And Now For Something Completely Different

Well, it is the fall.... By the Oval Fountain. And these leaf colors won't be there for long...

  1. Sty Town certainly does have its beautiful side. The lovely trees are what make it. Take away the trees and it is an ugly, sprawling project. The buildings sure ain't pretty! I think we finally have a decent on-property landscaper.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I don't know if he is "the landscaper," but I see the same guy year in and year out. He is always there, giving orders to those below him.

Yes, the landscaping can be lovely, but it was much lovelier before a lot was cut down. I'm not speaking of trees but of plantings. Much has changed. There was a time, during spring through fall, where I could sit at the other chess area, the one nearer to the east side, and feel I was in the country, not in the city. Not anymore.

But you work with what you have.

  3. True, STR, they did destroy so many trees that it took away the bucolic, peaceful atmosphere. Trees have many, many benefits that the morons who ordered their destruction either didn't know about or didn't care about. They oxygenate the air, act as barriers against the wind and storms (when there are enough of them to form a barrier); they protect the grass from sun and excessive rain; they muffle the sound of the City and they are home to many birds and squirrels. Migrating birds used to make the property a pit stop (I once saw a snowy owl here during a particularly bitterly cold winter when the bird must have flown south to warm up a bit!)

The morons who ordered the destruction of so many trees to open up Oval for commercial reasons and destroyed so many of them for their ugly "amenity" buildings were soulless cretins. We have had a plethora of soulless cretins running this property over the last several years, but hopefully this management has more brains and class.

There is a young landscaper who has been here a few months and he has some very good ideas. I chatted with him one day and he struck me as being a really knowledgable and intelligent person. I think he said his name was Wesley.

  4. Most of the people living here now have no idea of how beautiful the property used to be before the massacre of the trees. They have no understanding of why the long-time tenants are so sad and angry about how it is now. They (the newer tenants) have no way to compare how it is now and how it was just a few years ago.

  5. "But you work with what you have."

A widespread belief by the majority of the population and a maybe little defeatist. But it is never a mantra of the 1% who reject even a shred of defeatist, or a shred of "it is what it is". That is why they call the shots and we get shot.

  6. Please note that I showed photos of the trees at the Oval Fountain area. There's about four. I did not show photos of "the property,' like the loops! LOL.

    So noted. :)

  8. The blame for the loss of the trees falls squarely on the political TA Board and the three pols city council, senator and assemblyman, who run the TA board all who were in favor of the condo amenities replacing the trees.

  9. I found the email at the TA Facebook page, dated November 9th. Though this is something, I would like to have the original mail, which sent apparently by Stuytown Property Services. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    "Operation E-Bike

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) teamed up with the NYPD's 13th Precinct on November 2nd to crack down on illegal motorized bicycles. These bikes are commonly used by delivery people passing through property and cause an unsafe condition for residents.

With the help of our friends in the nearby precinct, 7 of these bikes were confiscated with a summons written to the offending business. The NYPD will be back on property for another patrol next Thursday. StuyTown Property Services thanks the 13th Precinct for their help and cooperation."

    ReplyDelete
  10. I've come back from the monthly meeting at the 13th Precinct for residents in that precinct. As it has been suggested, and now confirmed by me, the 13th is not interested in quality of life issues in this community because we have Public Safety. Yeah, you may pay taxes for police protection, but unless it is a serious crime, the cops are not interested. Hate to be that blunt, but there it is.

    ReplyDelete
  11. BTW, the police couldn't believe that the next crackdown was given advanced warning by DPS in that email. That's why I would appreciate the original. As it is, I will forward the mail that I do have (without names) to the 13th.

  12. Regarding the trees and their "uses:"

WE, and not trees, are destructive, malicious, malevolent. NOTHING is here for the "use" of humans. We have been here a very short time, and since we stopped foraging and, perhaps, hunting, for our food some thousands of years ago, we have become just plain cancer, plague and terror on this planet.

Just plain survival is the order of the day (and the night) for every living creature. Once human beings "learned" to store food, the entire Earth was in deep trouble. We go where we don't belong and gleefully, arrogantly torment, torture and destroy every single being which we believe we "own," "dominate, "are superior" to" and on and on with that idiotic and toxic arrogance of ours.

Every blade of grass, every cloud, every worm is of infinitely more intrinsic worth and value than are we. Fortunately, we'll be gone eventually, too.

Meanwhile, the poor, abused Oval looks more as she should: peaceful with all of her plants and animals. No ugly noisy, killing human animals. UNTIL THE JACKASSES TORMENT THE TREES WITH THEIR WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!

I just forwarded you the original SPS email blast.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I wouldn't care if they got rid of PS if we could come under the protection of the real police that we pay taxes for. As it is, we are paying for "security" that we don't have in the form of all those MCIs for "upgrading" security.

  16. November 21, 2017 at 8:15 PM That is their job. Nobody gets to pick and chose what parts of their job they want to do and neither should those who are paid to protect the public. That is just laziness.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree, but what can one do? We are at the "mercy" of whichever big landlord acquires us. I, and a few others, will try to fight this, somehow, but even the city's departments can be very lazy and not wanting to cause "any trouble." Of course, if we had an organization behind us (TA), we would stand a better chance. But we are basically on our own. I do not like that this is a reality, but it is.

  18. No building will ever be as beautiful as a tree. Spring, Summer, Winter, Autumn the trees are the most beautiful of all on the face of the earth.

    ReplyDelete
  19. What repercussions will management face from the NYPD for posting the date for the e-bike sting? None!

All it will do is make the NYPD less likely to work with management at all in the future. The person who stupidly publicized that information probably got a promotion.

  20. With the former city councilman's secrecy it can be assumed nothing good comes from lobbyists big money to them and that will no doubt continue under the current TA Board lobbyist future councilman. The very least the conflicted councilmen should give this community is transparency on all big money payoffs like George Arzt 2011 $22,500 payoff to the city council. The landlord is giving big payoffs to city departments like the Blackstone Grey $10 million to the Mayors Office of Television and Media under the guise of "education" but not given to the dept of Education and the Arzt City Council and all the lobbying money to politicians. For that fact, how much money is the PCVST TA Board funneling and paying to lobbyists and politicians and why aren't they open about that? How much was lobbyist and former President Emeritus Steve Sanders paid by the PCVST TA and to whom did his lobby firm funnel it to? Or current PCVST TA board and citycouncilman Powers and his lobbying firm Constantinople & Vallone or most ill-repute of all lobbyists Capalino & Co? How much money has and is the PCVST TA paying to lobbyists and to which politicians is it then paid? to Garodnick? City Council? DA Cy Vance? Mayor DEBlasio? governor Cuomo? Attorney General Schniderman?

Who all, each and every politician and lobbyist is the PCVST TA Board paying in the name of this community? That is what we want to know. Until that happens, the PCVST TA does not represent our voice.

  24. November 22, 2017 at 6:30 AM The time is coming for some serious House Cleaning. The press is on this and all over it. God Bless the Press and the First Amendment.

Who do they work for? Deputy Mayor GoldmanSachs-Glen and Mayor REBNY-deBlasio StuyTown dealers, work for RE as is clear from whom financially made out tremendously well in the StuyTown deal and who is stuck in the piled up muck.

With direct lines of communication Dweputy Mayor GoldmanSachs-Glen and Mayor REBNY-deBlasio are using their Public Office to further private interests of their real estate friends. When their friends go down, so should they.

This article is very telling, very revealing, exposing very troubling behavior by Deputy Mayor Glen and Mayor deBlasio. The nerve they have to even mock the democracy they undermine the power and authority of, is appalling. The closer to Kushner they get with investigations, the closer to Mayor deBlasio and circle of friends they get too. With a super closeness, they share the same dirty dealings and deals.

    https://www.politico.com/states/new-york/city-hall/story/2017/11/21/de-blasio-and-his-administration-had-a-warm-relationship-with-kushner-emails-show-121665

A reckoning is coming for Kushner that maybe on the national level news but it operates on the local New York City level real estate too. Kushner's puppet mastery political control over corrupt politicians and the deputies they place to head city departments is exposed for all to see. Let us all hope the reckoning clears out corrupt-to-the-core Tammany City Hall along with the White House.

  25. Oh yes, completely agree with that November 22, 2017 at 8:10 AM . Perhaps the NYPD instructed the management to post it so residents will shut up about complaints so the NYPD does not have to deal with StuyTown tenants complaints and can spend more time playing PR games with management. The landlord plays the NYPD just like they play politicians. They pretend to be buddies while they need them for something then will toss them to the curb once finished. If he is nothing else, he is really good at the smiling-buddy game. Their game is getting old and tired and the public is tired of their old game. Perhaps the NYPD and Management posted notices to silence our complaints, in another act where the management and city officials treat this community as if we are mindless and stupid whereas they are intelligent geniuses. The condescending tone that wafts out of all levels of management property services stinks of superiority complexes.

  26. The Constituents are Rising against the Self-Serving, Self-Promoting, Lying, Corruption. The Politicians would do well to align with their Constituents against to old ways of the political machine. The better start doing more for Constituents and for the benefit and Quality of Life advancement of Current Constituents as we define it and not how politicians define advancement for Constituents under their old guise of economic development corporations which serve and solely benefit the prosperity of private interests. Politicians have sunk so low and bled Constituents so dry they are scraping away the last remnants of quality of life for any and every way to further the prosperity of real estate developers.

DeBlasio wanted control of the schools and the Governor wanted a taxpayer funded Bridge called Cuomo. One man started a petition and now has 100,000 signatures and democratic politicians now opposing the deal. A deal where a Mayor got himself more power, a Governor got himself a bridge-naming immortality.

It is past time for the Constituents, the Public to be majority benefactor from electeds they put into offices that control the New York billion dollar budgets.

"The Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge was built under Andrew Cuomo, a fact that has not escaped residents who have signed the petition. They predict the short-hand version on the signs will be reduced to the "Cuomo" bridge.

“Andrew gave himself a pat on the back,” said Robert Zahm of Rye. “People will drop the ‘Mario,’ and call it the ‘Cuomo.’ He’s trying to hide behind his dad. But it’s just about Andrew, and that’s not a surprise.”

The naming of the bridge was vintage Cuomo. He muscled it through in late June, as part of the omnibus bill at session’s end. It’s the kind of up-or-down vote that characterizes Albany’s top-down decision-making, with legislative leaders making deals in private, and then announcing just hours before the vote.

That’s what happened on June 28. The Legislature had returned for a special session to address the extension of mayoral control of New York City’s school system, and sales-tax extenders for cities and counties around the state. That evening, legislators learned that the Cuomo naming was part of the package, said Abinanti.

“I’m just a guy from Port Chester who was watching TV and, on a whim, started a petition,” he said. “It’s not right for a politician to use his power to name something for a family member. We need to keep the Tappan Zee name, to stay true to our historical roots.”

  31. Do we have no viable TA or is it worse than that? Do we have a TA that is working against us? A TA who asks tenants to sign a pledge letting the TA be the only voice to city agencies that are doing wrong by tenants then uses that voice to bring about ZERO complaints against those city agencies? A TA who shuts down tenant complaints by putting city agencies on a stage and ordering tenants to speak up now or forever hold your peace? A TA who has won ZERO MCI challenges while keeping the 2 same law firms on payroll challenging MCI? A TA who employs the same PR firm as the Mayor and by extension the Mayor's City Agencies? A TA who kept secret from the tenants that the Mayor's favorite lobbyist whose earnings tripled with Mayor DeBlasio in office, is the lobbyist for the Peter Cooper Village developer Dalian Wanda?

  34. 9:59, the TA received a large sum of money from the Roberts settlement. It was leftover money split between the TA and Peter Stuyvesant Little League. We all want to know where that money went, as it was given to an organization that is supposed to fight for tenants, but clearly doesn’t. The fact that they hide everything under the sun makes me 100% sure that they are doing shady business. There is also some shady TA Foundation.

  37. We have three apartments on our floor where the long time tenant who is a Brookfield Tenant Association condo-conversion member move out years ago and has since subletted the apartments.

Two of the apartments are subletted to students with different ones each school year going on for years now.

These two original Brookfield Tenant Association tenants are getting a deal that they can sublet their apartments for years and not live there until the time the conversion happens. How many other Brookfield Tenant Association Tenants or Board Members are getting deals and what are their special deals for going along with and promoting the Blackstone purchase.

What did the Tenant Association and the Tenant Association Board get out of the Blackstone deal because the two apartments subletting to students have been doing it for over 5 years and that is illegal according to rent stabilization laws.

One of the apartments subletting was a Metlife employee. For a landlord that no longer is an owner they still have strings and pull and a big footprint presence stomping all over this place.

  47. Again: why the fear to ACT??? For instance: the 4:36 PM "med student" and laundry cart - why not walk up to him and demand that he RETURN THE LAUNDRY CART NOW!!!

Those neighbors who are subletting: why not TALK TO THEM - at first politely, see if you can find out names and contact information of the basta**s subletting the apartment and then CONTACT THE "owners" of the apartment??? Repeatedly??? Maybe find out which city agency might be interested? Maybe start giving the subletters a really hard, unpleasant time of it???

What are people so afraid of that they will fume silently and put up with every kind of sh*t behavior?

And yes: I do sometimes (sometimes often) take my own advice and OPEN MY MOUTH!!! I might try it nicely and politely and then find that nice don't work, baby. Then, the day goes somewhat less smoothly for the selfish human garbage which either chooses to ignore me or gives me a hard time!

This is typical have-their-cake-and-eat-it-too PCVST Tenant Association pretending to be a tenant advocate while actually being a developer tool and partner. This isn't the first time they do the least work required to feign tenant advocacy. Whether it is MCI challenges or Health and Safety Hazards this Tenant Association puts the needs and priorities of developers before tenants every time.

How is this not front page news with daily repeated posts and press news articles from the tenant association and their public relations press firms they pay.

    Because...

...this is a whole new level of depravity or maybe it is the same level of depravity we have seen since the TA finally came out into the open with their long-held property development stance when the TA openly partnered with the developers in the Brookfield alliance: as if tenants did not know all along the politicians Sheldon Silver and his number two man Steven Sanders have plotted the luxury development for over 30 years, as long as Sheldon Silver kept the lower east side lot empty for his developer friends.

Icing on the cake came December 1, 2016 when the tenant association board vomitously heaped gratitude onto Tishman Speyer employees aka Fortress Compass Rock CW employees aka StuyTown Property Services Management.

Maybe the depravity was always there long before the Brookfield partnership for as long as the politicians ran it, from the Assemblyman-lobbyist President Emeritus to the Paul Weiss-city council man to the current Vallone-lobbyist-city council man. The tenant association is surely conflicted and a few other words come to mind, some begin with the letter "c" (i.e. con)and some begin with the letter "f" (i.e. fake)

For those of you who have (or have seen the movies): I would dearly love for our trees to be Tolkien's Ents (treelike shepherds of the trees) who finally had enough of EVIL and tore up the hellish environment of one of the prime killers. And then trap him.

I have fantasies of Ents, whom we thought were the trees they still allowed to live here, uprooting themselves and rampaging throughout the land of our home, ridding us of both "Management/Landlord" and all of the selfish, shallow, destructive, stupid morons who further despoil our home with their inane and dangerous behaviors.

  70. Breaking news... TA Board Chair and the attorney behind the shady TA foundation, Kevin Farrelly, is posting on the TA Facebook page. He’s worried about the EV Grieve use of the word elderly to describe a driver. Hey Kev, how about you shed some light on this TA Foundation? Maybe open the TA books?

Those are things that concern us, not the use of the word elderly when describing an elderly driver.

  72. These people better start realizing very fast that they can’t pull fast ones on the public anymore. Whether it’s politicians, out shady TA, our owners, etc., they need to realize that we are armed with more information than ever before, and the things they hope to hide are no longer easily hidden.

We need Preet back, because there are a lot of people who deserve to be behind bars.

  74. Considering how they do business it is no surprise they are on the fed's radar but will the feds follow through because this is brazen...?

A source says the feds are investigating whether there was a coverup at SeaWorld about the negative effect of the documentary as Blackstone took the company public in April 2013.

Blackstone bought SeaWorld for $2.3 billion in 2009. Shares were priced at $27 in the 2013 IPO, hit a low of $12.12 in September 2016 and were at $18.30 in March, when Blackstone nearly tripled its money on its investment in SeaWorld by selling it to a Chinese firm. Blackstone declined to comment.
