I got there a little past the opening at 5:30. I would say the photos I took were between 5:45 and 5:55. Initially, before I went, I thought the "event" would be more inside ST/PCV, but it was as close to 1st Avenue as possible. So, the money spent by Management is promotional money to get more people interested in ST/PCV. Of course, I could be wrong. But I do hope the "event" will be greater for children. You know, the little one who are always interested in bright lights.
Anyway, my take is that the "event" was pathetic. As I wrote, you couldn't miss the lights--and the speak-loud singing and guitar strumming. Five Stuy Cafe? Everything was awful and meant for fly-over people and not real New Yorkers. At least I hope they are not real New Yorkers!
There were more people coming in, so don't let the very low numbers fool you. But who knows? Maybe few will make it to this ball....
I had to leave because the Vampire Ball was so bad. Oh, I got the name of the catering company. I will be checking. :-)
Update 10/27:
A ST resident sent in a few priceless photos, which I'd like to share in the spirit of things. Taken around 6:30....
Of course, you may have elected to go to Five Stuy Cafe instead and sit and relax and listen to the music:
Oh, wait... Not many people here as well.... At least the band is playing. Thanks, Blackstone!
(Hat tip to ST resident.)
Everything they do is pathetic. And families still don’t rent here. They can always depend on NYU. I bet some of the cheerleaders showed up. They live these tacky events .
ReplyDeleteCome back over to the cafe in Stuyvesant Oval where the "music" is blaring! Will this ever end! ?!
ReplyDeleteReally pitiful
ReplyDeleteEnough is enough already with these crap events. Just do things for the children.
ReplyDeleteRents are up in stuytown and petey coopey. They must be doing ok as they do not reduce or lower rents. I'd demand or install mandatory carpeting if I worked at BS though lawsuits are coming down the pipe 2019. Wait 4 it.
ReplyDeleteThey are doing OK because they fill the apartments with students, city subsidies and tourists. Steady source of high rents.
DeleteMajor issues with the floor and possibly the walls. You can 100% hear their farts and all. My question is it it faulty flooring, not insulated, paper tissue thin? E Yikes this is gross - Ya'll need to complain to your landlord. I'm subletting and not even planning to staying at 1/2 price my roommate pays.
ReplyDeleteThree Airbnb "visitors" pounding on door trying to gain entry on Terrace Level.
ReplyDeleteI told them to call Security to let them in.
They became nasty and argumentative.
"Why not? Why are you so rude?" they said.
I answered, "I don't know who you are. This is not a hotel."
One individual muttered something.
I responded," Here is an American idiom you might understand.
F*CK YOU".
Hahaha. I loved it.
What's that Rick? Susan?
Can't hear you.
Good for you. These people should be made to register in the office. Don’t even know if that would solve the issue as Blackstone needs Airbnb for rents.
DeletePosters on the TA site crying about missing the vampire debacle ball. Unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteIt seems not too many people showed up. Maybe just the cheerleaders?
ReplyDeleteAnd these people are thanking management for this crappy vampire ball. They are putting these thing on for PR, not for tenants. Interesting that on the weekly e-mail they said it was sold out.
ReplyDeleteHorrors. So many of the rah rahs are claiming that they didn’t know about the Halloween crap. So dreadful that they missed a Blackstone event.
ReplyDeleteNot only was the Vampire Ball a phony PR event, it was also foolish to have it outside in late October. Of course they had th have music blaring. Something indoors might have been better attended. I know someone who lives in a doorman building in the 90s, I think Mitchel Lama. They do a Fourth of July barbecue and Christmas party. That is it. Folks are happy with that. Yes, doorman building.
ReplyDeletePathetic, simply pathetic.
ReplyDeleteAnd the old lady dressed as a witch...
"Oh, Hi Susan!"
"How are you?"
"I'll have to call Rick and find out."
Hahahaha...truly pathetic.
I despise the noise from the so called "events".
ReplyDeleteMany others do as well.
It is an assault on the peace and quiet which we deserve in our homes.
Hey, Rick, this isn't a cruise ship or summer camp.
GROW UP.
i wish they'd just stop with this "entertainment" shit and leave us in peace. I live on 14th and have to deal with 24/7 noise and filth from outside. The cafe was a quiet place to go have a coffee and respite from the noise and filth. Now they've ruined that with extremely bad and unneccary "musical entertainment." Management loves to make us suffer. I really think there is vicious malice in the force-feedin of execrable noise and intrusion masked as "entertainment."
ReplyDeleteI think it is an in vain, useless attempt to get decent renters. Most do not fall for the fake amenity push.
DeleteI dont live near 14 or skate rink but I 2 agree. Leave us alone ya'll. Use the extra funds ya'll seem to have so much money to spend on shit, lower decent folks' rent. Enough with the MCI bunch of twits running this show. I am not a Market R tenant either.
ReplyDeleteExactly, lower decent people’s rent and you won’t have the low life student, tourist, and city subsidy demo we have now. But I guess you make more money the other way.
DeleteI can’t believe all the TA posters who are bent out of shape because they missed the vampire shindig. Get a life. Like it was some great event. Free cup of wine and the same crap music. Yay.
ReplyDeleteI like the events. Many do.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds us we are part of a community.
That we are parts of a whole.
>>I like the events. Many do.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds us we are part of a community.
That we are parts of a whole.<<
LOL. What community? All these events, including the "vampire ball," are poorly attended. So, yeah, what community?
I agree. This a transient place now, not a community. These events are mostly tacky and overdone. The only thing you call this place is a college community. Only the children’s events are attended well. As I posted earlier, some buildings have two or three events a year and they are stable residences with decent demos. The point of these events is to sell apartments and it is not working.
ReplyDeleteHa, ha. I glad not to be considered part of this Airbnb, dorm, transient whole community or whatever it is.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they should putout a statistical study on how many residents really want all these events and noise. Bet that most residents would want a decrease.
ReplyDeleteWe never used to have to be reminded we were a community and we didn’t have or need these tacky crap events.
ReplyDelete100/30,000 = .3% (I will use this as the average event attendance)
ReplyDeleteHow can you say these events make you feel like part of a community when .3% of residents are attending???
That is kind of like the TA calling themselves the nations largest TA.
The adult movies and concerts had 30 or 40 some nights this past summer.
DeleteI don't see the point of LOL'ing a community that you don't want to be a part of. You guys are like shitty mean girls who crap on everything.
ReplyDelete>>I don't see the point of LOL'ing a community that you don't want to be a part of. You guys are like shitty mean girls who crap on everything.<<
ReplyDeleteAgain, what community? All is see is vain and too obvious attempts at something called a community, but there is none. And this "community," small as it is, what is it a part of?
From what I see, you are correct: I don't want to be a part of it.
I will just give you a small example. The noise of that extension along 14th Street. Yes, I know that Management is not responsible for the noise, but as "good neighbors," a concept they introduced and are constantly promoting, shouldn't they offer some kind of rent rebate to those who hear it continually? Maybe they have....?
ReplyDeleteNo, they haven’t, and probably won’t
DeleteWhatever this mixture of transients, tourists, and mainly college kids is, it is certainly no community. I have my own friends and social community. Do not need this crap in a residential property.
ReplyDeleteYou have to LOL at a “community “ in which most apartments are turned over every year and where half of your neighbors are NYU kids. It is hilarious. If you do not laugh you will cry.
ReplyDeleteI think that if they had offered a rebate posters on the TA site might have mentioned it.
ReplyDeleteSTR, are you talking about a rent rebate for market
ReplyDeleteeaters or everybody, including us real RS tenants?’ We all suffer over here on 14th Street a/k/a Death
Row, but some of us pay more to be force fed cancer, madness brought on by sleeplessness and other forms of agony, and some of us pay less.
>>STR, are you talking about a rent rebate for market
ReplyDeleteeaters or everybody, including us real RS tenants?<<
Management/Blackstone should have someone over to check each building on "Death Row," and offer a rent reduction if that work can be heard (and also beyond normal hours). Every renter.
As far as Management/Blackstone crying over a rent reduction, let's get real. One of the major benefits for any landlord (if they can last that long, which Blackstone certainly can) is that property values will go up once the work is finished. Management/Blackstone will benefit, big-time. They know this and are certainly aware of this, even if they don't publicly speak about it.
ReplyDeletethe events are a nuisance for others. Stop being a selfish troll and admit that while they may be nice for you, they are not for others.
ReplyDelete8:18pm
ReplyDeleteI can guess which one of the 5 posters you are on the TA Facebook page, and you guys act like mean girls over there, so this is our opportunity to act like mean girls over here.
Up until 2005, I knew EVERY PERSON in my building. That is community.
My kids knew all the kids that lived here that went to PS40, Epiphany, and Immaculate. That is community.
Almost all tenants knew almost all of our public safety officers by name (positive or negative). That is community.
I hate to break it to you, but events where you drink wine with 20 of your other mom friends while listening to horrible performances is not community. You could do that in an apartment, and not disturb THOUSANDS that live right over the oval who just want peace and quiet.
You could use your influence over Rick to push for stability here, and that would be a step in the right direction for rebuilding community. But seriously, don’t come on here and say these horribly attended events build community.
Well said 9:05.
DeleteStuy Town has become just like the "projects".
ReplyDeleteExcept the rubes, suckers and fools who rent here are paying five times the rent.
Hahaha!
Enjoy your "amenities", suckers.
For 4 to 6 grand maybe you should expect a little more.
Hahaha!
@9:05 AM: WELL SAID! Very, very well said! You spoke for very many of us and I hope that Rick Heydik starts paying attention to the majority, instead of always pandering to the minoriity. Even the transients and students don't attend those "events," and they would never make the ludicrous claim that we are still a community. We will never be a community again unless Blackstone changes its business plan, but at least let us live in peace.
ReplyDeletePeople are conditioned to gradually accept horrendous, and sometimes life-threatening situations.
ReplyDeleteStuyvesant Town residents have been conditioned. I am writing, specifically, about the discussions of "events," "concerts," and all of that crap.
Forget the "community" meme, please.
IT IS ILLEGAL. PERIOD.
WE ARE AN APARTMENT COMPLEX, A RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX. There is nothing commercial, nor is there anything "entertainment" - based in an apartment building.
WE ARE A COLLECTION OF RESIDENCES, HOMES!
ALL OF THIS TOXIC, LIFE-DESTROYING and LIFE-MAIMING GARBAGE IS SIMPLY ILLEGAL, IMMORAL AND HAS NO PLACE HERE.
It is NOT about whether anyone "wants," or "likes," or "enjoys" this constant chaos. IT IS NOT LEGALLY SANCTIONED, nor is IT PRACTICAL, INTELLIGENT. A bicycle is not a toilet bowl. A piano isn't a sewer. A kneecap isn't a garbage pail. These comparisons illustrate the idiocy and ugliness of what Blackstone's morons and minions have done, are doing, and are ramping up.
WE AREN'T ENTERTAINMENT LOCATIONS!
To even debate the issue and offer opinions of any kind is clear evidence of how well they've conditioned us.
Don't debate it. END IT!
STAND UP AND FIGHT!
My parents moved into Stuytown in 1951. The rent was $55/mo for their one-bedroom. In 1961, when the rent had risen to $88, they moved into a two-bedroom for $125. I guess all the extra money you guys pay these days is meant to subsidize all the annoyance.
ReplyDeleteStop slamming the fucking doors. all day we get to listen to the same family who are five in a one bedroom, in out, in out, slam slam in out all fucking day. stuyshit manager do something we dont want to live like this is real trashy.
ReplyDeleteIt has been brought to local politicians’ and management’s attention that these events are not legal. Apparently they have some loophole. Unfortunately it will not end no matter how much many of us want it to.
ReplyDeleteThis IS now an overpriced project. Some of the projects are cleaner and nobody has to have the noise of shit-grade “entertainment “ forced upon them.
ReplyDeleteRegarding their events: "Unfortunately it will not end no matter how much many of us want it to."
ReplyDeleteIf people take action, it will end.
What kind of action? There is no viable TA and little support?
DeleteYup. It will not end until Blackstone wants it to end. Otherwise, they will ignore dissenting voices.
ReplyDeleteAgree STR. Five or ten dissenters make no difference.
DeleteIt will not end until these loudmouth cheerleaders stop saying they love these events, and push for stability in the community. My guess is that most just don’t care, because they are saving to buy a house and will be out of here in a year or two. They enjoy these crappy events, because it temporarily gives them pleasure for the short period of time they have left here.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile the people who plan to be here for 10+ years more will continue to suffer in order to please the people that believe these events build “community.”
If they had one event a week, for kids, from 4-6pm, I would be totally fine.
11:10. Absolutely. There is a group here which keeps pushing these events and that is how management justifies them. They also “appear “ to be a good PR sellin a place without true amenities. I for one would not mind one children’s event per week in the summer.
ReplyDeleteSTR - hopefully they start seeing that the dissenting voices are speaking loud and clear, and they have their little Vampire Ball to see just that. I walked by at 6:30pm and there were only Stuy Town employees there!! Not a single tenant.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the people (cheerleaders) who were talking about not knowing. This event was widely publicized, so I call BS with all those people.
Meanwhile, we lose another staple to the community. Sure their food and service were hit-or-miss, but it was still a neighborhood restaurant. I’m guessing with the rents Stuy Town is asking, we will either see a bank or a vacant storefront for a very long period.
A doggie grooming center, no doubt.
DeleteOur misery here can be ended.
ReplyDeleteThey can be stopped.
Please think a little more deeply, and beyond so-called legalities, the TA, etc.
Like what?
DeleteSome of the cheerleaders are related to SPS staff and others are on Management's payroll as "consultants." Remember the Pollyanna who argued so forcefully in favor of the composting when that was first introduced? Do you ever see her on the TA FB now? No, she did her consulting/PR work, picked up her check and went away. She may still live here, but she doesn't get involved in anything that is not up her professional alley.
ReplyDeleteThey think we are bloody fools who don't know how to search the internet! For some of us, finding information on the internet is what we get paid for!
If spineless Rick doesn't start doing his job and enforcing the rules here, his sloth and indifference could possibly lead to tenants taking things into their own hands, and we know that won't end well for anybody.
ReplyDeleteI overheard a tenant saying that if ever one of those blankety blank cyclists or skate boarders or scooter nerds ran into him or one of his kids, he would pull the the blank blank motherblank off the thing and break every bone in his blank blanking body.
I have absolutely no doubt that he COULD and very little doubt that he actually WOULD.
Maybe Rick should come out of his stupor and start doing his job as a property manager, not a resort director. If you're not up to the job, Rick, step aside because there are plenty of people who are. If you want to find a fool in New York City, you have to bring one with you, Rick. We are sick of you.
Do you really think that Blackstone would appoint a director who would run the place differently than Hayduk? You are not thinking clearly. They want him to run this place as he does.
DeleteSome were probably priced out of their apartments. Always new ones to rave about this place and insult those who make criticisms.
ReplyDeleteTo end the misery? Like what?
ReplyDeletePlease read history to learn how people overthrew despots, how they banded together to deal with those who preyed upon them, exploited them, sought to control them.
OK. There we go. How do we end, or at least interfere with the ongoing, escalating, deliberate misery caused by Blackstone, their moronic employees, and the dangerous and disgusting behavior of other people whom Blackstone INVITES to behavior like shit?
ReplyDeleteI wrote about civil disobedience, rent strikes, picketing, sit-downs, lockouts, etc., etc., etc. for months now.
6:26 p.m. recounted statements made by a fed-up, abused resident relating to the intention of inflicting violence upon anyone hurting him or his family.
Okay, folks . . . whaddya think? OF COURSE, WE'RE MOVING IN THAT DIRECTION. Torment any living being long enough and OF COURSE IT WILL DEFEND ITSELF.
11:53am
ReplyDeleteIs that you again Rick??
You are prepping yourself to go down as the property manager who single handedly destroyed this once great community. Sure Blackstone pays you well, but will your conscience let you sleep at night once this is all said and done??
Stop going to your Mommy and Me cheerleaders for reassurance on your piss poor job. Go to the families whose lives you are ruining, and ask them how they feel.
As the father of a disabled child, I used to respect Rick for all he was doing for the disabled children in the neighborhood. Then his true colors came to light. As I was dealing with extremely rude upstairs neighbors, who had no carpeting and partied well into the wee hours (think 4am), with verified security reports, he did nothing.
ReplyDeleteI begged and pleaded, and nothing. So for those of you saying Rick takes his orders from Blackstone, I say no, he’s just a callous bastard. I don’t wish ill-will on many people, but Rick hayduk is one of them.
" begged and pleaded, and nothing. So for those of you saying Rick takes his orders from Blackstone, I say no, he’s just a callous bastard. I don’t wish ill-will on many people, but Rick hayduk is one of them."
ReplyDeleteUnderneath that fake smile beats a heart as cold as christian charity.
I wish that Hayduk would leave and that Blackstone would put a real property manager in charge. We need someone who cares about the place and the tenants - especially the tenants! Rick is ineffectual and totally uncaring. He's also lazy and incompetent. We deserve - and are entitled to - better. Much better.
ReplyDeleteHow many times do I have to say that Rick’s company, Blackstone, is responsible for the conditions here. Any manager would be the same. He does what they tell him.
Delete"How many times do I have to say that Rick’s company, Blackstone, is responsible for the conditions here. Any manager would be the same. He does what they tell him."
ReplyDeleteYou can say it as many times as you like, but I don't believe it. Rick is the CEO and General Manager and he is responsible for the way this place is run. I don't believe the conspiracy theory that Blackstone is trying to drive us out by making us miserable and have ordered Heyduk to run it into the ground. I think he is doing that all on his ownsome. I really don't think he's very interested in running the place. I don't think he's in it for the long haul.
You can’t really believe that. Rick is not responsible for the rent rates which have led to a student and transient demo.He is a PR man. Blackstone has ruined the property by renting to this crap demo.
DeleteHayduk is a PR man. He has nothing to do with rent policy here. We have a QOL problem here because of the low life student and transient demo. If you think a different manager would improve things here then you are being naive.
ReplyDelete5:23 you do not understand corporate politics. A manager does not do things on his own and survive a tenure of three years if his superiors are not happy with him.
ReplyDelete" begged and pleaded, and nothing. So for those of you saying Rick takes his orders from Blackstone, I say no, he’s just a callous bastard. I don’t wish ill-will on many people, but Rick hayduk is one of them."
ReplyDeleteIf you are not getting any action from Heyduk and the Legal Dept. concerning your neighbors, I think you should call the cops every time you are disturbed at ungodly hours by your upstairs neighbors. You could get a lawyer and maybe stop paying your rent, but put it in escrow. If you a disabled child, I think you have a good shot at a successful lawsuit. Go to Tenants Court and talk to one of their pro bono lawyers. You can't let these evil people destroy your and your and your family's lives.
If Heyduk is refusing to take action, then he is one aasty prick and he should remember that what goes around comes around, eventually. The buck is supposed to stop with him as he is in charge, but if he is too evil and cold-hearted to intervene, then go over his head. Get the press involved, if necessary. It's too bad our local Council man is such a REBNY c*cksucker or he might be able to help. I wouldn't hold out much hope as far as he's concerned, but it's worth a try. He is PAID to represent us, even if he gets paid more by hs REBNY clents. Good Luck. Don't give up.
I agree with 5:23.... as long as this place is making money, they could care less how it’s being done. Once it stops making money, Rick will be replaced by someone who will come up with more asinine ideas that will make them money.
ReplyDeleteI’ve worked alongside property managers in communities of this size, for landlords as powerful as Blackstone, and the property manager was given autonomy to do as they pleased.
I can all but guarantee that Rick is calling the shots here, except for a few high-level financial aspects, which would ultimately get run through Blackstone.
But keep telling yourself that it’s not nice Ricky-boy making all these horrible decisions, if it helps you sleep better at night. I will use my actual professional knowledge in this industry, which tells me Rick is the decision-maker and is just like every other nasty property manager out there.
Hayduk does not set the rents to astronomical amounts. He may be a hypocrite and a lousy manager but Blackstone is responsible for the high rent and thus the low life demo here. The low life demo especially students is responsible for the decline in QOL. FYI Blackstone has a nasty reputation wherever they own property.
DeleteThe high level financial decisions are the ones that are admitting students, tourists, city subsidized and other low life demo in here. Ultimately that is responsible for the poor QOL. These corporate decisions are responsible for the flex apartments and NYU deals. Don’t kid yourself. If you think you would get a lovely competent manager here who would change things you are thinking wrong.
DeleteHayduk doesn't set the rents, but he's responsible for the quality of life here and it's clear that he doesn't care how much we suffer.
ReplyDeleteHe probably doesn’t care but the low life demo let in is responsible for the poor quality of life.
Delete
