Hot on the heals of the TA informing us that Blackstone is constructing new apartment configurations in Peter Cooper and that the noise level in various parts of the complex has risen, I have decided to name all the current projects and soon to be projects that are going to be inside or near this community. I will be adding as warranted. Above you see, the view pictured above is from inside Gracefully. No doubt you have seen this scaffolding, the putting up of which is noisy, all over the complex, to include scaffolding atop Oval Stuy, right by Oval "Office," along 20 Street, etc. I know the mandated reason, but does this work have to be done in the summer months and at the hottest, most humid time? Expect an MCI, by the way. Blackstone, therefore, is not crying too much.
Aside from this, there is the work being done on condos along 14th Street. Then there is the normal noise intrusion of barking dogs, the noise which is sharper and louder than children at play. Certain residents even encourage their dogs to bark/play with other dogs, oblivious that their dogs may be disruptive, but just "cute." There is also the noise one hears from inconsiderate neighbors. For some residents, this noise is a nightmare.
There is the continual noise of refurbished apartments. Any time you see the "old" AC unit, know that when the tenant moves out, that window unit will be replaced by one positioned below the window. More noise. A lot of it, to include the "normal'" noise of refurbishing an apartment.
The construction on Playground 7, which when finished will have an outdoor gym, continues. Obviously, this construction is noisy.
There is the noise and smell coming from diesel cleaners who go around the property, usually the Oval, and clean the walkways, which are used by STPCV vehicles, too. Though we have been promised the old-fashioned rakes, know that air leaf-blowers continue. They can be very noisy, particularly in the early morning hours. And new, but very loud lawnmowers! This after a promise by Rick (yeah, I know) to have the property use those quiet old-fashioned lawnmowers.
Speaking of which, though they are not noisy, the club cars running around the complex seem to be increasing. Apparently they can go either way, so watch out. I'm sure if these cars could fly, they would.
I have lived here from about three decades and have never seen it this bad.....

Update 6/22: Adding "music events" at the Oval, to include other "events," like free movies. But this music today was particularly loud and abrasive. Way to go, Rick and Blackstone. About 100 people, if that, listened to this music.

It is ironic. We moved here from 27th street. Not a terribly noisy street but had the dream of no street at all and peace and foliage outside. NOT NOT NOT. Multitude of noise 24/7. Either from construction, more construction, boys next door, Con Ed, tree trimming, non stop, non stop. Breaking the lease or subletting. I'll take 26th or even lexington ave now.

The doc asked me where I live and when I told her Stuyvesant Town Everton in the OR looked at other and gasped! They all said they had heard such terrible things about it from people who live there. This is a housing project that is far worse than the NYCHA projects. Anybody has a problem with that, I don't care. I remember when this was nothing like a housing project, but now there is no denying it. NYCHA/Blackstone = same thing, but different way of collecting the rent.
6:57 PM here. I meant to write anesthesiologist, but was "wuzzy" after the procedure. One thing I remember the doctor saying is that it can't be easy getting necessary rest in ST with all the construction (indoors and outdoors) and that is very detrimental to health. She seemed to be very aware of ST and what's going on and was not in any way supportive of the way tenants are being treated. She specializes in cancer illnesses and said that it is probably the cause of a lot of illnesses related and not related to cancer to be living with the stress of everlasting noise. From what I heard from the whole medical staff attending my treatment, they have heard of ST and are appalled. They were all NYU students at one time and lived in dorms. Real dorms. What these medical professionals remarked about the property just about encompasses the whole negative reaction of people who post on Yelp. It is an unhealthy and stressful place to live and they are well aware of its bad management and poor quality of life.
I didn't raise the subject of where I live. They asked me and that's when I heard the remarks and I think they know what they are talking about. We are being subjected to a stressful and toxic life in Stuy Town and it is the fault of greedy and uncaring management. Next time I hear praise for Rick, I might vomit. You don't even need chemotherapy to want to upchuck here.

My apartment faces 20th Street Loop and the playground with the seasonal ice rink and noise has one helluva huge impact on quality of life 7 days a week.

The reason I posted yesterday (when I was still a bit fuzzy in the head) was because I wanted to relate the reaction I got from the staff at NYU who asked me where I live and I told them! They had were very aware of Stuyvesant Town (as most people are), but it was their comments about how they had heard it had become a student dorm and had a lot of problems. They were horrified at the thought of people who are not students having to live in the same place as students, especially the undergrads. They were all students themselves at one time and I was laughing through my tears as they said how they would hate to live with themselves at that stage of life! When I mentioned the fact that the students aren't required to have carpets, a nurse said "well you have to listen to their 7" heels!" and a doctor said "they don't have carpets because it's easier to clean up the spilled beer and vomit that way."
This wasn't the first time I'd heard such remarks and reaction from people when I tell them I live in Stuyvesant Town. My eye doctor said to me "I heard that place has really gone downhill, is it true?" Other people (nothing to do with the NYU/medical world) have made similar remarks at various times. The place really has a very bad reputation with the non-student community and I think it is a crying shame. The bad reputation is well deserved, but it is not the regular tenants who have earned it this rep. It is Management and the shady politicians who are in their pockets, who have done this to us. The students are just behaving the way students. They should not be here!
We are not forced to live with this demo. We can move!!. And if I had cancer you'd better believe I'd do everything and anything to get myself away from such a maddeningly noisy environment.

Kushner is a local matter. He bought over a hundred apartment buildings, many in SoHo, West Village, East village and Lower East Side. The value of his investment depends on the City Council and Mayor kicking us out, replacing with the capped rent they negotiated, building the luxury hotel condo towers in StuyTown Peter Cooper Village.

Amazing, isn't it? On my floor, it is relatively quiet, though. The people next to me are young and pay much more, but they are quiet. A party perhaps once a month which ends before midnight. BUT I've seen numerous students living in my building.
Aren't there a few people at the TA Facebook site who just love Rick and Dan, and have no complaints?
I too love the comments on FB about no students on people's floors. With that being said, and I'm using my PCV building as my basis, somewhere between 40-50% are affected by students. My floor has two sets of students, but they are extremely quiet and respectful. I know this is not the case with anywhere between 5 and 7 floors in the building, where the partying never seems to end.
I don't doubt that some of those people have great floors, and I am one of them, but don't play dumb to the fact that this is a dorm. They will continue to cater to the ever growing NYU population while they patiently wait for the RS tenants to go. Once the RS number is low enough they will offer buyouts and then do what they planned all along- demolish and rebuild.
About tonight's concert: thank you, thank you, thank you for your comment, sir. I had an horrific time on the phone with "management" about it and much as Public Safety wanted to help, their hands were tied.
I was told I was ONE RESIDENT who had some difficulty with it, but other residents "wanted it." It was loud, obnoxious. It disrupted peace, quiet, dinner, my family, me, my nervous system, my immune system.

There is a tenant in our building who loves the concerts because she says she has a short walk to hear them. Otherwise the noise does not reach our building. She is a very selfish neighbor who cares only about herself.
May I remind people that this is what the TA should be doing. Calling Management and telling them that the concert was too loud. Meanwhile the TA (Peter Stuyvesant) is showing us a nice photo! At least Adam Rose (the other Adam Rose) was at an Oval concert to check the noise level.
I think that some of the posters on the TA fb are paid by Management (in some form of incentives, if not cash) to post their remarks about how wonderful it is here and that they don't know what anybody is complaining about. I wouldn't be surprised if the principals of the TA are likewise receiving some sort of "incentives" to be so pro-management. I do not, for one moment, think that there is an iota of sincerity in the TA's "strong letter" to Management about the plan to reduce the size of the apartments and increase the number of occupants. It is going to take a total tragedy before these despicable bloodsuckers are brought to justice. God help us all when that happens.
STR, the photo was taken on the WEST side of First Avenue and had nothing to do with Stuyvesant Town. Peter Stuyvesant is so fast to slam down "off-topic" posts, but will post something so totally irrelevant as a distraction. That is something you do when dealing with children. The guy on FB posting about never seeing students in his building over 10 years is either blind or ignorant. I live in his building, and there are 3 sets of students living on my floor. They all party every weekend and there are other students on other floors in the building (Main!) that come up to my floor to party.
Just because he has a nice floor, and I know it's a quiet floor because my kids play with another family's kids on his floor, does not hide the fact that there are plenty of students IN HIS BUILDING!!
I am not sure if those pro-management posters are paid in any way, but I do believe that they have connections to the TA or management and are encouraged to support Blackstone and attack posters that criticize management. Some of them even seem to have ins with management departments and spend a lot of time in the offices.
Unless they are above you or adjacent (not as bad) the students noise is almost non-existent. However above the regular re-arranging of the furniture for the new bedroom / den will drive you nuts. The volume of last nights concert was dis-concerting, perhaps only because the weeks prior was a cello/classical. I can't believe the lowest level hack of management would respond "we can do whatever we want"
Rigged is a must read article. When the local small businesses leave we have to deal with companies who have the moral compass of WalMart. Think about it when you do business with these companies instead of your local food stores and shops.

In our case, it was not the 20 year olds. We had to move due to small kids living above us. First we asked for carpets, we never knew if they the parents put them in. Management said they did. Those kids ran around jumped hollered day and night and while i love kids , it was a living hell with the shoddy floors and zero insulation. Yes we moved. the problem is on management here, Imho. Either they fix it or they refuse. people will move in, move out and make noise . a building should be able to a degree to handle it for the most part. the buildings there are just bad, really poorly insulated and i tell you this as I am in the construction business. It is on the owner of the building to address.
Can't believe that Hayduk put out an e-mail that there is a waitlist for those reconfigured apartments. Who is he kidding. It probably includes NYU students and groups of unrelated people living together. I would like him to put out the rent prices and the demo on the waiting list, but we will never see that.

some students can be incredibly loud, while some are quiet and reasonably good neighbors--the main issue with NYU is OUTSIDE, particularly in stuy town near Ave A, the drunken shouting, the crying late at night (why don't you love me, why am I not good enough--sounds like a Dawson's Creek audition outside the window), the pot drifting into the windows every single night. INSIDE, the families who do not give a shit about anyone else's right to a reasonably quiet apartment are a bigger problem than students-- JMO, that's the breakdown.

As to the bikinis, what I've seen at the Oval is young women in bikinis, the photo of which would get me banned. LOL. Personally, I think young women in bikinis is fine, as long as they are not in the playgrounds, taking up space.

De Blasio's nonprofit slush fund was shut down. Cuomo's nonprofit slush fund (Speyer contributed $1 Million) was shut down. Disenfranchised PCVST residents lacking a shared P.R. Lobbyist, lacking a nonprofit slush fund and most of all, lacking honest representation, LOST EVERYTING.

I could definitely believe that Hayduk and Blackstone may be covering up crime. They are certainly covering up their rental policies.
When the lawnmower starts right after 8am, and outside the back entrance, and very loud (hey, Rick, what happened to those old fashioned quiet lawnmowers that were promised?), I look upon it as harassment.
BTW, I have the most disgusting photo that I've ever taken of PCVST. I was testing out the zoom lens and it worked perfectly. But the photo is disgusting. Believe me. You would not want to eat for a while or you'd throw up. And, yes, the photo is of the property. And a lot of flies. That is all I will say.
7/2 - Today - 9:30 Am - apt. refurbishing enters the apt. below with all the noise of a bunch of elephants opening and closing windows and closet doors. 9:30 Am!!! on a Sunday!!.
Got to get the apt. ready for the new tenants QUICKLY.

I would very much appreciate information about wet wall and mold in Stuyvesant Town.
I live in 2 Stuyvesant Oval, have had wet wall for over 17 months now with no remediation. A hallway beam that has been chopped out; a closet whose clothes and equipment had to be thrown out (Rick advised me Stuyvesant Town wasn't responsible; "that's what renter's insurance is for") 17 months ago. NO HALLWAY CLOSET.
Much of one of the walls in the closet has been chopped out, more than once, for weeks, and still it smells to high heaven (again: 17 MONTHS). A plumber who worked on this, claiming a toilet installed during (yet another) so-called renovation above us has been leaking WASTE into the wall for all of this time is responsible.
And yet the "repair" this time has not worked, either.
My husband has been suffering increasing symptoms consistent with mold infestation.
Please share with me your experiences. I need some help.

Please do something about the guy with his bicycle (well known in ST) who sits with his feet sprawled all over the chess tables adjacent to the Cafe like he was lounging in his living room.
People eat on these tables and Security knows his name. Called Security yesterday about this and was told "I'll have to speak to my Supervisor.
Wait- dog owners will let their dogs sit on the tables. Parents will change the babies on the tables.
Please put up a sign stating "these tables are for food consumption. Keep your feet, dogs and babies behinds off these tables."

That's what a good lawyer is for. Get documentation from your MD about your husband's condition. Bloodwork, respiratory, etc. Mold related conditions are very serious and you shouldn't have to live with it, esp. for 17 mos.
Get all the documentation re: the wet wall "repair", date the smell started date the "repair" started, what's going on to date.
Get someone in from an environmental place to document the mold.
And if medically confirmed and properly documented you probably have a good case.
BTW: One apt. in our bldg. had a wet wall case in their bathroom that Plumbing stated was coming from 4 floors above them, skipping 3 floors inbetween.

I see this slob all the time (though he doesn't look like a slob). Someone even had harsh words to him. He didn't care. Yeah, a sign and some ENFORCEMENT would be good thing.
The tenants association is pretty weak. The members care only about what they can benefit from personally. Add that they have no knowledgeable person on the Tenants Association. They are afraid of people who know something or anything. This mentality places everyone at risk. This landlord is not a landlord who keeps his word. That is made clear from the promises they made to keep the apartments affordable in order to get loans in the billions of dollars and tax exemption of close to one hundred million dollars. I think the landlord is behaving in a very fraudulent manner. They are increasing rents to such an extent that they are driving tenants out of the property and everyone is afraid. There is no Amy Roberts here -- Amy Roberts and 7 others had the guts to go to an attorney and fight back. The Appellate Court agreed that what the landlord wad doing was wrong and said that the rents had to be affordable. But this landlord has violated those promises the landlord made empty promises they had no intention of keeping.
Do I have your approval to forward these to an attorney who handles the problems we are suffering?
The landlord is doing everything to destabilize the apartments and the entire complex. My building had five apartments under renovation the last few months alone. They are renting the 2 beds at $5,200.month that does not sound like an affordable rent to me. What are we going to do?? We need to band together and fight.
I suggested we find a way to buy the smallest mortgage Blackstone has -- to give us a voice at the table ~~ i know if we stick together and fight we can all own our apartment or at least keep the property affordable ~~ from where I'm standing Blackstone has violated their mortgage agreement and basically lied to the Governor the Mayor and all the politicians that stood with them last summer shouting that the apartments would remain affordable.
Blackstone is using taxpayer money to own the property while they are gouging those same taxpayers who live on the property. Are we going to allow that? do we have the guts to stand up to them? Are we Amy Roberts who stood up to Titian?

Sure.
Please pay attention. Please!! before in about 24 months ~~ the 2020 J-51 expires. Of course it is quite possible the landlord will get the extension. Maybe you are thinking I won't be around then so I don't need to worry. the entire purpose of fighting is for the right for you to be able to remain a resident of the complex. Where are you going to go? aren't you tired of packing up moving to a new place changing your address and letting your creditors know. Blackstone made an agreement to keep the apartments affordable in EXCHANGE for billions of dollars in government subsidy and loans and tax forgiveness. But so far Blackstone has proven that as a landlord it cannot be trusted. There is no good faith and there is no good character to keep the promises made. The promises have so far been broker. Have you been getting emails about the continued violations by the landlord. We must stand together as a unit. We must be united or fail.
The rents are not at all affordable ~~ when a landlord is advertising a renovated apartment at $3200 per month and then sends you a lease renewal for $5,005 per month for an apartment that is not renovated and then tells you that is what the lease amount is you know you are not dealing with people with integrity.
We have to begin looking out for ourselves. We need to get the tenants association on board and get them to understand we need a seat at the table. There are more than 11,200 apartments in this complex and a lot of families will be affected. Blackstone did not purchase this property in good faith. Blackstone purchased the property because they want to make money. I have no problem with anyone wanting to make money but at least be honest about it and show integrity instead of making promises that no one has intention of keeping. Breaking the promises is fraud!!! the loans were given based on promises that the apartments would remain affordable. So far they are not and the turn over makes the complex less secure because we do not know our neighbors longterm ~~ here today gone tomorrow. I do not believe when the loans were given to Blackstone it was with the understanding that Blackstone would harass tenants.
Blackstone is a wall street raider -- they raided Stuy Town and probably have a few of our neighbors in their back pocket. So beware. Those of us who want to keep this property as what it was built for had better come together and fight back. Before we know it Blackstone will pull the rug out from under us.
