And so?

I was up early today in the complex and checking things out, past 7am until around 8:40am. Today is the day that finally Blackstone and PS will actively address the dog lanyard issue (again). This is what is saw:

There were no foot patrols around the perimeter of PCV and ST. I counted 10 non-lanyards and 2 lanyards inside PCV. The PS officer inside the large booth at PCV was engrossed in a paper, probably the Daily News. I stopped counting lanyards soon thereafter. I did see a PCVST patrol car going up the 1st Avenue island a bit later, as well as two police traffic cars. These were near 14 St, where I was heading from PCV. Incidentally there is a gathering of dog-owners at the PCV "park"--south end, and the entire faux marble building entrances at PCV are stained with dog-urine. No PS presence when I was there.

Turning the corner at 14th, then going into ST at the Ave A entrance. I was not counting by then, but I saw dog owners with lanyards. I saw no one entering the neighborhood at that time from outside. Again no PS foot presence.

I sat at the bench near the PS office. One riding bicycle passed me by. No PS foot presence or awareness, though the bike passed by the PS office. I guess the monitors can pick him up, but so what?

I have photos, which I may post. Busy day, so things have to wait a bit.

Incidentally today is Friday, so parking tickets are being written along the 1st Avenue loop for a limited time.

  1. BTW, this does not make me happy, unlike the person pictured.

  2. STR, I hope that you are not surprised by this. Don't expect changes from this management.

  3. hate to hear that str but this is who they are. we know this, what can we do as a large group????? we need to rally.

  4. Today I saw a girl who was clearly a tourist, suitcase and camera in hand, another air BNBer.It wouldn't surprise me if Blackstone had apartments set aside for tourists.

  5. No surprises here.

Just a lot of hot air from the talking heads.

  7. As I left my building this A.M. the first thing I saw was an easily over 75 pound dog on a retractable leash extended about 20 feet with no lanyard taking a huge crap right smack in the middle of the walkway. So much for Rick and his rules. No one pays this guy any mind.

P.S. There is a special place in hell for people who treat those with disabilities the way SPS and Blackstone did.

  9. I don't want to imply that things are just the same. I think, though I am not positive, that there has been some additional presence. We have to keep on watching and see how responsive it is--if it is.

    Amen!

  11. I want to caution about knocking SPS and Blackstone for dealing with people with disabilities negatively. So far this has not been my experience.

  12. Town and Village has become a real management tool rag. This week they are running an article lauding the compost initiative and how the city is using ST as a model. They ought to run articles on the dormification, air bnb, scruffy looking grounds, noise, etc. Another article cited a resident petitioning against a noisy basketball playground. That do nothing Steinberg was interviewed and said"that she couldn't take sides on the issue." This is our TA and what we have to deal with.

  13. I want to caution about knocking SPS and Blackstone for dealing with people with disabilities negatively. So far this has not been my experience.

I am not either the person telling the story or the person involved but I can say that my experience has been identical. I am glad someone had the courage to tell it like it is. They seem to be able to deal with physical disabilities but have no idea how to deal with families with mental disabilities. Given that 1 in 100 children is on the autism spectrum they should learn to deal with this instead of going by their book all the time. A little compassion can go a long way. At least have the common decency to return a call. Sorry STR but you are way off base here.

    ReplyDelete
  14. It could have been that they simply did not have anybody to go at that precise time. I don't think they would treat a person with a disability badly, especially a child.

  16. It's all but official that Garodnick is running for higher office following his "day in the life" article in the Times. I have no doubt that Dan is a good family man, and I've seen him on plenty of Sundays out with his wife and kids enjoying themselves.

The problem lies in the fact that he shouldn't need an article highlighting his fabulous family life, unless it is needed to overcome negative press or in this case negative public sentiment. He knows that the Blackstone affordable housing lotto is a major scam, he has small businesses and their supporters down his throat because of SBJSA, he led a massive failure with the attempted purchase of the property, and he feeds money to his TA that happens to go into a black hole never to be known about again. Oh, and don't forget that he's the belle of the REBNY gala.

People don't forget Dan, regardless of the nice article written about you and your family in the Times, you have hung your constituents out to dry one to many times for us to forget.

I don't know what the problem is.

  18. I was out tonight, too. Though it wasn't part of a plan, I did sit around PCV for a while. Did notice dog owners from outside coming past the guard booth. The guard could care less, which squares with what a resident said about that guard booth and the purposeful lack of attention given to dog-walkers from outside. Kinda makes a lie out of that lanyard warning, doesn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  19. It could have been that they simply did not have anybody to go at that precise time.

It would seem logical that if they had someone they could send from eight to noon that they would have the same person available to go between ten and noon. At least, they could have shifted other appointments to earlier so they could go to this apartment later. I wouldn't accept that excuse as valid.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Easy to see if this is true. Hey Rick did you get a call? Did you respond? Hey Blackstone, what about you?

    ReplyDelete
  21. My guess is that they are prepping the 23rd street booth for the summer when they have that gate closed and a guard stationed there. They are just finally cleaning it up and making it presentable and usable for the guards.

  22. Not much these mall cops can do anyway. Don't present ID and tell them to fck off. They can't do anything. Same thing with the bikes, can't stop riders because it's illegal to dismount riders.

All in all its am empty threat from blackstone, using the mall cops even though they can't do anything.

  23. This past Monday in the back area of the playground on Ave C between 16-18th streets, there was a guy with his 2 DOGS OFF LEASH. Playing catch with a ball. Running back and forth the entire length of the area. This went on for half an hour. There is a security camera right there. No security show up, of course. Then some woman with her kids and DOG show up and proceed to go into the fenced off grass in the same back area by the 277 building. They run around and carry on for half an hour. Like I said, there is a camera right there. Does security show up? NO. I was in the playground. Why didn't I call security? Why should I?? What are their stupid security cameras there for??? HEY MANAGEMENT! - DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!!!!!! Not doing anything sends the message that such behavior and actions is okay and it's not according to your resident rules and NYC laws.

  26. Around 8:30 or so and SPS is telling everyone at playground 1 in ST to wake up. Trucks backing up, street sweepers, and leaf blowers going full out. Thanks for the quiet oasis on a Saturday morning, Mr. Blackstone!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Doggie day in ST. SPS disturbs thousands for 2 dozen dogs, at least half of which are well over 50 pounds. Rick and co. are pure incompetence. Blackstone has to be getting embarrassed. I know for a fact they are getting a reputation in NYC RE world as failures.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh yeah the lanyard.

What is it? A blue piece of ribbon?

I wonder where I can get me a blue piece of ribbon?

    ReplyDelete
  29. STR, nothing is going to be done about the dogs, bicycles, floor coverings and dormification. Heyduk and Co. will pay lip-service, but that's all it is. They have no intention of enforcing any of their so-called "rules."

    ReplyDelete
  30. Blackstone is not embarrassed. They can care less. This takeover is a financial success to them--deals with NYU, air bnb, and the city to rent apartments at market rate. Nobody cares that they are destroying the QOL here. That is their intention. And there are still amny tenants here who laud Rick and Company.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I was in the oval today from about 11-5, and I did not see a single dog getting stopped. There were quite a few with the lanyard, which is to be expected, and just as many without. Also counted close to 100 bikes, and that was just when I was paying attention. Also counted 9 moving trucks between my walk from PCV to the oval. It's the end of th school year at NYU!

It's only a matter of time before a major lawsuit happens, and Blackstone and Rick will be in deep doo foo at that time.

  32. Perhaps it's the weather or just my mood. It could also be reality. The property looks like shit. There seems no PS presence, the Oval pathway is filled with decayed leaves (raking anyone?), and there is dog urine all over the place, more than I usually see in ST. There is some big-time construction and ground digging at 14th St in several places. And some of the ST kids are "Lord of the Flies" ones.

Yes, it could be the weather or my mood.

  34. STR reporter, it is not the weather or your mood. The property does look crappy. Especially in the areas close to 14th Street it looks neglected. Just dirt, no plantings and of course, the ever present dog wastes. I have never seen it look so bad, even under Compass Crock. They spiff it up on some of the outside corners and near the leasing areas and senior center to make people think it is attractive, but once you go inside it looks like crap.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Honestly, I wish they would just buy us out. I have no intention of leaving my apartment for at least another 35 years (I'm 40) and they could get $3500 more a month. If they made it worth my while I'd be out in a week.

  36. Dan doesn't need carpeting.

    Why? Because he's "entitled".

  38. So what greets me on the TA Facebook this early Sunday morning? Three, count them three, resident complaints about this property, one right after the other. The lack of enforcement here HAS TO STOP. Management has to make sure that we, the residents who care, live in a place that has visible enforcement of the rules and things working like they are suppose to. It is NOT the number one priority to get bodies into the complex to have them to pay the rental fees. The priority is to have the property as close to what one is selling to make the property DESIRABLE. Not just NECESSARY.

    Complaint #1:

    Sunday 1:30 am,
the apartment above us has a dog, which is howling loud and scratching the floor in the bedroom area only.
We have not heard any noise from the tenant above since Friday morning, but heard the dog occasionally howling.
The window of the bedroom is closed, and the door must be closed as the dog noise is only in that area.

At 1:30 am called PS to report, the answer from the PS on the phone was there is nothing what they can do if they is no-one at home. They sent an officer to check, while the officer was ringing the bell the dog was howling and scratching like crazy. Than the officer left again without coming to our door.

At 1:55 am I called PS again and was told that the first officer could not hear the dog. So they sent PS Rosario who came to our apartment and arrived at 2:08 am verifying the dogs howling and scratching the floor.
PS Rosario said he will report it to his supervisor.

We than called 311 to report the matter.

Question to Management, what is the procedure of Stuytown to assist the dog when the tenant is not present for longer period?

    Complaint #2:

To the person who left a used tampon in the stairwell of a Stuyvesant Town building: What were you thinking? Please explain how you could possibly justify behavior so profoundly disrespectful--to the porters who work very hard to maintain these buildings, and to your fellow residents like me who use the stairs for their intended purpose, to go up and down through the building. I felt bad that I could not clean this up, but I don't have latex gloves and was afraid to come in contact with the bodily fluids of someone so clearly lacking in judgment.

This is not acceptable. Go right now and clean up after yourself. And do not ever do this again.

    Complaint #3:

After a week of jackhammers, ear-piercing vehicle "beeping" from the construction in Playground 7, closed windows and a heat wave in MAY, hopes for open windows, cool breezes and a modicum of quiet were dashed today. The weather cooperated, however, at nearly 5pm on a SATURDAY afternoon, the jackhammers and vehicle "beeping" from Playground 7 continue.

    To the original poster:
    Tampons?
Geez, I've seen condoms on the stairwells, dog shit, garbage and, of course, the ubiquitous smell of dog urine.
Many of the animals here in PigStuy Town are of the four-legged variety.
I feel so bad for the porters.
They can only grin and bare it.
They are all afraid of losing their jobs.
This place has become a dump and can only get worse.
Blackstone has a reputation as being most avaricious and greedy, bottom line is all that counts. Pack 'em in like sardines if we can get an extra buck.
Rick and his crew will yes you to death.
Enforcement of rules? Lanyards and blue tags on dogs? Surely you jest.
    HAHAHA

  41. There needs to be a law in NYC mandating adequate floor covering in ALL apartments, rental or otherwise. Because there isn't, we have no real way to get Blackstone to enforce the 80% floor covering provision in its own leases.

  43. STR reporter, just curious if the music in Oval means dreaded concert series back to noise pollute the Oval for startling turn outs of 20 people (half friends of bands) or is this lame band today for another annoying reason to ruin any chance of peace at noon on a Sunday in the oval?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Peace? Management doesn't know the meaning, unless they are trying to promote the complex as having peace.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I find myself, more and more, escaping this way or that way to find peace.

  46. These lame bands are an attempt by management to show that they are providing "amenities". A real joke as some of us are annoyed by these oval concerts. I am sure that the movies and concerts will be back.

  47. I posted that I had to complain to PS about a domestic violence incident downstairs from me. The post got deleted somehow, but not by me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. "Where did you post this?"

somewhere on a thread about PS not being able to do anything about a dog that was locked in an apartment alone overnight. It showed up on my iPad, but not on my computer. Maybe it was a Google Chrome glitch or maybe because I said it was my downstairs neighbor and people could have figured out who it was. I did edit it, to remove identifying text, but it disappeared anyway. I think it might have been a technical glitch because Peter Stuyvesant usually gives me a "talking to" and tells me to remove stuff he finds inappropriate. Anyway, I reposted without giving any specifics that could identify the apartment in question and that remains there. I am definitely going to call 911 if they go at it again tonight. It sounded like the guy was beating the crap out of her.

  51. Welcome to the club. Used condoms and empty beer and soda cans in the grass outside the window.
There was even an entire pizza box, one time.
A bloody used maxi pad stuck in the tree outside another window. Called management twice about it. Biohazard. Nothing was done. Watched it disintegrate over the course of 8 months. Absolutely disgusting. Why anybody would throw any of the above mentioned items out their window is beyond me. I should have called a news station about the used maxi pad. Who are they renting to and who raised these filthy animals?

    ReplyDelete
  52. 8:21 PM - first off, these people are not filthy animals. That is a terrible insult to animals. Animals are clean and don't soil their own dens/nests/whatever. Second off, when you see something like a bloody maxi-pad in a tree, or anywhere else on the property, you take a photograph of it and send that photograph to every media outlet, the Department of Health, and posted it online under the heading: The New and Improved Stuyvesant Town: Saving the Environment One Maxi-Pad at a Time." I PROMISE you I would do that.

When the general public start to realize (and many already do) that this place has disintegrated into a filthy, loathsome dorm/fetid slum/open sewer, then maybe something will change. Don't just call a news station; send them high definition color photographs and MAKE SURE it is prominently displayed on Social Media.

    ReplyDelete
  53. They are renting to a nasty demo. They don't care who rents these apartments. I know that it isn't only students defacing the property, but generally students do not care much about cleaning their apartments or keeping things tidy. The dorm population is exploding here. The landscaping has gone down the drain too. The place looks like a dump.
