Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.

So How Long Do We Wait?
Before we can make an assessment about our new landlord, Blackstone and Ivanhoe?
The "deal" was accepted in late October and our new landlord officially took over a week ago. One would think that in November and December (almost to end) the wheels must have been turning as to how to manage this property and what changes are going to be necessary. The tenant survey is done, the results are in.
For sure, I'm an impatient fellow here, but I'd like to see something start changing for the better soon. Right now, there seems to be no change at all, but just a continual sinking.
There's a guy right now walking around the Oval, periodically restraining a muscular white pit-bull or pit-bull mix with no blue ST/PCV tag. Scenes like this happen all the time in this complex. No Public Safety officer around, and even if there was one, I doubt this dog owner would be approached.

Marsh Doyle and Steinberg's "new stabilizers" that fit de Blasio's definition of affordable housing. Don't count on protecting yourself in the courts, Blackstone and Cuomo control the judges. They want all RS who have lived in their homes for decades GONE. Albany is almost done wiping out 30,000 citizens from their homes!

public safety is a big issue, i called the other day to report a family playing baseball in a grassy area. the kids were around nine but they had trouble getting over the fence. now it looks all mashed and bent. security said they would go right over and talk to them. but of course security never showed.

ReplyDeleteBlackstone will have to spend more money here than CW. Hire more Public Safety officers, plumbers and maintenance staff. We know they have enough leaf-blowers, so that should be okay.
ReplyDeleteIf we want things to change, we too have to change. We have to get serious when we speak up and report the names of the noisy party neighbors to 311, report to 311 the noise complaints from that slamming, migraine causing, hockey rink, stop complaining about security and instead elevate the complaints to higher and higher places until they stop ruining our right to a peaceful home. Record the decibel sound of each whistle, goal scream, hockey puck slam, and everything that violates our warranty of habitability. Elevate the complaints. Don't waste time on complaints to places that are not getting addressed, like the TA, or the councilman Office, or whatever. Report the complaints where it at least gets on the record.
ReplyDeleteWhy are tenants saying Compass Rock will leave when Blackstone already said the same management people will stay who have been here for years? They have to. They still have to finish what they started and probably Blackstone wants to look like their hands are clean. We have had the same management people in place from MetLife to Rose to Tishman Speyer to Compass Rock. The same security officers from MetLife are called Compass Rock security. What do they have to do to change the name of the security officers and company and payroll to Compass Rock Security? Why change it all to Compass Rock Security and not keep it as PCVST security? Who are they protecting, Compass Rock?

ReplyDeleteThey can start, bit by bit. The easiest thing would be to start Public Safety ticketing dog owners who are violating the dog rules. Of course, that would mean we'd have to see Public Safety around the complex far, far more than we do.
And they have to get rid of CompassRock.

ReplyDeleteJust saw (2:00pm on Monday) security van #9 rushing up the service road on 1st avenue in PCV. Lights on, it blew through a red light on 22nd and almost hit a little kid. The rush?? A Starbucks run!!

How is Compass Rock still here? If they listened to anything the tenants had to say, Compass Rock would have been gone on Day 1. Definitely not a good start that they haven't figured out a better management option yet. They had 2 months to figure it out while the sale was finalized. GET COMPASS ROCK OUT!!

Unfortunately, the college bros who have turned Stuy Town into an NYU dorm have NO CLASS. The hallways and elevators reek of weed. Smoking weed on the steps of the buildings is now par for the course.

ReplyDeleteWe would get behind De Blasio progressive proactive principles if he would speak to us tenants and work with us tenants and not with the old school Garodnick Bloomberg Quinn agenda that ruined this community for their campus but De Blasio seems to support the campus and the ferry traffic and pollution. Having to stops so close together at 20th and 34th is plain stupid for the amount of fuel, exhaust needed to angle in and out that closely.
Kathy Wilde is right Bloomberg (Quinn / Garodnick) is reactive to the powerful Partnership for New York. Driven by data, quantity (of dollars) and not quality (of life). Reactive in looking for new ideas instead of coming with new ideas.
New Yorkers have had enough of the Wilde Partnership and the Speyer Committee and the politicians who react to whatever those groups want. It is an uphill battle De Blasio is fighting against old Bloomberg establishment but worth fighting to keep some semblance of New York for real New Yorkers. If De Blasio would wake up he would see he already has people who will advance his principles he campaigned on, a lot of us citizens all who voted for him.

Focusing on subjective, small gripes on Quality Of Life is what they want us to do so they can continue the bigger assaults on our Quality Of Life and they can quell our complaints with little fixes on little problems they create to distract us from the bigger issues. Tenants have zero real accomplishments because the tenant association keeps us focused on small gripes and that is how the politicians operate. Then they give the people small victories to quiet us and keep clear their path for the bigger assaults on quality of life.
ReplyDeleteTop priority must be to restore the necessary operations maintenance CW stripped to at-risk levels to rig the numbers in the "sale" including plumbing, waste management, functioning & clean laundry rooms, twice daily hosed walkways, more rakes with fewer leaf blowers and the likes. (Those leaf blowers are the slowest workers, has anyone ever watched them?? a person with a rake could clear the area of leaves faster than those guys using the blowers).
Another top priority must be to address, refund and remove the illegal MCI applications put on tenants especially the NY State college campus security MCI (and having the universities pay for student University Police instead of using our tenant security lessening our security resources and therefore safety), and the unequal allocation of the MCI charges discriminating against the Rent Stabilized tenants. Followed by real and stronger tenant representation on MCI matters. (Marsh) Steinberg Collins Dobkins is not it.
Stronger, real tenant leadership that does as these tenants did in Chelsea giving the corrupt stonewalling DOB a run for their RE-bribed money(thanks earlier commentator for the link) and who reports on record the noise complaints of the Rink, circus tent, horrible de Blasio NYC concerts in the oval,. Tenant leadership that amplifies tenant's voices and not quiets tenant's voices as Marsh Steinberg Doyle do. Steinberg Tenant Association can keep their Blackstone partnership gig but it would be good for a lot of tenants if anyone knows of strong tenants in their buildings who can form a real tenant advocacy group to even the field against the Steinberg Garodnick RE aligned side who have paved way for constriction of open spaces, commercialization of the oval, arboricide, noise polluting mini-sports arenas, and the upcoming air and noise polluting ferry that Steinberg needed to be honest about and tell tenants of the real true certainty of its planning and development, the things the tenants on this blog have been exposing that have been going on for years, the Speyer ferry fundraisers, ferry route maps, who is behind it and how far it is in the development process. Steinberg operates like a Hoylman and Garodnick and that is good for RE and not good for the tenants.

ReplyDeleteMy neighbors do toke in their apartment and the rest of us have to put rolled-up towels up against the bottom of our doors because the stench permeates the hall and gets into our apartments. A cigarette-smoker who did that would be hanged at dawn.
I've also called the police Atomic Man. They said that they would report it to management and send me a copy of their report as well. So it DOES work to some degree.

If it's the bottom tier employees that have been around through the changes in management, that's one thing. If it's the "brains" from CW/CompassRock who have been running this place, then we are in trouble.

ReplyDeleteSorry, not true. Instead of calling PS, I did the 311 on line complaint for a Bro/Dorm style apartment big blast party. Of course, they have no rugs but that's SOP. NYPD responded and shut down the party. BTW, this was on Saturday nite.
