Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.

27-year-old Stuy Town Resident Gropes 28-year-old ST Resident in Laundry Room
Does the groper live in her building? in Stuyvesant Town? Isn't that something the community should know. Why leave out his address? The last attacker they gave his East Village address, his celebrity family relationship to Rosario Dawson. As I type this I realize I am saying "the last attacker" as it this is now a common occurrence here. Ugh.
and what in the hell is stuytown going to do? nothing, they do nothing.
They'll probably just ask the poor dear to call back on Monday when XY is in and he'll get back to her. They're just pushing everyone around 'o sorry, you were attacked? we really frown on that here. I am going to forward your info to our YXZ department and have them give you a call, ok?"
There's something odd about this. We don't know if the groper and the person he groped knew each other. This may not be a case of a stranger coming into the laundry room and groping a female. How did PS and the police know which apartment the groper lived in? There may be more here than "meets the eye."

You know, we have this legal principal here in America called "the presumption of innocence". You expect management to immediately evict the guy? That'd pretty much guarantee a civil lawsuit, and a big payout to the alleged perp and his lawyer.
>>STR, even if they knew each other she had the right to object to him touching her. No means "NO."<<
Did I say or imply otherwise???
My point being, which I hope is obvious, is that there is probably more to this story than what we may initially suppose: a stranger following a woman to the laundry room and groping her. That scenario could be more frightening to women in the complex than, let's say, a boyfriend groping a girlfriend after a squabble.
" How did PS and the police know which apartment the groper lived in? "
This may be part of the answer. The laundry room is under video surveillance. As is the T-level lobby. As are the elevators. As are the staircases now. It would be very easy to track the perp with the victim’s help from the crime scène back to the the floor and even the wing of the apartments he lives in, then check the tenant/occupant roll for those apartments. Or as per one your assumptions, the victim knew the perp then the vid just confirms the crime, no need to track.
8:47, maybe you live on the other side of the Berlin wall, but here in my building in Stuy Town, there are no cameras in the laundry rooms or stairwells.
As the person who was groped, and just stumbled across this thread because of the most recent assault- here are the answers. No I had never met him before, no there are no cameras, yes he lived in the building, yes he is gone, no I'm not a student, and yes it went to trial.

Welcome to life at Stuy Town, Mr. Hayduk. Good luck! Your gunna need it!
ReplyDeleteThe T&V blog post gives the address, not just "14th Street Loop".
ReplyDelete"449 East 14th Street"

ReplyDeleteI guess we can be thankful that both news posts say Stuyvesant Town instead of "Gramercy".
ReplyDeleteAre there security cameras in the laundry rooms? There should be.
ReplyDeleteSTR, even if they knew each other she had the right to object to him touching her. No means "NO."
ReplyDeleteSounds like a case for the Dorm Cops, my RA informed me that using the Oval Ammenities is the only way safe to get clean clothes.

Evict ? No one gets evicted here !! It's a free for all, do whatever you want.
ReplyDeleteTommyboy, what do mean? Do they have laundry equipment at Oval Amenities?
