Unbelievable but believable

So Blackstone is introducing a new "rule"--composting. Yes, downstairs in the recycle area will be a special bin waiting for your discarded chicken wings and other edible refuse.

Now you would think that someone with a brain would first enforce the rules already in place, but I see no reduction in speeding bicycles, skateboards, etc., around the Oval, I see no reduction in the amount of dog piss and crap that's all over the place (see photos in another post), but yes you expect me and the thousands of residents to contribute discarded chicken wings to your compost. You must be crazy. Of course you are not and will promote composting on your website for the plebs to see.

But you are a FAILURE. Unless you enforce the rules already in place. Do something, damn it, and stop with the smelly, diesel-spewing and noisy zambonis! There is a reason all operators wear a mask while the pedestrians don't.

  1. Incidentally, this morning, near the Oval Fountain, I had to search for a place that wasn't inhabited by dozens of flies. I've never seen so many flies here in Stuy Town. It's either a result of the dog explosion or the eating explosion (or both) but there are a lot of flies! Thank you, Blackstone. You are doing a wonderful job.

  2. Another one of the most stupidest things management comes up with around here. The Porters are really going to happy about this one. This place continues to be out of control. OUT OF CONTROL!

    ReplyDelete
  3. This is a gross dumb idea and healthy hazard?

But our porter is so lazy and angry, he won't do it anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I hope this isn't going to be "mandatory" because I have no intention of doing it. The recycling areas are already filthy and vermin-ridden because of the stupid slobs who throw their "organic" garbage down there along with their dirty recyclables. They can go fuck themselves.

  5. I thought this was worth reposting from an earlier thread.

"Management's latest "initiative" is composting. They want us to use brown bins to compost our food waste. Considering that they haven't even managed to get the current clown show of tenants to recycle properly, how the hell do they expect people to compost correctly? People already leave every thing, including organic waste, in any and every recycling bin and I'm pretty sure that nobody is going to take any notice of the brown bins (except maybe to drop their bottles and dirty cans into them) so this is really an outstanding example of how out of touch Management is with the way people live here.

When Management finally "manages" to get tenants and non-tenants to obey the basic rules concerning safety (bikes and skateboards come to mind) and basic recycling protocols, then they should come out with something as progressive as organic composting. Since they haven't even grasped the rudiments in making tenants obey basic rules, let them take their composting and shove it where the sun don't shine! Composting is an admirable concept, but not in a place as lawless and badly managed as this dump. I can't believe how "pie-in-the-sky" out of touch this management company is. They must all be on drugs.
Enforce basic safety and noise rules first, you ASSHOLES, and then ask us to compost and get with the progressive program!"

  6. It's really gotten to the point where it is embarrassing to live here. Trump would have had ALL of them fired by now. Enough of this nonsense. ENOUGH!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Hahahahaha! I hope they are doubling the porters pay, since they have to sort through recycling bins to pick out the garbage that people put in them all day, every day.

Out of control is an understatement. Complete stupidity is an understatement. I just laugh!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. So what are you going to do with your to-the-bone chicken wings? LOL. This place is ridiculous! Anyone want some discarded pizza slices and chicken wings? You can carry them downstairs to the special recycle bin, which is going to smell....

    ReplyDelete
  9. Does this mean they will be shutting off all of the garbage chutes? I hope not. People put dirty diapers (adult and infant) down the chutes. Hopefully, they bag them first, but with the progressive idea of eliminating plastic shopping bags by forcing people to pay for them, there may be no option but to put them down the chute unwrapped. Other stuff has to go down the chute, too. Not everything is recyclable or organic. The recycling rooms are already nasty, no matter how hard the porters work, because of people who throw dirty stuff in the bins and who take their kitchen refuse all mixed up with recyclable items and just dump it.

Is Blackstone getting some kind of tax relief or some other kind of remuneration for this? I can't see them doing anything that doesn't bring in dollars for them because they're just not that kind of people. Money is all that matters to them, so they must be getting something in return for this "initiative," and I doubt it is the satisfaction of helping the planet.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Why even bother. The students around here throw their garbage out the window anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Composting is becoming city-wide for a good reason. Curious why they did not choose to place these bins outdoors.

    ReplyDelete
  14. More rats and roaches anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  15. 12.38.

Great post. My "Stytown" recycle area is a disaster almost every night, especially on weekends, regular garbage mixed in with the re-cycle items. The “Children of the Corn” transient demo they market this place to, who can change roommates on a quarterly basis, dump their stuff when they move in the hallways, the lobbies and the re-cycle rooms, never mind the approved loop locations in the loop roads. That lease rule plus the other lease rule that are violated all the time that are posted on signs, on the official webpage or in the lease itself (such as propping the security doors open for the constant moves) bodes ill indeed for any type of compliance for composting. The vermin increase in these rooms will be off the charts. This is a PR stunt, nothing more.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Totally ridiculous.

And moronic. Like I'm gonna bring down my chicken bones and banana peels. Maybe down on the farm but certainly not here!

    ReplyDelete
  17. What kind of fucking morons run the place ? Do they think that because it's a noble and ecologically beneficial endeavor, that the rats, roaches, mice and other vermin will simply ignore the pile of nice stinky refuse now sitting in every carriage room ?? Are they out of their goddammed minds ??

    ReplyDelete
  18. aint nobody doubling the cranky porters pay, cause we ain't payin it or tipping them.

    ReplyDelete
  19. As someone who lives on the main floor , I am really looking forward to the influx of vermin from the misuse of these composting bins in the basement just below me. I regularly see garbage in the recycling bin . What an idiotic idea to have composting inside an apartment building where some tenants are incapable of throwing out garbage or recycling properly

    ReplyDelete
  20. what about mice and rats?

    ReplyDelete
  21. From the Yelp reviews it looks like the "Occupants" in the bulk leases they are using to make money while warehousing apartments towards demolition numbers are having a hard time with management too.

    ReplyDelete
  22. i'm going to post a review too on yelp. i'm so over and done with this place.

    ReplyDelete
  23. What are these "bulk leases" and who are the leaseholders? Never heard of this before. Am I to understand that one person or entity can have multiple leases and rent space in those units to multiple "occupants?" Is this even legal?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Composting? Are they for real or is this an early April Fool joke? They think they are going to make us compost? They must be crazy! They can't even enforce the recycling laws - which happen to be the laws of the City - and they have ZERO success with enforcing any of the other "House Rules!" LMFAO!! Let's see them enforce the rules about speeding bicycles, uncarpeted floors, assholes renting or guesting unregistered "guests" for indeterminate lengths of time, the AirBnB situation (which I think is actually fostered and condoned by Management) and THEN tell us real tenants that we have to compost!

Yo Rick, go back to Boca where you don't have to really work and all the little old ladies think you are the cutest thing since Depends. You don't belong in New York City and we don't like you or need you here. Make this place a livable, clean and decent residential property and treat tenants, especially real tenants who are not just passing through, with the respect you would like us to have for you and THEN come back and talk to us about composting.

    ReplyDelete
  25. and roll back the rents before you leave Rick - hell is an awful place.

    ReplyDelete
  26. the AirBnB situation (which I think is actually fostered and condoned by Management) - you got that right. It started with Bloomberg who is a fan of Airbnb and a business partner. New York City has been in partnerships with Airbnb for a long time even during Hurricane Sandy and even here in Stuyvesant Town.

"In another speech on Monday at a financial services trade group, Bloomberg joked that he had a backup plan if his media giant company tanked — he’d rent out his Upper East Side mansion on Airbnb."

    ReplyDelete
  29. From the Post article: “We are extremely enthusiastic about the program,” said Ellen Schall, chair of NYU’s Affordability Steering Committee. “The cost of housing is a significant challenge for many students.”

Typical BS, and I would be looking to fire Ms. Schall. But that's me. Others may want to give her another game.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Maybe they can teach the bros and hos to puke into the compost bins. Problem solved.

    ReplyDelete
  31. That is morbid to house transients with seniors presuming both will be gone in a short period of time. Not to mention that seniors are at a completely different stage of developed values and morality than a student who is just beginning to develop them. 30 year olds living at home with their parents and students living with grandparents crammed into de Blasio denser housing while luxury condos massive in size are built for the wealthy. This sounds like abusive Goldman Sachs.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Just read the Yelp page --- November 19, 2016 at 3:00 PM --- or stop by the security office where there are always "occupants" having problems living here --- there are so many nonpermanent residents we now have "occupants on every floor of every building.

    ReplyDelete
  39. 12:01 PM That article by Linda Stasi really is right on target. Manhattan is going to get even more uncool now that Fifth Avenue and adjacent streets will be closed frequently and pedestrians will be subject to stop and frisk because of the activity at Trump Tower.

Why would tourists want to come here when the City is impassable and filled with an army of grim-faced police that make it look like a totaliterian police state? When tourists can't get to the things they want to visit, CP, Rock Center, the stores with their Holiday windows, etc., and the rich can't get into Gucci's Tiffanys, etc, Manhattan will lose a boatload of revenue and the bill to the taxpayers and dearth of police protection elsewhere in the borough will not improve the quality of life. I hope the fallout makes property values drop and some of these amoral developers and the politicians they own have their big high rise hopes backfire in their ugly faces.

  41. No Outside Garbage! This comes on the heels of management removing all StuyTown perimeter garbage cans for fear of outside/non-resident usage. Who comes up with these ideas, we would be better off managed by chimpanzee's than this collection of canucks

    ReplyDelete
  42. There is a back-alley like area behind our building near Garage 5 where "outside/non-resident usage" would not happen. It is unseen from the sidewalks and roads and that is why all the Oval construction workers used to take a piss there. The composting could be put there.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Why did they remove the garbage cans around the perimeter? Would they prefer that outsiders throw their trash on the street or through the fences? We all know that there are very few people who will carry their trash too far in search of a receptacle. They also should realize that the recycling efforts on this property have failed rather abysmally because, even though many people of good will recycle correctly, the vast majority (especially those from the burbs and flyover states) don't. Either they don't know how or don't care.

I agree with 8:45 AM. A bunch of chimpanzees would run the property better, or at least no worse!

  45. "This place is a toilet."

It really is. Fortunately we have this blog as an alternative to all of the comical reviews of this housing project on the stuy town web site. For this, we all have STR to thank. Hopefully people will read this blog before making a very big mistake and signing a lease.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Instead of tackling one thing at a time, they are trying to tackle 10. Why not get noise under wraps, then move to bikes, then dogs, then recycling, then door entries, then composting (in no particular order)?

If they spent 2-3 months really enforcing one thing, people might notice. Instead they introduce something else they can't enforce with composting.

Give me Ricks job, and security will be out there earning their paycheck.

Nice job Rick, YOU PHONY! By the way, my carriage room filed with bikes, is an absolute fire hazard. Bikes are piled on top of each other, not chained up in certain areas, and there is no where to pass by. Check out 19 stuy oval, and you'll
see what I mean. FIRE HAZARD! I've lived here for almost 9 years, AND HAVE HAD IT!

    ReplyDelete
  53. >>Does anyone really read Yelp ?<<

Once in a while. Yes. Interesting commentary, which shouldn't make the boss proud.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I know how to begin to turn this place around, but I'd be quickly fired or moved on by Blackstone. I would not be too concerned about the bottom line, but would do things right. You probably could do the job, too, if Blackstone would let you.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I always read Yelp and other review sites before I make a commitment regarding money, healthcare, etc. I know a lot of other people who do so, too. You need to know what you're getting into these days.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The strategy here is simple. Provide something for everybody to build a coalition for support.

You may hate the dogs but love the bikes. Or hate the dogs and the bikes but love 'environmental' composting...or the landscaping...or the amenities.

    The 'something for everyone' approach.

However, if there is one unifying theme, I'd say the place is being treated more and more like a college campus...rules enforced accordingly.

They dont care about tenant issues, quality of life. They care about Public Relations to make it look like a swell place to stay. Ignoring the Quality of Life is a way to get you to move out so public safety does not address all the quality of life things from poop to bikes, noise. Public Safety is really a corporate security department with a badge and NYPD back-up that is supposed to do whatever corporate orders to protect the corporate profits. Crappy QOL means people will leave, apartments will churn churn churn so profits skyrocket.

  59. Can we get the unhappy Yelp reviewers to explain the "Occupant" leases to us?

    ReplyDelete
  60. It's a real shame that Blackstone doesn't want to deal with this property to make it the beckon that it once was, pre-Tishman Speyer. Take a look around and you will see what the stress is on. I've stopped counting how many bicycles are riding around the Oval. As to dog shit and/or piss, there is no sense in showing all the photos. Some tenants complain about the college crowd. Management has a way to deal with all this, but it won't. On purpose, it seems.

    ReplyDelete
  61. just passing the bike signs. why does this landlord put signs at all? the delivery guys wiz right by, the kids are flipping out and they need TO BLOCK THE PATH SMEHOW. WITH A FEW DETOURS OR BUMPS OR .

    ReplyDelete
  62. How much of the misery and danger here is purposeful on Blackstone's part? Are they simply stupid as well as greedy? Or is the quickly deteriorating environment deliberate?

Composting . . . it seems to me that in addition to graft/bribes/collusion/nepotism and whatever the hell is involved, just maybe this HEALTH AND SAFETY issue is another way to help destroy the "property," devalue it more quickly than the 20 year deadline.

In tandem with the removal of garbage cans, this undoubtedly ILLEGAL indoor composting initiative will create unsanitary conditions sufficient to breed disease. DISEASE, yes, folks, along with rats, mice, roaches, waterbugs and other critters INTO YOUR HOMES.

The buildings and land of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village can hurt and infect people, possibly kill them, drive them away and ultimately accelerate the date Blackstone can demolish the buildings and put up more of the "luxury" dwelling that is infesting and destroying this and other cities. If you've got rotting buildings, pipes, etc., land despoiled by dog feces and urine, soil poisoned each and every season by their "landscaping experts," food and drink sitting quietly INSIDE your building and bringing in hordes of vermin, this place can more quickly become something that can be condemned, cleared of people and destroyed.

    For a profit.

Your lives are worth less than nothing and danger of many sorts and kinds is being encouraged daily.

    An oasis in the city.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Well, by the signs the owner is trying to avoid liability, I think. "Hey, we have signs, so blank blank should have known!"

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

I have no intention of either recycling or composting because these worthy programs are not implemented the way they should be because Blackstone has no real interest or desire to implement them the way they should be implemented. The students and transients don't give a flying fuck about the environment here. All they care about is getting high and balling. How the hell most of them get into what used to be a prestigious university boggles the mind. Rich parents, I am guessing.

DeBlasio challenges Trump (who I think is a total ass and has reduced the Presidency of the United States to a level lower than it ever could go, filled with conflicts, nepotism and sheer mental disorder) and he (DeB) talks about New York values. What New York values? Having illegal immigrants work for shit, having his benefactor developers build more and more ugly, light-blocking monstrosities for foreign oligarchs and their spawn use to launder their money and dupe the US Government into giving them Green Cards in a pay to play scam? DeB and his sidekicks should pack their bags and get out of town. DeB is nothing more or less than a toe rag to the avaricious developers and REBNY. DeB is as big an egotistical buffoon as Trump. One term mayor. One term Pres (though I doubt he will be able to serve his first (and last) term.

We are in very bad shape, folks. We have an egotistical asshole of a mayor and soon we will have egotistical fool of a President.

  92. Maybe we are housing homeless people or addicts? Who is this "ministry" ministering to? How large an apartment is the one referred to?

    ReplyDelete
  93. This apartment is only 3 rooms. I have the feeling that these people might be homeless or on a low income scale supported by a group because the rent must be over 3500 dollars in that apartment now. In addition, a large number of people moved the stuff in (not much)--just a big new flat screen TV in a cabinet, some religious symbols, and some bedding. Would not surprise me in the least if these people are being subsidized by a ministry or group.

  94. 2:21 PM: It sounds very much like some sort of "flop house." I think you should continue to monitor it because who knows what kind of people will be roaming your building. There are laws about this kind of housing and, even if management flouts those laws, they are still laws. Maybe FDNY needs to hear about this place and conduct an inspection.

  95. I wonder if DeBlasio has snuck a homeless shelter in here? I have no beef with the homeless because we could all find ourselves in that situation if our fortunes changed drastically (many of us are only one paycheck away from that situation), but DeBlasio has a very sneaky, underhanded way of going about things and getting his own way without giving a damn about how it might adversely affect others, especially the middle class. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

  96. The pot smoking is a MAJOR PROBLEM in my building.

    ReplyDelete
  97. 8:10 AM, call the 13th Pct and see if they will send someone over to check it out. There is probably a pot factory somewhere in your building or somebody dealing. It's still against the law and it might scare the shit out of some asshole. Pun intended.

  98. pot smoking and cigarette smoking should be banned from indoors. even if we don't mind it, (i don't) it stinks and most are allergic. It is unfair go subject babies and small children to these - it is very toxic and FTR, there is black mold in the buildings.

  99. It appears more and more that a flophouse has opened in the apartment next door to me. I have seen a couple of strangers at early morning and late evening entering the apartment. Tonight four women were bringing shopping carts full of junky clothes, shoes, etc into the apartment.(probably for distribution). this is outrageous. Will be going over to management this week before the vermin sets in. I cannot believe for a minute though that they care who they are renting to. Absolutely disgusting.

  100. 8:12 PM: That is horrifying! Sounds like it is some kind of "shelter" they are running next door to you and I doubt very much that it is legal. With all the bedbug problems we have in the sty, this is likely to exacerbate it. Which building are you in? Hope it's not mine! I wonder if this is going on anywhere else in the project? I would not put it past DeBlasio to have struck some underhanded deal with Blackstone to house homeless people. No problem with that so long as it is licensed and monitored by the appropriate authorities. We have a right to know if this is the case.

  101. Blackstone continues with their inane e-mails concerning caring neighbors and signage. what a crock. I am so tired of opening these phony PR e-mails. They are beginning to disgust me.

  102. Do not worry, our dear landlord is raising the price of laundry here.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Seriously. The laundry prices are increasing in 2017. A washer will be $2.65 and a dryer $1.90. I think it's very steep because it went up when we got the new machines, which I admit are much better than the crap we had before, but I don't see how they can justify this increase. This is just plain greed, but that's what drives this place.

  104. To :11/28 - 8:10

Where do you live? My building used to be pretty clean except for a couple of floors a few floors - 1, and 6 are disgusting when you get off the elevator.
Security really does nothing. I called the 13th Pct. once about this issue and they actually asked if I wanted someone to come and monitor the apartment I was referring to for drug dealing.

Again, can we get a class action lawsuit going for rugs, pot smoking, sleep issues because of the jerks who stay up until 2-3Am and run around the apartment.

    ReplyDelete
  105. @2:30 PM - did the 13th Pct send someone to monitor the apartment? I hope they did.

    ReplyDelete
  106. 2 33 - let us start a building post - call out on the assholes who ruin our lives. then management will know that we won't stand for it. Future victims will or should not rent there. WE vote for all students raucous live in one building dorm. fuck it.

  107. just realizing that the so called lottery was also designed for students. How can you not be LOLLLLL at the insult to real tenants here? It is nothing short of obvious how they want us all out. OBVIOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I can believe that the so called lottery was designed for students. They are also renting to organizations and ministries. They do not care who they rent to or what the apartments are used for, as long as the astronomical rent is paid. The demographic here gets worse and worse. How do we fight this?

    ReplyDelete
  109. How can the lottery be for students? Was it set up for them? Is this more of DeBlasio's shenanigans? Maybe the Daily News should hear about this.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I think it would be a good idea if they housed some homeless families here. They couldn't possibly be worse neighbors than the students (especially undergrads) and they would probably be very grateful for a place where they could get back on their feet.

De Blasio's plan. Blackstone agreed, but only if long term RS is exterminated. De Blasio (and Garodnick) agreed. So it will happen.
