I spoke to the Big Boss the other day at the "Oval Office" meeting (held at the Oval from 5pm to 6pm). By now, I think I've spoken to all the major bosses at STPCV.
So, in light of that and their understanding, I am closing this blog....
Ha, ha.... Fooled you on that one. This blog remains, of course. There are problems that must be addressed, though I'd love to just take photos of the flowers and present them to the readership. The "good news" is management is aware of these problems and is working on them or some of them. At least that is what is said, and we will have photos to prove or disprove it. Why the TA is not doing this, I don't know.
It is the policy of management not to have someone representing management on the blogs, or at least the official TA one. This policy I think is wrong. Having someone, not to battle with tenants, but to speak openly and truthfully, even if it is to say, "I can't address that right now" would do a lot to diffuse any situation. Residents need to be informed. Unlike the Public Safety officer I spoke to not too long ago, who was forceful about "social media" and that no one official goes there. Do know that management is at least aware of the TA Facebook and its comments. Even that knowledge is a big relief.
I recognize that it is not easy dealing with as many tenants that we now have. Even 5,000 less of years back can be difficult. But nothing is easy, and life can be difficult. I've worked in companies where some of the workers are just there to collect a pay check and nothing more. To them, the least amount of work is best--and a union will back them up. And, that was years go, before the advent of the cellphone.
On and off, I've been a member of Oval Study. (I actually do some of my best STR pieces from this spot.) Frankly you can throw all of the books out, as no one reads them, but people, and not just students, use this area to study or write. That said, the presence of the cellphone has done much to change the habits of certain help there. I remember a time (I think it was before Abigail Michaels entered the picture) where the "help" used to be senior citizens or close to them from this community. The place was run like a charm. No cellphones. Try that policy now: No cellphone while you are on the job!
While the help is different from person to person, I've found that some are more interested in the cellphone and their own communication than what happens outside, in the patio, which is their responsibility, not mine or the Oval Study members. Instead of engrossed by their cells and facing the other way, they should be checking to see if someone has sat in the patio to eat lunch or whatever. And the residents (maybe? who knows?) can plead ignorance all they want, but a very clear and large sign states that they have no purpose if they are not members. And you have clear and large signs taped on the tables, at least last year. A simple "Pardon me..." will do much. Yes, these residents will frequently respond: "Oh, I didn't know..." Though at least two very clear signs tell them not to be sitting there without going inside and showing their membership.
Much like this, the cellphone is used at the guard booth where a PS officer should be stationed. How many times have I seen a PS officer on his cellphone and not looking to check the lanyards or the bicycles running around his area, two big problems here. If I see that, others can see it, too. The idea becomes that PS doesn't care and is more interested in, here we go, collecting a pay check and nothing more.
I did an experiment a few weeks ago. I saw very visible dog crap, not picked up, by the "no dog" sign around the Oval pathway. I'd say about four hours went by and the dog crap was not picked up! Unless they were in their own head space, everybody must have seen it and no one called it in? Finally, after my "experiment" was over and I was back in Stuy Town, I called PS, but it shouldn't be me, a resident, to call. It should be the workers, porters, etc. of STPCV who are concerned and call it in. Four hours and counting! What about the unpicked dog crap, very visible, near the corner of 1st Avenue. Why should I or any resident call it in? What are the workers or porters doing? Collecting a pay check and nothing more? And what about these property managers, the small ones that are in charge of this building and that one? Where are they? Are they still around? Don't they see?
A portion of people will try to "get away" with not following the rules. It's been that way forever. (Jaywalking, anyone?--which I have done myself.) But it is up to the representatives of Blackstone--yes, from the lowest to the highest--to make sure that this property works for all of us.
With the greatest respect for you STR, I say "blah, blah, blah".
ReplyDeletePigStuy Management will smile and "yes" you to death.
What will be done?
ABSOLUTELY nothing.
The true test will be the so-called enforcement of the blue-lanyard rule for dogs on the property.
My guess is there will be some feeble, half-assed effort to enforce this weekend, then zilch.
Just my prognostication. Hope I'm wrong.
Speaking of dog sh*t: it's not the 4-legged kind that piss me off, it is the 2-legged kind who run a bowling alley above me. NO CARPETS.
When is Management going to do something to deal with that?
NEVER.
Finished my rant except for one last comment:
STR you are a GEM!
F*ck Diblasio, Danny Boy G and all the venal, crooked pols.
I say, STR FOR MAYOR!
Better yet, "STR FOR KING!
Lol...have a blessed weekend all and keep chuckling!
Hi STR. I did an experiment myself. There were two major stains on the carpet in my hallway
ReplyDelete(PCV BUILDING), called Resident Service, and it was cleaned up in two days. Three weeks pass by, and two more major stains appear. I am not calling this time. 3 and a half weeks have passed by, the porter does nothing, any inspector that may have passed by does nothing,
and the people on MY FLOOR do nothing. Now I know I am living with slobs. I have come to the conclusion NO ONE, let me repeat, NO ONE, cares. And you know what? I give up. I am not calling. I don't care either. This place is really bad, and it has to do with the people running this, oh, excuse me, let me use the word "joint"! Everyone knows this word around here. It is a total waste of time trying to make this place look presentable. AND, Rick is just a Puppet. I see no change in the quality of life around here. Just wanted to get this off my chest too. Happy Mothers Day to you Mothers!
You need to ask management to stop churning apartments. That is the core problem. I agree with 8:44. They will yes you to death. I am shocked that you fell for this STR. They may read these blogs, but big deal.
ReplyDelete>>I give up. I am not calling. I don't care either.<<
ReplyDeleteI think yours is the experience of most tenants, at least those who care. The ones who are just passing through? Why should they care at all?
It is up to management to win "the hearts and minds" of the residents. That's why I've haven't put my camera away.
There is soo much wrong with this place.
ReplyDeleteI have given up too.
Don't care.
>>I am shocked that you fell for this STR. They may read these blogs, but big deal.<<
ReplyDeleteI didn't fall for anything. As you see, my camera is still out and I will be reporting. That said, I do not look upon anyone as "the enemy." That's just the way I am.
As to the big deal, I think an admission from the Big Boss that he or his people are aware of the blogs is a fact that I welcome. Whether they will use this information this way or that way is another thing.
They should prohibit "Public Safety" from reading their cell phones when they are on duty. They nothing else but stand around reading their phones, smoking and chatting. They see nothing around them. Jack the Ripper could go on a rampage here and PS wouldn't look up.
ReplyDeleteafter 20 years here, i think they should split up properties. too large to manage even on a great day. this corporation can't manage one playground, not to mention almost 12k apartments and # of residents in those, continues to grow.
ReplyDeleteWell, as we all know , they cannot and won't fix everything. Id take a lower rent and better neighbors first and foremost. i cannot worry about laundry, dogs and other shit right now. RENT MONEY AND PEACE.
ReplyDeleteRENT MONEY AND PEACE
FIX IT ////YA BUNCH OF SCHMUCKS.
Let's all ask them , flood them with letters, beg them to carpet - fix the walls, fix the floor, i have no fucking idea what, but why i can hear my sad neighbor crying all day is fucked up shit. I am sorta new here.
ReplyDeleteI recall the first TA meeting when we were introduced to the Blackstone robbers. They put on a really nice front, asking us for suggestions and acting like they were pro-tenant. They said they would deal with the dormification issue. That is what they are all about, public relations. After a year and a half things have gotten increasingly worse. I see them for what they are, phony profit mongers.
ReplyDeleteI certainly do not discount the upset here. I, too, have been upset to the point of blood shooting of my eyes and frothing at the mouth. That said, let us see what they (Blackstone and PS) will do. As I wrote, my camera has not been put away, and I still see the daily infractions at the Oval, even yesterday. You will find a post that provides a link (actually, two links) to what Rick Hayduk said concerning lanyards. This effort seems much like the parent or teacher telling misbehaving children "we really, really mean this time." We know where that goes. The behavior and the attempt at enforcement seem exactly the same as it was a year before. I will be there, no doubt. So will you.
ReplyDeleteIt should be said, though no one from management has said this, that not everyone is happy at some of their co-workers. Keep that in mind.
ReplyDeleteNo less than two moving trucks and 4 Airbnb suitcase tourists seen in my building and outside within a half hour's time. That is the core problem here, the churning of apartments. The dogs, carts, etc are indeed issues, but the QOL will never improve unless a more stable demo is recruited here. Given the constant and large rent increases, that won't be happening here.
ReplyDeleteWhat does management say about that? Are they still denying it exists?
STR - let us see what they will do?? They haven't done a damn thing since they took over, and you are the person who has kept us informed on that. Now you are saying that we should wait and see what Blackstone and PS do?? Don't lighten up on us!
ReplyDeleteTalking about getting a more stable demo, they drove out a family next door to me a couple of years ago by charging enormous rent increases. They have since been replaced by a dorm apartment and a Section 8 boardinghouse. Guess they get more money from NYU and the city.
ReplyDeleteclunk clunk clunk. Heels above us. Management says they have carpets.
ReplyDeleteWho is lying. Lease violation and calling lawyer.
I'm not lightening up! LOL. But I am willing to give them multiple chances. The change, or some of it, is said to come next week. We will see.
ReplyDeleteAgree with 5/12 8:30 Am
ReplyDeleteThe guy above me has been here about 8 years - still running around in shoes. Cannot speak to him - "I don't know what to tell you - it's just New York living!"
Infuriating but if I called Security every time he's walking around here I'd be on the phone all day long.
We all the story about carpeting and inspections are a joke. I he had been living here when Met Life was in charge he'd be evicted by now.
Today at lunch time employees from
BI took up two of the chess table outside the Café having heir lunch. Management has to send a message to BI that their employees cannot usurp tables reserved for tenants. I understand this goes on around Peter Cooper too.
And when the buildings on 14th street are complete and occupied what will the overspill be like in the Oval? A chaotic mess.
Time to leave this place. Anyone paying over 2K for a one bedroom is insane.
That's why they're all stoned. Cannot face reality.
to:5/12 3:35.
ReplyDeletePlease let this blog know how it goes with your attorney, who you contacted, etc.
Better yet, how about all of us with this problem arrange to get together at some point and start a class action lawsuit I'm sure there will be hundreds of tenants and maybe something can be done about this chronic problem that management has decided to let slide.
Please -= let's expose the buildings where the Section 8 tenants are as well as the constant dorm and Air-Bob apartments. Let's expose them.
ReplyDeleteMy building - 635 E. 14th is kept very clean and the carpeting - except for one tenant with dogs is pretty spotless - however a laugh. The signs that notify tenants of upcoming events - whoever is responsible for these should get off his smartphone - as of last week the sign read - Last updated - 5/31/17. Just a small detail, but makes one shake their head.
ReplyDeleteWhat is happening next week, STR?
ReplyDeleteWhat change? Are they going to stop renting to NYU? Are they going to inspect apartments for carpeting and violations?
ReplyDelete>>There is soo much wrong with this place.
ReplyDeleteI have given up too.
Don't care.<<
THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT MANAGEMENT WANTS TO HEAR! You made their day.
Security: They have been intimidated and ORDERED to do nothing.
ReplyDeleteLandlord: Why will you live in denial??? THIS IS DELIBERATE. ALL OF THE INCREASING MISERY.
All of you read. So please read up on the planet-wide scourge that is Blackstone
>>What is happening next week, STR?<<
ReplyDeleteI believe the lanyard rule is supposed to be enforced, again.
>>And when the buildings on 14th street are complete and occupied what will the overspill be like in the Oval?<<
ReplyDeleteMy prediction is that there will be little enforcement from going over and partaking of the Oval and even the cafe. I assume, though I haven't checked in a while, that there is no "For Residents and Their Guests" sign. I know there wasn't one before the place was temporarily closed down by the Health Department. Also, I'm not sure if the new place will allow dogs. If they do, we know where those dogs will piss and take a crap.
>>Better yet, how about all of us with this problem arrange to get together at some point and start a class action lawsuit<<
ReplyDeleteNot a bad idea and something I have been mulling myself. Yes, there are rules but it seems they are not being enforced. BUT to be successful one has to spend some time and write things down, if not all take video and/or photos. Remember that lady who took this place to court and won? Of course, she got no assistance from the TA.
>>My building - 635 E. 14th is kept very clean and the carpeting - except for one tenant with dogs is pretty spotless - however a laugh. ReplyDeleteThere has to, has to, be a property manager who goes around and checks. And reports. I'm not taking about THE property manager, Rick, but a few people for all these buildings. I believe there were a few of them. These people should check everything and honestly report. Then the problems need to be rectified.
I WILL BE THE FIRST ONE AT THE CLASS ACTION. I AM ONE OF 3 OTHER FAMILIES LIVING HERE IN SEPARTE APARTMENTS AND I WILL BRING ALL OF US. SET IT UP.
ReplyDeleteI am in 5 Pc and I do think there are section 8 tenants here. Quet can you do though, do they not have a right to live here?
ReplyDeleteBlackstone is a worldwide landlord that is known to be pox on whatever community it shows up in. It is a legion of bloodsucking parasites that take and take and take and give nothing to the communities they take from. Pretty much like our own Danny Boy.
ReplyDelete"There has to, has to, be a property manager who goes around and checks. And reports. I'm not taking about THE property manager, Rick, but a few people for all these buildings. I believe there were a few of them. These people should check everything and honestly report. Then the problems need to be rectified."
ReplyDeleteDon't think so, STR. My building is chock-a-bloc full of children of the corn and they are the filthiest and crassest lowlifes ever. They are also really stupid and can't read shit. Maybe mismanagement should consider that when writing up the stupid house rules. Our recycling room stinks and I don't know if it is the compost bin or if someone dumped dog shit into a recycling bin
I have always recycled (since it became law), but no more. Idiots put food, dirty take-away containers and all kinds of smelly muck into the bins. They don't know plastic from paper and always use the plastic bags (from the grocery store) which disqualifies most recycling because it is not recycled by SDNY. Put a plastic bag in a recycling bin and you have negated everybody else's efforts. They should cease recycling efforts in PCVST because it is a total and absolute waste of time and energy. New Yorkers may be able to comprehend the recycling rules, but the spaced-out cretins from Flyoverland cannot. Unfortunately, they are managements favored demographic to pass through this community because they pay through the nose for inferior accommodation because they (and their parents) know no better.
Rick Haywire hasn't got a clue. He should go back to Boca and bask in the admiration of the alter cockers because he's out of his depth in NYC.
How many more chances should Blackstone be given?
ReplyDeleteDo we ignore the fact that they haven't done a damn thing to prevent another sexual assault/attempted murder? Rick had all the chances in the world to give us an update on their security consultant findings, but nothing. More nighttime security? More like less nighttime security.
Blackstone is here to stay, so we unfortunately have to deal with their management company. That doesn't mean we can't pressure Blackstone to replace managers who quite frankly can't handle this property. Rick's priorities show that he can not handle this job, at least not on his own. How can dog lanyards take priority over property security, which is probably at its worst in the 47 years I've lived here. By enforcing dog lanyard checks but ignoring carpeting issues, noise violations, speeding bikes and reckless golf carts, Rick has shown his hand, and that is to ignore the things that actually need to be fixed and fix the easy things.
>>How many more chances should Blackstone be given?<<
ReplyDeleteRead my blog and see. I don't think I've stepped away from giving my view point and I have let others have theirs, unless they've been grossly insulting. Blackstone knows that I am a tough nut to crack if their intent is to make me silent. I believe that I said the "truth" to Rick. We are (and I said this) working on the same side if it's to make this property function well. If Blackstone says they will do something, then I am willing to see if they are true to their word--and if they can keep it. Yes, again and again. Meanwhile I will report what I see, rather than what I am told. Blackstone is, of course, doing something that I have no hand in--namely, trying to make this property as profitable as it can be. I don't give a you-know-what about "amenities," for instance. I'm sure they would love ALL voices to be positive and not be negative. I can only report the truth of what I see.
>>Do we ignore the fact that they haven't done a damn thing to prevent another sexual assault/attempted murder? Rick had all the chances in the world to give us an update on their security consultant findings, but nothing. More nighttime security? More like less nighttime security.<<
ReplyDeleteWell, we have learned that Public Safety is 24/7!
BTW, this person can easily sue the property. Unless the reports are wrong, there was a serious breach of security for about 10 minutes. A long time. Chances are that the episode will be hushed up after she wins (she should win), but once again it will be a black eye for those concerned--at least until everything dies down again.
ReplyDeleteBlackstone is purely for profit as in profit for the sake of profit. It is not a corporation that has any moral or social conscience and doesn't even pretend to any kind of incentive other than to maximize profits. It has to hire people who are willing to sacrifice their consciences (if they had one to begin with) and focus on maximizing profit and not concern themselves with the well-being of the tenants or the general public. Money Money Money is the ONLY, as in ONLY, thing that matters. So, if people get raped, murdered, hit by bikes, gored by dogs on their property, so be it. A small amount of profit will be used to make good on judgments, settlements, hush money, etc., but it will not make a dent in the bottom line. If buildings burn down and people are burned to death, so be it. That's why they have insurance. Not a dent will be made in the bottom line.
ReplyDeleteThank you to the TA, Garodnick and De Blasio for handing us over to such a warm and fuzzy institution.
In terms of actual boots on the ground, they are far from 24/7. It's more like 0/0. Security is 100% less efficient when sitting in their vans or in the office than they would be on actual patrol. Patrolling in the vans is a complete waste. You need to focus on the roads and people on the sidewalks instead of being able to fully focus on all that is going on around them.
ReplyDeleteSTR, did the Big Boss acknowledge quality of life concerns include distruptive decibel level of noise from ice rink including installation and dismantling?
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteYour blog has made some really good points but in the end you've become the ticket taker to a dark circus full of rabid clowns and paranoia.
>>STR, did the Big Boss acknowledge quality of life concerns include distruptive decibel level of noise from ice rink including installation and dismantling?<<
ReplyDeleteNo, that topic was not brought by me. Though I can't speak for the Big Boss, my sense is that the Ice Rink is an "amenity" for all, and that like a previous landlord it is used to sell the property.
>>Your blog has made some really good points but in the end you've become the ticket taker to a dark circus full of rabid clowns and paranoia.<<
ReplyDeleteShould be interesting. I will have photos.
Security is very poor here, especially at night. You never see them on foot patrol. Where are the increased patrols that Rick promised after the rape occurred? They never seem to be around when you want to report something and they never seem to "see" violations. Three brothers were smoking near my building yesterday. Of course there was no PS officer around. They never see when the ones moving out dump garbage. The funny thing is that these things happen in front of 2-4 Oval which is their headquarters. The only time you see them is when
ReplyDeletethey are walking into the offices carrying bags of food from outside or clustered in large groups gossiping. A sorry excuse for a public safety squad as our TA is a sorry excuse for a resident advocate group. Yes, and thanks to Dan, DeBlasio and the TA for turning us over to this greedy, deceptive company, Blackstone.
Again, folks: PUBLIC SAFETY HAS BEEN ORDERED TO DO NOTHING.
ReplyDeleteIN ADDITION, BLACKSTONE BELIEVES THERE ARE TOO MANY GUARDS AND CONSIDERED ELIMINATING PUBLIC SAFETY ENTIRELY.
This from at least one of them recently.
Tonight I had to call public safety because the dorm idiots beneath me were again smoking a fruity substance which was permeating my apartment. The officer about summed it up. He said that they were smoking an organic substance, not an illegal one, so he couldn't do anything about it. He then said that he could not control what they do in their apartments. When I said that I would report them to resident services he said that it was a good idea. Anything goes here. They have free rein. What does the big boss say about that? I can still smell that nasty stench in my nose.
ReplyDelete>>He then said that he could not control what they do in their apartments. When I said that I would report them to resident services he said that it was a good idea. <<
ReplyDeleteTake PS up on it and see what Resident Services says, if anything. If don't know about an "organic substance." Do people actually smoke that, whatever it is?
>>IN ADDITION, BLACKSTONE BELIEVES THERE ARE TOO MANY GUARDS AND CONSIDERED ELIMINATING PUBLIC SAFETY ENTIRELY.<<
ReplyDeleteAh, I don't think they can do that unless they have a replacement. And what about those signs that say PS is 24/7?
BTW, was there any information about the Oval Office meeting at the Oval on the TA Facebook?
ReplyDelete"BTW, was there any information about the Oval Office meeting at the Oval on the TA Facebook?"
ReplyDeleteNo, but anyone who is a PCVST tenant on FB (it is a public page) should be on the SPS email blast list. OK I'll do a copy and paste and post it there.
http://www.amny.com/transit/beyond-hoverboards-mini-bikes-go-karts-golf-carts-and-other-vehicles-banned-in-nyc-1.11144261
ReplyDelete>>No, but anyone who is a PCVST tenant on FB (it is a public page) should be on the SPS email blast list. OK I'll do a copy and paste and post it there.<<
ReplyDeleteThank you. It seems strange that an Oval meeting with tenants should not be publicized on the TA page. Potentially, it is a very important meeting that tenants should be aware of.
I had no idea about the meeting, and I follow these sites closely as well as reading the emails from Stuy. I know about the Oval Office, but this is the first I heard of this. Susan, where the hell are you and your team????????????
ReplyDeleteSTR, there is never anything of substance on the TA fb page. It's just fluff, like the official management page. If a serious discussion breaks out about quality of life issues here, the thread will soon get closed down. Nobody is allowed to criticize management, Garodnick or DeBlasio. Dems da rules.
ReplyDeleteThere are "rules" and there are "rules"... Motorized bikes are a no-no for sure, and many of the riders do not have any ID which tells a person what restaurant they are from. On purpose. Part of my project is to name these restaurants and out them. Why is the TA not doing this? Why is PS not doing it?
ReplyDeleteThe other concern is golf carts or club carts. There are more and more of them in STPCV. Are they allowed to ride any which way they want? Management will say yes, but though the law is kinda confusing, at least initially, I will find out for sure. I hope. Why is the TA not doing this?
Coming up is the great day when lanyards will be checked! I will be there, and will report. Why is the TA not doing this?
STR, the TA does FUCK ALL for the tenants! The TA is a political entity, created to support and shill for the politicians who pay them. Don't expect the TA to do ANYTHING for the tenants.
ReplyDeleteRemember that letter from Steinberg after the attempted rape and murder? Did she ever follow up on that? No. There is no more security presence than there was at that time and Steinberg, if she were truly a tenant advocate, would have followed up on that and take Management to task. The TA is in bed with Management and in bed with our so-called representatives. I think that most tenants know that. At least the long time tenants know that. I don't think that transients are even aware of the TA's existence. The TA should just disband because it is a useless (to tenants) organization.
Right now it looks very bad for Blackstone, PS and the TA. You see, I was outside as the weather has cleared up earlier. I saw so many infractions of "the rules" that the count is useless. Seen also at least four ridden bicycles around the Oval right by a PS officer.
ReplyDeleteStr, i admire you but feeling bad. I know you're just wasting your time . Blackstone and rick are playing you. Big big time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 5:23. I hate to be pessimistic, but I do not see change forthcoming. Unfortunately we do not have a viable TA to fight for us. Nothing else would phase the powers that be. They will continue on their churning, destructive path. We can bitch and complain on these blogs, but it will not do any good. Blackstone has a plan and that is to make money.
ReplyDeleteThey show no regard for rules and this community becomes more and more Pig Stuy Town.
I'm sure we will all be singing "Oh,Happy Day!" on May 19th.
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot to add that not too long ago I saw a bicycle pedaling at the Oval pathway where bikes aren't allowed. There is also massive unpicked dog shit as one walks the pedestrian (and Zamboni and ST truck and club car) pathway leading from the 1st Ave loop. Just another day at Stuy Town. But don't forget May 19th! It all changes!
ReplyDeleteWhat happens on May 19? Nothing is going to change. If we had a TA then maybe things would change for the better, but the truth is we do not have a TA. I hope they don't come asking me to renew my membership because I see no reason why I should.. I've been talking to a lot of the tenants in my building and they are saying they see no reason to renew. Some are older people who are real RS, and some are families who have been here for a few years and are paying high rents. There are a lot of RS tenants here who got in just before the vacancy decontrol laws went into effect, so they are RS and been with the TA for maybe 18-20 years and wondering why they should bother.
ReplyDeleteThe TA used to serve a purpose and was very pro-tenant. Don't know why it changed and became pro-management instead. I suspect it had a lot to do with Daniel Garodnick and his phony condo-conversion plan. He waved the promise of ownership under their noses and, like rats, they deserted the ship as far as renters were concerned. They were too stupid and greedy to realize it was all a sham. Poor fools.
Seen tonight at 10pm:
ReplyDeleteNo security during my walk from 14th and B to 23rd and 1st. NOT ONE.
Two DOMINOS delivery men racing their motorized bikes through the oval, which was quite crowded. Again, no security to be seen.
Two men walking their dogs on to the property from across the street on 14th and B. Security?
Two moving trucks. At 10pm. On a Sunday. Security?
I think you catch my drift. There is no security in this place, and if I were a woman walking around this place at night, I would be extra careful. You need to know that you are on your own, and Rick isn't going to do anything until someone ends up worse than that poor woman back in March.
Yes, on May 19, the dorms will be vacated and the students relocated, the Airbnbers will be targeted and stopped at the fringes of the property, PS officers will appear on foot at all times, dog poop will disappear, bicycles and carts will slow don to a crawl, and we will all be singing "Oh Happy Day" and "Hail to the Chief" to Rick Hayduk. Keep dreaming STR.
ReplyDeleteWhat happens on May 19th????
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the "chillest" neighborhood. Updated, and we all have a dishwasher, too!
ReplyDeletehttp://roommates.roomiapp.com/stuytown-openhouse/?gclid=CLDnp9r08dMCFZiKswodeLEPNg
I love those bare floors, too. Really brings out the beauty of the place!
ReplyDelete>>What happens on May 19th????<<
ReplyDeleteAs someone else said:
"Yes, on May 19, the dorms will be vacated and the students relocated, the Airbnbers will be targeted and stopped at the fringes of the property, PS officers will appear on foot at all times, dog poop will disappear, bicycles and carts will slow don to a crawl, and we will all be singing "Oh Happy Day" and "Hail to the Chief" to Rick Hayduk."
I think we forgot to add that the TA will finally wake up and address the issues in the community. Hurrah!
ReplyDeleteThe two week grace period for dog owners ends on May 18th. That means May 19th, there will be enforcement.
ReplyDelete"Anyone walking an unregistered dog on PCVST property will immediately be issued a Notice of Lease Violation by Public Safety or, in the case of non-residents, will be asked to leave the property."
Immediately... not my rules, not my date, but I welcome these rules, as all PCVST should.
Something to think about. Posted by Edmund on the TA Facebook page:
ReplyDelete>> DHCR becomes irrelevant because the J-51 tax abatement expires (Google Roberts ruling) and almost all renovated apartments will no longer be covered by NYS RS law. The New York City’s Housing Development Corporation so called “affordable” lottery housing apartments (5,000) will be covered under NYC law, not NYS law, at that date. What tenant protections that will be lost when these apartments (NYC lottery) are no longer covered under NYS RS law or NYC RGB law, is a question that needs to be answered. So effective 6/15/2020, there will be 3 classes of apartments here. 1. Non renovated apartments (old school RS) covered under NYS RS law if the NYS RS law, sun setting every 6 or 7 years years, is renewed. 2. Renovated apartments (market rate) not covered under the NYS RS law,/NYC RGB law, only covered by any NYC residential housing laws that apply to all apartments. The rent will be whatever the market will bear, zero regulations on the amount, no right to have a renewal lease, no right to sublet, no succession rights,, etc. all gone . 3. The renovated NYC lottery (5,000) apartments.
Divide and conquer, it's the MO the British Empire used for years. TS, CWC and now Blackstone had their actuaries crunch the numbers for their investment rational.<<
I will add that the voices of those who care will be less and less as times goes on. And the prices of things will go up and up, and the mega apartments will go up and up, too.
ReplyDeleteThe rich will get richer, and everybody else will have to struggle. This will only change if another tragedy hits New York, which I don't want, having lived through the nightmare of 9/11.
Of course, there is some hope (hope springs eternal) that things will change otherwise, but....
There are only a total of 4 security available at all times. How do you expect both properties to be patrolled. That's why !^%!@$ happens around here all the time. Everything about this place is a joke.
ReplyDeleteNoticing that Yelp reviews which was negative, not posted. Interesting .!
ReplyDeleteI meant security vehicles. And as far as a TA? I don't think they exist anymore. I have actually gone on their website, clicked on MCI, and this the message you get. This has been going on for almost TWO MONTHS now. Something is not Kosher here.
ReplyDelete"Sorry, we're updating our page.
Check back soon for more information.
If you received a Notice to Tenant of MCI Rent Increase Application, let us know by filling out our online docket tracker form.
If you need immediate assistance, click here."
This organization is a disgrace.
Well, I guess I realize why security was not present anywhere anywhere on the property last night... they were responding to Marsh's mother falling. Obviously it's nice they were able to help and I'm glad she's ok, but if they weren't responding to this I would be even more concerned than I already am about their disregard of just about everything.
ReplyDeleteI have thought about this in the past, and this post by Marsh furthers my belief that they are so quick to respond to the elderly incidents because they want to check the pulse and see if they should have the renovation crew prepped for a new turnover. That's how money hungry and sick these vultures are.
I did call about our Mci increase (peter cooper ) and the TA told us we can really only help current paying members. I did also fill out the form, led us no where. Quite a shame Id say and could add more but the words and experience with them was or has been terrible, just awful.
ReplyDeleteDo the mommies and daddies of the students know that we have next to no security here? I think the attempted rape and murder was conveniently brushed under the carpet because it wasn't in any other news than T&V and briefly on the TA fb and on STR. I believe there is a lot of crime that happens here that is just hushed up because it would give the rent-payers of the students an insight as to what this property is really like. Security/PS has been downsized to an extreme degree by these bloodsuckers and the replacements, i.e., cameras do NOTHING because they are not even monitored.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the TA is in on this. Notice how Steinberg, after her initial (and uncharacteristic) letter to Management, has been totally silent. The TA is in on all of the shit that goes on with Management and, what is worse, they are on board with it. Maybe Marsh has some special arrangement with PS and Management concerning his mother. It wouldn't surprise me because he would be devastated if the Death Team swooped on her apartment before her body was cold, when that sad time comes. I hope Mrs Marsh lives to be 110, but many of the elderly here have their relatives/executors on notice that they should be prepared to fight off the Death Teams when the time comes. This is the most predatory bunch of bastards who ever drew breath and we should not be surprised at anything they do.
They make Bernie Madoff look like Ghandi.
The will is not there. Right now, and we are talking about a few days before May 19th, the rules are being discarded by some of our residents and non-residents, and no one cares. Blackstone can and will say and that, as well as PS, but the will is not there. Sorry, this is what I see, rather than what I am told.
ReplyDeleteI saw PS staff the small booth at the Oval, but so what? I saw the same PS officer look and pass by a resident or non-resident with no Stuy Town lanyard. The PS officer said and did nothing.
ReplyDeleteIf I see this, others see it or something similar, too.
May 15, 2017 at 9:06 AM because this Mayor did what the developers wanted and he refused to do what is right for the People with a co-op conversion. On the MCI charges, has the TA has nver won an MCI challenge?
ReplyDeletePost this and all security lease problems on Yelp and other social media sites.
ReplyDeleteThat TA site keeps posting things that have nothing to do with conditions in the community. What a joke that site is--Peter Stuyvesant, whoever that is. Trying to get the attention off this pigsty. The TA is worthless.
ReplyDeleteVenting your frustration is one thing, but please stop with the conspiracy theories regarding the TA. You may not find them to be as helpful or powerful as you would like, but they are not in bed with Blackstone and management.
ReplyDelete"I think the attempted rape and murder was conveniently brushed under the carpet because it wasn't in any other news than T&V and briefly on the TA fb and on STR."
ReplyDeleteLike much of the conspiracy crap that is posted (I am not referring to the STR himself) at this blog, this is an absolute lie.

I think that the conspiracy theories regarding the TA being in bed with management are due to the following: every time you write to the TA they respond with "e-mail Rick". They never take on written requests. In addition you never hear from them regarding QOL issues. They strongly supported the Blackstone deal. It is hard not to see them as an arm of management.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that the alleged and possible murder and rape has taken its normal forgetful course in the news, until court time. As to what's happening in STPVC, how many weeks was it before we saw those plastic placards informing us that PS was 24/7? PS was not 24/7 during the potential rape and murder. Now I know that Blackstone wants the issue of a potential rape and murder to disappear and that they will try to have residents forget about it. They want residents to forget. It is up to us to not have them forget that easily, particularly if the property is not being run the way it should. Not my rules, btw.
ReplyDelete>>Venting your frustration is one thing, but please stop with the conspiracy theories regarding the TA. You may not find them to be as helpful or powerful as you would like, but they are not in bed with Blackstone and management.<<
ReplyDeleteIf I were a betting man, I would bet that there is no conspiracy going on. However, the TA is woefully inadequate to its job. I can list all the instances where they are absent. It would be a long list.
Of course, this depends on one's meaning of conspiracy. If we mean that the TA is playing into the hands of Blackstone by not demanding (yes, demanding) that certain rules be followed and having its own TA people verify, then we are talking conspiracy. If the "books" of the TA are not open, then we are talking conspiracy.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know the paid membership of the TA, then (let's say 10 and 20 years ago) and now. Simple.
ReplyDeleteIn the unlikely event that the TA does win a reduction on an MCI, it will apply to every tenant in the building who are affected by said MCI. It won't be for only those who have signed the TA blood pledge and forked over their $50. It doesn't work like that. Just as we are all slapped with an MCI, so we are all get the fifty-cent reduction that the TA might "gloriously" win.
ReplyDeleteUntil the TA opens its financial books AND tells us the number of paid members, they have NO LEGITIMACY whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteThey are a bunch of self-important non-entities who do NOTHING for the tenants.
Their standard response to any query: "E-mail Rick".
What a joke!
Anyone who gives them $50, let alone 50 cents, is a fool!
The TA needs to prepare itself. There is a large group of market raters that are fed up with their inaction, and we are just about ready to come forward with an alternative group that will make sure things get done. We have more than enough legal backing within the group that our voices will no longer be suppressed by management or the current TA.
ReplyDeleteYou heard it here first, now just get ready for our official launch in the very near future. We will fight for all tenants, MR and RS, and we will not have an annual fee as we will be a true volunteer organization from top to bottom.
Waiting with bated breath for enforcement of BLUE LANYARD Rule beginning Saturday, May 19th. Token enforcement for a day or two. Then NOTHING.
ReplyDeleteNothing will change..
The whole thing will be forgotten after a few days trust me.
Is the TA getting upset that they continue to get bashed for doing nothing for the tenants? That they care more about what Garodnick says than the tenants? That they only help tenants that pay their $50 fee?
ReplyDeleteOpen your books and full meeting minutes to the entire property, then the conspiracy theories can be put to rest. Until then, they are all 100% corrupt in my eyes.
Good people of the sty, need i remind all of you that it is because of the STPCVTA, Little Dan Garodnick, and Rick Hayduk (working in concert) that we live under the conditions that we do. An environment, unlike the rest of NYC, that is free of cracked sidewalks, dog shit and piss (although there are thousands of dogs here), and complete personal safety. How about a little gratitude? We have THEM to thank for these living conditions, yet all I hear is incessant complaining. We should all be very grateful to have such competent entities looking out for us. I know I am.

"Of course, this depends on one's meaning of conspiracy. If we mean that the TA is playing into the hands of Blackstone by not demanding (yes, demanding) that certain rules be followed..."
ReplyDeleteDemanding? You can only demand something when you have the man power, financial resources and a strong conviction that the law is on your side. Most of the quality of life infringements that take place here are not covered by any law. What's needed is an owner who is willing to do the right thing simply because it is the right thing to do. Clearly, Blackstone doesn't fit that bill. Their focus is mostly on the bottom line, not tenant complaints.
12:47 PM, I do hope and pray that you are correct in what you say, but I have feeling that what you say is wishful thinking or a hoax.

ReplyDeleteI await!
I am the 12:47 poster. What started as a group of parents talking at the playground has grown into a full fledged group of at least 100+ residents signing on to help launch. We have had a meeting with over 60 of us in attendance, starting the process to go live. There are a few more small hurdles that our tenant attorneys are ironing out. In the meantime, aside from word of mouth, we are starting to spread the word by social media. We hope to be up and running by July 1.

Local alternative to to the TA? Joke. I have contributed both time and money to this organization. I recommend others do as well.

8.51 PM to 7.00 PM. I am hoping that I stand corrected, will wait for your roll out. Good luck.
ReplyDelete7:00 PM, oh please, please be on the level. I would join you in a heartbeat and I know many others who would too. We are so sick of having a TA in name only and which we know to be in bed with management and disciples of Garodnick.
ReplyDeleteI can vouch for 12:47. I was at the meeting that was held at a friends midtown office, and there were 63 of us in attendance. Mostly young professionals with families living in market rate apartments, but there were a few rent stabilized tenants there.
ReplyDeleteAs for some people questioning the initial poster, I understand. Things can seem far fetched on a daily basis with the things people say. We are not here as an alternative TA, we just want to give tenants a true forum to air their quality of life grievances with the support of other tenants.
If this group is legit, I can only imagine the worry in camp Steinberg at this point. I can't say I'm surprised that this is finally happening, but it would never have needed to come to this if the TA did what they were set up to do, and that is to represent the tenants.
ReplyDeleteHey 6.37 AM
ReplyDelete"We are not here as an alternative TA"
So we will see when the roll out occurs.
There IS no TA. Period.
ReplyDeleteIf the TA gets any reduction of an MCI, it always amounts to a dollar or two. The annual fee of $50 is more than the annual amount of savings on any MCI. I believe (just my thought) that the TA is in bed with Management and they strike a deal concerning roll-backs of any MCIs. The MCI "fight" is just a smoke and mirrors show.
ReplyDeleteDating back to at least 2010, the STPCV TA Board betrayed (and is still betraying) all (100%) of its constituents on behalf of just one very high dues paying constituent. His name is Garodnick.
ReplyDeleteSTPCV TA Foundation's slush fund received the following $$$$ from:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/citycouncil/html/budget/expense_funding.shtml
2017
$10,500 Manhattan Delegation
$15,000 Garodnick
2016
$10,500 Manhattan Delegation
$15,000 Garodnick
2015
$12,000 Garodnick
2014
$3,500 Manhattan Delegation
$5,000 Garodnick
Speyer tried and failed to destroy our historic middle class community before walking away without a scratch. After years of battling to save our homes and surviving through Speyer's hell, Garodnick's job was to run circles around our STPCV homes yelling and screaming at REBNY/Wall Street predators to "STAND THE FUCK BACK!!!" away from the STPCV complex where he has resided for nearly his entire life. Instead, Garodnick hijacked the TA Board and together they threw all of us under the bus to help Blackstone succeed where Speyer failed. Since then, they have been claiming our guaranteed in-writing extinction is somehow the mother of all middle class victories. We should be grateful, thanking them for not throwing us under a train.
Thank you 12:48.
ReplyDeleteYet there are still a few people who call us conspiracy theorists because we point out the facts about the totally corrupt TA and councilman. What do they say now? All you need to do is follow the money and you will find Garodnick and Steinberg.

ReplyDeleteSo, the TA does not need our money. They seem to have plenty! Probably, the only people likely to send them $50 a year are the old timers who think this is a needy and worthy cause!
ReplyDeleteThis is the TA's "Pledge Form" I would like to know what is that thinly-veiled threat to people who don't check the first box?

ReplyDeleteI don't doubt that slimy Dan does some good, but your deflection away from the question at hand won't work, and that is, WHAT IS THE TA FOUNDATION AND WHERE DOES ALL THIS MONEY THAT THEY RECEIVE GO TO??
I think you know, because the only people on here that back Dan and the TA are Dan and members of the TA.
3:18 PM .. if tenants who don't sign the TA's blood pledge will not benefit from any benefits "which may accrue solely to those who sign the Public Member [blood] Pledges ...." is proof positive that the TA is in bed with Management and the MCI appeals are carefully orchestrated in collusion with Management. I'm surprised they are so stupid as to think that tenants are so stupid not to see through this! What a bunch of assholes! There is no way they can legally exclude non-pledgees from any "benefits" they "win" against Management! This creepy organization needs to be outed big time! The try to rip-off tenants to the tune of $50 per head to do nothing that benefits tenants. They don't even hold meetings anymore. The Tenants Association is about on the same level as Trump University!
ReplyDeletehttp://smallbusiness.chron.com/non-profit-organization-show-members-financial-statements-69532.html
ReplyDeleteHaving walked through Peter Cooper this morning, I can once again vouch what a disturbing mess it is, this before the workers do their morning clean-up. Not only doggie urine stains very visible outside near the entrance, but also unpicked dog shit on the walkway.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I do have to give a shout-out to a PS officer around the Oval who was actually doing his job. He spoke to several people around the Oval, one of whom had a dog taking a crap well inside the fountain area, actually as far inside as you can get. I wish we had more like him.
As a lifer that has known many of these guards for a long time, I know that they want to do their jobs, but have been handcuffed since Tishman bought this place. They tell me that Blackstone has basically made things impossible on them in terms of enforcement of rules, and even NYC laws. I'm not surprised by this at all.
ReplyDeleteHow can anybody pay dues to the TA? It really doesn't even exist anymore. When you answer residents with"e-mail Rick Hayduk(management), then you have lost all credibility. Wonder if they will hold another wasteful farce of a meeting.
ReplyDeleteOH! Poo and Pee stains everywhere. This place is a total disaster. Disgusting. Gonna be nice and hot today! Just take in a good deep breath.
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost, Blackstone wants as much profit as possible out of this property. Then other things come knocking, but the first one is profitability.
ReplyDeleteThis is not a new realization, but it is confirmed more than before. There is a resident group that is in favor of "improvements" in this complex and "amenities." There is a group that doesn't mind paying higher prices and using the credit card. There is a group that will be overjoyed at the closure of "mom-and-pop" stores and the emergence of high-end mega stores. There is a group that would like to see this complex as luxury living rather than the projects, which it was historically. There is a group that will not cry too much to have all the true RS tenants gone.
ReplyDeleteSTR@4:35 PM - is that group you speak the one that is mention upstream? The poster said they welcome MR and RS residents.
ReplyDeleteWhatever happens, it is pretty obvious that we don't have a TA anymore. So they run a facebook page and have a website (which very, very little on it) and they like to try and collect dues. But what else do they do? They are always on about dues and pledges, but they seem to offer very little. The TA seems like an empty building, which charges admission, but there's nothing there! I wish I could think differently of it; indeed, I would love to think differently of it, but they don't make it easy to see them as a viable, worthwhile entity that one should give $50 a year. Money is tight and ever dollar counts. I want to know what I would be spending my money on if I joined the TA.
A lot of that group live in the buildings on the First Avenue Loop, 272, 274, 276, 278, and 300 First Avenue. (in reply to May 18, 2017 at 4:35 PM). There is a lot of anger towards the rent stabilized in those buildings.
ReplyDeleteA nice weekend equals a lot of time in the oval this weekend, so I will be keeping a close eye on lanyard checks. I usually don't walk my dog to the oval, but I may bring her over there a few times to see if I get checked. It's go time.
ReplyDeleteMay 18, 2017 at 4:35 PM City Council, City Hall and Albany, the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York and the New York Hotel Trades Council are included in that group who want all the true RS tenants gone.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteWhere are these things that cost $15,000? What are these tenant education programs? What are the organizational costs? Why are volunteers getting paid for administrative support work?
$15,000 is a lot of money.
What is all of this? What are they spending the money from Garodnick and Manhattan Delegation on? This is a lot of money! What is the TA doing with all of this money?
"Funding will support tenant education programs and support organizational costs, and administrative support."
There may be a group that would like to see this community as luxury housing, but it is certainly not. It is quite the opposite, more like a project than ever. It is dirty with a nasty demo. Nothing luxury about it. That is the irony. As rents get closer to luxury levels, the place fills up with transients and students. There are no real amenities here. It is a dump.
ReplyDelete8:12, that is the million dollar question. Susan, any details?
ReplyDeleteWhat a mess

""Funding will support tenant education programs and support organizational costs, and administrative support."
ReplyDeleteTotal BULLSHIT!!!!!
So the TA "Foundation" has received $71,610 from Dan and the Manhattan Delegation since 2014. This is to cover tenant education programs and administrative costs, so why is the $50 membership fee needed?
ReplyDeleteIf anyone still believes in the crooks at the helm of the TA, you deserve the crap they are selling you. Ask them for details on where this $70k has gone and see what they say.
$15,000 goes pretty quickly when you're paying lawyers to fight multiple MCIs. DHCR never saw an MCI it didn't like or approve with little adjustment. For those who don't know, DHCR is the state agency that approves MCIs and we all know how rent-stabilization unfriendly the state is.
ReplyDeleteReally getting tired of people here not thinking more deeply about these kinds of things and just spouting off instead. If people think they can do a better job than the TA, go for it. Since noise is one of the biggest complaint here, I can't wait to see how YOU get Blackstone to make sure tenants have their floors properly covered. If you can succeed in that, my hat is off to you.
Unless the TA opens its books and lets us know where the $15,000 went ( tenant education programs...hahaha...you have to be kidding ), then the matter rises to a level of possible criminality...a slush fund, kickbacks, where EXACTLY did the money go?
ReplyDeleteBikini Susan and the rest of the Tenants Association hierarchy may be in deep doo doo.
I have a friend who is a reporter for the NY Post who is most interested in looking into this.
$47,000 Garodnick
ReplyDelete+$24,500 Manhattan Delegation
$71,500 Total
This is absurd. What on earth did the TA spend $71,500 on since 2014?
I was talking to one of my neighbors (a guy who has lived here forever, it seems, who watches out for everyone in the building I might add) had an ant infestation recently and due to a child with Autism asked for a two hour accommodation but was refused by the service department. He claims he tried to get a call back from Rick as to why but Rick never returned his call. He said he also called Blackstone and never heard back. Service told him to take care of the problem himself. This is just truly disgusting. If Blackstone kept the place in even decent shape this wouldn't happen. Ants must be a luxury item eh, Rick. I hope he sues!
ReplyDelete6:51 AM, we are not talking about just $15,000, but a lot more than that. As for the MCIs, the TA works out a deal with management. The miniscule amounts that the TA "wins" are not worth the effort, if there is any effort. I think it's all pre-arranged so that management gets almost all of what it demands and the TA comes out looking like they did something. That's what I think.
ReplyDelete12:15 PM. I don't understand. Was Service willing to send somebody, but just not in the 2 hour time frame the tenant requested, or did they totally refuse to address the problem?
ReplyDelete"$15,000 goes pretty quickly when you're paying lawyers to fight multiple MCIs. DHCR never saw an MCI it didn't like or approve with little adjustment. For those who don't know, DHCR is the state agency that approves MCIs and we all know how rent-stabilization unfriendly the state is."
ReplyDeleteWeak argument as clearly the TA received way more than 15k (which doesn't include dues). In addition to the 71+k identified here there is another 60k identified here in earlier posts plus other slush fund money. If you want to defend them, show us the books, otherwise, they will forever be labeled as corrupt. Period!
The autism issue is disgraceful. Tenant should file an ADA claim. Shame on Blackstone, (I think Jon Gray is top RE guy), SPS and especially Rick. Rick should be fired for that. Everyone knows Rick will only respond to callers who praise him.
ReplyDeleteThere are still many who love Mr.Hayduk because he responds to their e-mails. But what does he do about the problems? He will not be fired because he follows to the letter what his bosses at Blackstone want. He does nothing but appears to be responsive to tenants by answering their e-mails.
ReplyDeleteClearly, there is no way to convince some of the people here that the TA is NOT corrupt, so I will refrain from trying to do so in the future. Go ahead and think whatever makes you feel better, even if it's not true.
ReplyDelete@ 1:49
ReplyDeleteAs told to me SPS offered 8-noon (not even sure if it was for the next day) as only option. He asked if they could come after 10 so child could perform usual morning routine and be gone for school(he explained to me routines are extremely important). They refused and suggested he could do it himself. He said he didn't take that appointment because if exterminator showed up between 8 and 10:00ish he would have had to send them away and he didn't want to do that to them. He said he left message for Rick hoping to explain but never got a call back. The following week after not hearing from Rick he called Blackstone. As far as I am aware he still hasn't heard back from anyone.
Clearly, there is no way to convince some of the people here that the TA is NOT corrupt, so I will refrain from trying to do so in the future. Go ahead and think whatever makes you feel better, even if it's not true.
ReplyDeleteWhat if it is true, as it appears to be?
6:51 is obviously a member of the TA Board. Who else would try and justify them spending that money on MCI battles that they never win? If we had a legit TA, that $71k could have actually been used for the purposes that are stated. This organization is so corrupt it is unreal, and I really think that someone with a legal background really needs to let us know what we can do legally to have them open their books. That $71k is money that should be used on resources for ALL tenants, not just paying members.
ReplyDeleteSTR - your next investigation?
6:51 indeed appears to be a member of the TA board. Inspections by management can deal with that problem. If the TA cannot do anything they ought to disband.
ReplyDeleteThis should go on Yelp!
ReplyDeleteIf the TA would just be more transparent and maybe open its books (as all non-profits are required to do), we wouldn't be so suspicious of it. They behave like Trump with his tax returns. Total stonewall.
ReplyDelete5:02 PM, I thought the TA was a volunteer organization. I didn't know they paid any members. They certainly don't pay volunteers. The Board, I'm not sure about. I doubt the Board members are paid, but it would be good to know what they have in their coffers, where it comes from and where it goes. I think that is a perfectly reasonable request. In fact, it might be a legal requirement.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't stupid... I'm guessing the TA foundation isn't a nonprofit, so that's where the dirty work takes place.
ReplyDeleteI see public safety staring at their phones all the time when they're in those kiosks in the evening. They're not even doing their jobs.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, somebody please do something about these pasty white half naked people in their lawn lounge chairs parked in the middle of the fenced off grass roasting themselves in the sun. It's so nasty. That really projects luxury living here. More like trailer park.
The TA board of directors. The volunteers who work for the TA. None of them is paid. They all donate their time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 2:32. The oval looks so cheap and tacky with the sunbathers. It does resemble a trailer park.
ReplyDelete5:33am Then WHERE has the $71k since 2014 gone? And no, I will not accept lawyer fees as a response.
ReplyDeleteThis group needs to be investigated once and for all.
If the TA board is volunteering their time, then they are wasting their time. What exactly are they doing? They no longer field and handle complaints and requests from tenants. They refer all issues to Rick.
ReplyDeleteHow can dog lanyards take priority over property security, which is probably at its worst in the 47 years I've lived here. By enforcing dog lanyard checks but ignoring carpeting issues, noise violations, speeding bikes and reckless golf carts, Rick has shown his hand, and that is to ignore the things that actually need to be fixed and fix the easy things.
ReplyDeleteMay 12, 2017 at 8:57 PM
this is true. I know lanyards and dog shit are a big issue here, and I understand that everyone has different priorities, but I would rather walk through a sea of dog shit if I could have a quiet apartment, for a few nights a week. Unless you live with constant disturbance from other apartments, you have no idea how bad it is.
To the "alternative TA group" fantasy, if this is coming from MR tenants-- no fucking way. sorry, but every single new MR tenant that has moved in next door to me or above me has NOT GOTTEN CARPETS--literally, every fucking one of these people. And since these assholes move in and out every year, because they cant really afford the rents but they're "aspirational," I have known many, many new MR tenants. let me repeat that for those in the back row, literally not a single one of them gets carpets, and I have called and called about this, I've tried to ask them, nicely, directly, politely explaining the acoustic situation here. no dice.
So any tenants group organized by MR tenants can fuck right off, as far as I'm concerned--my experience with these people is that they dont want carpets, they want to make as much noise as possible, and everyone else be damned. I have to assume this is due to resentment at their higher rent, which they stupidly agreed to, all by themselves, no one is forcing them to be here.
Jack, I am part of the group you are bashing without knowing a single thing about, so let me spell some things out for you.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely correct with regards to a fairly large number of MR apartments not having carpeting. We have made it clear amongst us that you can not complain about apartment noise if you are not in carpet compliance.
You are wrong about a few things though:
- Other than 2 couples, all of us have been here for 5+ years. About 16% of the group has been here 10+ years, myself included. The large turnover is in students and younger professionals, not established professionals with families.
- For the most part we can afford the astronomical rents. We usually leave because we buy an apartment/house, not because of the rent.
- There is no animosity in our group towards RS tenants. 20% of our group is RS. We have noticed that the animosity comes from MR tenants that are struggling with their rent, usually the younger professionals under 25.
10:21 AM, I hope your group does get underway and I would very much like to join it. I am a long-time tenant and, of course, have an RS rent. We are the demographic that management is trying very hard to get rid of. They can't evict us because we don't do anything to warrant eviction, but they make our lives a total hell in every way they can. They put the noisiest, nastiest, obnoxious young "don't-give-a-shit" tenants as close to us as possible. Not all of the MR tenants are young and disruptive. Many of them are older and simply can afford the rent and want to live here. I don't think management wants them to stay too long because they can't churn the apartments if people are happy and contented. I have no intention of moving, no matter what happens, not because I wouldn't like to live in a pleasant and peaceful place (like this dump used to be), but because I don't have the money to go elsewhere. If management can make the elderly sick and die or go into nursing homes, that is what they will strive for. Fortunately, I am extremely healthy and will probably outlive most of them!
ReplyDeleteBlackstone has the absolute worst reputation in the RE industry and we were turned over to these bastards by Quislings Garodnick, Steinberg, De Blasio, et al.
