess it's time to call the 13th Pct but I can't really see them coming over on a dog complaint.

  56. Re those turds on the ground: Oval Cafe serves them up with eggs and toast and calls them sausages. They also put them between a long roll with a splash of mustard and relish and call them hot dogs. Most people don't realize until they get home and start puking.
