A Step in the Right Direction?

Let's see how far this goes. Personally, I think the DoB should be investigated and its continual rubber stamping of anything real estate and construction wants. https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20151223/upper-east-side/hold-agencies-handling-after-hours-construction-permits-accountable-pols

  1. I see that Garodnick was one of the signatories of that letter. Too bad he didn't feel moved to protest when CW was torturing the tenants of the buildings overlooking The Bunker. What people went through during that fiasco was actionable, in my opinion. Companies like CW and CR have a feudal system mentality. They feel they can do anything and everything they want and the "peasants" (even those paying upwards of $5k per month to live here) just have to suck it up. The noise, filth and contamination was something you might expect a third world shithole nation to inflict on its citizens, but that is how NYC is run thanks to the corrupt assholes in City Government (especially the City Council) who pay lip service to supporting the rights of the people they are paid to represent, but really do whatever their "benefactors" want them to do.

No matter how much you act like a champion of tenants' rights, Danny Boy, we know who and what you really are and we will never forget or forgive.

  2. Are you kidding me? Garodnick signs a letter because construction is bothering his upper east side constituents but for us he holds a meeting to push the construction on us? Double standard much.

  3. A letter? That is the best the city council will do for citizens, another ineffective letter.

  4. Wow another Dan shocker... NOT! Where was his backing of PCVST with construction? Where was his backing of Ms. Chowes when she fought the construction noise?

Now we know where PCVST stands vs. the UES in terms of Dan's priorities...

  5. We have long been aware of Garodnick's double standards and double talking when it comes to STPCV tenants. He only just woke up to the fact that we had a serious problem with management refusing to take care of plumbing problems, even if the tenant was treading water! I guess his terlit must have backed up!

  6. Dan G is one of the most opportunistic, scum-sucking bottom feeders who was ever "elected" to office. If the electorate had not been sold out by that ugly vile beast, Christine Quinn, in her attempt to crawl up Bloomber's ass, third terms would not have happened for any of the politicians. Goradnick lucked out and kept his job by a whisker. Too bad for us that he squeaked back into office. No more of these opportunistic liars. Out with DeBlasio and all of the current City Council. We voters have to make ourselves heard loudly and clearly.

  7. Garodnick is not our friend.

  8. Or maybe there is an investigation about to blow the DOB scam wide open and the city council is trying to look like they are on the right side of the scandal when all along they have been on the DOB side like Dan at his DOB Landlord bunker meeting. If the DOB is dirty so is the City Council, and State pols who approve and push the city construction through the streamlined sped up DOB process.

  9. OK... I'm sorry for the 1% suffering on the UES, but it is the day after Xmas and the man/boy skaters are back lobbing slap shots at the walls of the rink, treating me and everyone who lives around the Oval (up through the 12th floors) to the bombs of a war zone from 9:45 this AM. YEA! It's Saturday, it's the day after Xmas, and that skating rink wants their $$$ so they won't police the boys on the ice. Can you imagine them building a skating rink in Gramercy Park? OR a bouncy house, and bad concerts? They have a jewel here and they are grabbing pennies instead of turning it into the diamond it could be. Stupid.

  10. And PS to my post about the ice rink ... there are 3 guys down there. 3 guys setting off hockey bombs resonating in every single apartment that sits around the Oval. YEA! Merry Xmas to those guys!!!

  11. I was passing by the Ice Rink this morning and couldn't believe how loud those shots against the boards were! At that point, I completely understood how disruptive that sharp sound can be to those living around the rink. So for the enjoyment of a few (and, yes, it seemed no more than three at the time), many tenants have to endure.

  12. Maybe a call to 311 about the noise would help? I can't believe how abusive this so-called landlord has been to the tenants just for the sake of a few dollars. I hope Blackstone rights some of these wrongs, but I'm not holding my breath.

  13. I feel bad for those enduring the bro hockey rink slap shot orgy.

Call 311 and make as many complaints as possible.

Keep calling. Get a record of your complaints and keep calling.

Management here is a cruel, uncaring, greedy overlord.

I suppose that as long as the noise doesn't bother Dan G, he'll do nothing to stand up for his constituents.

    Sad, but true.

  15. More like another step in the same direction. A letter from politicians, headlines for politicians, and nothing changes. More of the same everywhere:

"Albany is all about money — grabbing for it, ladling it out, stealing it. The game is rigged for all three — and Cuomo, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan are masters at the play, just like Silver and Skelos."

  16. Could HPD help with this? It sounds very much like tenant harassment. If it was the UES, Garodnick would step in.

  17. Now this is the type of vigilante PCV ST needed from the TA. But instead we got a vigilante going after our RS tenants slammed with false accusations and golub and TA illegal hotel investigations which there are NONE! Yet we have illegal construction and fraudulent DOB paperwork just like our neighbors in Chelsea! Shame on the TA! Shame on our representatives! Shame on the City for putting the policing of DOB on the shoulders of citizens!

    This is an excellent article.

Vigilant Tenants Document Fraud and Take Action

BY EILEEN STUKANE | Over the decades, residents of 517-525 W. 45th St., a complex of five buildings of various heights, have outlasted a turnover of owners who thought they could harass tenants into leaving their grandfathered loft dwellings. The wave that is breaking over the city — tenant harassment by landlord construction — had already toughened the W. 45th St. residents, who were alert to change and ready for the new owner, Offir Naim, who purchased the complex in July 2014.

They soon learned that his plan was to construct additional stories on their buildings to make them all taller — however, they felt the owner’s NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) application for this work contained fraudulent information. The burden of proof rested on their shoulders, but tenants say that even with proof in hand, their major difficulty is what seems to be a lack of interest by DOB officials to acknowledge falsified documents and halt an approval process, signaling a system badly in need of change.

...Had the tenants of 517-525 W. 45th St. not remained vigilant, nor spent the $1000 needed for their personal surveyor, would the owner’s application have marched forward unimpeded?

Right now the application for these buildings is on the DOB’s radar, but only because tenants have pushed, prodded, and remained determined. Unfortunately, a time-consuming vigilance is all too frequently needed in order to live in New York City today.

  19. It is tenant harassment.

Management wants people to move out.

  20. Just ten years ago this was the best place in the world to live. The most peaceful place in Manhattan. Cool breezes, no crime. What a mess these "developer real estate people" make of everything they touch.

    ReplyDelete
  21. There is no direction here. This place is completely out of control.

  22. Am I to understand that the blizzard of golub notices came as a result of those two old ladies on the TA board who went after AirbnB-type subletting and were written about in the NYT?

  23. I hope that Preet Bharara goes after the DOB and really turns it inside-out. It has to be the most corrupt agency in New York. When the crooks at the DOB are flushed out, their "benefactors" will be flushed out with them. The corruption in this City is unbelievable. A third world country living under a junta or dictatorship would look positively clean compared to NY.
