Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.
Again the NYPD is caught lying to the press to cover up for CompassRock? CW? NYU?
ReplyDeleteAre these considered campus rapes? Or are they unreported campus rapes?
Whose reputation are they protecting, why, and why would the NYPD compromise their own integrity?
Can the community trust the NYPD knowing they are lying about rapes happening here.
Is management still paying off the 13th precinct? Guess so. We need to make clear to the media that this happened in Stydorm. I wonder if T&V will have the integrity to tell the truth?
ReplyDeleteCall it what it is

By the way did you all get your free drink tickets from your favorite StuyTown RA's

Good job Andrew MacArthur! You've taken a vibrant community and turned it into a crime addled dead zone. How will you "reward" this "community" member? Chipolte gift card and a rape kit?
ReplyDeleteStuy Town Grad hall obviously gave the photos to the NYPD 13th precinct and agreed to report it to the public as Gramercy neighborhood Rape.
ReplyDeleteWhat else are Stuy Town Security and NYPD doing and lying about?
Of course Town & Village is in on the Stuy Town cover up. Their report says Gramercy too. The TA knew it was reported wrong and kept that from us? To keep us in danger? What building was it?
ReplyDeletealso in peter cooper last month. No report about it, all kept quiet.
ReplyDeleteOf course Town & Village is in on the Stuy Town cover up. Their report says Gramercy too. The TA knew it was reported wrong and kept that from us? To keep us in danger? What building was it?"
ReplyDeleteSorry, this is fucking BS, the TA needs to called out on many things but they are the ones who posted this NYPD report on FB, which stated Gramercy. Again NYPD said Gramercy. THAT NYPD ID is the issue in this case, not the TA nor the T&V.
Just last week I got in an argument with a couple of bro's who had hooked and left the entrance doors wide open while they were moving in, or hopefully, out. I've no problem with locking it open if you're moving large objects through it, but you can't just leave doors propped open for hours on end unattended until you've finished the job.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure their Moms and Dads totally believed the rental agent when he assured them that "this is a VERY safe neighborhood, you've nothing to worry about here".
Sometimes I pine for the bad old days of the 70s & 80's. Sure, you had to watch your back, but the kind of bland, clueless, mall-raised suburbanites that are moving in these days stayed far, far away...

ReplyDeleteI clicked on your link. So fucking depressed. But thanks for posting. Soon enough, we will also have a NYU graduation ceremony on the Oval in addition to the one at WSP. Critical mass was reached about two years ago.
NYU perspective on Rape

NYU’s shameful rape policy fails survivors
Stuy Town Security, Town & Village newspaper and 13th Precinct are no better than NYU.
Shame on all of you for covering this up by saying it was in Gramercy!
That level of cover up and false reporting can't be decided at the lower level / precinct level. That gets approval from higher levels. Bratton or City Hall. That is not a little lie. That is big level deceit by the 13th NYPD precinct and a big reason not to trust them.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I have to leave at 4:00 in the morning to catch a 6:00am flight for business. I have been doing that for years. Before Tishman Speyer took over, it was so safe. Now I am a little scared each time I have to walk out the door so early. We are 1000% less safe now ever since we went from residential to commercial with college dorms. This once safe neighborhood is dangerous.
ReplyDeleteEveryone needs to tweet the shit out of this STR rape thread. Now!
ReplyDeleteThe TA Facebook identified this as happening in Stuy Town. Latest update is that it's a building near Ave C and 14th St.
ReplyDeleteThe question remains, who is identifying Stuy Town as being in Gramercy?
I guess that they evasively left out the building address in their carefully worded reporting is telling enough.
ReplyDeleteThe NYPD's Twitter feed identified the location as Gramercy. If you check Gothamist and the Daily News, you'll see that they just picked up the police report. Something stinks about the way the location gets reported by the NYPD.
ReplyDeleteThis has to be accurately reported as a college campus Rape at New York University Stuy Town Hall.
ReplyDeleteAll the e-vite, e-vent, facebook, twitter, frat site college tumblr site drunk bar crawls, parties, midnight casino frat poker games, resident assistant drunk fest invitations on social media all over the internet has made Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village unsafe for small kids and families.
Just walked through the grounds. Littered with beer cans. What a shithole this is now.
ReplyDeleteSabina and T&V should know better than to call it Gramercy especially since they know Stuy Town has been pulling this stunt for years. I suggest everyone get on Twitter and tweet the link along with the REAL neighborhood. #stuytown
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile sexual assault reports are at an all time high. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the 569,835 bars in the East Village and the woos who drink like they're still in Mayberry.
ReplyDeleteOr the rampant cousin use. Let's not forget about the cocaine!
ReplyDelete"The question remains, who is identifying Stuy Town as being in Gramercy?"
ReplyDeleteThat is the question. Is it NYPD or CR/CWC? Or both? It's not the TA or the T&V in some vast conspiracy. The TA was the lead in reporting that it was a Stuy Town address. In the case of the T&V, it's just lousy reporting, they took the face value of the NYPD report. They still haven’t corrected their blog.
This isn't the first time the 13th precinct covered up a crime in Stuyvesant Town by reporting it happening in Gramercy. I used to trust them but not anymore. They keep doing things that cost them my trust. In this climate I am surprised they are so cavalier with community trust.
ReplyDeleteif this creep strikes again in PCVST, I think a good case could be made that management, security AND the 13th Precinct are ENABLING this criminal and will be leaving themselves open to both criminal charges and civil lawsuits.
ReplyDeleteIt's as ridiculous as referring to Tudor City as Midtown.
ReplyDeleteyep, no need to stop, question and frisk that guy,,,
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comments here and all the comments in the T&V.
ReplyDeleteNYPD Commissioner Bratton again sends a clear message to Stuyvesant Town AGAIN:
The 13th Precinct will put PCVST residents in danger in the name of protecting and serving the interests of the real estate industry.
Ray Kelly landed big paying job, now President of Risk Management Services at Cushman Wakefield, after he famously, as police commissioner, protected and served business interests instead of citizens going so far to violate citizen's civil rights during Occupy protests (famously giving police escort then arresting 700 people on Brooklyn Bridge for not being on sidewalk to stop them from reaching bff Jamie Dimon's shop).
ReplyDeleteBratton is no different.
This is outrageous! Just how far will StuyTown Security and the NYPD go to help CompassRock CW by putting residents in harm's way..
ReplyDeleteStuytown IS in Gramercy. Actually, the project covers two neighborhoods: East Village and Gramercy. Although technically, it's really just Gramercy bordering on the EV and Kips Bay. I agree, however, that it is really it's own neighborhood and should have been identified as the Stuytown Projects. It's deceptive.
ReplyDeleteSoo much for these new state of the art cameras that are supposed to prevent these things from happening in the first place AND in which I am paying for, FOREVER!!!
ReplyDeleteWho the fuck was watching the cameras that night?
My affordable housing agenda: Gov. Cuomo lays out his plan to keep rents in line with what New Yorkers can pay
ReplyDeleteNEW YORK DAILY NEWS /
Saturday, June 6, 2015, 5:00 AM.
Enid Alvarez/New York Daily News
Safe, affordable housing is the foundation of our communities. Without it, New York may be a place to live, but it will not be a home for millions of New Yorkers.
The protection of affordable housing has been a passion of mine for over 30 years.
As founder of the Housing Enterprise for the Less Privileged, and then as U.S. secretary of housing and urban development, it was my mission to increase the supply of affordable housing, crack down on discrimination and expand programs to help grow housing options for low-income communities.
Before I took office, New York’s stock of affordable housing was being rapidly depleted with each passing year. In the 15 years prior to the passage of the new rent controls, New York had lost more than 230,000 apartments from the rent regulated system, and we faced the threat of losing over 100,000 more if we did not act.
So four years ago, with tenants facing lease manipulation and the loss of their rent-regulated apartments due to renovation schemes, we limited vacancy bonuses and altered the calculations and verification system to make sure landlords played by the rules.
And arguably our most important innovation was the creation of the first ever Tenant Protection Unit empowered with the authority to investigate, audit and bring legal action against landlords who gamed unsuspecting tenants.
These historic efforts were matched by an equally historic investment of $1 billion in the House NY program, which provides developers capital to build affordable housing.
The House NY program has helped spur the creation of thousands of affordable housing units; the TPU has helped return 40,000 units to rent regulation.
Yet despite our action four years ago, the crisis of affordability is back with a vengeance. Once again we are faced with an expiration emergency and, this time, the stakes are even higher.
Rising rent costs are taking an increasingly high toll on New York City residents. In 2012, roughly 55% of the city’s residents were spending more than 30% of their gross annual income on rent, and 30% of New York City’s renters were spending more than half of their gross annual income on rent.
Of the 3.4 million housing units in New York City, fewer than half are rent stabilized and only 1.2% are rent controlled. Access to rent stabilized units is incredibly limited, with only 2.12% of those units vacant, a figure far lower than the national average of 7%.
If these trends continue, affordable housing and the foundation of a vibrant middle-class will soon be a distant memory.
As we chart a newer, bolder, more sustainable course on affordable housing, we are not only protecting the rights of millions of New Yorkers, but also potentially millions more around the country.
So as Albany continues to debate rent regulations, our goal must be to strengthen and sustain them, not just extend them.
We must eliminate vacancy decontrol or at the very least significantly raise vacancy decontrol thresholds; further limit vacancy bonuses to ensure landlords aren’t rewarded financially for schemes to force tenants out; make major capital improvements and individual apartment improvement surcharges that go away once recovered by landlords, instead of ways of artificially raising a unit’s monthly rent; and make the preferential rent operate as the legal rent for the life of the tenancy. These should be foundational elements of any new rent regulation legislation.
While the Legislature has it in their hands to negotiate the specifics of the debate, there is one point that is non-negotiable: Their work will not be done unless and until they pass a law to strengthen and extend tenant protections.
I will call them back into session every day if necessary until tenants are protected with new regulations.
Thank you STR for giving us the truth and the Gothamist link. I guess Town & Village saw your blog and rewrote er I mean "updated". Disappointed about the 13th.

ReplyDeleteThere's some controversy about Gramercy's borders. Some people, apparently including the NYPD, claim that they stretch from the East River to B'way, from 14th to 34th streets, thus making ST "Gramercy." Assuming they're right, here are two points. (1) Nobody else was aware of that, including me (2) that also means Kips Bay, Union Square, Gramercy Park, and Peter Cooper are also "Gramercy."
The 13th Precinct has a community affairs dept. Their answer to the question that T&V posed in their update about why "Gramercy, not ST" in the T&V update sloppily sidestepped it. Nobody expects NYPD to give out victims' info -- including addresses -- but the least the 13th Precinct can do is be more targeted in their crime press releases about where a crime or attempted crime took place if their intent is to actually alert people nearby, since NYPD's "Gramercy" encompasses so many different nabes. Since that update, the editor has rewritten the story with a headline id-ing the location as a ST apt on Ave C. Good.
If the 13th Precinct's neighborhood-bundling crime report policy is determined downtown, I'd like to hear that from the 13th Precinct. If not, I'd like to hear who there made the determination to keep residents of our community confused about where criminal activity like this is happening, and why.
Interestingly enough, the 13th Precinct's website makes a distinction that their community affairs spokesperson doesn't: ST-PCV and Gramercy Park are described as ST-PCV, not Gramercy: http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/precincts/precinct_013.shtml
Apparently all this came to light because of someone either in the TA or on the TA FB page. Good for whoever that was. We need to keep the pressure up on this.

ReplyDeleteOops, that was me.
The next to last paragraph should have read: "Interestingly enough, the 13th Precinct's website makes a distinction that their community affairs spokesperson doesn't: ST-PCV and Gramercy Park are described as ST-PCV and Gramercy Park, not Gramercy."
Thanks.
9 10 !!! Surely you jest... LOLL There'll be no such criminal investigation. How would that be when no one is on our side, no one in any political capacity or law enforcement on our side.
ReplyDeleteAgain, I repeat what another fellow said here, How dyou not know this?
Right now in the fountain area, PS officers handing out "Wanted for Attempted Rape" flyers with photo of the suspect.
ReplyDeleteStill nobody wants to talk about the people jumping from the roofs committing suicide. Three so far this year.
ReplyDeleteIn Stuyvesant Town???
ReplyDelete>>Right now in the fountain area, PS officers handing out "Wanted for Attempted Rape" flyers with photo of the suspect.<<
ReplyDeleteThe cynic in me thinks this may be a reaction to what's being said online about the rape attempt, but let's just say this is a positive development.
It is a reaction by Sorise etc to the online outcry by residents.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this about three suicides in Stuyvesant Town? Bring it into the open.
ReplyDeleteYes, I want to hear about these three suicides. I think we would have heard if people were jumping off the roofs.
ReplyDeletenot necessarily so. they could easily cover up people jumping off roofs. especially if they are culpable in any way like if the roofs are not properly secure.
ReplyDelete>>I think we would have heard if people were jumping off the roofs.<<
ReplyDeleteI'd think so, too.
As far as the NYPD trying to keep crimes in certain areas quiet , that is no new thing . It's not just a Stuy town situation , orders come Straight from the commanding officer of the precinct, Headquarters and city hall.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to the NYU kids being disruptive , im sure that is true , but the comments disparaging them doesn't help and puts ppl who want to make legitimate complaints in a position where their complaints are not taken seriously. They are good kids in general and plenty of stuy town kids have gone to similar type colleges and engaged in the same behavior at their college living areas and toens/cities. Complain professionally and legitimately and things should get better , chip in and hire a lawyer , call the news etc..
Finally I was a police officer and Detective in the 9th Precinct for 20 years. I personally arrested the so called Stuy Town robber in 1989 who had mugged 19 , yes 19 senior citizens . Since then and I'm sure before then there had been several criminals referred to as the Stuy town robber or Stuy town rapist.
The real reason these crimes have always occurred has been the proximity to alphabet city , the subway and the men's shelter at Bellevue hospital. That is where most of the criminal element has been connected to.
My advice as a 20 year veteran of the NYPD, address the serious violent situations separately from the NYU situations. Complain and discuss both but violence should be top priority , they can't dismiss you as a chronic malcontent when it's regarding victims of violence. Complain about NYU on different days and /or with different officials.
Good Luck !
8:22 agree violent crimes are due to factors you list AND exacerbated by student lifestyle versus middle class family. Student population brings increase in public advertising, increase in drunk events and youths. PCVST was safer with a family lifestyle, even when in between the men's shelter and Tompkins Square Park.
ReplyDeleteThis is not to blame students who are a symptom and victim of the problem caused by administrator's real estate grab.
May 11, 2015 article by NYU faculty on plight of NYU students under current administration that cares more for money than anything and everything else. Placing students here is more than inconvenient, it is unsafe and purely for profiting from gouging tenants and students.
The communities, the faculty, parents of the students need to come together to stop the student gouging housing scam.
