Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.
Thank you STR for keeping us informed in ways to fight the good fight against these greedy dirty RE and pols. Watching them destroy everything is painful.
ReplyDeleteSaw this on how Barclay Center was approved / made (evicting working class citizens) for a stage venue for the bid for democratic convention in Brooklyn and why none of the criminal bankers have ever been held accountable and why / how all that made the Clinton's $50 million dollars and how it all ties together. A good read too.

Thank you STR for all you are doing for all of us.
He's so useless because he's afraid of his owners cutting off his donations. He is owned, just like the rest of the pols, by the RE industry and those who want to launder their dirty money through these monstrosities. He doesn't work for us, he works for them.
ReplyDeleteIt is like Dan has a personal vendetta against trees. How many is he going to kill for his rich RE friends?
ReplyDeleteNYC is so far behind places like Boston who for years have been trying to ban these sun blocking shadow casters and we have not even tried?!
Wow.
ReplyDeleteTHX STR for these articles. This line from Washing Post via The Guardian via STR blog says so much:
"Light becomes a resource that can be bought by the wealthy, eclipsed for the poor."
Dan's towers for the wealthy have expanded the inequality gap between the working class and the one percenters. Stealing sun light from the working class.
A pro-inequality politician in office representing a working class community explains a lot on how we went down these recent years. Agree with the person who said it in another comment on another thread - watch what he does not what he says.
Toronto NY San Fran connection is oddly weird and broadly used even by our own landlordish Brookfield tenant-ish led bid.
ReplyDeleteOff topic I am still laughing and crying at the Mayor in Florida building a tower to send a message to China. Crying for the waterway and environment and laughing at stupid the message sending - where you lead I will follow. Florida will follow China's lead. Stupid. Stupid. So stupid.

POSTCARDS! POSTCARDS! POSTCARDS!
It's time we get organized and stop agonizing over feckless Dan and the TA trolls.
Who is WITH ME?!?!?!
Enough - Dan doesn't own us.
ReplyDeleteHe is selling out his entire district.
ReplyDeleteDan and his cohorts make the corrupt politicians of "The Gilded Age" look like a bunch of altar boys! These hideous monstrosities are monuments to the hubris, greed and total contempt for the citizens of New York and the beautiful Central Park that so many have been enjoying for so many years. Even the muggers and drug dealers who infest the park (not so much now, maybe) didn't wreak such destruction as a few little rich men with no morals have done and continue to do.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who knows the moral climate at big law firms like Paul Weiss would not be surprised at the kind of man that Dan is.
ReplyDeleteEVERYBODY everywhere sees what is wrong with these towers. Why won't the politicians?
ReplyDeleteReplace student dorms with returning vets and military families! They make better neighbors, better members of community, and we are right across the street from the vet hospital! It makes perfect sense. They are much more worthy of rent stabilized homes than rich kid luxury apartments dorms to make their college experience cushy place to party instead of a place to study!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDe Blasio’s New Plan To Combat Inequality Stiffs Vets
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/05/14/de-blasio-s-new-plan-to-combat-inequality-stiffs-vets.html
"He hasn’t even met with his own veteran’s advisory board.”
Rieckhoff former member advisory board under Bloomberg. He stayed in job until last month, well after de Blasio entered City Hall, until mayor named new appointments to board after making no moves for more than a year.
It’s those kinds of delays, Rieckhoff and other activists say, that suggest to veterans they fall somewhere near bottom of de Blasio’s of priorities.
“The mayor doesn’t even pay lip service to veterans,” said Army veteran Kristen Rouse who heads NYC Veterans Alliance. “The only thing he brought up in his state of the city was homelessness initiative,” Rouse said, “and that’s a federal program, totally run on federal money.”
There are around 230,000 veterans in NY, one of largest concentrations in country.
Yet to serve that group, city allocated only $600,000 in executive budget for fiscal year 2015 year out of more than $75 billion.
“That’s just $2.50 per veteran in the city—to say nothing of military families,” IAVA spokesman Jason Hansman said last week in testimony before NYC Council Committee on Veterans. Less money goes to veterans in NY, than to Mayor’s Office of Film, TV and Broadcasting. And it’s far less than being spent in other cities like Boston, which budgets $5.5 million for veteran’s services.
“The fact we spend such a miniscule amount of money helping veterans navigate the city’s massive bureaucracy and all services available is just shameful,” said Ulrich. He cited employment as an example of an issue facing veterans in the city, where MOVA’s budget and staffing are too small for the office to make an impact. Unemployment is higher among veterans in NYC, and particularly among younger veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, than in the non-veteran population; a trend seen across the country.
“Vets are being offered low paying, minimum wage jobs that are not commensurate with their military experience and there’s no strategy to connect them with good paying jobs,” Ulrich said. “MOVA could play an important role in helping them navigate that, but not when you have three or four people in an office trying to help more than 200,000 people.”
The money NY sets aside for veterans is controlled by MOVA but almost none of that money actually leaves the office. The budget this year included a $20,000 bump over 2014 to cover MOVA’s administrative costs but even with that, nearly all of its $600,000 will go to cover the salaries of its six staffers. Run on a shoestring, MOVA doesn’t have funds to run its own programs and coordinate services provided by other agencies. The problem with that model, according to Rouse, is without any real authority or emphasis from mayor’s office MOVA “doesn’t even have any oversight power.”
“Sutton is a phenomenal, patriotic individual,” he said. “I have tremendous respect for her personally, but she is not getting the support she needs from the mayor’s office to do a good job. She’s a victim of Mayor de Blasio’s inability to fully understand vets issues.”
Last month IAVA, with reps from several other national veterans groups and members of the mayor’s own advisory board, gathered on steps of City Hall to call attention to mayor’s mishandling of veteran’s issues. “When (we) were outside his office at City Hall holding a rally,” Rieckhoff said, “he was in Iowa.”

So True. So True.
Not all of us ladies think Dan is a nice boy or cute in any way whatsoever! Some of think he is a slimy little twerp and wish he would just go away.
ReplyDeleteThe high towers are monumentally stupid from an environmental point of view, a quality of life point of view, and contrary to equality - I agree they are 100% inequality in nature.
ReplyDeleteOne word: Earthquake. Buh bye!
ReplyDeleteShort term greed with no long term wisdom
ReplyDeleteWhat would happen to Grand Central Station if a plane hit the Vanderbilt tower Dan is building fore S L Green? Grand Central Station is a known vulnerable terrorist target. Building a tower over it makes it an easier target.
ReplyDeleteIncreasing density near a vulnerable terrorist target is reckless.
This S L Green tower should be built in a location that is in need of rehab, maybe a few stops away on the F train.
We are less than 15 years from the most devastating terrorist attack on American soil on 9/11 and we have not learned any lessons from it. Only how to shoot back.
I have kept silent on this tower until now. City planning is out of its bloody mind putting towers around Grand Central Station.
Is Meredith Kane still the lawyer for the Steinberg Marsh Garodnick Tenant Association responsible for debt restructuring etc? Since we got the short end of the stick in her work on the rent roll do we have a way to a) get back our money, b) get back or proper monthly rent and c) get a new lawyer who will truly represent tenants?
ReplyDeleteTaller buildings, faster trains, I feel like my toddler son is running the city, state and country. These are things he does and wants.
ReplyDelete9:48 AM: totally agree with you. These towers are just so inviting to terrorists and there are no evacuation procedures in place for New Yorkers if an earthquake or another attack should take place.
ReplyDeleteThese politicians are blinded by their greed and ambition. DeBlasio is the stupidest mayor we've ever had. He thinks he is progressive and innovative. Most of us see him as grandiose and delusional. One term mayor for sure.
Geez that office is big. The Compass Rock people love it. They just laughed when we said we missed our quiet, open space saying
ReplyDelete"well its ours now"
Thanks for killing the trees, the open space, the peace and quiet Dan!
Dan and his TA violated their own statement of principles. Many times.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.stpcvta.org/post/statement-of-principles
We need a new statement of principles and I am on board for the new TA.
Many years ago I sort of liked and trusted Dan.
ReplyDeleteNow, I neither like or trust him.
ReplyDeleteI now agree with 5:24 too
Check out all the phony shill reviews on Yelp regarding PCVST. Must be CompassRock behind it. Who do they think they are kidding? Bozos!
ReplyDeleteSo the increases on the MR 2 bedrooms are higher and higher. Has anyone noticed this? We won't be able to stay here with our kids.much longer.
ReplyDeleteThere have been a whole slew of recent fake favorable Yelp reviews; we all need to go the Yelp link on the banner page of this blog, sort by date, and click on “Funny” for these BS CR/CWC reviews.
ReplyDeleteThey must be desperate if they are faking yelp reviews. Yelp already helps CW hide the negative reviews. Yelp is so ridiculous. A lot of the positive reviews are done by sleazy brokers.
ReplyDelete2:92 challenge the rent increases and the renovation charges and just see what happens. Can't hurt. Chance are your apartment should have never increased as much as it has but no one checked it. Challenge everything. CW is definitely overcharging and Dan and his TA have never challenged the reno work or the MCI applications as Riverton did. Very very disappointed in Garodnick. Sold out his community.
ReplyDeleteLook at some of the photos on the TA fb page. The filthy stinking slobs who call themselves students aren't even mature enough to clean their own asses. Can we post photos on Yelp?
ReplyDeleteThe fake yelp reviews are by the little brokers who are having a hard time getting renters into PCVST.
ReplyDeleteCuomo and Dan are cut from the same cloth. Create and allow catastrophes, spread fear mongering, then pr yourself as a hero speaking against the catastrophe. They both have to go!
ReplyDeleteAgain, everyone, for the BS Yelp reviews, click on "Funny".
ReplyDeleteFor the 11 :01 pm poster - How does one challenge since we're pretty new tenant and would like to. Whom to phone and write first please. Thanks much.
ReplyDeleteI stopped trusting Garodnick after he and Scott Stringer made a back room deal and Garodnick agreed to hypocritically do a third term. Those two cannot be trusted at all.
ReplyDelete11:29 pm you are so right. Stringer and Garodnick are very sleazy.

ReplyDelete"Cuomo and Dan are cut from the same cloth. Create and allow catastrophes, spread fear mongering, then pr yourself as a hero speaking against the catastrophe."
Remember this?
http://town-village.com/2014/10/16/peter-cooper-lawn-could-become-another-playground/
"A resident of 8 Peter Cooper Village told Town & Village that last week he saw a man walking around on the lawn between his building and 541 East 20th Street, measuring things ... When the resident, who didn’t want his name published, asked the man what he was doing, the reply was that he was an architect hired by CWCapital and that the owner was thinking of turning the lawn into a playground. ... “If I hadn’t asked the guy what he was doing, all of a sudden there would have been bulldozers tearing it up.” ... the resident spoke with fellow PCV resident Council Member Dan Garodnick, who in turn, spoke with management to say he too was opposed to repurposing the green space ... According to the resident, who’s since started circulating a petition against changing the lawn to a playground"
Dan gets to pretend he's a tenant hero defending us against something not happening.
We're still waiting to sign the anonymous tipster's anonymous petition against a CWC horror not taking place.
Talk about fear mongering RS tenants with conjured up bulldozers, construction, dust, noise, loss of green space and trees, exposure to poison underground chemicals, etc.
Dan's mentor, Karl Rove, couldn't be more proud of him.
I'm proud to be a part of this community who is speaking out and standing up to these RE companies and the politicians RE owns.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else notice how Dan likes to throw it in our face like when he and REBNY follow and mirror each others twitters last week with the second avenue subway updates and the historic old NYC maps? we need a new councilperson and fast.

TD Bank and Black Rock (Robbie partner in crime) are two major tenants in Brookfield properties monster building. No doubt they want to get their dirty little hands on our homes to steal the land to build a monster building.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brookfield_Place_%28Toronto%29
The relationship between City Council, Garodnick, REBNY Brookfield is shady. They need to come clean.
They have had the plans to destroy PCVST since Robbie Black Rock and Brookfield got their dirty hands on it in 2007. They are pulling a "Cuomo" destroying us slowly so no one notices so they can escape a public relations exposure of their true selves. They are old school antiquated in the belief "politics is PR". We know PR is BS. PR is spin. Used to deceive.
Politics is Results.
Dan's results in PCVST are atrocious.
Does the "TA" still pay that politician's PR firm to promote the politician's agendas to this community and to promote the commercial businesses and Oval concerts to the public outsiders?
The treasurer of the TA has a lot of explaining to do on how and where she has been spending money. The Secretary of the TA owes us the minutes of the meetings with the PR shop.
He is able to get "special permits" for RE buddies.
ReplyDeleteHe is able to get rezoning for RE buddies.
He is unable, unwilling to get anything to protect the residential zoning here.
The permits to develop construction here were gotten with a lot of political help for CW.
All the favors for RE.
No favors for constituents.
No protections for PCV ST.
When is his term over?!

"TD Bank and Black Rock (Robbie partner in crime) are two major tenants in Brookfield properties monster building. No doubt they want to get their dirty little hands on our homes to steal the land to build a monster building."
ReplyDeleteBrookfield doesn't have to "steal" anything when Garodnick and the TA will give everything away to them in exchange for a few worthless promises to do nothing that will cost Brookfield nothing. Under the guise of their phony "tenant led purchase" the tenants get duped into buying ST-PCV for Brookfield. Brookfield will own everything; all our homes, all the land, all the commercial/retail/parking, all the development rights, etc. - Everything. What will tenants get? Nothing they don't already have. Garodnick and the TA call Brookfield's empty promises to do nothing that will cost Brookfield nothing "shared values." For instance, Brookfield promises it will not construct a huge NYU dormitory on the ST Oval. Instead, they will reap financial windfalls selling ST-PCV development rights to construct a giant dorm across the street. Oh, and Brookfield promises functional laundry machnies.
Petty. Vindictive. Spiteful. Infantile.

"When is his term over?!"
ReplyDeleteTwice, NYC voters approved constitutional amendments limiting Dan to 2 terms.
Bloomberg bought Dan a 3rd term and all ST-PCV tenants are suffering for it.
Dan's should already be gone, history, out-a-here!
He should walk away taking his predator benefactors with him!
His meddling presence is unconstitutional, illegitimate, corrupting!
AGREE

10:54 Central Park, Grand Central, and PCV ST are suffering for it.
ReplyDeleteThree Major Historical New York City Icons are suffering for it.
There are so many good arguments on this blog for why these towers around Central Park and Grand Central are about the dumbest acts by politicians. Here is another. someone already pointed out Grand Central is a known terrorist target. Hitting strategically placed tall tower target feet away from Grand Central would economically shut down / even permanently close down thousands of densely packed businesses, blocking thousands of commuting workers. Businesses should take that into consideration before opening offices around there. Unless the business is a global empire, it would not survive a hit / even one day shut down of Grand Central -- now painted with a bigger bulls eye.
