Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.

Was the New Management Office (Still Not Completed) Really Necessary?
http://www.thelodownny.com/leslog/2015/01/task-force-begins-planning-for-335-million-east-river-flood-barrier.html
No. Something is always up their sleeves.
ReplyDeleteRemember that the "TA" enabled and approved this, along with their Golden Boy Garodnick. We need to hear more about Garodnick's sneaky changing of the noise permits in order to allow more noise and demolition/construction after hours.
ReplyDeleteW.C. Fields was right...there's a sucker born every minute...
ReplyDeleteThere has to be a reason (if it is even True) that DG would approve. Come people. THINK.

Once again: that's bullshit. CWC didn't need Garodnick or the TA's help to build that POS in my back yard. All they needed was the approval of city agencies and they got it.

Will you please knock it off with the lies and misinformation? There was nothing that could have been done to prevent this from happening. CW is in charge here now, not the TA or Councilman Dan Garodnick, and the Department of Buildings approved the new Management office.
This blog is too full of absurd, untrue, inflammatory statements like this one that turn me and other readers I know off. STR, you're not doing yourself any favors by allowing these kinds of ridiculous comments.
"There has to be a reason (if it is even True) that DG would approve. Come people. THINK."
ReplyDeleteIt's simple. The reason Garodnick and the TA did nothing is because Brookfield wants it.
>>This blog is too full of absurd, untrue, inflammatory statements like this one that turn me and other readers I know off. STR, you're not doing yourself any favors by allowing these kinds of ridiculous comments.<<
ReplyDeleteThese are comments on a blog, not the blog postings, which are by me. I leave off some comments that cross a line, but if I start leaving off comments that may be problematic or not reflect my opinion (or yours), I may as well give up and make this into a one-voice comment section. Perhaps I shouldn't allow comments? Or just let those pass you may approve of? Let me know. You could be the dictator here if you want the job.
Seriously, how many times do I have to state that the comments here do not reflect my opinion just because they are passed by me? People have a right to a debate, and people can be called on their comments. We have all sorts of comments from a variety of readers. Readers are adult enough, I assume, to make up their own opinions about each comment. Unless, we want a dictator here.
Oh, and if you are put off by the comments (or some of them), why not just read the blog posts and not enter the comment section? Simple solution.
ReplyDeleteAs for the TA and Garodnick "approving" the construction of the management office, it's very true that CW doesn't need their approval. However, the TA and Garodnick have been lousy at dealing with the issue of construction in the complex, not only with the management office but elsewhere. There should have been many protests over the noise, weekend work, etc. Do something, damn it! Instead the TA and Garodnick are hoping the place turns condo. That's it. That's been their number one game plan for years now. And the tenants are suffering for it.
ReplyDeleteDG and the TA are the only advocates we have and they are performing admirably. A chorus of contrarian do-nothing contribute nothing.
ReplyDeleteThe CWC TA and Garodnick were clearly pro-construction on the office building in their rhetoric, actions, and inaction. That is not inflammatory -- it is fact.
ReplyDelete>>There should have been many protests over the noise, weekend work, etc.<<
ReplyDeleteDid you really say that, STR? The meeting that the TA sponsored about the new office had more CWC reps and TA board members in attendance than tenants in affected buildings. It was pathetic. And the TA couldn't get people here to protest mid=lease rent increases and you expect them to throw another protest that no one will bother to show up to?
The conversion had zero to do with the TA/Garodnick response to something they had absolutely no control over other than to request an audit, which the city did.
You have no problem piping up to ridicule comments that assume a tenant buy-out is possible, but let such obvious lies like January 15, 2015 at 12:13 PM sit out there like a dog turd near the Oval fountain.
Always someone on the "take".
ReplyDeleteReally shady!
Wow. That Office Building is AWFUL. What a scam.
ReplyDeleteWhen a rental property goes into foreclosure (even when the owner can afford to but willfully chooses not to pay the mortgage payment) the first act by a decent honest politician should be to call for the powers that be to freeze all tenant rents and cease all tenant evictions so during the foreclosure process and sale, the tenants are not victimized; forced out of home; forced to pay owner's debt.
That is the example NYC and NYS should have made for the country on how to handle foreclosures of rental properties.
Especially with the enormous rental-housing stock PCVST former owners BlackRock and their ilk amassed from the fallout of housing crisis.
It is grossly disturbing that the Rent Roll went from $242,420,000 in 2007 to $336,970,000 in 2013 (almost $100Million more)... jumped another $20Million to $356,310,000 (1Q 2014).
From 2007 to 2014 Rent Roll increased 47%, $113,890,000.00
There are a lot of people severely damaged, lives uprooted, to get BUSINESS numbers like that in that short of time.
Instead of implementing policy to protect NYC residents, by freezing rents and ceasing evictions during landlord rental foreclosures, the NYC politicians and City agencies evicted thousands of PCVST families, replaced them with dorms, built a strip mall and an office building that yes, Brookfield wanted to.
The entire country should see this monumental failure of already deemed Poster Child for the Housing Crisis by NYC and learn what not to do in the upcoming Rental-Housing Crisis.
(thank you to the earlier commentator for the financials)
Yes 4:21 and Dan declared he worked closely with DOB on the oversight of this. And if you were at that joke of a staged meeting with DOB you had to see the greasy corruption oozing from them all.
ReplyDeleteStop with the lies. We know the truths.
ReplyDeleteOf course most didn't show up for the fake TA Board/Dan management office meeting.
We don't need a TA Board and Councilman that "sponsors" meetings especially when that was staged to expose tenants who are opposing and quash their efforts. The performances by CW DOB Dan TA were laughable.
We need a TA Board and Councilman that loudly leads the protest at meetings.
And yes, the TA can't get people to follow them on mid-lease increases and the office meeting BECAUSE people won't follow who and what they don't believe in.
We have been given many reasons not to believe in the words of the TA Board and Dan.
The TA Board and Dan fought for and defended the management office building and Dan is in the press defending the strip mall in the Oval saying "well its legal".
The PCV ST staged events, the mid-lease protest was the same trick as the affordable housing rally on city hall to make the Politicians and the TA Board look good while promoting the Paul Weiss deal.
That mid-lease protest was about setting Dan up as a hero, to write a letter to the NY AG to address the Roberts settlement term that should have been off the table in the first place.
re to the comment
"Did you really say that, STR? The meeting that the TA sponsored about the new office had more CWC reps and TA board members in attendance than tenants in affected buildings. It was pathetic. I wouldn't follow this TA Board if my life were depending on it.
Disgraceful.
6:14 no one goes to your meetings and midlease increase rallies because they are as fake.
ReplyDeleteFake Staged events to set the politicians up to look like heros for the working class while they are really undermining the community and helping RE in what is the shadiest RE deal of this and last century.
As fake as asking STR to remove a management office blog post that had a photo rendering and pretend it never happened so Dan can write a letter to Andrew Macarthur asking for a photo rendering of the management office and be a power hero that makes the big bad Andrew do as Dan says.
Dan and Andrew coordinated efforts but a lower level management worker hung the photo on the construction site and STR posted it on his blog before Dan wrote his hero letter and Andrew kindly replied with the photo.
A fake and a phony pr created hero scenario for Dan and Andrew.
This community is not stupid and will not blindly follow or fall for PR trickery.
Somebody posted this back in December and I would like to know if it is really true:
ReplyDelete"At Christmas this year I am reminded how it always bothered me that after being rejected, Dan overturned the rejection to get the office building construction permits over the Christmas holiday week last year while some were out of the office at the DOB. Dan did not have the power to do this alone, but with his allies now coming forward it seems clear it was at the urging of them the DOB gave permits to what should have been flatly denied."

Now, Now. We know that is not true on both counts, don't we now....
"There should have been many protests over the noise, weekend work, etc."
ReplyDeleteABSOLUTELY RIGHT!
"..the TA/Garodnick response to something they had absolutely no control over other than to request an audit, which the city did."
ReplyDeleteJanuary 16, 2015 at 6:14 AM
They did an audit? That is good to know. Why don't you publicly post the audit results for tenants to read?
I am sure a lot of people would like to see a DOB audit on the construction of the PCVST management office.
"The meeting that the TA sponsored about the new office had more CWC reps and TA board members in attendance than tenants in affected buildings. It was pathetic"
ReplyDeleteOf course it did!
What is pathetic is thinking tenants in this community are so stupid we would go to your CWC rep / TA board member meeting and let you throw a load of crap at us.
We know the truth and have no interest in or need for hearing the lies.
That you're still complaining about not getting to give your statements, speeches and spin because we didn't come to listen is getting tiresome.
I guess people are not interested in what you have to say.
People are interested in what people do, not what they say.
No. The new management office building is unnecessary and possibly a tie for the second biggest assault on the property with the first being the arboricide and the other close second the Oval circus strip mall.
ReplyDelete"DG and the TA are the only advocates we have and they are performing admirably..."
ReplyDelete... for Brookfield, not for tenants.

ReplyDeleteI live in one of the buildings affected and got a notice under my door about that meeting and so I went to find out what the hell was being planned for my backyard. Exactly one other person from my building bothered to show up. There were maybe 12 more regular residents there from the other buildings affected. I was a hostile questioner, one of the few actually.
Now I'll tell YOU what's pathetic. What's pathetic is thinking that most tenants in this community are interested in doing anything more than complaining and spreading lies on a blog. Show me otherwise. Like you said, people are interested in what people do, not what they say.
1:51 you are wrong in your perception of your neighbors. I live in the Oval and I can tell you a lot of neighbors on the First Ave Loop did a lot of work there and here in the Oval. They and we are not doing it for show unlike others who are putting on shows. No tenants need to show you or me anything. But the TA does need to because that is their job. They are not doing their job.
ReplyDelete@ 6:32 PM I'm not buying it. I live on the First Ave loop and am not aware of any organized effort by neighbors to try to stop construction of the new mgmt office. But maybe that wasn't the point of the group. if not, what exactly did your group accomplish or attempt to accomplish with regards to the mgmt office? Or anything else?
ReplyDeleteBTW. Stuytownbigdig gets an A for effort for trying to keep CR honest during construction, but I'm doubtful it actually had any impact at all.
Peter Cooper helped too! Love you First Ave Loopers and Ovalers!
ReplyDeleteSo many good posts last week. When I have more time to I will read the old posts on this monstrous ugly absolutely unnecessary waste of money office building and I will go check out this disgusting destruction of open space. I remember walking through, the trees and grounds looked and smelled spectacular with flowers and tallest of trees on the property.
