Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.

Concerned and Serious Dan
Our councilman Dan Garodnick has been busy promoting himself, including 2 posts at the Tenants Association Facebook and 2 at the other tenants' Facebook, independent of the TA. Included in the first posts is this "I am concerned and serious" photo taken by the City Council's staff photographer William Alatriste. Perhaps this is the shot, or one of them, that Our Man Dan will use in his run for mayor of NYC or some other high position in the city government. I think the photo is kinda funny considering what Dan has actually accomplished in Stuy Town/Peter Cooper Village.
Of course such postings and a recent one from former TA president John Marsh proclaiming that Dan "is our homeboy and we are proud of him too!" are like red flags to a bull on this blog, so I can't resist taking a look at some of Dan's history and his strong ties to big business.
To be continued....
Uh, Uggggghhhhh
ReplyDeletePeter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town Tenant Association Board could use rules against temp Presidents. The short term temp Presidency harmed the community with his deep loyalty to Dan and the REBNY.
ReplyDeleteWhat Tenant Association would hire the REBNY lawyer and a PR firm with deep seeded Real Estate clients (and market their RE clients to his community as if RE didn't already get enough money from hard working people here)?
Marsh's pro Councilman Garodnick posts are transparent. Too bad Marsh/Steinberg didn't run the Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town Tenant Association PCVSTTA.ORG with same transparency.
Dan Garodnick is real estate's inside man and Marsh is Dan's inside man.
The results of the con speak for themselves, Marsh's reign as TA Presidency under Real Estate-friendly Councilman Dan Garodnick's rule eviscerated the Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town community and tree / wildlife park.
Cuomo is waging an all out press war against De Blasio on the most ridiculous story.
ReplyDeleteThe Mayor should not be risking his life and getting in the way of FDNY and NYPD in a standoff shoot out with a fire setting gang member.
De Blasio was 100% right to let the emergency workers do their work without interference or photo ops from politicians.
If that is the best they could come up with then De Blasio is in good shape.
Cuomo interfered and bungled the investigation in the prison escapees
http://hotair.com/archives/2015/06/15/did-the-ny-governor-mess-up-the-manhunt-for-fugitives/
"Cuomo’s surprise arrival at a still-unfolding escape scene a week ago Saturday generated considerable national publicity for the governor, but distracted investigators at a time when the full facts of the escape were not yet known, the sources said.
“Cuomo actually disrupted the early search efforts when he arrived at the ‘command center’ on Saturday and refused to enter the room until everyone was removed except state employees,’’ said a longtime law enforcement figure who has regular contact with many involved in the search effort.
“Cuomo’s aides came in and threw out the US marshal, the sheriff [David Favro, like Cuomo a Democrat] and others who were there to help coordinate the search effort."
Danny Boy...a two-faced slimy little weasel.
ReplyDeleteHe who was so in favor of term limits immediately ran for a third term himself as soon as he got an opportunity.
Mark my words. He will run for Comptroller or Mayor next time around.
He is in the pocket of the Big Real Estate interests. He has taken heavy contributions from them.
He voted for zoning changes which will allow for monstrous high rises.
He has done NOTHING for Stuy Town residents.
WHAT A PHONY!
Guess that makes him the perfect pol.
ReplyDeleteDeceit from Dan Garodnick is expected but it is surprising Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh went along. But after the sham April 30 meeting they dragged us to he is another Dan.
As for Langone, it is easy to get the money worshiping politicians like Cuomo to jump through hoops for you but the Pope did not jump when you said "jump" did he Kenny?! See you in church tomorrow.
I expect that when DG runs for mayor, John Marsh will be on his political team. The TA under Steinberg seems to be all at sea, not knowing where to focus now. The conversion seems to be a dead issue. CR and Fortress have just decided to wait things out and for now that seems to be working for them. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae have proven to be rotten organizations with rotten leadership no matter who's in. And Schumer for all his talk has just proven to be another run of the mill faker. I'm a fan of one aspect of Donald Trump. He tells you what the inside is like right up front. The usual politicians we get have lots going on in the background that they cover up, that they don't want you to know about because it would reveal their personal agendas and the hidden influences on them. When will we ever be spared the likes of these? Probably never.
ReplyDeleteComment if you filed for over charging of any stuy or Pcv apartment. Nothing is being done, no investigating and scam SCAM SCAM. Your paperwork has gone in the garbage. FACT.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt Langone and the REBNY control Cuomo, Schneiderman, Schumer, De Blasio, Quinn, Garodnick, Stringer to get this land and those guys control DHCR who is not addressing PCV and ST complaints!
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY agree with the earlier comment, each rent statement we get is a separate act of robbery! Equal to a robbery and home invasion because if you don't pay them the rent stub they demand they will take away your home.
That is 12 robberies each and every year they fraudulently charged tenants. That is by definition a serial criminal.
It is time the landlord criminals crimes be met with the deserved harsh punishment. No more telling them to just give back the money they stole from tenants. Criminal charges for stealing the money in the first place.
Tsk tsk to Brian K. My last hope. I can't wait to get out of this dump. At least
ReplyDeleteDONALD TRUMP isn't hiding behind anyone.
Oh Marsh, me thinks thou dost protest too much
ReplyDeleteThat serious face next to the happy face at REBNY Gala says it all
ReplyDeleteHe keeps REBNY happy while keeping up appearances as concerned for constituents
The real Dan

We filed with dhcr years ago (we are MR)
ReplyDeleteSerious Dan,
ReplyDeleteWhat have you done to keep the purchase price down and true in your so-called "tenant-bid"?
What have you done to allow the increase the purchase price in your Brookfield bid so they reap bigger profits from your partnership?
"Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town Tenant Association Board could use rules against temp Presidents. The short term temp Presidency harmed the community with his deep loyalty to Dan and the REBNY. "
ReplyDeleteWas Marsh a temp president of the TA? He was there a bloody long time to have been temporary! Is there going to be another election or did Susan Stasi just inherit the throne and it's a done deal?
11:07 AM - I don't know that the conversion is a dead deal in the minds of the TA. If you want to ask the TA a question online, they ask you if you signed the Unity Pledge and if you say "no," then you are redirected to a page where you have to sign it. Well, I think you have to sign it if you want to continue to ask your question. I just gave up because I didn't sign the Unit Pledge and I never will. The Unity Pledge is all about giving them ABSOLUTE POWER if you ever have the opportunity to buy your apartment.
Estimates put 60% of NYC apartments as "rent burdened" causing occupants to struggle to stay in their homes. 60% are struggling! Bloomberg ran NYC into the ground and current politicians are supporting REBNY in kicking us out to rebuild from the ground up new luxury buildings.
ReplyDeleteActions speak louder than words
ReplyDeleteResults speak louder than actions
Dan is not our homeboy. He is Trojan, a virus in our community
Another thing for the New York Times to investigate. NY brokers not only launder money for their clients they skirt tax laws for their clients.

Dirty sleazebags
10:30 AM: I totally agree with you. There was no reason for DeB to rush to that crime scene. There is some sort of vendetta against him and I suspect that Cuomo and Stringer are in bed together (nauseating thought) and trying to discredit DeB. I really hope that Preet Bharara gets on the stick and drags Cuomo out of the Governor's Mansion. There never was a more vindictive and corrupt governor in the history of the state. At least not the recent history. I would vote for Donald Trump before I'd vote for Cuomo. In fact, I'd vote for Donald Trump before I'd vote for Stringer or Goradnick! So, he's an asshole, but at least he doesn't pretend to be nice.
ReplyDeleteDan is very cozy with the attorneys who represent Brookfield, both in his former firm and in another major law firm where he has many friends and donors. Don't trust this little man. He is NOT a friend of tenants and he is not a friend of the NY middle class. He is an ambitious and ruthless political animal. Nothing more or less than that.
ReplyDeleteI will NEVER vote for Dan Garodnick again.
ReplyDeleteEver!
Agree it is all the incumbents and probably not De Blasio running the con in PCVST. But De Blasio is not doing anything to stop it. And yes, Kavanagh is the biggest disappointment of all.
ReplyDelete"homeboy"?
ReplyDeleteTraitor!
WE filed with the dHcr and got zip. Nada. You?
ReplyDelete"Time for you to move on CW Capital" -STPCVTA + DG
ReplyDeleteI'm shocked CW didn't heed the warning.
John Marsh was always pushing Dan's agenda.
ReplyDeleteAnother hypocritical action by the Governor
ReplyDeleteUsing eminent domain to kick citizens out for RE Ratner but won't use eminent domain to keep a children's daycare and senior citizen home.
Governor Cuomo all for using his office to hurt communities and help RE friends. Again.
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/cuomo-vetoes-bill-aimed-saving-brooklyn-senior-center-article-1.2326313
So true Marsh will either take a job on a Garodnick campaign or at the PR firm he unofficially worked for when he was helping their RE clients sell crap to residents here.
ReplyDeleteSerious Dan or Secretive Sneaky Dan
ReplyDeleteSTR your blog always makes for a good Sunday morning read. My 2 cents on the last few posts:
ReplyDeleteTaxpayers have a right to know the FDNY's dealings with the REBNY and to what degree it effects FDNY work for the public.
The FDNY spokesperson fielding calls on the fire here in Peter Cooper Village fire is suspicious and inappropriate.
Makes me believe the FDNY is covering up a lot for CompassRock and Brookfield possibly even the REBNY, and including the illegal rooms they now started measuring since STR covered it on his blog but after years of FDNY allowing CompassRock Tishman Brookfield to build the thousands of the illegal apartments.
Is FDNY any different from DOB? Corrupt people in charge of otherwise good firefighters on the front lines? I don't for a moment blame the firefighters for the administrative corruption. The men and women on the front lines are doing good work while the administrators are giving them a bad name.
The photos of the Rebny gala Liars Ball attendees are a veritable who's who of those to be investigated, indicted, in prison.
A bastion of white collar corruption.
Another shout out of thanks to STR for posting Rebny Gala photos the past two years. It explains everything. Don't it?!
Another good thing de Blasio did. He fought against Cuomo to make sure Dan did not become Speaker of the Council having power to set the agenda on votes bills issues. Just for that de Blasio may have my vote for a second term.
ReplyDeleteDan and Cuomo are destroying communities in the name of economic development, the committee Dan heads up, yes?
ReplyDeleteIf they had half a brain they would figure out how to strengthen existing communities in the name of economic development instead of removing entire communities to replace them with wealthier ones. Then probably brag about their success in bringing down the unemployment rate because the unemployed and middle class were relocated anywhere but here.
It is economic development and not economic replacement!!!!! Bloody hell.
Watch now that will become a political PR catch phrase, "we strengthen communities with economic development" while they continue to destroy communities and all with a wink and a smile and a suitcase of cash.
Cuomo has to GOMO! This guy is the worse Governor ever and his mini me wannabe Stringer Garodnick too! Do Kavanagh Hoylman Garodnick still emulate the three amigos Skelos Silver Cuomo or have they stopped that nonsense?
ReplyDelete3:58 What is the name of the other firm Dan is in bed with? (though certainly there are many)
ReplyDeleteThere are too many dirty deeds going down in Stuy Town
Yes let's all pay three times what our apartments are worth at $4.7 billion to cover Robbie's debt. Thanks Dan. We are out of the Unity Pledge.
ReplyDelete3 02. No matter - many many entities are wiling to pay more than 5 billion. And it is worth more. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteThis photo was used on his announcement for his group that is redundant with the other worst landlord list group that De Blasio started. Why not support the existing one? Why this new one, and why after destabilizing Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town would anyone believe Garodnick or his group could stabilize the whole city? If he cannot stabilize his community how on earth could he stabilize the city?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.capitalnewyork.com/article/city-hall/2015/08/8573908/council-backed-tenant-advocacy-group-targets-bad-landlords#
Can someone explain this because it makes no sense.
It is only worth more if they can continue their cover up of the contamination beneath us and the dhcr cover up on our rent overcharges. Just sayin...
ReplyDelete3:02 pm: it is only worth more if all the existing buildings are razed. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteThey can't raze the buildings if the ground is unsafe to dig up. The contamination below PCVST is deadly and the councilman knows this. Those living near dig sites are exposed to hazardous toxins.
ReplyDeleteThe councilman and his owners, REBNY, CWCapital, know that the ground under PCVST is contaminated. AND THEY DONT CARE!
ReplyDeleteThey went about that dig to build the fucking "bunker" knowing full well that tenants, including babies, young children and pregnant women were being bombarded with toxins. If there are health problems related to that enterprise some years down the road, YOU KNOW WHO TO BLAME, FOLKS. Susan Steinberg and John Marsh were totally on board with that project. They have no conscience.
We need a thorough investigation of all the cover ups and lies and eventually that will happen. Stay tuned.
DG is our "homeboy". Word up yo. At least the marsh was drained....
ReplyDeleteWhen Tishman Speyer "bought" this property, didn't they do any due diligence and find out that it is built on a toxic gas dump? Who in their right minds acquires such a property and then proceeds to do major renovations, exposing tenants to all kinds of toxins? Then CW acquires it and does even more digging and excavating. There's a special place in Hell for these monsters, but before they get there they should spend a few years in jail. Maybe when the original owner was in charge it wasn't hazardous because they weren't always trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and rake in every last cent by doing massive renovations in order to maximize occupancy. Maybe the older tenants know all about this, but didn't worry because all the poison was contained underground or behind sealed walls. Now, with all the gut renovations, this place is probably more toxic than Yucca Flats after the blasts!
ReplyDeleteThere will be illnesses and birth defects as a result of what these greedy, amoral bastards have done. The TA wants to buy this place? Puhleeeze! Sure I want to sink my money in an apartment in a building that is built on a toxic waste dump and is probably full of all kinds of asbestos and other deadly materials. I would have to hate my kids to raise them here for any longer. The parents of the students should be aware of the situation too. We're out of here asap.
Asbestos, lead and every 1940s toxin in the shoddy building materials used when this place was cobbled together and all sitting atop a toxic dump. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteSTR covered the deadly contamination last year with the ConEd responsibilities, DEC responsibilities, and how in their contract Tishman Speyer planned on passing on the responsibility to new owners, washing their hands and MetLife's hands completely. A tenant purchase means tenants are responsible for lawsuits from contamination and not Brookfield, Fortress, CompassRock, MetLife, Tishman, ConEd, etc
ReplyDeleteAll of these entities and people are members of the REBNY.
Of all their dirty deeds and secrets this one is the lowest form of depravity.
Don't ever delude yourself that Garodnick is pro-tenant. He is pushing for a "tenant-led" purchase and that means a predatory deal for Brookfield. He is NOT our friend in any way, shape or form. The sooner he is GONE the better.
ReplyDeleteDid you watch 60 minutes? New floors installed today made in China are deadly toxic especially to children.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cbsnews.com/news/lumber-liquidators-linked-to-health-and-safety-violations/
Their stock rose at an unheard of pace raising red flags - after they were already caught for illegal logging by the DOJ. But the DOJ way with corporate criminals is not arrest, but just pay us a "fine" and we will let you keep operating. Illegal logging one day, toxic floors in hundreds of thousands of American homes the next day.
The unheard of pace their stock rose is rivaled by the unheard of pace our rent roll rose that fell on the councilman's deaf ears.

ReplyDelete"When Tishman Speyer "bought" this property, didn't they do any due diligence and find out that it is built on a toxic gas dump?"
You won't find much media publication about it without very specific www searches and no lease agent will ever mention it, but it's been fairly common knowledge among residents that Con Ed has been monitoring hazardous chemical presence underground at PCVST dating back at least 20 years. Speyer's idiot son is a fool, but he had lawyers. The MetLife to Speyer sale contract covered potential repercussions. Furthermore, locating Manhattan land that does not have something hazardous underground would be unusual and may not add much value to it. There are many worse underground hazards. Would you rather have a subway line running under your home?
"The TA wants to buy this place? Puhleeeze! Sure I want to sink my money in an apartment in a building that is built on a toxic waste dump"
For 5 years Garodnick and the TA have been lying to tenants about owning PCVST. It's amazing how many still believe their disgraceful deceit. Maybe they're hypnotists? Despite lobbyist spin successfully manipulating most media coverage, Garodnick-TA nonstop repeating the same lie again and again will never transform their lying into truth. Garodnick and the TA are scamming a phony "tenant led purchase" wherein PCVST tenants will indeed "buy" PCVST, but never "own" anything. Under Garodnick-TA leadership tenants will buy the entire PCVST complex, including their homes, for Brookfield. The TA is merely a shell vehicle exploited by Garodnick, Brookfield, Moelis and Paul Weiss to snatch exclusive access to Fannie/Freddie purchase funding and the opportunity to own/control PCVST away from tenants.
You'll never buy your home built on a toxic waste dump? Garodnick-TA-Brookfield love you! If you're not earning $200,000/yr and paying $5,000/mo rent, they have no intention of ever selling you an expensive, tiny discount Brookfield condo you could never possibly afford to purchase. In exchange for duped PCVST tenants' exclusive access to Fannie/Freddie billions, Garodnick and the TA forced Brookfield to promise it will not violate RS laws protecting tenants (Bloomberg and Speyer made the same promise). That worthless Brookfield promise costing Brookfield nothing will not protect you after Brookfield sells your home to NYU, or Beth Israel, or a hedge fund, or... Your new corporate landlord will not make that same worthless promise and will do everything possible to harass you out of their investment.
"in their contract Tishman Speyer planned on passing on the responsibility to new owners, washing their hands and MetLife's hands completely. A tenant purchase means tenants are responsible for lawsuits"
ReplyDeleteSpeyer defaulted and walked away. When did they plan on selling to new owners? Absent specific sale contract provisions allocating liability to prior owners, known hazards and liability run with the land. That's why buyers routinely procure hazard liability insurance.
It is true, a few feet beneath the surface are banned pesticides, toxins, chemicals, petroleum, and poisons of all kinds that must remain buried.
ReplyDeleteWith Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town being the biggest victim of predatory equity why is it front and center in Dan's stabilize nyc plan or even mentioned? Where was he during our Albany protests?
ReplyDelete"It is true, a few feet beneath the surface are banned pesticides, toxins, chemicals, petroleum, and poisons of all kinds that must remain buried."
ReplyDeleteSo what the hell is in our drinking water? Can't get out of this place fast enough. Sleazy, lying management, midterm rent increases, college students hooting and braying all night. No place to raise children. Ya know what? The college kids can have it. They are so brain dead to begin with, no toxic waste could make them worse.
The beneath surface contamination is really bad, deadly. All the tenants at the bunker site are exposed.
ReplyDelete5:22 am, I think there will be some major law suits over the building of the bunker as soon as the health problems and birth defects start to manifest. Garodnick and the TA will be defendents.
ReplyDelete
