  1. Another epic fail by the corrupt DOB

  2. Whoever inspected it yesterday and / or whoever lowered it today rushed without proper safety measures. This is very bad.

    Crane Operator’s License Is Suspended

Same DOB game of inspections that find nothing wrong after citizens do the right thing and call in a legitimate complaint

On March 8, a complaint of an unsafe, unlicensed crane at 80 Maiden Lane was lodged with the Buildings Department. An inspection the next day found no crane, and no citation was issued, according to department records.

Investigators said Mr. Cosban’s lapse — he did not lower the boom as far as it could go — contributed to the accident but might not have been the sole cause. They said that they were looking into whether mechanical failure was a factor and that they might issue further citations.

The crane’s boom slowly listed just after 7 p.m. Saturday, after its crew had left for the day. It landed with a crash against the building, at 80 Maiden Lane, where it had earlier been hoisting air-conditioning equipment to the roof, and stayed there, leaning across a triangular plaza; work continued overnight and into Sunday morning to remove it.

Five nearby buildings were evacuated, and no one was injured. But the accident concerned officials and residents, coming almost exactly two years after the first of a pair of crane accidents that killed nine people in March and May 2008, and four days after the city’s former top crane inspector, James Delayo, admitted taking bribes to falsify crane licensing and inspections. The charges were not linked to the deaths, but the authorities portrayed his case as part of a pattern of corruption and incompetence that compromised safety enforcement.

  5. I spoke with numerous people that were concerned about this exact crane. Calls were placed and shrugged off within the past few days.

Someone's head needs to roll for this one. How many more unavoidable accidents will it take?

  8. Somebody/bodies need to be charged with negligent homicide. That crane was left extended overnight and was signed off as safe by some corrupt bastard son of a bitch working for DOB.

Wait until Garodnick's and his corrupt crony developer donors start on the "Vanderbilt Corridor." Every pedestrian and commuter will need a hard hat and a hazmat mask. I am so sick of this City being so unlivable. The crime is up (regardless of what the Liars DeBlasio and Bratton say. I feel less safe now than I did in the 70s and 80s.

  10. Mayor DeBlasio and the City Council (especially Dan Garodnick) are at least partially responsible for this.

  11. BTW, I can't let comments through that make charges against specific people.

  12. REBNY and their enforcers (our elected so-called representatives) will do something that the terrorists have not been successful in doing: they will bring us to our knees. We don't need terrorist attacks so long as we have fucking REBNY and DOB to kill us!

  13. The way DOB handles citizen complaints is abysmal
