There's a current discussion on the TA's Facebook about the dog rules in Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village. The comments are all correct. The bottom line is that Public Safety can't or won't enforce the dog rules. Everyone who is awake in this community knows this. Either PS has been told by management to turn a blind eye to:
1) Dogs over the weight limit
2) Dogs that are banned in ST/PCV
3) Dogs that have no proper ID tags (in most cases, dogs coming in from outside with their owners)
4) The number of dogs a tenant is allowed
...or PS just doesn't have the manpower to clamp down on the many infractions of the dog rules I see here continually.
About the only time I see a Public Safety officer approach a dog owner is when that dog is in the Oval Fountain area--if there is a Public Safety officer around and if he's not looking at his cellphone in the nearby guard booth.
Just recently I've seen a dog sniffing around in the no-dog area where the Greenmarket is held and a Public Safety officer was standing not far away, looking, but did nothing. And forget about the Security booth at the 1st Ave entrance to Peter Cooper Village. The PS guys inside see, or should see, dogs being brought in from outside and they do nothing.
So what's the deal, Chief?
They should call it the brown market! I put my back of veggies down for a second and when I got home noticed feces got on it. The situation is out of control. These days it's so demoralizing to live here with between the abusive management and the lack of solid community advocates. My only option is to move.
ReplyDeleteI think the dog owners who let their pets defecate in or around the Oval are true model citizens. They should be applauded and honored...perhaps even a rent reduction.
ReplyDeleteWhat angers me are the clods who are too lazy to bring their beasts outside. They let their pets do their business right inside the building!
Nothing brightens my morning more than entering the elevator to a pile of freshly laid sh*t. Ah, the pungent aroma. Love the way the feces stick to my shoes.
And is there anything finer than to bound down the stairs deftly sidestepping the excrement ( and bags of garbage, beer cans, used condoms ). The tranquility of Stuy Town is only enhanced by the constant howling of the 110-pound bull mastiff alone all day in the apartment next door.
The humanity of it all. Ya' gotta' laugh...or cry.
The Health Dept should be notified about the the feces at the brown market. I wouldn't buy anything there.
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS ALLL COMING FROM ABOVE. THEY DON'T WANT TO ROCK THE BOAT. THERE ARE SO MANY DOGS COMING IN TO PCV THAT THERE IS NO WAY THE PS DOES NOT SEE IT. THE INTRUDERS DON'T EVEN TRY TO HIDE IT. THE GRASS IN PCV IS A MESS. THE DOGS ARE RUNNING THE SHOW -THEY GO WHEREVER THEY WANT. THE ONLY DECENT LAWN IN PCV IS NEAR THE FOUNTAIN. HMMMM -I WONDER WHY. COULD IT BE THAT NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON THAT GRASSY AREA? WHY BOTHER HAVING THE GRASS SEEDED & FERTILIZED? WASTE OF $$$. THE DOGS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE GRASS . ALL DOG OWNERS MUST BE TOLD TO WALK THE DOGS OUT IN THE STREET. REMEMBER"CURB YOUR DOG"???! I KNOW SOME DOG OWNERS WILL SAY THAT THEIR DOGGIES CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE CURB. BUT , IF THEY SEE THESE RULES ARE ENFORCED, THEY WILL EVENTUALLY COMPLY. IT TAKES TIME. THE ENTIRE COMPLEX IS A MESS .VERY SAD STATE. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE.
ReplyDeleteWoW... glad I left in 2011 after 11 years
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for dogs with bad guardians, owners who are not obeying community rules, not considerate of neighbors, not getting rugs and not caring for their dogs by picking up after them and by leaving them scared and alone all day.
ReplyDeleteThese type of people make for lazy and bad parents of pets and of human children.
The beer bottles, pee and trash in the stairways is from humans not dogs.
The resident teens, the partying college students visiting and dorming here, and illegal short term "subletters" for weekend or week leave trash in stairways because they do not have a key to recycle area, they are peeing in stairways because the party only has one bathroom for fifty people, and leave beer bottles because the party isn't confined to the dorm but extends into stairways.
Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town is an unsafe neighborhood of transients.
Our floor is lucky, the dogs are friendly, owners responsible, families have studious kids and so far no dorms but a neighbor has a lot of carry-on luggage "guests" coming and going with a door left unlocked for them and they do not have the key to laundry / recycle room either. "Guests" throw everything in the chute.
Humans that have dogs over weight limit, humans that have dogs banned in ST/PCV, humans that have dogs that have no proper ID tags and humans that ignore number allowed are the problem.
Taking it out on dogs will not solve the problem but holding humans responsible for their actions will.
That includes the management regularly hosing down walkways. Its not like porters are overworked and couldn't take on responsibility of hosing walkways in front of respective buildings.
Property management Compass Rock is responsible for the brown veggie bag because they are not instructing grounds workers and porters to hose stoops and walkways.
That should be a law. Landlords fill more vacancies by allowing pets, making more profits and should be required by law to keep properties safe and clean.
Seems Compass Rock enjoys profits without responsibility that goes with it.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there a site you can report it on, 311 or something for the health dept.?

If / when Preet removes Cuomo we will need a new person and not a Cuomo blessed replacement. Hochul is not good for NY. New Yorkers should demand anti-corruption platform candidate Teachout!
I said it before and I'll say it again. MET LIFE had very good reason for not allowing dogs here. We live in a city, and not in the suburbs. It's bad enough we live soo close to our next door neighbors, but throw in these thousands of dogs, and it's a recipe for disaster, as you can see. There is dog shit all over the place. DOGS DO NOT BELONG HERE! And public safety could give a shit as well. NOBODY CARES!
ReplyDeleteThis is how corrupted and f**ked up NYC politicians are. Trump golf course for the world's richest in the poorest congressional district in America...

NYU owns over 2,000 housing units that provide housing for faculty.
In addition to faculty, approximately 20 percent of these units are
rented to people who are not affiliated with the University.

A lot of haters out there, A dog owner who does clean up after their dog is more than most likely not a good neighbor in other ways. As a native NYer I always look where I place my bag on the ground. This reeks of "look what you made me do"
ReplyDeleteNot everyone is a dog lover, I respect that, the diatribes and rantings are a bit too much. By my count alone at least 50% of your commenters are moving out. Who do you think that intimates, there's 4 or 5 more willing to take your place. Please rememember you were once young, and don't be that cranky old man that yells "get off my grass"
The good old days also included the fear of being thrown out, broken car windows, stolen radios, no air conditioning, poor television reception, limited grocery options, plus so much more. It's not all bad
And what's the deal with dog owners bringing their dogs up onto the chess and picnic tables where we eat, sit, work and relax!!!!!??? As well as onto the benches where we sit!!
ReplyDelete>>Not everyone is a dog lover, I respect that, the diatribes and rantings are a bit too much.<<
ReplyDeleteMy post wasn't about dog lovers, or not dog lovers, but about PS (and by extension management) not policing the dog rules. I think that's fair game for diatribes and rantings.
>>By my count alone at least 50% of your commenters are moving out.<<
ReplyDeleteYour count would be wrong, because unless you have access to the IPs of these commentators, there's no way of knowing.
>>And what's the deal with dog owners bringing their dogs up onto the chess and picnic tables where we eat, sit, work and relax!!!!!??? As well as onto the benches where we sit!!<<
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the benches, but the chess tables where people eat, is another thing. Fido's butt may have just taken a dump nearby or a piss, and now he or she is laying their posterior on where you'll be eating. That may not be a spice on your bread!
Then again, there's a guy (and you'll know who if you frequent the Oval) who puts his feet up on the chess tables near Oval Cafe. A woman was once screaming at him for doing that.
"Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town is an unsafe neighborhood of transients."
ReplyDeleteYou got that right! And that is something that should be posted on Yelp.
"If / when Preet removes Cuomo we will need a new person and not a Cuomo blessed replacement. Hochul is not good for NY. New Yorkers should demand anti-corruption platform candidate Teachout!"
ReplyDeleteYES! YES! YES!
Teachout would make a fine Governor. i voted for her in the Primary and wrote in her name in the final election.

ReplyDeleteOn your bus to Albany think of this
ReplyDeleteNY taxpayers gave Leonard Litwin @260 million in a low interest loan to build luxury condos in Midtown coourtesy of Cuomo. That is where our taxpayer dollars go. Oh and he got a huge sum of money from 421a tax breaks. Tax breaks de Blasio wants to extend to 35 years because its not like taxpyer dollars are needed for things as infrastructure, NYPD, FDNY, other safety and quality of life things for working people.

funny this is up agai. lately we've been thinking it will be nyu all the way.
ReplyDeletewhy not? wouldn't you sell to NYU if you were CWC? wouldn't you buy any and all of stuytown if you were nyu. where do we think they'll get the housing they need by 2020?
You are right, Tommyboyardee. I remember the unbearable summers without air conditioning and the lousy TV reception, the broken into cars, etc. but I don't remember being in fear of being thrown out and I think the shopping along First Avenue and across 14th was great. Also 20th had D'ags which was good. Some things are better, some are worse and I tend to think the current dog and student situation, along with the corrupt and incompetent money-grubbing management, tip the balance to the worse. Btw, I love dogs, but some of the owners should be ticketed for dereliction.
ReplyDeleteis that why they screwed us out of the robert's settlement because the pols are all using their offices for the nyu 2031 real-estate grab plan?
ReplyDeleteDe Blasio, Stringer, Cuomo, Garodnick, Brewer, Kavanagh, Hoylman, James, Marsh, Steinberg, Kane, etc etc ALL helping NYU grab Stuyvesant Town Peter Cooper Village away from middle class families. That is why NO ONE, not one of them, helped keep PCV ST families in their homes and why the Garodnick/Marsh Hoylman/Steinberg TA will never file a lawsuit. CW CompassRock would call out their hypocrisy.
ReplyDeleteFortress, Langone, BlackRock all in bed together on the health corridor for Langone NYU.
http://nyulangone.org/our-story/our-leadership/trustees-overseers
Low life scum who steal homes from families. The worse of all is De Blasio who knew of the plans and still had the nerve to campaign here asking for our votes pretending he is for the people.
We too noticed the swift DOB cover-up reaction at the latest human error crane incident. DOB quick to say they had all the proper permits which means nothing since getting proper permits is a shady process sometimes back-filled and in itself wrought with inadequacies.
ReplyDeleteThe present DOB is not qualified to handle the amount of construction it is approving or the amount of buildings in NYC. This city agency needs to be shut down, a moratorium on construction, and a taxpayer-demanded new reformed buildings process and agency formed that actually makes sure more existing buildings are safe and compliant than rotting and in disrepair. NYC DOB is failing failing failing except for at one thing - cover ups!
We need a new process so city agencies serve residents and not just the businesses that are funneling money out of NYC with its empty luxury construction etc.
Taxpayers need an annual vote where we review city agencies and financially penalized or shut down if they are failing the citizens. This DOB is making a lot of money for a very few and leaving a lot of residents in hazardous conditions. Give us that reform!
De Blasio stays murky and quiet to hide his alliance with NYU against citizens who are forced to go to courts to protect their communities.
ReplyDelete"One must keep in mind who de Blasio has surrounded himself with. By end of February, mayor's inner circle was stacked with NYU insiders, with First Deputy Mayor Anthony Shorris (former NYU Langone head)
head of Department of Housing Preservation and Development Vicki Been (former NYU Law professor, wife of former NYU Law Dean, Richard Revesz, beneficiary of NYU's controversial mortgage program)
chair of City Planning Commission Carl Weisbrod (former chair NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate)
Corporation Counsel Zachary Carter (an NYU Law School trustee).
While the appointees' influence remains to be seen, Village activists are worried the school has an outsized seat in City Hall.
"We're hoping merits of our case will weigh more heavily with Mayor than his allegiances to NYU administration,"
"The fact of matter is the community is dead set against the project.
The faculty is overwhelmingly against it.
So if the mayor is on the side of the community, he has to stand with them against the Sexton Plan."
All in all, NYU 2031's fate poses a serious challenge to a mayor who, in the eyes of the electorate and his own party, is supposed to side with the people, not the developers.
It's an issue that has significant implications to how de Blasio will treat public space, real estate interests and community involvement in the post-Bloomberg years. And it's a controversy the mayor will need to take a position on fast, as expansion continues to divide his elected allies and his alma mater.

How about PS just doesn't feel like doing anything about enforcing the dog rules.
ReplyDeleteI've mentioned before...I pointed out to a PS officer that he had just passed a man with a pit bull.
He told me I had pointed this out too late to him and he kept on walking. When I called out to him to do his duty, he called back: "Thanks for being so concerned, sir."
Figure that one out. He clearly had no fear about doing nothing. PS has done nothing about dogs from day one.
The chess tables are a place where you play chess, not eat. You want to eat? Go to Oval Café or go to your apartment. These dogs are climbing on anything and everything. That's what happens when you live with dogs. I will NOT sit on anything out there. It's really unsanitary. It's just one on many things that are soo wrong in this place. No more rules in place and no one to enforce them. These are security guards, not policemen. You can thank management for all of our problems.
ReplyDeleteTotally sucks living here!
"DOB quick to say they had all the proper permits which means nothing"
ReplyDeleteRemember to thank Dan on the bus ride for protecting us by inserting himself into the process. His plans call for REBNY buying his special permit first, before they can proceed to buying standard DOB permits. Does anyone really believe his expensive special permit tollbooth will be limited to the Vanderbilt corridor?
Great idea here:
ReplyDeletesince the management here is so hell bent on getting us all out - NEW BROKER APARTMENT OFFICE : find , for free, all tenants new homes in NYc! no fee, move all our stuff, info and coop sales.

ReplyDeleteMore transients into Stuyvesant Town Peter Cooper Village and they come from the classiest places like Craigslist.
ReplyDeletehttp://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/roo/5052355766.html
Notice in the photos the renovated apartments replaced the fireproof/ fire resistant doors with decorative ones because closing a door in a room with a fire is a safety precaution not needed in 2015. (sarcasm)
When Tishman started their push to market rate by dividing up apartments, ignoring noise complaints, allowing dogs without enforcing the rules etc, we all believed that they took a lax attitude because they didn't want to offend tenants paying market rates. After almost 10 years of this indifference to their tenancy as a whole, it's become clear that they don't care about ANY of their tenants, no matter what the price. All they're interested in doing is exploiting the rent stabilization loopholes so they can get their bazillion dollar a month "legal" rents on the books, and they aren't concerned about shaping a harmonious and respectful community as Met insisted upon. Somehow, CW Capital thinks that they can operate a 30,000+ resident community without a whit of guidance, enforcement or interference, and this is all made crystal clear by their blind indifference to the problems that have ruined the QOL for their tenants.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, it appears that the only way people will get any sort of result is by the initiation of a class action lawsuit because there is too much money at stake for CW to do things properly. They need a tenant group that is willing to do that, and let the courts order compliance.
5:30 AM: You are so damned right. Getting the correct "permits" and paperwork does not mean that the rigging and the actual "hands-on" part of the job is going to be done safely and correctly. You can have a perfectly legal license to own a gun, but still go and commit a massacre with it or simply use it improperly and kill somebody. The paperwork should be signed off on until inspectors have had a good (and I mean good, not for show) look at the rigging. They didn't even close off the streets to pedestrians, which is something they are supposed to do.
ReplyDeleteThe whole construction business in this city is as corrupt and vile as (or maybe more so) than might be expected in some third world dictatorship. Our politicians are no better than mobsters because they enable and profit from the construction and development industry. There should be a thorough auditing and cleaning out of the whole bunch of them. We might as well be living in 1970s Nigeria where everything that landed at the ports was skimmed by the government, even (especially!) medical equipment and supplies for the neediest areas. It was known to be one of the most corrupt regimes in the world. I'm betting that the Nigerians have cleaned up their act and are better than our pols are! Corrupt politicians are the worst people in the world (at the risk of sounding like Keith Oberman!) because they destroy cities, lives and entire civilizations if they are left to it.
All of the doctors I have to go to (unfortunately, I need quite a few!) are NYU graduates and professors in their particular specialties. Each one of them hates Sexton and Langone! They actually shudder at the mention of their names and comment on how vile they are!
ReplyDeleteI think that PS is instructed by "management" to not enforce the dog rules.
ReplyDelete>>At this point, it appears that the only way people will get any sort of result is by the initiation of a class action lawsuit because there is too much money at stake for CW to do things properly. ReplyDeleteI'm waiting just for that, but it certainly doesn't look as if it's going to happen. My guess is that Dan and the heads of the TA are still hoping to buy their apartments at a good price.
Tenants need to see the special deal Dan and the TA get for pushing the REBNY plan on this community.

De Blasio and Cuomo both have bad plans for affordable housing and construction wages and 421a. Both their plans hurt renters and give billions of dollars to wealthy developers for luxury condos. REBNY loves both their plans.
ReplyDeletePlease let their be a third option to Cuomo and De Blasio.
Just sayin' there are many MANY areas designated 'no dogs allowed' and tons of benches that are off limits to residents when accompanied by dogs. In my 6 years of dog ownership PS enforces the rules consistently and keeps dogs from all of these prime seating areas. The anti-dog attitudes expressed here are over the top.
ReplyDelete>>In my 6 years of dog ownership PS enforces the rules consistently....<<
ReplyDeleteAre you from Public Safety or management??? No way that the dog rules here are enforced. Everyone knows this.
The real estate industry, their lobbyists, their puppets in political offices and associations masquerading as Tenant advocates from the rent stabilization association to even some residential tenant associations are the most corrupt industry in the city, state, country, world. Take them all down DOJ!
ReplyDeleteAndrew Cuomo’s Administration Involved in Federal Corruption Probe of Real Estate Industry
http://www.ibtimes.com/andrew-cuomos-administration-involved-federal-corruption-probe-real-estate-industry-1947043
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration is blocking the release of details about transactions between the state and the governor’s top campaign donor. The state’s housing agency says it cannot release the documents because it is “cooperating” with a federal prosecutor’s probe of financial relationships between New York lawmakers and campaign donors in the real estate industry who have business before the state.
In rejecting an open-records request, New York officials disclosed the Cuomo administration’s connection to the probe: The letter denying the request specifically cited an exemption for documents involved in a law enforcement investigation. That is apparently the first time New York state officials have acknowledged Cuomo’s housing agency -- as opposed to just state legislators -- is involved in the investigation.
'PS enforces the rules consistently". What planet are you living on.
ReplyDelete>>Are you from Public Safety or management??? No way that the dog rules here are enforced. Everyone knows this.<<
ReplyDeleteNo I am not from PS or Mgmt. Thank you for asking.
I'm a resident since the 80's and I find PS to be overreaching in its surveillance of residents on cameras and ticketing for off-leash dogs, having a dog in a playground, sitting on a bench with a dog on the grassy oval inner walkways, to cite a few examples.
@11:40
ReplyDeleteI agree that the anti-dog attitudes on this site are over the top, but to put that in the same sentence as PS enforcing the rules is laughable. I am a dog owner that walks my dog constantly.... She loves being out! With that being said, my tag has not been checked in years. We walk the oval, the perimeter, PCR, and everything in between at all hours of the day. I would actually appreciate being stopped, but it never happens.
>>No I am not from PS or Mgmt. Thank you for asking.

Well, we have dramatically different experiences, to be sure, and I suspect your experience is dramatically different than the experience of other residents. I still suspect you are from PS or management (or leasing), despite your saying you aren't. Sorry. It's just not comprehensible that you would think that PS is enforcing the rules "consistently."
"I'm a resident since the 80's and I find PS to be overreaching in its surveillance of residents on cameras and ticketing for off-leash dogs, having a dog in a playground, sitting on a bench with a dog on the grassy oval inner walkways, to cite a few examples."
ReplyDeleteNice try. Come to think of it, it's really not so nice a try, you probably could have done better. In one respect, your self-centeredness seems genuine, but you shouldn't have overreached so much with your criticism of supposed dog enforcement which everyone knows simply doesn't exist.
"PS enforces the rules consistently".
ReplyDeleteSurely you must be delusional.
Take a walk around the Oval. Dog shit everywhere. The ubiquitous urine stains add color and aroma to the Stuy Town mix. I saw a young woman walking a Great Dane here the other night. I politely asked her, "Doesn't Management have a weight restriction on the dogs you can keep in an apartment?" She cheerily replied, "Oh, they don't check. And if they did I'd tell them he is an overweight poodle. All they care about is if you pay the rent."
At this point, the 120+ pound dog ( horse, beast? ) dropped the most massive load I've ever seen. The pile of dog sh*t reached a height of what appeared to be a small mountain. Pungent too!
The lady then said to me, "Well, Good Night, nice talking to you" and began to walk away without cleaning up the mess. Astounded, I asked, "Didn't you forget something?" She breezily replied, " Oh, I forgot. Don't worry. They'll pick it up".
UNBELIEVABLE!!!>
Any reason why our NEW basement gets waxed every two weeks? It's not even dirty. Another waste of $ CR passes on to tenants - and what nasty employees work cleaning here. Simply nasty individuals.
ReplyDeletePS is enforcing management's rules consistently, those being rules to ignore anybody who is breaking the rules.

First of all, like the STR, I see zero enforcement by PS of these NYC*/PCVST dog regulations. My question then, are you then saying that you do not believe in any of the regulations that you refer to at all?
*Lease law.
It would be fine if the bus and twitter pushers were supporting all efforts to help this community, bus and twitter and blog. But their demanding the people of this blog stop posting about Cuomo/Langone De Blasio/NYU Garodnick/TA is looking awfully suspicious.
ReplyDeleteIs that part of the deal you made? Part of your years of keeping this community in the dark that has stepped up since De Blasio just met with Cuomo? Remove the people who are informing the community of the city and state corruption that is killing our community?
Everyone should do everything they can to help this community, whether it is bus to Albany, protests, rallies, twitter, blogging, commenting on blogs, and so forth.
EVERYTHING!

Thank you for taking the time to consider that I may in fact have a very different experience from you. Your blog post is titled Public Safety Can't or Won't Enforce Dog Rules Here. I was adding my view to yours to say that I have directly experienced rules enforcement. The very rules that I note PS strictly enforcing have preserved many many many areas of the community for the exclusive use of residents without dogs.

ReplyDeleteOkay. So I will take your word for it that you are resident. But, as you see, everyone else is posting experiences diametrically opposed to yours. Why is that? Go on the TA's Facebook, and you'll see similar experiences being related.
The community is hopelessly polarized on the topic of dogs. Slobs who don't pick up after their dog are in the small minority but unfortunately their deeds are very ugly. I wonder if our two sides (anti-dog and pro-dog) could at least unite around a push for Management to do a better job of cleaning sidewalks routinely throughout the complex. Peace.
ReplyDeleteI think we can unite on PS enforcing the dog rules?
ReplyDeleteOne of the best sort-of graduation speeches and a solid reason this De Blasio Cuomo plan to turn NYC into a land of corporate events with convention centers, casinos, and trump golf courses and golf cups is going to suck the life out of our youth after it eliminates our communities and leaves only a supply of ready-made workforce of new graduates for Wall Street and Corporate America. Our college students deserve a NYC college experience that includes what Greenwich Village stands for and all NYC communities stood for before the big banks, big retailer chains took over.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. The porters need to hose the sidewalks.
Our porter was so un-busy he was rummaging through the trash and handed a bag of it to someone who went into the management office. I kid you not. I was doing laundry and saw the whole thing! I would prefer the porter hose the sidewalks instead of playing with our trash.
Porters need to clean the entrances to buildings where the dogs are peeing. Disgusting. Our porter is mean and nasty on top of not cleaning.
ReplyDelete" It would be fine if the bus and twitter pushers were supporting all efforts to help this community, bus and twitter and blog. But their demanding the people of this blog stop posting about Cuomo/Langone De Blasio/NYU Garodnick/TA is looking awfully suspicious."
ReplyDeleteThis is bogus. Right now, if the NYS RS laws are just renewed not strengthened, we are toast so everything else does become irrelevant. That is a fact. And Cuomo is VERY relevant, he can make or break us so he has to put under enormous pressure. His poll numbers are tanking so we all need to ramp up the pressure. And Garodnick's total silence on #SBJSA says it all, he’s a REBNY tool (duh?). I guess, in all your link posts, that fell off your radar. But again, he does not matter right now, we need to focus. All your NYU/TA/CR/CWC/Brookfield/Garodnick conspiracy theories won’t mean shit if the NYS RS law is just renewed. Nobody is telling anyone to bugger off, just focus on what works, what doesn’t, and what is vital right now. Again, Albany is where the action is, that will determine our future. Hey, what happened to that TA alternative email? Probably the same thing that happened with that Guterman contract where he got ONE signed contract back. And we should have at least 30 “Funny” posts for every one of those BS Yelp reviews. Such a joke.
While MetCouncil and Jumaane Williams were fighting an amazing fight, a real no holds barred demand for renter's rights to quality of life and of home
ReplyDeletecuomo makes a mockery of a photo op for tomorrow as if this is a power play in a political game exchanging slaps in the face and not a fight for human rights in his oppressive state.

Honestly, why should they enforce anything. The plot to hassle decent tenants is obvious. Thehy want us to move.
ReplyDelete>>Right now, if the NYS RS laws are just renewed not strengthened, we are toast so everything else does become irrelevant.<<
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I don't buy this. We are toast and have been toast for years. (Thank you TA and Dan.) That said, I certainly do not oppose tenants heading to Albany next week. I can't for personal reasons, and if I could, I certainly would not be on the same bus with Our Man Dan or John Marsh. Sorry. But I would take other transportation to get there. Maybe.
I STOPPED IN THE NEW EDUCATION & SERVICE STOREFRONT AT 250 FIRST AVENUE ( 14 St.) . THE MAN I SPOKE WITH WAS EXTREMELY NICE. I ASKED WHAT THE PURPOSE OF THE STOREFRONT WAS. HE SAID IT WAS A SERVICE & EDUCATIONAL STORE. PEOPLE WILL BE EDUCATED ABOUT THE RULES, SERVICES AND AMENITIES AVAILABLE IN STPCV. YOU CAN ALSO GO THERE TO PICK UP KEYS . THERE WERE SMALL REPLICAS OF THE VARIOUS APARTMENT STYLES -MODERN, TRADITIONAL, ETC. I IMMEDIATELY SAID THEY SHOULD EDUCATE NEW /OLD TENENTS ON DOG RULES AND GARBAGE /TRASH RULES. HE IMMEDIATELY AGREED AND SAID THAT WAS THE PLAN. MY QUESTION IS -WHY NOT LET RESIDENTS KNOW ABOUT THIS PLACE SO WE ARE AWARE THAT MANAGEMENT IS ATTEMPTING TO IMPROVE THIS SITUATION? I WONDER WHY THEY NEEDED A NEW SITE TO EDUCATE & SERVE. THEY COULD USE THE COMMUNITY CENTER. MAKES ME WONDER THE REAL REASON. DON'T WANT TO SPECULATE BUT..... WHO KNOWS!!!
ReplyDeleteSo many protests have been failures. Does anyone remember the MASSIVE protest with a human hand-holding ring around Stuy Town of tenants of many NYC organizations? How did that one work out? We'll see if this one works.
ReplyDeleteI still say the best protest is suing the bastards and putting some of them in jail.
I still say the best protest is suing the bastards and putting some of them in jail.....
ReplyDeleteagreed! separating them from their money is the only language they understand....and long overdue
"So many protests have been failures. Does anyone remember the MASSIVE protest with a human hand-holding ring around Stuy Town of tenants of many NYC organizations? How did that one work out? We'll see if this one works."
ReplyDeleteYes I remember, I was part of it. And you know what I heard from long term tenants about the rally ? They complained about how many of the participants were people of color. If you want to look into who is to blame about why we are “toast”, besides Garodnick (fool me once..) look no further than the long term tenants of PCVST, many who voted, year after year, for Roy Goodman, Giuliani, Pataki, and Bloomberg. Yes, I know Peter Vallone,Sr (his son also is scum) and Anthony Weiner were to blame for the "toasting" as well but we could not vote for them back then.
Andrew MacArthur. Andrew MacArthur. Andrew MacArthur. This is all. His. Fault.
ReplyDelete>>And you know what I heard from long term tenants about the rally ? They complained about how many of the participants were people of color.<<
ReplyDeleteThat's a new one. NEVER heard that. I was at that rally, too, btw.

ReplyDeleteLong term PCVST residents are racists? We are "toast" because long term PCVST residents are racists?
You forget to say that in addition to being racists, long term PCVST tenants:
- are not middle class
- are millionaires
- reside in oceanfront mansions they own in the Hamptons
- pay $500/mo rent for PCVST pied-a-terres illegally sublet for $5,500/mo
- contribute nothing
- drown puppies and kittens for fun
- hate the world and everyone in it
- should be exterminated
Long term PCVST residents should get booted out of their PCVST homes because they are guilty of long term PCVST residency. It's unfortunate Speyer failed to quickly expel all the racists out before he walked away dumping PCVST on his investment partner Brookfield to complete his mission.
I was also at the rally and no such utterances about "people of color." Notwithstanding its murky racist policies of the past, I have never perceived STOCV to be a racially intolerant place. I've lived here 35 years and I know that all my neighbors get along well and on my floor we are Irish, West Indian, Italian, Chinese and Jewish. We are a little community and throughout the entire building there is a good mix of races, religions and cultures and, of course, complexions. I have never once encountered or even heard of any prejudice.
ReplyDelete100% agree

Burnt toast - and I say none of us really care as we gave up long ago and are doing nothing.
ReplyDeleteJune 3, 2015 at 6:40 PM it sounds like June 3, 2015 at 12:11 PM hit a nerve of yours. A nerve of truth perhaps?.
ReplyDeleteAt the same time it sounds like you two are saying the same thing, we should be fighting.
We don't have the luxury of one problem, Albany.
This whole community or what is left of it cannot take its eye off any of the battles.
We have to keep our eyes on all the battles in the war they waged on us and there are a lot. We can't afford to focus on just one, the Albany battle, we have to fight them all because they are hitting us on all sides.
We'll be in Albany alongside tenants from all over NYC because it is the entire city's battle but it is not the only PCVST battle, but just not on the Marsh and Garodnick buses because we can't just focus on bikinis while they are buildings dorms.
They built a number of new offices, increased the amount of office space, for all the different businesses they are (illegally) running here in addition to a residential community of rent stabilized housing. All construction is sanctioned by the blind eyes of you know who
ReplyDelete"And Garodnick's total silence on #SBJSA says it all, he’s a REBNY tool (duh?)"
ReplyDeleteWhat is this? Did you forget to post the link to read about it?
As I ready to walk out the door into the commercialized Oval Langone corridor college quad that Langone likes to call "health corridor open space" where there once was a quiet, peaceful, private residential tree park, I am reminded every morning the conspiracy theories posted here are not theories, they are facts.
"I was also at the rally and no such utterances about "people of color."
ReplyDeleteThe comments I heard were said by long term tenants (full disclosure, I am one as well) post the rally. These tenants never bothered to show at the rally. I'm sorry, but this place has a history within it of racism and anti-Semitism. To deny that is bubble thinking.
June 4, 2015 at 12:10 PM this is a distortion that is completely unfair. Every town, every city, north, south, east and west has older neighborhoods with people that have held views reflective of the times of their youth in the 40's, the 50's the 60's, every decade. The times have changed a lot. My bubbe and I have different views because we grew up in different times. She is a good lady. Generations just have different views, not only in Stuy Town but everywhere.
ReplyDelete>>These tenants never bothered to show at the rally. I'm sorry, but this place has a history within it of racism and anti-Semitism.<<
ReplyDeleteWell, I believe one of the advantages that many current white tenants see in this community is the relative absence of blacks and Puerto Ricans. They probably don't even think about it, but that's what makes this complex desirable to live in for them. Birds-of-a-feather is the most kind perspective here. (I think anti-Semitism is gone by now, excepting for some residents with very old views.)
But, what does this have to do with the dog rules?
"But, what does this have to do with the dog rules?"
ReplyDeleteSTR you mentioned the rally ("human hand-holding ring") in this thread so I responded. And my comment stated "history". Speaking of dogs, my friend and I, while visiting a good friend with terminal cancer, he stepped in dog shit while we were exiting the elevator on the T level in Stuy Town. I think that experience sums up this place right now,
FYI. Big smear of dog shit right in front if public safety office.
ReplyDeleteYippeeeeee!!!!
Take the few seconds to file a complaint for each instance.

In addition, sidewalks must be kept free of snow, ice and
debris. New Yorkers are encouraged to call 311 to report "non-compliant conditions" according to the Buildings Department. File the complaint to DOB for each pile of poop you have to walk around. compassRock is responsible for keeping clean the sidewalks.
Done.
