Ah, the Good Old Days....
Open to debate whether days were good in general, but I took this photo near the Oval before it was taken down. Taken down, too, was a plaque which spoke of the affordability of this complex. The politicians promise that the plaque will be returned, but how long have you heard that promise? Hey, why not create a new one and mention affordability now?

You missed a lot! NO shit and piss (human and dog) in the stairwells; NO condoms and tampons showing up in the laundry machines, as well as in the stairwells and on the grounds. I have seen SO MANY of these things on the grounds that I am convinced that some of these filthy hoes and johns throw them out of the window.
NO half-assed manager who does nothing because it is his job to do nothing. NO untrained "Public Safety" officers reading their phones and talking on their phones instead of patrolling or watching the screens they are actually supposed to be watching.
NO big white box trucks showing up every morning for the porters to hurl the recycling in while at the same time yelling at each other over the sound of glass being smashed. NO more dirty mattresses parked on the grounds and in the lobbies and recycling areas. NO mountains of cheap, tacky "furniture" being dumped every month in the recycling area, lobby and on the grounds. NO filthy padding being left up in one elevator for months on end and NO sound of walls being torn out and other major constructions jobs going on in apartments that are being converted to dorms, platinums, brothels, whatever.
If I've missed anything, maybe some other tenant who remembers when this place was livable can help out.
I got one. No Gumby in Management's office.

Did I inform readers of this? In my frivolous mood (which I need to keep my sanity), I was going to do a sister blog titled "Playground Bikini." It was going to feature, legally, the women who sun-bathe themselves at the Oval. But I figured such a site would be drawing new tenants in, and Management would use it as a sly promotional vehicle. Why should Public Safety have all the fun and a few pervs in this complex?
No more phony amenities such as lousy loud concerts and no more inane surveys and signs geared to show management’s benevolence.
No more hotels
STR, the Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny girls can often be found on the little triangles of grass (usually sporting a lone tree) with chicken wire fencing, indicating that no one is welcome to go on that grass. You will often see these narcissistic females (sometimes males) spreading themselves and their deckchairs and coolers, etc. on these little patches of green. The spot in front of 455 is a favorite one. Calling PS results in no action whatsoever, but no surprise there.
No more Shelly Silver. No more Eric Schneiderman.

Just a few moments ago, on my way to Stuyvesant Town. Saw a big dog with no official lanyard. The guy and his dog passed by two PS officers, one on a bicycle. Not a word was said. No warning, no escorting the violator out.
Either Management is completely deluded or they are bullshitting.
Pick one of the two.

As a general rule: people's greed for money and all things material is bad enough. It is, however, not the worst motive for behaviors such as Blackstone's, most politicians, "businessmen/women," "bankers," "lawyers," "real estate developers"/destroyers.
The lust for POWER OVER THE LIVES, HEALTH, BEHAVIORS, FREEDOM and more of other people and life forms is what drives most of this predators.

Well said. Clearly it goes beyond the lust for money. There is something pathological in the mentality of many of the "Captains of Industry" as well as the politicians they own. From the WH to Albany to Blackstone there is something like a cancer of the soul in these people. They are truly evil.

It Felt Like a Bait and Switch

Our family went to NYC. This was our first negative experience with VRBO; it was also the first time we used an owner operated listing. Per the management company, we payed half our fee using Paypal to reserve the apt in June. When we didn’t hear anything from them, we filed a claim with Paypal but canceled it when the company confirmed the reservation. As it got closer, we still had no address or check-in instructions. I called the phone number listed with VRBO--not in service.
I Googled The Welcome Group--absolutely no info! This made us very nervous. Two days before our trip, the company responded and we believed the situation was resolved. THE DAY BEFORE, the company told us the apartment we reserved was unavailable due to mold, but they had a better apartment at the same complex for the same cost. Unfortunately, it would not be available until one day AFTER our arrival date. I was frantic; we were hours away from beginning our vacation and had no time to find other lodging.
I requested pictures of the apartment and saw it was much older and definitely not newly remodeled. We contacted VRBO for help, but they had few options as we made an agreement with an owner operated listing and our arrival was only 24 hours away. At this point, we feared that this was a fictitious listing and we would find ourselves in NYC without a place to stay and out money. We contacted Paypal but were told we couldn't open another claim. We contacted our credit card company and were assured that if the listing was a sham, they would resolve the issue. We went to NYC and hoped that we would have a place to stay. We were met at the apartment and paid our final amount in cash (the only method they would allow).
The company deducted one day’s amount from our bill plus the car service.
The apartment was old, dark, and shabby. Floors were yucky; I cut my toe on a loose kitchen tile.
The faucets were terrible in the kitchen and shower. There was an odor due to moldy food in a kitchen cupboard. When we complained about the inconvenience and worry, the company said we were just lucky they did not cancel our reservation altogether.
Positives: good water pressure, good hot water, great location, 2 blocks from trains/buses, playgrounds, and a grocery store. Were we safe and sheltered? Yes. Would we have rented this property? No! Moral of the story: Beware owner operated listings! I agree with a previous reviewer--SHADY!

We are a family of five (two adults + three boys ages 5, 7 & 18 mos.), and we stayed at the apartment from June 27-July 2 while visiting family in the East Village. We enjoyed our stay from start to finish. The apartment was spacious, clean, and quiet. Check-in and check-out could not have been easier. We arrived very late at night, and the caretaker was so great--friendly & informative, and made us feel right at home. We had asked for the port-a-crib, and it was set up when we got there, complete with the cute mobile on top!
From then on, we basically had everything we needed within walking distance. The grocery store was so close; food and coffee at East Village Coffee, which is about a block away, was good and convenient; cabs were readily available on 14th Street or on 1st Ave, so we could get anywhere we wanted in the city. (The Met, Battery Park/Esplanade, South Street Seaport, and Williamsburg/Bklyn were highlights.)
The parks in Stuy town were wonderful, too. We went to both the playground with water features and the larger park nearer to the building. The apartment is also within walking distance of Tompkins Square Park, which is fabulous and has a pool. We stayed during a heat wave, so it was great to have a nice, cool apartment to come back to for resting with the kids mid-day when we needed to.
I would definitely stay here again. I've been to New York a dozen times (three or four w/ kids), and this was probably my best visit. We had our own space (and a big one, at that!) from which to come and go as we pleased, our own fridge with our own food, AND our kids slept well in the comfy, quiet rooms, which meant they and we weren't cranky. Yay!

Roy and "Ang" Angeilique operate the STUYTOWN hotel for years according to the tons of reviews and it is sometimes listed as one of Gene's hotels.
At the same time as the hotel reviews are advertised on the internet, the STUYTOWN Tenant Association brags in the New York Times about how great they are at being sleuths scouring for hotels and even using FACEBOOK to catch them!
How about it TA Board Margaret Salacan, John Marsh and Susan Steinberg let us see all of those hotel tracking reports correlated with the awesomely burdensome costs paid to shell companies for bed bugs reports, and while you are at it include that Facebook sleuthing comments and communications you have with tenants Facebook accounts.
Let's see all of those Facebook communications on hotel sleuthing that online presence expert John Marsh with super sleuth Salacan and under-oath testifying Steinberg spent years creating and tons of money on PR firms like Berlin Rosen getting themselves press on airbnb in STUYTOWN!

So Danny Boy Garodnick has a new role as CEO of the Riverside Park Conservancy! I’m surprised he didn’t take a role as CEO of REBNY. Maybe he’s taking this role so he can sell Riverside Park to REBNY??
Also, notice how Peter Stuyvesant corrected themself about the Verizon store and contacting Rick? Obviously Peter is reading this blog, since someone called them out on here for telling a tenant to contact Rick for an issue with a store not on property.
