May Odds and Ends

WHEN IS A PLAYGROUND NOT A PLAYGROUND?

When it's being used by our college/university student population for sunbathing.  Playground 10 was almost half taken yesterday with sunbathers, effectively pushing out the kids who wanted access to that playground.  What was more absurd is that yesterday was on the chilly side, making these self-entitled yahoos look very stupid indeed.  This playground should NOT be used for sunbathing.  (And neither should the fountain area.)  We've heard that complaints were made, and now it's time for management to make sure Playground 10 is for playing, not for sunbathing. And please, management, show some balls and don't wait to enforce this once the Oval Lawn is open for sunbathing.  Think of the children!

MEET SEAN SULLIVAN MAY 7th

As part of its Senior Events, the Community Center will host a Town Hall Meeting with Sean Sullivan, the latest manager of PCVST.  The meeting begins at the inopportune hour of 5:30pm, Tuesday, May 7th.  I'm assuming the event is open to non-seniors?  So, come on down if you ain't working!

SUMMER EVENTS

The latest email from PCVST tells us that its summer concert series will begin June 8th with Soul Asylum.  What, Tom Dorsey and His Orchestra wasn't available?  Anyway, the promise is that PCVST will host less concerts this year, but what disturbed me was the return of sports games being shown on the Oval.  The first one is scheduled for a Saturday, so there goes your restful weekend.  Really, watching a sporting event on a balloon on the Oval Lawn is tacky and so primate....  Few residents attend anyway.  What a waste and noise/visual polluter.

Update: On the TA Facebook, Edmund John Dunn has noted that the Soul Asylum concert is being advertised on the band's website without the notation that the concert is for PCVST residents and their guests. Worse, the concert has a Buy Tickets page at MTV.com:

Recently, CWCapital has been proactive in stressing the "for residents and their guests" in advertising material (even if there's zero enforcement of the rule), so the above is probably due to misunderstanding and confusion, right? Management needs to alert all bands that will be playing in the Oval about the special dynamics of their performance and for whom they will be performing. And, finally, there needs to be enforcement of the "for residents and their guests" rule. Perhaps at the Community Center Town Hall Meeting, Mr. Sullivan can be asked why there is no such enforcement made during the concerts and other events.

RESIDENT SERVICES OFF SITE

Though this hasn't received much protest, if any, I do think that moving Resident Services off site to an undisclosed location (some say CWCapital headquarters in Manhattan) is a bad idea and another downgrade to the stability that this complex once had.

Rebroadcasting MLB television transmissions, whether for profit or not, is illegal without the express written consent of Major League Baseball.

"“Any rebroadcast, retransmission, or account of this game, without the express written consent of Major League Baseball, is prohibited..."

http://consumerist.com/2009/09/03/mlb-wont-give-me-permission-to-describe-game-to-friend/

The article is humorous but underlines the key point that it is not permissible to retransmit an MLB broadcast in any capacity. Just another example of how CW is literally willing to break the law to get new woo-hoos and zombie moms in here with the Oval Events garbage.

Soul Asylum is a real band - not the usual yahoos Lady Maya digs up. I'm looking forward to seeing them but this could be a big problem for the property. They will attract a LOT of people!

Anonymous said...

"They will attract a LOT of people!"

Let's see how well CW/Compass Crock does at vetting the attendees and making sure that they are really residents and guests. Personally, I hope we have rain and squalls that day that washes the "event" out.

On "you can't make this shit up" front:
CW actually did a nice thing by offering free shredding in ST and PCV.Only problem was that the truck was full shortly after it arrived on PCV Road and so many in PCV (including me) schepped out stuff to be recycled, only to be turned away.

Where is Oval Lounge? It says Soul Asylum is playing at Oval Lounge.

Moving resident services off the property is CW's way of shouting out a big FY to all of us since there are no resident services and it's not in their best interest to waste space on that. If anyone's looking for improved quality of life, they're looking to move out, which is exactly what CW wants. Thanks, CW. LOL 1:05PM! Zombie moms!

@ 1:05, how was any of the previous information a lure for families or as you so immaturely put it "zombie moms"?
The article stated that a playground was overrun with sunbathing co-eds (not very family friendly) & that management is allowing a band to come in with no one to check IDs on the oval- not very safe (which is not appealing to families).
It seems you just like throwing the term around- grow up. The families here aren't happy about management either. Instead of slinging nastiness around why don't you try to work with everyone to improve the situation?

Isn't Oval Lounge now called Oval Café?

Anonymous said...

@10:28PM, while I don't disagree with many of your points (esp the safety issue or sunbathing in the Playground), I find your defensiveness over a nickname rather thin-skinned. It's not nasty, it's satirical. Lighten up! Remember, we're all in this together. Often, the new "family contingent" seems to forget that we're ALL just tenants. Until quite recently there was no "us versus them." The "Zombie Moms" name is an attempt to show that by splintering into separate interest groups, you're not doing this community any favors. Wanna call me a "woo hoo?" How about an "oldster?" "Frat brat?" "Student?" These all describe a group, where once there were none. Try NOT concerning yourself with ONLY family interests, concentrating instead on our community. I'd also consider developing a sense of irony (so essential in NYC), or risk spending a lot of your time scolding other adults and licking your wounds which is SO not a good use of time or energy.

A lot of side boob on the playground this weekend.

It's absolutely OUTRAGEOUS that they've made Playground 10 into a commercial rental facility and taken it away from kids for 6 hours of prime weekend playtime. Wasn't good enough for them to do this in the winter, but all year round now too ??

Stuy Town Reporter said...

This is what happens when one let's the first commercial establishment (the greenmarket) enter into Stuy Town. Once that becomes tradition, other commercial ventures follow. Thank you, Dan Garodnick, for your help.

Thanks for nothing Garodnick!

You don't like sunbathing now? And soccer? And farmers markets? What is wrong with you people? You've lost it.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

You're not getting it, are you? No one is against sunbathing, soccer or the greenmarket--given their rightful place and time. Sunbathing shouldn't be happening in a playground meant, primarily, for children. Nor should there be sunbathing around the Oval Fountain, blocking people from walking around it. The Oval Lawn, when it opens up in a week, is meant for sunbathing.

Soccer is fine, but a commercial soccer business inside Stuy Town is not.

The greenmarket is fine, too, but not at a location right at the Oval Lawn, causing a chunk of that lawn to permanently disappear.

John Marsh is now kissing Sean Sullivan's butt on the TA Facebook page. I was at the meeting. John Marsh was not. Sean Sullivan flopped BIG TIME! The best was when Sillivan claimed he thought the town hall meeting was going to primarily focus on future programming for seniors and not the real issues. He must of received a different agenda than the other 20,000+ of us.

Very intelligent.

I think the idea is to encourage Sullivan to hold a town hall meeting in a bigger space and at better hours--and have it specifically set up for tenant concerns, which, it appears, this town hall wasn't.

Anonymous said...

STR, I posted this as a response to the anonymous commenter on the other thread but it really belongs here so I am reposting:

I was also in attendance and, yes, it was heated at times, but Sean Sullivan brought it on himself. The people living in this community have very real and very difficult problems. For example, the woman and her wheelchair-bound husband who were stuck in their lobby for two hours due to the one operational elevator in their building being broken. She fears that if there is ever a fire, she and her husband could be trapped in their apartment. She was frustrated, rightfully so, and on the verge of tears. Sullivan's canned responses did little to assure her family they'd be safe in their building. They still have only one operational elevator and now it's being held hostage by the renovations teams who use it all day long. And if it wasn't for the “young know-it-all” who demanded he answer her questions, she never would have gotten one - all elevators will be operational by the end on May.

The same goes for the woman who, also on the verge of tears, told Sean Sullivan how employees had been in her apartment without her consent. He denied it happened. Someone in the crowd loudly suggested Sullivan read the official PCVST Facebook page because residents frequently complain about this problem, and many, many others there. Mr. Sullivan also tried to dismiss the recent burglaries that coincided with intercom work as rumor and brought Chief McClellan up to denounce them. Only McClellan confirmed 2 of the 3 burglaries.

Perhaps Anonymous 11:29 didn't mind having Mr. Sullivan tap dance around the issues. Perhaps she is one of the lucky ones who had no real problems in PCVST and showed up only for the free coffee. But 90% of the people in the room were having NONE of Mr. Sullivan's evasiveness. The only time he answered ANY question directly was when people got irate with him. So to the “young know-it-all” and nasty old ladies I say thank you!

Anonymous said...

I don't recall reading anywhere the Town Hall meeting was to discuss senior activities. This was only mentioned by Sean Sullivan when he lost control of the room.

So just in case anybody was concerned that the fine art of banality and side-stepping has been lost, Property “Manager” Sean Sullivan held a “Town Hall” to prove that you really CAN get a mid-level Executive position just by memorizing a few key phrases from Media Relations courses at Community College.

Apparently all that really needs to be written on Mr. Sullivan's resume is “I hear you,” “That is a really good question” and “I appreciate your concern.”

Warmly uttering those phrases in a cordial monotone into a microphone seems to be his main forte.

Someone at CompassRock DESPERATELY needs to inform Sean that a Q & A generally requires an A after the Q. Hence Q AND A.

When confronted head-on with legitimate questions regarding security or dates when elevators would be operational, Mr. Sullivan ran around the issues like a turkey on Thanksgiving Eve. He even had the audacity to tell a woman whose apartment was entered without her permission or warning by a STPCV employee that it never happened. As she welled up with tears and explained the incident in detail, he opened his eyes REALLY wide and said “I hear you” and changed the subject.

It was embarrassing to watch. And Useless. And her questions were never answered.

As people with serious issues and adequate vocabulary left in groups, Sean was discussing the merits of adding an additional handrail in the stairwells for people who walk with a cane in their left hands.

Great Sean – next “Town Hall” let's discuss how great it would be to have a tunnel from the laundry rooms directly to the East River for everyone who wants easy access to a submarine.

The only clue was that the Town Hall meeting was listed on the senior events side of a flyer that came with one's rent bill.

A number of issues were brought up last night including:

- Bringing back keys to replace the often broken and unreliable keycards. Sean Sullivan said it'll never happen. His words. He was rather smug about it and shut down the conversation.

- Hallway and stairwell lights immediately going out during Sandy. Sean Sullivan said this was the first time he heard about it.

- A woman stranded with her wheelchair bound husband in the lobby for two hours. The one working elevator was broken. PS wouldn't help them up the stairs to their apartment so she had to call 911 for help. The elevator is still out of order and the renovations team monopolizes it. She asked why the renovations couldn't be put on hold until the other elevator was fixed. No answer from Sean Sullivan.

- Bringing elevators back online. He said there was a back order on elevator parts due to Sandy and said all elevators would be back up and running by June. He only gave this answer after being shouted at for not answering questions.

- Sean Sullivan took a short break to reprimand a tenant for filming him with an iPhone. She shot back MANY tenants couldn't attend because of the meeting was at 5:30 when most people were still at work. Most people agreed the timing of the meeting was designed for a low turn out.

- Employees entering apartments without permission. Something he denies despite numerous reports from credible tenants and sources.

- Robberies. Another thing Sean Sullivan denied until Chief McClellan confirmed 2 robberies did take place, coinciding with intercom installation work. He said PS is changing their policy and will have one PS officer in the apartment - not in the hall texting as one case was pointed out - per technician working.

- Six street lights out in PCV. Sean Sullivan tried to blame Sandy for it but the tenant said they have been out for months previous to Sandy, and are still out. He said he would take her word for it and blew her off.

- M and T doors left open. Security should get some type of notification when doors are open but they don't appear to act on the notifications. Residents point out they rarely get out of their PS jeeps and actually walk.

- Laundry Rooms. Work is going on despite people not physically in the laundry rooms. Parts are being ordered, permits are being acquired, etc.

In my opinion, he did a miserable job. He dismissed most of the tenants and only gave real answers when pressured by people getting agitated with him. Half way through people started leaving. It was obvious he was expecting a small, older crowd who wouldn't challenge him. He wasn't prepared and from the looks of it hasn't had much experience speaking, at all, never mind to a room full of feisty New Yorkers.

Anonymous said...

I sat near the young lady whose apartment had been broken into. Sullivan turned his back on her and ignored her question even though she had raised her hand and he had invited her question. He just stopped short of calling her a liar. He refused to address the fact that shower doors had been removed without the tenants' consent and just said that it was not true. He was totally out of his depth. He was rude at times, totally unprepared and totally evasive. I have never seen such a display of bullshit except when listening to politicians try to fluff their way through tough questions. I noticed that Garodnick made a cameo appearance with his child. Don't bother, Dan. We have your number. Just go away.

I posted this on the Roberts thread, but it really belongs here:

I was at the meeting, and I have rarely seen a worse performance by someone in an important executive position. Sean Sullivan tried a lot of corporate double-speak on us ("That's a good question," "I can assure you..."), but he wasn't even skillful at that, and haven't we all heard this style of deflection enough to know when we're being fobbed off?

Sullivan clearly had a different idea of what the "town hall" was about than the rest of us. He didn't answer any questions (and yes, Sean, those were good questions. You don't have to tell us that--get rid of that annoying rhetorical tic), and he ducked and evaded consistently--even when he didn't have to. Why not explain factually why it's taking so long to fix the basements instead of spewing nonspeak? Don't "assure" us that you're going to look into something even after you've essentially denied it happened.

One of the highlights was when a tenant asked him if he was familiar with CW's ad that don't show floors sufficiently covered. Sullivan hemmed and hawed, and then the tenant showed him the ad on his laptop. Sullivan's response? None. He incompetently thinks that the proper way to deal with noise complaints is to have the tenant call Public Safety ("the protocol"). When someone pointed out that this was a management issue and that apartments should be inspected after new tenants move in, he refused to consider this reasonable and time-tested approach.

Sullivan accused us of venting, but tenant after tenant brought up problems that need to be solved and gave hard facts and details, such as time and place. We didn't come to vent--we came to get answers. And Sean Sullivan showed himself incapable of giving any (as opposed to the straightforward style of Public Safety chief Bill McClellan). Sometimes Sullivan admitted he didn't know certain things were going on--I guess he doesn't read this blog or T&V or check on what tenants report to Management.

Maybe in the Marines Sullivan was used to giving orders and having his troops salute him and say yes sir. Maybe he runs his staff that way. It was hard to miss the nastiness in some of his responses. But we're paying customers and we're not getting what we pay for. And for anyone who doesn't know, it now costs $75 to be let into your apartment when you don't have your keys. When a tenant pleasantly suggested that was "disrespectful," Sullivan basically said, Screw you. That's the fee.

There's not much point being polite with someone like this. His contempt for us was obvious, and he deserves no better from us. He's a tool (in every sense) of CW, and he made it clear that he doesn't have the knowledge, experience, or competence to deal directly with tenants or staff his operation with people who do.

I don't think that Sean Sullivan really knows much about the history of this property and its tenants. He hadn't heard about the flea market and I doubt he is aware that about 10 years ago this was a beautiful property filled with lovely shade trees. The Oval had a cluster of London Planes and there was no path inside the perimeter, the whole oval was much bigger then and there were beautiful shade trees all around the perimeter as well as in the center. He can't be blamed for not know how it used to be, but he really should do a little homework.

During the Meeting, he passionately defended his "team" and said they get up every morning and come to work to make us happy. I don't know which "team" he was talking about, but I doubt it was the maintenance staff, landscapers, etc. If also praised Maya Altrett (who was present) and I suspect he was referring to the "entertainments" team. I think he mistakes QOL with entertainment and "amenities." What he fails to realize is that we don't particularly want the entertainment and amenities. We just want a nice, safe, clean, QUIET property. We can go off the property for entertainment and amenities. This is New York City. We don't need to live in a theme park here -- the whole City is a theme park of sorts! It's not a holiday camp, retirement home, cruise ship or anything like that. It's a residential property and we just want to reside! We can go OUT and get our entertainment. I think Mr. Sullivan suffers from that Flyoverlandia Syndrome that feels that everything from boogie nights to latte joints has to be built into the dwelling place because it's such a long drive to go town! Don't want to leave the mountain to have a little entertainment! A place for small children, such as Oval Kids, I can understand because day care is hard to come by and parents need somewhere safe to dump the kid for a couple of hours. But beyond that, we don't need concerts, movies, coffee shops, circuses, green markets, sports events. This is New York City, not Hootersville. What next? Cow Pie throwing contests?

Another point regarding the meeting, Sean Sullivan just started talking on his portable microphone, he never introduced himself by name or gave some background on himself (where he grew up, his service record, his education/professional background, in short, his resume). About a quarter of the way into the meeting, someone from the audience asked him to introduce himself. His response was that he assumed everyone knew who he was since he is around the property a lot. I kid you not. And this is our state of the art property manager? He couldn’t manage a men’s bathroom. Listen SS (that’s my shortcut for him going forward), as a property manager here, your clients are not the bondholders but the tenants. The only respectable person in management these days is William McClellan, the PS chief, who is old school NYPD and was also at the meeting. The PS night shift commander is also old school NYPD as well. All my contacts with PS officers have been with the night shift crew (I kid them by saying that instead of PS officers, they are RA’s in the “The Dorm Patrol”) and they have all been great at least when I have dealt with them. BTW, Anony 3.02, your post is spot on but the hicks are in control and that’s their so called business model (suburban mall mindset) for this place is Bread and Circuses. SS should read, ASAP “Other People’s Money” and try to learn from the TS debacle. As Lord Voldemort said in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2”:
“They never learn. Such a pity.”

STR, this is anonymous 10.47 AM. I apologize for my men’s room comment, it was an over the top post that violated your blog rules. But you should have seen the disdain and vitriolic manner that Sean Sullivan treated the tenants, most of them seniors, who were at the town hall meeting. It was so obvious, you could cut it with a knife. This is no exaggeration but it is the truth. Maybe Sean should take a couple of rides (imbed himself) with his PS officers during a night tour to see a true picture of what goes on here at night.

@2:21PM, I suspect he's not allowed to stay up much past 9PM on school nights, so probably no-dice on your suggestion of ride-arounds. Also, he's clearly proven that even when confronted with the truth, he has a particular talent for ignoring it when it's not torn, chapter & verse, from CWC's operating manual.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I debated about letting this through, but I'm fine with the rest of the message, of course. Just a reminder that I have no edit function on comments. Either I let through the complete comment or I don't. Perhaps it's because I'm former military myself (never an officer, though) that I'm hesitant about letting such comments through. Or perhaps I just hesitate to be a party to a pile on. It seems obvious that Sullivan was not prepared for the Town Hall meeting he got, so it's a bit unfair to slam him too much. Still, as property manager, he should have been more forthright and, it appears, more knowledgeable about what's going on in the complex and its history. I have no idea what his service in the Marines was, but I do thank him for that, at least.

STR, was he really in the Marines? Where does it say that anywhere in his bio?

STR. I think the question is still open whether Sean Sullivan is a former Marine. Where did this fact come from? See below. Remember the urban myth that Adam Rose was former NYPD? BTW, my father was a WW II combat veteran (Army, France and Germany), my uncle as well (B-17 tail gunner, first daylight bombing of Berlin 1943). My brother served in the Army during the Nam years (stayed stateside) His son in-law, Army, two tours in Afghanistan, now deployed in Kuwait. My brother’s son, Army, just completed a tour in Afghanistan. And none of them copped an attitude, especially against seniors, most of them widows of America’s greatest generation. Again, if you were at the meeting and if you saw and heard what I saw and heard, you would have left being extremely angry at Sean Sullivan’s performance. BTW, Ollie North was a Marine officer so nobody gets an auto pass even if they did serve.

As per this link, I don’t see any mention of any service record, never mind the Marines. No service record at his Linked in profile as well, basically the same history that is in the link below. If he had served, wouldn’t such a positive trait be in his bio, ya think? That he is very handsome and dashing in an Anderson Cooper kind of way is not denied.

Absolutely correct. I was there too and was just aghast at the unprofessionalism and unpreparedness of Sean Sullivan. I almost felt embarrassed for him. Only almost. He didn't answer questions, turned his back on people who were asking him questions, blew people off and really exhibited a total lack of empathy and a total excess of irritability and disdain.

STR - there is no "piling on" happening with Sean Sullivan The service You are providing by publishing tenant comments is VITAL.

It shows an almost unanimous disappointment not only with the management style of the property in general but with the attitude of Sullivan in particular.

Management NEEDS to know this. It is NOT just an odd, stray disgruntled tenant in a bad mood or having a bad day. It is NOT an elderly tenant who just wants attention. It is NOT just a loud-mouthed young know-it-all (albeit STRIKINGLY handsome) who wants to make a point.

It is the COLLECTIVE voice of the people who live here.

The bond holders need to realize that the asset of this property is not in acreage or in the buildings. IT IS IN THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE HERE.

They can plant petunias and slap up marble bathroom tiles until they are blue in the face. Angry tenants leave and are replaced by those that just don't care. Until you have a colony of blasé, bored kids and semi-criminals looking for short-term shelter and the safety of anonymous ennui.

Management NEEDS to know that tenants are unhappy with the services being provided AND PAID FOR.

If we are quiet and demure, if the press outlets that we have edit comments because they don't want to seem rude, if we don't draw a line in the sand...then the status quo will merely be maintained.

Which appears to be Sullivan's goal.

STPCV is a community of living breathing HUMAN individuals. We are not just a paying commodity to be maintained thru inter-office memos and protocol.

Who cares if he was Napoleon in a past-life? What difference does it make how disciplined his gait is?? What does it matter if he was Ian Flemming's inspiration for 007???

He was unable to control a room full of maybe 50 people asking simple, legitimate questions that DIRECTLY pertained to HIS JOB.

I don't care how spiffy he may have looked in a uniform.

Our Military is trained to address situations, assess them and get the job done.

Sullivan displayed none of those abilities.

If he were currently in ANY branch of the military - his performance at this event would warrant a court martial.

Anonymous said...

Anon at 12:03PM
Management and the bondholders could care less about current tenants. Their sole objective is to maximize their return ASAP by selling STPCV at a profit. The way they are doing that is my constantly turning over apartments to new tenants (especially students who they know won't stay here for more than a couple of years) because each time they empty an apartment they can increase the rent through more "improvements" and the vacancy increase. By increasing rents they increase the value of STPCV to themselves. Current tenants are not a concern of theirs, in fact , they would prefer if we all just got up and left.
As to what we can do about this -we have some options but they must be exercised collectively and noone has stepped to the plate to lead a collective response.

@9:33AM. Adam Rose was unfairly painted and tarnished by the brush of CWC, who paid for him to do their bidding and who took the fall for them. He was always a gentleman who attempted to do the right thing by this tenancy. He seemed to actually take pride in his work though had his hands consistently tied by CWC. As for Renee Riley, she routinely lied and ultimately proved to be no more than a shill for CWC; so eager to garner their praise that she followed their "party-line" blindly (and foolishly). Adam subsequently "relieved her" of her position at Rose Associates (no, she wasn't merely removed from operations at STPCV) once it became clear where her ultimate loyalties lay (Hint: NOT with Rose Associates NOR the tenancy) & her promises proved hollow. She spoke one set of lies to the tenants & another set to Adam (her boss). Finally, a frustrated tenant complained to Adam (personally), about some of these inconsistencies. The big problem with always telling lies is keeping them straight. So, Renee got caught when Adam surprised her by showing up (where she never expected him to). I guess the truth really CAN set you free.

Having borne personal witness to her campaigns of "misinformation" on several occasions, I'd love to see that record straightened out. Adam Rose (perhaps naively) truly thought he'd be championed by us, as he took pains & pride in being fair & honorable. We did ourselves no favors by making him the resident boogeyman. All along CWC was happy to be yanking his chain while limiting his purse-strings. They always took credit when politically advantageous and happily watched as the blame fell on Adam. They got more for their 30% than they could have possibly dreamed. Currently, seeing them do nothing (while pissing away their $625,000 monthly mgmt fee) sickens me, especially when you consider how much more Rose did with so much less (that same 30%). Sadly, also unlike Adam Rose, CWC hasn't even got the backbone to READ this site much less the chops to comment on it (which Adam did repeatedly). Pity. They could gain such insight, merely by reading here. It needn't ever descend into such ugliness as actual "listening" at recent "public forums" proved to be for them. There'd be no more surprises regarding specific conditions & responses; no more public displays of general disdain; no excuse for communication lapses; and no more substituting of bread & circuses for simple straight answers.

While admitting that the Town Hall meeting was "heated," the newest issue of Town & Village paints a more positive picture of Sean Sullivan at that meeting, making him sound even reasonable. Regarding the key cards and a resident asking for a return of regular keys, Sullivan is quoted: "You many not like some of my responses but I'm going to try to be straight with you tonight. The short answer is no. It's a system that we put in place and it works. (Sandy) was an extraordinary moment in time and we took extraordinary measures."

I sense a few letters to the editor are being written.

Hurricane Sandy was a big boon to CWC and Compass Crock because it provided them with an excuse to leave tenants in misery and danger whilst blaming the storm. A lot of the problems existed pre-Sandy (e.g., lights out in PCV) and SS and CW are wearing out the Sandy excuse at this point. I will be so glad when the bowl is flushed and we are rid of CWC, Compass Crock and the stupid stooge, Sullivan. I don't know who will be our next overlord, but they'd better know that we tenants are sick of being used and abused and misled and we are not the idiots they take us for. We really need an organized and concerted effort to rid ourselves of these parasites. How? I don't know. Brains much better than mine can work on that. I will be a willing foot soldier. I just know that we are not being well served by these parasites and we have to get rid of them and send a strong message to the next bunch of vultures who come to pick our bones. Ever heard the expression "the worm turned?" Go the Hell, Sean Sullivan and all of your minions who are feeding off us.

STR: The T&V article is a very mild account of what happened and somehow makes Sullivan sound reasonable. The reality was very different--as you can tell from the many comments on a couple of threads here.

Maybe Sabina is "on the take".

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Nah.... but the paper isn't known for being hard-edged.

Maria Rocha-Buschel at T&V also covered a story about bed bugs involving a friend of mine. She said the article was so badly written she wondered if Maria Rocha-Buschel attended the same meeting.

Something else Sean didn't say at the meeting: asbestos abatement has begun in the damaged basements. A notice went up in my building yesterday. I'm starting to wonder if September is a remotely realistic date for complete restoration.

As mild a paper as it is, ONLY Sabina can cover an event here and have it remotely resemble what actually occurs. Maria's BEDBUG article (ref'd by 10:45AM) was, in fact, SO badly written (and seemed just downright lazy) that one week later the T&V ran a tenant's "correction" letter in full. Finally, a piece that (albeit briefly) reflected the actual meeting. Shouldn't be up to the readership to accurately report on or cover a story!

This is Adam Rose. I never once EVER told ANYBODY that I was NYPD. I am a former police officer, having worked for 3 agencies in sworn positions while I was in college. Just want to set the record straight.

Why is Adam reading this site? He has nothing to do with Stuy Town?

Some of you people are totally outrageous. Last time I checked sunbathing is legal. Also, so is being completely topless if they wanted to. That is the LAW here in our city. Calling girls "entitled" for wanting to be free to enjoy the outdoors? How entitled is it to think you can lay down edicts on an entire population like your the fucking Queen or something? Get over yourself Susan Steinberg and take your backwards ass 19th century Victorian bullshit out of my city. (And I don't even live in Stuy Town, you crazy, crazy lady.)

Hi Adam!!!!!!

@10:47AM, so Adam Rose is not permitted to read a blog in which he actively participated in for years? Perhaps you don't think he has anything to learn about the want, needs, or complaints of tenants since he no longer manages any properties? Oh wait...YES, he still does! Not this one? No, but after all the years he put into our little hamlet, he can read about whatever he damn well pleases & doesn't need your permission to do so. Plus, he's more than justified in correcting misinformation about his own CV, especially when it's mis-stated, as it was by a commenter on this blog.

Actually, Rose Associates is still involved in Stuy Town via the rental of store space.

You don't live in Stuy Town so you don't know the rules here. Yes, sunbathing is legal, but management has a right to restrict the areas where such sunbathing takes place. A children's playground is NOT the place for sunbathers.

Incidentally, I part with Susan Steinberg on her view of a two-piece bathing suit. And I'd love to see our "bikini beauties" get rid of their tops, per your legal comment. I do have a camera and think of the attention this blog would get then!

@10:54AM, coreyalevenson, your remarks shows how very little you know about anything. The main complaint (Susan's Victorian-ish comment aside) is that there are 12 lawn areas more than available right now for sunbathing (PLUS the Oval, once it re-opens), topless, bathing-suited, or mummy-bandaged. There is only one, fully astro-turfed, completely obstruction-free, enclosed, central playground for the expressed use of children for active sports in our community (not that you'd know that since you don't live here!). This isn't about side boob or bikinis, at all, but about the law & what is fair. You cannot remove a playground from public use without replacing same. Your argument, thus, is hollow & you come off as both rude & utterly ignorant of the subject and of our community. Now, go away & mind your own business. Despite what your parents may have told you your entire life, your opinion is not neither appropriate not welcome everywhere.

Ooops! Shoulda been:"Despite what your parents may have told you your entire life, your opinion is neither appropriate nor welcome everywhere." ;)

Hey Coreyalvenson: It's a CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND, you dumb ass! Get it? A CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND!!! Those girls (and guys) don't have any business sunbathing in a CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND even if they are wearing fucking burkas! You get out New York you idiot waste of space! you're not grown up enough to live here if you think it's ok to take your clothes off in a CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND.

Adam Rose at least believed in the viability of the property and has been the ONLY one to reach out and work with tenants.

These conversations would not be happening if He were still here.

I tan in the elevator! I pay rent here too! OMG flip flop flip flop.

I tan in the Mac Gray dryers. When they are working that is.

I wish I could tan in the Mac Gray dryers too, but we haven't had access to them since Sandy. Too bad the NY Post isn't interested in that story.

@7:33PM @5.28PM I appreciate the humor but the credit for the equipment, I've heard it said, belongs with the TS regime. The landlord owns the equipment, MacGray maintains it.
