ReplyDeleteOur beloved Property Manager Mr. Rick Limpdick is oblivious to the fact that a troupe of flamenco dancers has moved into the apartment above me. And rehearsals begin usually 2:00AM every night. Of course the furniture must be moved beginning 1:00AM. Lucky me their performances last only two or three hours...but weekends that's a different story...it can go until the wee early morning hours. I call Security. They come and say, "We don't hear nuthin'." They leave. As if by magic the noise returns. I call Security again. They come looking more annoyed. "We have to catch 'em in the act. Nuthin' we can do'."
What a nightmare! Any suggestions? I know I can't be the only one with this problem. HELP! Rick, grow some balls and ENFORCE existing regulations. Carpet inspections are a MUST.

I have to laugh at the T&V newspaper article lauding the new composting initiative. Nothing negative of course. Every time I go into the recycling area it reeks. They say that there is no increase in vermin. Do not believe that.

That said, I would stress a warning: to be careful what you put on your page. A fourth of one page shows the Daily News, which is disreputable and proven so. But it is shown as the paragon on truth. It isn't. Already one of the main stories is fake. I don't mind a debate that is based on facts, but to champion a newspaper that is disreputable merely besmirches rather than educates.

Management feels that this crowd is good because 1) Asians tend not to complain (so Management thinks), 2) Asians will follow the "rules" and 3) Management considers Asians have money. ReplyDeleteIt appears to me that the growing Asian population here is mainly students. I have many in my building. There are few families moving in and if they do they are out when the rent is raised the following year. The main demo here is transients with suitcases, students, and ministries. Sad.

ReplyDeleteMy experience has fortunately (?) been limited on this. A few years back there was a young Asian couple who lived next door and they were silent except for one instance where I thought they had a loud dog (it wasn't a dog, I learned!). I may have an Asian girl living above me, one of two or three females, I don't know. The high heels are bothersome, however. I am currently dealing with this.
An Asian family just moved in, but they are way above me and seem nice. There may be more new Asian families or students floors above me, I just don't know.
So I can't address this issue with authority, but I do know that Management has not looked to make SURE that everyone has carpeting.
I do know that it's very nice to see Asian females walking in Stuy Town and showing their legs, which they must do, it seems!

ReplyDeleteI was just reading the TA Facebook page and I see a lot of people are having problems with adequate heat. Is that a complex-wide problem or is it confined to certain buildings? Somebody said they use sensers that are placed in certain apartments and they, and only they, determine whether or not heating is justified. Sounds like quack science to me. Sty town has always been a bit cheap with heat, but it definitely went down when Tishman Speyer bought the place. After a little "honeymoon" period it seems that Blackstone/Ivanhoe has gone the TS way. My apartment is bearable, just bearable. I wouldn't want to have a young child, especially an infant living here though. I think it would probably be dangerous. Our theremometer never gets beyond 67/68 and we sometimes put the oven on for a while to take the chill of the place. Fortunately, we don't spend a lot of time at home during the winter as work during the week and go to the Poconos on the weekends.

I believe that the heat problems are scattered. I get plenty of heat, have been getting enough for the past three years. It varies from building to building and line to line from what I have heard.
ReplyDelete8:24 PM, the reason why it varies so widely is because of the crackbrained sensor system we have. People living in apartments with the sensors may or may not use the oven and maybe do a lot of cooking. This would tell the sensors that their apartment is warm and, therefore, no heat is required. Meanwhile, the neighbors downstairs may be freezing their asses of because they don't cook. Also, if a tenant with the sensors has space heaters because the heat doesn't come on often enough, the temperature of their apartment will tell the sensors that the apartment is adequately warm and so it goes for the rest of the tenants on the line.

Even MetLife, which was not fond of sending up much heat, went by the outdoor temperatures and sent up heat all the time when the outside temperature was much below freezing. The current system was installed either by Tishman Speyer or CWCapital, and we know what evil-hearted, bloodsucking vermin they were. I was hoping that Blackstone would be at least a modicum more humane and decent, but I doubt these people have a decent bone in their bodies. Actually, I think that TS, Blackstone, CWCap are all one and the same. Filthy liars and bloodsuckers. Glad I'll be moving out of here in a couple of months and they are welcome to my apartment because it's not worth the money. (I am a Roberts tenant and we were royally screwed up the ass without benefit of lubrication).
Did a little bit of time traveling a while ago. Do you know that this property was called a "housing project" for a long time? I guess that term doesn't fit in with our wealthier residents. Watch them bristle if you call this place a "housing project".... Yet, aside from some upgrades it remains at heart a "housing project".... Of course, with dogs and speeding bicycles added.

The composting bin has been missing from 7PCR since Friday. Any other buildings missing theirs?

I still don't know about PS. Are they just following orders from above? On one hand, they are there for a serious matter, but what is serious for them? I value their presence if they are present.

I have never seen a policeman on the beat in Stuyvesant Town. In case you haven't noticed, Stuyvesant Town is part of NYC. Forget Public Safety, they are not police officers.
The objective of ST Management is to maintain and present a very high "Quality of Life" image. Anything that hits the police blotter in the 13th precinct will damage that image.
The residents of the NYCHA Projects located just south of 14th Street receive police response and protection. This is what you sacrifice when you live in Stuyvesant Town.
The Safety Officers that sit in front of the TV Monitor Screens in their office, in 2 Stuyvesant Oval are not interested in Quality of Life problems. If they were, they would do something about the THOUSANDS of bicycles that roll through ST everyday. It is illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk in NYC. Private property does not allow you to ignore or exempt you from the law. Lots of people are leaving NY State. High priority violations of the law like murder, assault, robbery, and rape may be part of the reason. I have a feeling that Quality of Life is another reason.

I have lived in ST since 1978. I worked here for 11 years and got to know quite a few people and their frustrations that fall on deaf ears.
Stuyvesant Town was abandoned by Met Life. Tishman Speer also abandoned ST when they were challenged by Ms. Roberts over the j51 / destabilization that Tishman Speers was engaged in.
The bottom line in today's management team is to turn over as many apartments as possible and create a market rate complex. Public Safety personnel are all State certified special officers. They are Peace Officers.
It is my opinion that they have been ordered not to issue summons for certain Quality of Life violations, eg. Riding bicycles.on sidewalks, not picking up after your dog, etc. It's really not their fault
ST doesn't want anything negative in the papers.

There has always been a NYE celebration at the Community Center and it has always been well attended by Seniors and younger tenants. Three of my neighbors who are Seniors were planning on attending and didn't know it was not happening. Management didn't even have the decency to make an announcement that it would not be happening. ReplyDeleteActually, it does. The interior pathways are private property, so all manners of vehicles - bikes, golf carts, RAV 4s, box trucks, etc. - can drive around without any fear of being ticketed.
And you're probably right, there are literally thousands of bike trips taken back and forth each day, just from food deliveries alone. Given those numbers, and that we've not heard of any serious injuries being sustained, it would seem to me that it's not especially dangerous.
Exactly where are the sound problems on this property? Is it generally the lower floors, one bedrooms, two or all? I can hear my neighbors take a shit but I don't understand how. Should the management wrap the pipes, this is so gross.

Unless they are charging outsiders or serving the underaged, I think it's okay to serve alcohol in your apartment.

ReplyDeleteI live in another former MetLife complex were the streets were privatized. None of the service vehicles are registered with the state DVM and generally only travel on the private streets or sidewalks.
I don't remember "in the good ole days" all these vehicles traveling around ST on the pathways. Seems like we are into another era.

ReplyDeleteBut bikes, delivery (E bikes are illegal in NYC) or private, do not fall into this category so Blackstone allowing them is with the “private property” exemption is BS and so is the NYC response to this issue. The NYC law bike signs at the Oval entrances should cover the entire property, not just the Oval, again, more selective BS.
The T&V article says the composting is run by an environmental services director whose linkedin page says he has no environmental background but he is a banquet, catering, event planner amenity expert. That could explain the execution of the composting plan not being well thought through and possibly unsanitary.

19-176 (b) is a violation for bicycling on the sidewalk. Not applicable here, unless you're riding on the actual sidewalks ringing the perimeter of the complex.
ReplyDelete19-176 (c) is a misdemeanor, reckless operation of a bicycle. These charges are only applied after a collision has occurred, thereby giving evidence for the charge. Absent any collision, it's just a subjective judgement of behavior, and won't hold up in court.

If a bicycle ever hits you and suffer a broken hip or a severe head injury or any fractures or broken bones, let's see how subjective or objective your judgment is then.
I do think that pedestrians have been hit by bicycles. Not a major hit, but certainly something. Thing is would we know about it, unless the minor hit was taken to court or mentioned on one of the blogs. I know there was a case against a dog attacking a dog, and it may even go to court, but I believe PS said they don't have anything on tape.
