Goodbye Associated

There's been a lot of talk about this supermarket closing. Some of the comments have been pro and some negative. I shop daily there, mostly for milk, sometimes for the deli department. And I always check to see what's on sale, as some of the sale prices are indeed beckoning. Soon, though, no more. The store is becoming empty of items, though many perishables are still to be had. Signs say that the other Associated store at 8th Street and Ave C will have flyers, etc., but that's too far to walk for most. The Management at Stuy Town promised another similar store will take its place, but I'm not holding my breath.

Anyway, one less option for me and for many others. Goodbye.

I do not feel sorry for them They are the ones who support Hayduk and encourage him to present these events.

Anonymous said...

That Vasquez reminds me of a court jester, a fool. Agree with you there. Not sorry for these people though. They are the first to argue for all this crap and if they didn’t attend maybe we wouldn’t have them. No sympathy there. Hayduk also has a group of them, the moms, to give input on his cheap rube entertainment. I am sorry for we oval residents who have to put up with it.

Anonymous said...

You are right STR, these building leaders do nothing valuable and support an evil, fraudulent organization.

Anonymous said...

The engineer I had was quite honest and sympathetic. I have been lucky this month, getting more heat. Never know how long it will last.

Anonymous said...

"And again. There should be a yearly accounting of where the TA money goes and how many current dues-paying members there are. Why is that not forthcoming? Does one have to go to court to get this information? Susan? Our building leader? Anyone that is part of the TA?"

YES!!! What are they hiding? They have fewer than 100 dues-paying members, the do nothing for us, and get pay-offs from Keith Powers, and others in the political arena. Just what the hell do they do with all that money? They certainly haven't won any concessions on MCIs (some of which we never see the benefit of) and they only complained about the removal of the names and directories because it inconvenienced Steinberg. If they have nothing to hide they should publish an accounting of what money they take in and what they pay out. From whom and To whom.

Nobody in the TA "advocate[s] FOR tenants..." Nobody. And there were problems in "the good old days of MetLife," too. Just not as many. Remember: It was Met who installed the heat sensors and thousands of faulty windows.

Anonymous said...

Left at the door? One hopes!

Doing it for over 5 years and not one issues to date outside of a bottle of olives broke. I got a credit for the entire order, even though all of it was still edible. All I had to do was remove stuff from the wet boxes. Oh and I had to drink my martini with onions for a few days. I survived.

I would assume they have to file some sort of tax records or a 10k or something. Generally, one can look up a non-profits records.

Those two cheerleaders still contending the art doesn’t feel like a dorm . One I think lives in PC which has less students than ST. She cites her floor with a lot of families as typical. Well missy it is not typical. I find those two totally repulsive.

Anonymous said...

Those two witches keep agreeing with each other. I am so sick up their denial of what goes on her. I think at least one lives in PC.

Just received my email calendar of December events. So exciting. Wow a new Christmas Eve event, jazz and refreshments. They just don’t stop. I am so sick of this crap promoting this dump.

Anonymous said...

Oh I misrepresented the event. It is jazz and Shake Shack, not refreshments. Whoopdy Doo , a good truck.

Anonymous said...

Building leaders? I thought that was an extinct species. I knew our long time building leader because I used to help her out. She gave up the post a number of years ago due to her age.I gave up too because I think the current TA Board is beyond redemption. I have not seen a building leader in my building since the former one retired. Maybe he/she is hiding in an undisclosed bunker with the TA Board.

Anonymous said...

Those two old harridans on the TA fb site never give up! They are unbelievably oppositional to any kind of criticism about this dump. So glad I never have to deal with either of them personally. Ugh!

Anonymous said...

The half-wits have the nerve to send out another e-blast with all the shit events coming up, but they fail to offer an apology or explanation to the people who showed up for the S'mores and snores whatever it was. Same goes for the salsa and chips thing.

Was Rick let go from his former job? I can't imagine him being competent enough to organize a booze-up in a liquor store. Having said that, I wish he would at least try to keep the property safe and clean. Your video has gone world-wide, STR.

Anonymous said...

Agree! I firmly believe that if they are receiving taxpayer funds from a city council member, they should legally be forced to open their books. Anyone know the laws surrounding that??

Anonymous said...

Those two old harridans on the TA Facebook page are probably responsible for fewer and fewer people posting there. One of them actually admits that she loves opposing Edmund Dunn for the pleasure of it. I know several people, longtime and fairly recent, tenants who refrain from posting their honest thoughts on the TA FB because they don't want to be attacked by those two old "dears." Peter Stuyvesant will not hesitate to ban anybody who criticizes (or even questions) the TA, but takes no action agains those two oppositional-for-the-sake-of-it old ladies. I'm guessing they don't have too much to occupy their time. I only glance at the TA Facebook once or twice a week to see if there is anything I should know (because Management cannot be trusted in that department) and I always see posts from these two objectionable old women who contribute nothing, but bully others.

Yet the TA asks for $50 per year for membership! Unbelievable!

Just saw a post on the Tenants Association Facebook concerning a major-league flood in a bathroom. The tenant was put on hold and given the run-around. I hope that she sends it to the NYT RE section, and posts it online to warn every would-be tenant to never, ever rent here because we have the absolute shit-scrapings of a landlord who would rather we drown in backed-up effluence than have enough plumbers on hand to deal with such emergencies.

The owners and managers, "Tenants Association" and local pols have to be the most putrid, disgusting scum of the earth to treat us like this.

If this ever happens to me, I will call a pal at one of the major news outlets and let him come over with cameras to see what we have to endure.

Anonymous said...

Poor lady on the TA Facebook page dealing with a major flood and piss poor attitudes from security, and I look at the comments and pretty much everyone commenting is saying they have dealt with similar floods themselves. If that is not a sign of the damage that these people have done with their apartment renovations and reconfigurations, I don’t know what it.

Anonymous said...

Just reading about how someone on the TA fb had a terrible flood in her apartment today and was totally mistreated by the unprofessional behavior of "Public Security" (a/k/a Mall Cops).

Anonymous said...

Doesn't anyone get it?
The Tenants Association gets kickback money from Powers and his crew.
That's why they bend over for Management.
Hey, Susan Steinberg, exactly where did that $30,000 go?
Can the "perp" walk be far behind?
Truly slimy and shameless.

The video on the main page is now at 700 views. Going up and up. Insert smiley face. You know, the similar one that was put in front of the clock at the main playground because Stuy Town couldn't handle repairing it.

I checked the TA Facebook page on that leak. What I saw angers me and had me almost in tears. (Yes, I will admit that.) I am going to post the first message/post, but leave out the name of the person. Many residents chimed in, and many offered emotional support. From reading the posts, it seems as if this is not infrequent, but not as great. (From what we know.)

"Today at 7:25pm water started pouring down from our bathroom ceiling and into our tub and bathroom floor. I called security and was put on hold and then transferred to maintenance where I was on hold for well over 10 mins. It was 8:03pm when someone from plumbing and maintenance came with a wet vac and the water was still pouring down the walls. During this 40 min lag time our bathtub filled up with filthy water and poured out into the rest of our apartment. I was in tears and called security again where they were rude to me and hung up on me. This is unacceptable behaviour from security and a disgusting lag time from management. Our bathroom and adjacent apartment floor are ruined and I am furious with how Stuy town has handled this. I can only imagine how the renovation of our bathroom and adjacent floors will be handled. Security told me we had the most damage of anyone in our plumbing line, which I sincerely hope is true."

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I should calm down, but my suggestion is to get rid of a number of people, hire professionals and more of them, and stop it with the stupid "events" that are cheered by a few people compared with how many residents are actually here.

For sure, residents will somehow pay for this. (MCI?)

Anonymous said...

And so? Are you trying to say that this management is not bad? At least with Met we had heat, didn’t live in a dirty dorm dump and didn’t have to contend with noise from the oval events.

Anonymous said...

Chief Martin is as incompetent as it gets. She's former NYPD which explains a lot. The incompetence at the NYPD is almost boundless at this point. One can only assume that Beam Living is afraid to get rid of her because she is female and would most certainly file suit, regardless of the fact that she could not possibly do a worse job than she currently does. No one could be worse. I imagine they just send her pay to her home as she cant be here and be this bad, it's just inconceivable that anyone could be that bad at their job and not get fired.

Anonymous said...

No one is going to get fired here, ever. They want incompetence. And they have it. Heck, they pay good money for it, so if you are reading this and you are totally incompetent, then there is a job waiting for you at Beam Living.

Anonymous said...

Bath tub backing up with brownish-brackish water.

This is luxury living at its best???
Stop with the sophomoric "events" and hire some plumbers.

They both live in the sty. One of them enjoys the sounds of the hockey pucks. I know for a fact that they both live in the sty. They may be very nice people if you knew them personally, but the way they sneer and argue for the sake of arguing and getting the last word on FB makes me wonder. If all the shit that people complain of doesn't bother them at all, why bother saying so? Just enjoy the garbage that Management dishes up.

Anonymous said...

"I should calm down, but my suggestion is to get rid of a number of people, hire professionals and more of them, and stop it with the stupid "events" that are cheered by a few people compared with how many residents are actually here."

YES!!! Hayduk and his "team" of incompetents should be fired. Not only that, but there should be some public hearings on the malfeasance and the endangerment of tenants that is perpetrated by Hayduk and that useless Public Safety Chief. I have lived here for over 40 years and have never seen this place in such bad shape. Even the Tishman Speyer and CWC ghouls were not as bad as this crew. Hayduk is a totally vile and incompetent and uncaring SOB. I DO NOT with him well when he finally leaves this place.

Anonymous said...

Yes, the TA bans anyone who criticizes their bogus operation. You are allowed to moderately criticize management as a couple of posters do, but by and large the criteria for staying in their obnoxious group is not saying anything bad about them.

Anonymous said...

Most of the renters now are just looking for a six month or one year lease and are students, transients, and tourists. On the other hand there is an increasing number of city subsidized who are thrilled to get a 3600 one room for the minimal rent they pay. Their new renting base could care less about plumbing, grounds, or benevolent landlords. They rent through the universities, Airbnbs and agencies. Don’t care about reviews or media. Take a look at the lousy reviews on Yelp. 2 and a half star average. Apartments still get filled regularly. Some rent rooms out. That is a big business here now.

Anonymous said...

Mine is 5 old timers but one crammed in with two families., one likely city subsidized, 1 students and one newer family. Pretty lucky. My building on the other hand, looks to be over 50 percent students and roomies. On the floor below there 3 or 4 student dorms.

Anonymous said...

We need more than just (self-described) Building Leaders. We need Floor Captains, too. LOL. Would any of them volunteer to help out their neighbors in case of a major flood as described above (or worse)? Doubtful.

So true 1:44. They are doing very well with this renting system which is appalling to us, but profitable to them.

Yes,these people may be incompetent but they are also smart and good with PR. They hire loyal company puppets. I don’t see it as necessarily hiring incompetents. It is hiring people will follow their lead in destroying this property.

Ice cold pipes all day. I can understand it if there is a fault in the sensor system, but what I cannot understand or accept is why these flaming fucktards who call themselves "management" don't do something about the sensors that never fucking kick-in and force us to use the oven all day. Is this one way of trying to kill us to get rid of us?

This is the worst, as in the very worst, management we have ever had and I think that if we had honest politicians, as opposed to graft-taking scumbags, Hayduk and his filthy crew of sleazy cretins would be prosecuted, fined and even jailed. Hayduk the only "hospitality" you would be comfortable working in is the Prison System. You'd enjoy that. Prisoners are starved of heat and decent conditions and that would be right up your alley. You ASSHOLE!

so you won't publish STR, but don't you get some idea of how desperate and miserable some of us are. sob

One thing that can't be disputed is that tenants have a great deal of concerns regarding the goings on in this slum. How is it that tenants association doesn't even hold at least bi-annual meetings exclusively for the airing out of quality of life grievances pertaining to living in this sty? What the hell are they here for?

Anonymous said...

They are here to serve management. You must know by now that they are a bogus, phony organization. They are in tandem with this management. At one time they served the tenants but not anymore.

Anonymous said...

As I walked through the neighborhood today, I realized that this dump must have the biggest concentration of college student residents in the city, excluding the NYU and Columbia campuses. As I saw the idiot Santa Com’s walking through this occurred to me. Aren’t you ashamed Blackstone for turning this family community into a dorm dump.

Anonymous said...

The Tenants Association is a bunch of self-important, two-faced, possibly criminal, parasites.
They are a blight on what was once an oasis in the middle of the city.

According to Rick the Dick, there are white cards in the lobbies for people who don't have email to OPT-IN to having their names put back in the intercom. I haven't seen any such cards in my building or the building next door. There are probably a lot of elderly people and people who are sick and housebound who have no idea that their names have been ripped out of the intercom. More isolation and danger for these people.

There is something so calculatedly evil about this management. Whether it's depriving tenants of heat on the coldest days, arranging and then cancelling events without any notice, explanation or apology, forcing tenants to be knee-deep in shit before they will send a plumber .... it goes on. The removal of all names in the intercom and ripping down the directories is something that could cost lives, but they don't care. It will come back to bite Rick in the ass. We'll keep tabs on him when he leaves here to fuck up somewhere else.

Santa Com jerks holding up the elevators. A group was on, six or so, reeking of alcohol. There was a unopened beer and half filled glass on the lobby shelf. Thanks Slick Rick and Blackstone for forcing us to put up with this college scum. And it is not just only today. They don’t belong here.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Slick Rick will deny emphatically that there are hordes of students here. He doesn't like this place to be described as a dorm. Talk about being in denial!

Anonymous said...

I will never forget how at the first TA meeting after we were sold to Blackstone, their rep assured us the number of students wouldn’t increase. What a load of crap they fed us with Garodnick and the TA in their corner. This place will soon be 70 percent roomies, students , and city subsidized. They have continued their lies for four years.

Anonymous said...

Blackstone and its oily rep, Slick Rick, have lied to us so much that I think that by now we can just assume that everything we are told is a lie. There is something so pathetic and pathological about Rick's lies and I hate the fact that he corrupts his underlings because he makes them lie for him by following the script. I think I'd rather have Rob Speyer because he was openly and honestly a bloodsucking bastard with no conscience and no moral compass. Apart from his stupid, lying statement to start off with (the one on STR's front page) he didn't pretend to be anything better than an unfeeling, subhuman bastard. That is one of the major reasons I try not to call PS, see Resident Services, or talk to Rick. If I must, I have to repress my anger. How many lies or reading from a script can one believe? If you don't believe them, then you will not be disappointed.

In the other Stuy Town blog that is not associated with the TA but made up of residents, I saw this new posting:

>>The Stuyvesant Town photo with Santa event for dogs was a major disappointment! When I got to the ice rink, there were no signs saying where Santa was! When I went into the ice rink, I was pointed to a tiny little room in the back where sat the most miserable looking Santa I've seen. A blue background and two measly Christmas trees. There was a photographer there, and I asked how much the photos would cost. He said not to worry, they would be reasonable. He proceeded to take many photos of my dog on an unsmiling, skinny Santa. I was told I would get the photos in 2 days - it took 5 days. Then, I received pictures of another dog with his family, not mine. I called the photographer and he kept me on hold while he searched for my photos. Later on I received an email with only (6) pictures of my pup. She was not even looking at the camera in any of them and Santa's eyes were closed in one. The colors were over-saturated and didn't look professional at all! Then came the best part - $50.00 to download one photo!<<

Good job, Rick and Resident Services!

Again, where are our politicians fighting against these Management sponsored commercial enterprises taking place within our property? Aren’t things like this against the zoning laws? Maybe if some of these “progressive” politicians we have would actually stand up to some of the atrocities actually happening to us instead of bitching about hypotheticals and Trump, we would be in a better situation.

The pukefedt that occurred throughout the property last night proved once and for all that Rick Hayduk is a FUCKING LIAR when he says this is not a dorm. Rick, you are a FUCKING LIAR and their is nothing more to you than that.

The people who were ripped off by the photographer should demand their money back and, if no joy there, contact BBB and Dept. Consumer Affairs. We don't have to put up with the huckster shit that "management" brings in to fleece us. It's bad enough that "management" always has its dirty hands in our pockets and fleeces us by not giving us heat, peace and quiet and have ripped out all the tenant directories. They inflict all this cheap tacky shit on us in the name of Christmas (which they don't even know the meaning of) and try to rob us at the same time. Don't let them get away with it. Complain and DEMAND you money back.

Rick is a two-bit hustler and I don't believe he has an honest bone in his body.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like Rick is setting up sleazy commercial projects. It's bad enough that commercial projects are against the zoning laws, but to recruit the lowest of the low adds insult to injury. What kind of tacky "resorts" did Rick work at in the past? He certainly was never a property manager. Can't think why they hired such a loser because there has to be better out there.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Of course Rick is a liar. For Blackstone and that paycheck.

Just went to Target to pick up a few food items and was pleasantly surprised by the variety and prices - especially the prices! The shelves were pretty bare, but they have probably had a lot of Associated refugees shopping there and the Santacom crowd.

When I came back there were two older ladies trying to find somebody's name in the intercom. They knew the name of the person they were visiting, but were not sure of the apartment number and, of course, no names are in the intercom. I let them in. No way were they dangerous. I also noticed a pink slip from the USPS scotch-taped up in the lobby. The name of the sender was present, as was the name of the recipient, but no apartment number. Therefore the postal worker could not take the package to the apartment and the recipient has to go and bail it out of the Post Office. That should be fun. All this thanks to the BONE-HEADED IDIOT-IN-CHIEF who doesn't think we are entitled to have our names listed in a directory or intercom. Too much work for his staff and oy! the expense! Maybe he'll eventually get the intercom updated, but meanwhile this is is causing a lot of inconvenience to tenants and their visitors and postal workers. And it is doing fuck-all for security. What a maroon!

Anonymous said...

I hope they put a Rite Aid in Associated's spot. I like Rite Aid.

Anonymous said...

No cards in the lobby of my building for people o opt-in to having their names in the intercom. Plenty of pamphlets advertising their shitty events that get cancelled without notice and which only the desperate attend, anyway.

Anonymous said...

I certainly hope not. Getting my prescriptions would become a big hassle. The closest one is on 23rd and First. So inconvenient. Would bother me more than the closing of Associated which I am getting used to not being there. Anyway Trader Joe’s is coming soon. CVS would be a real loss.

Anonymous said...

Target is good for some items, but do not care for the food selection. This is an express store and their stock on everything is limited, except for toys.

A Rite Aid would be OK, but I would rather see a nice supermarket.

As far as I'm concerned, Hayduk and his crew have violated our homes and, therefor, violated our lives. They have reduced to security to minimal-to-none levels; we freeze in our apartments every cold day and night; we have to listen to students and casual stay-overs partying at all hours; our lungs are assaulted by the stench of pot indoors and those fucking leaf-blowers outside. Rake the fucking leaves. It's easier and safer and healthier.

By removing our names from the directories and intercoms Hayduk has violated our right to have our names attached to our homes and is causing much distress. He claims "privacy" reasons, but he's the same fucking asshole who told PS to buzz in anybody and everybody to roam our buildings on Halloween.

Bottom line is: Hayduk thinks we are shit and treats us like shit. Those appalling commercial gimmicks and events compound the insult. I don't think this guy sits up at night, thinking of ways to insult us and make us miserable. These ideas come to him spontaneously because he is just a jerk with the mindset of a jerk.

An outside door to our building has not locked for about month (that I know of). During this period, I as well as others have reported it to both Resident Services and Security.

The major difference between loser Speyer's failed predatory PCVST business plan and Schwarzman's/Blackstone's successful predatory PCVST business plan is our corrupt NYC Councilman Garodnick/Powers and our corrupt, hijacked, disgraced PCVST TA Board fully approve, endorse, support and cheerlead Schwarzman/Blackstone successfully executing what is essentially Speyer's failed predatory business plan intended to rake in multiple billion dollar PCVST windfalls destroying the historic, world-renowned, middle class PCVST residential community. It's the same predatory PCVST business plan. The plan never changed.

Schwarzman/Blackstone, the most notorious Wall Street predator on earth is paying just call Rick Hayduk to think we are shit and treat us like shit.

"An outside door to our building has not locked for about month (that I know of). During this period, I as well as others have reported it to both Resident Services and Security."

They don't care. They just don't care. This is the reality we now have to live with. Security is a joke. A sick joke. We are not safe in our homes and are vulnerable to whatever is out there and can get in. The face that our apartments are our homes means nothing to Hayduk and his crew. We are violated at every level. Ripping out the directories was a way of saying: "Your safety and the sanctity of your homes means nothing to us. You are just here to pay the rent and must expect nothing in the way of security and dignity of being listed as a tenant. We can and will do anything we want and you must just suck it up. You don't like the lack of security: suck it up; you have to wait for an appointment weeks down the road when a calamity occurs with the plumbing: suck it up; you have no heat: suck it up. Just pay your rent, don't expect any of the services you would get in a well-run apartment complex: suck it up." We just have to look out for ourselves and not expect any kind of services that formerly our rent and lease would guarantee.
Of course, we will get the execrable Oval noise from the ghetto-style outdoor music and entertainment and that is another thing we have to suck up.
Back in the days when the neighborhood was surrounded by a squalid, drug-infested ghetto, people partied and played boom boxes in the street. We were lucky that we didn't have that actually on the property (except when kids walked through with boom boxes on their shoulders. Now we have noisy, nasty music blasted on speakers positioned in the Oval (which bears absolutely no resemblance to what the Oval used to be. We just have to suck it up.
Overflowing drains backing up and flooding apartments and no plumbers on site to deal with it: suck it up.
This isn't NYCHA, but it isn't far off. So what if we are paying thousands of dollars for our apartments that are full of filthy effluence from rotten plumbing and constant noise from partying students. Suck it up.

We had no heat at all last night and were so cold. We really are being treated like garbage. I have a little one and don't like to get a heater in case he touches it and gets burned, but I can't live like this anymore. Somebody should be heavily fined and/or jailed for inflicting this kind of misery on tenants. The NYCHA project can't be much worse than this. Why are they doing this to us? We pay the rent every month, cause no problems and all we want is heat in freezing cold weather. We need heat over night, not just a quick blast early evening. Small children and the elderly are at serious risk for getting sick without heat and at risk from getting burned or starting a fire with a space heater.

This inhumane. These people running the place are thugs. Nothing more and nothing less. Just thugs.

I wrote the comments about referencing the Kushners and I apologize. I t was over the top. I was angry and feeling very frustrated by all the misery this landlord is inflicting. I had read somewhere that the Kushners got out of Germany by the skin of their teeth and that's why that cruel thought came into my mind. Maybe STR could delete the post because offending people isn't what this blog is about.

FWIW, my wife gave me a good ear-blasting when she read it and has threatened to throw my laptop down the garbage chute.

Hayduk/Blackstone decided to remove the directories at the very time of the year when they are most needed. We have packages and mail being delivered in greater volume than other times of the year; friends and family (some traveling from far away places) coming to visit or stay and that intercom is not at all user-friendly. The directories are a very, very useful tool for delivery people, postal workers and Aunt Mable who is short sighted and has arthritic fingers that cannon deal with that bloody complicated intercom.

What this boils down to is that "management" we are not people. We are numbers. Everybody has their numbers - their apartment number and their intercom number. No names. Just numbers. It's bad enough the buildings look like a bad day in Warsaw, and reducing us to numbers just complete the bleakness. The artificial tack littered around the property and called "decorations" just emphasize the ugliness of the place and the mentality that runs it.

Mail service

Landlords are required to either provide and maintain approved mailboxes and directories of tenants, as provided by federal law and by the regulations of the post office department, or they must arrange for mail to be delivered to them, their agents, or employees for prompt distribution (per section 27-2047 of the Housing Maintenance Code).

@9:08 AM: Management is indeed doing a great deal of harm to tenants (especially the elderly) by removing the directories. I really don't think that Hayduk cares how much suffering and inconvenience he inflicts because he has a heart of stone. You have to be like that to work for Blackstone. I know they sent out an email giving tenants the option to "Opt-in" to having their names in the intercom, but they shouldn't have removed the names in the first place. As for the cards they said were going to be put in the lobbies for those who don't have email addresses: none in my building or other buildings, according to friends I have in other buildings.

I really believe that this management is as heartless and ruthless as they get. They just violate the laws they should be obeying and get away with it because of political clout.

Tenants who are elderly, sick or very young are subjected to freezing cold temperatures overnight (and during a good part of the day) because management is not going to provide heat at or above the mandated subsistence levels. I'm sure there are a lot of elderly and sick people shivering in their apartments and Meals on Wheels, aides, carers are able to get in and check on them or tend to their needs. It's as if Management wants to isolate the elderly and vulnerable and see how long it takes for them to die. A lot of this is cold-blooded vengeance and greed because the laws recently changed that allowed management to gouge and bleed every last penny out of tenants. Now they have to rent the property out as a dorm, an unsupervised dorm. Hayduk insults our intelligence with his blatant lies. He should know better because we have his number and know exactly what he is. As for hoping for any support from our local politicians, they are only passing through and getting what they for themselves. They are even less use than the Tenant Association and it's hard to get worse than that outfit!

@ Stand Up and Fight

FYI - People are already looking into this. Can’t say more than that for now.

Sooner or later, Blackstone will have to replace ALL the directories that they removed, since it is clear that they are violating the law. Their vile, unctuous lawyer, Fred Knapp, should have known better than to advise them to do this. And, if he didn’t advise them on this, then Rick Hayduk is an even bigger, more ignorant and more dangerous idiot than he already appears to be to have ordered that this be done without consulting his legal people.

This is only usual now because Blackstone is having revengeful hissy fits about the recent change in rent laws that stop them from gouging. They are evil bastards and not fit to run a residential property. They treat people like shit - which is what they themselves are. Tell RS that you are going to pour a few jugs of Liquid Plumber down the sink (protect your eyes and skin from backsplash from the chemicals) and if they have to replace the pipe, tough!

I am convinced that Management pays "cheerleaders" to go on the TA Fb to counter complaints. One poor lady just posted about how cold her apartment is and some plant jumped in right after her to describe how wonderful the property is and how everything works tickety-boo in this haven of perfection. Immediately, another one jumped in to agree with him.

This is not the first time Management has used paid plants to counter criticism. There was a classic on the T&V thread about the removal of the directories. Some regular (i.e. real) poster called it a "paid announcement" in a hilarious post. Btw, the plant on the TA fb page never mentioned heat or lack of heat; just went into ecstatic praise of the cleanliness and beauty of the buildings and grounds. I guess he's never noticed the filthy, uncovered mattresses, dog shit and general filth lying around on the property (all since Hayduk took over as mismanager).

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I've got some photos to show the "cheerleaders." Actually, many photos.

Sorry to disagree, and you may be right that the number of pro Hayduk tenants is shrinking but there is still a sizable group. A couple of them still e-mail him with their issues, send out group e-vites to his events . I socialize with a group of them. And of course the ST moms still adore him. So, though I am not denying a decrease, I know for a fact that there is a sizable group. Some of them separate him from his bosses.

After all Pig Stuy Town is almost 75 years old.
Sink gets clogged too.

Need I go on...and on...and on...and on.
Wait! I have a great idea. I'll just contact Susan Steinberg and ask her counsel.
After all, she is President of the Tenants Association.
She must have some clout.
Guess what Susan replied?

They don’t care. They will refute anything negative said about the property. And I personally know a few of them. Not just talking about the posters.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if Rick ever apologized for canceling the S'mores and Songs event without notice? Same for the Chips and Salsa events to be held in lobbies (which I'm sure would have delighted tenants living on those floors).

They don't have money to maintain the directories (which are mandated by law), but they have money for the cheesy, crappy events that appeal to a handful of people. I wish Rick would get it into his thick head that he running a residential property and not a fucking hotel!

I have never before been in a multi-unit apartment building that has as many violations as the one I live in, and I am assuming the violations are complex-wide. No certificates of inspection in the elevators, no tenant directories and little to no heat and bicycles zipping around the pathways as if they are in the Tour de France. I would if there is somebody (maybe a politician) who is paid to have the City agencies look the other way? This place is absolutely deplorable when it comes to obeying City laws. I guess DeBlasio has set the tone. When somebody dies or is maimed as a result of this flagrant nose-thumbing of the laws that protect us tenants, somebody's head will roll. Or maybe not. Depends on the price.

Anonymous said...

I hope they are at least handsomely compensating these moron tenants that praise them! I honestly could not in my good conscience take money from these bastards and then go on to a Facebook thread about someone struggling with heat and praise Rick. That is some really deranged shit right there.

Most definitely they pay people to praise Management and sing the praises of life in the Sty. Remember when the composting program first started? There was a paid shill on the TA fb all the time during the roll-out urging tenants to compost. Never hear a word from her now. Some people will do anything for money (or "perks").

I miss Associated so much! That little Target branch has NOTHING worth having in their grocery section (didn't even venture downstairs). I know I'm not going to do much shopping at Trader Joe because I don't like frozen meats, chicken and fish. Maybe I'll buy some fresh greens there (if they have any), but it's going to be a mini-store like Target. We need a real supermarket within easy walking distance of this project. We used to have so much choice - Red Apple, Pioneer/A&P/Gristedes. Red Apple was my favorite. It's bad enough that "Management" treats us like shit, now we are on the shit side of the tp when it comes to grocery stores (if you'll pardon the crude comparison). We had green grocery stores, card shops, shoe repairers and a plethora of small businesses to shop at and support the local economy. It's like living in the middle of Nowhere. I don't like to shop for food online because I like to walk around a supermarket and check out the quality of what they sell. Associated was not the greatest supermarket in the world, but it was adequate, affordable and convenient. Now, we have nothing. I don't know what the elderly and people with mobility issues do for getting fresh food. I suspect that Blackstone is trying to kill off that demo. I work 10-hour shifts and want a local, open-late supermarket. Is that too much to ask?

Anonymous said...

The retail around here is awful. I do not like a Target for groceries, but they are fine for drugs and paper goods. Did not like Associated, but miss the convenience a bit. Looking forward to Trader Joe’s. Right now a once weekly trek to Dags or Morton Williams is not terrible.

Anonymous said...

" I work 10-hour shifts and want a local, open-late supermarket. Is that too much to ask?"

Oh, you gotta go live in a Big City with a Vibrant Nabe to get what you want. Don't you know that we are living on the wrong side of the tracks? True, this used to be a Vibrant Nabe, but now it is as sterile as Hayduk's e-blasts (and as cold as his heart). This is what happens when developers and predators (same thing really) "develop" a neighborhood. It becomes as cold, sterile and boring as their money-hungry hearts and souls.

I hate this neighborhood as much as I hate Hayduk and Blackstone. I used to love it, but it has been changed into something as cold, depressing and sterile as an abortion clinic.

Where does "Management" get off advertising this dump as "luxury" apartments? We have minimal heat - they skate just at or even below the City rules regarding heat. What luxury apartment management does that?! We have no REAL amenities here. The pathetic bread and circus events that "Management" provides are not in any way "luxury" or would be offered at a real luxury complex. They would be scorned at best and probably not even considered appropriate at worst.

We have no amenities here. There are gyms all over town that are better and more affordable than the ones offered here; Oval Study is only appealing to students - which Liar Hayduk claims we don't have many of. That overpriced, shitty little cafe (with all the dogs!) is abhorrent and unhygienic and the Oval events and movies are no better than you would find in a church hall in Shitsville, MO. There is NOTHING even remotely luxurious, sophisticated or even remotely worth considering about this dump. It was an enviable place to live when it was bucolic and peaceful, but now it is like some scruffy, underfunded apology for an inner-city park.

They can't call the apartments "luxury" because they are under-heated, plagued with plumbing problems that result in raw sewage overflowing into apartments and the walls are so thin that you can hear every bodily function of your neighbors. Plus some.

They should just stop advertising this dump as anything more than it actually is. An aging, decrepit, badly-maintained borderline slum. The apartments were never great (apart from their size, which is a moot point now we have six people crammed into a former one-bedroom), but the grounds were very attractive and an anomaly in this loud and dirty city. The destroyed that. Let's get real. This is now a dorm with a few actual "tenants" and is not worth even looking into if you want a nice place to call home.

Anonymous said...

DeBlasio along with Garodnick and the TA were involved in the deal. I think DeBlasio gets subsidized city apartments here and there is probably some deal in which the city ignores violations. He was heavily involved.

I saw a new sign on our front building door: LEED. What is LEED? Online (https://new.usgbc.org) it says:

"A LEED credential denotes proficiency in today's sustainable design, construction and operations standards. More than 203,000 professionals have earned a LEED credential to help advance their careers."

Yeah, that's what I think about when I think of Stuy Town.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Interior Design and Construction.

Neighborhood Development."

It does make you think of Stuy Town and its buildings.

This is from 2011, so beware:

>>Plaintiffs recently filed a class action lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York alleging that L.E.E.D. green building certification is a scam. The Complaint was filed against the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and others on behalf of those “who paid for L.E.E.D.-certification for property they owned in reliance on Defendants’ deceptive marketing claims that L.E.E.D. certified properties use 25% less energy and achieve CO2 emissions reductions over non-L.E.E.D. certified properties as well as improved air quality and improved water efficiency.”

The class action lawsuit also seeks to bring claims on behalf of trades, taxpayers and persons who design energy efficient buildings and who suffer injury by L.E.E.D.’s “monopolization” of the market through its fraudulent and intentionally misleading representations.

The allegations are sweeping. Plaintiffs allege that L.E.E.D.’s “rating system is not based on objective scientific criteria,” and that the “rating system is not based on actual measurements but rather computer modeling of anticipated energy use levels of a building’s performance.” Plaintiffs contend that the USGBC used a “skewed” sample in forming its determination of L.E.E.D.’s claims. The Complaint further argues that the USGBC’s decision to use “mean energy use” as opposed to “median energy use” misrepresents the truth, which Plaintiffs say “would show a mean average energy use value of 105, which is 29% higher than the mean average energy use” of the United States Energy Consumption Survey’s catalog of 5,215 buildings constructed as early as 1920. The bottom line is that the Complaint alleges that L.E.E.D. buildings perform worse than conventionally built structures.

If proven true, the whole L.E.E.D. certification movement may drop dead in its tracks. Of course, it is too early to form any judgments. Scientists and judges will need to sift through the data to find the objective truth.<<

>>More importantly, LEED is bullshit.

LEED is a private entity that you pay to get LEED certification based on your planned designs. Once you have certification, you could build literally anything else. If you buy a LEED certified building, you could convert it to be heated and powered by burning tires and endangered animals- still LEED Certified.

There is no decertification process, because that would mean spending money to reduce the number of buildings with the very-public name on it. Why would LEED ever want that?<<

"Shocker of shocker. The T&V rag actually wrote an article about heat complaints being up in ST and PC. Of course Slimy Rick refuted it. Liar."

It is clear that Rick either thinks we are stupid or he is a pathological compulsive liar who can't help but lie and has no control over it. It can be a form of mental illness (our President suffers from the same malady). I have never seen such blatant liars in all my life! It's mind boggling!

As someone who works on elevators, I can say with 100% certainty that there has to be a notice in the elevator that states where the certificate of inspection is located. It is city law/code.

Oh and by the way, these elevators are a disaster waiting to happen. Only a matter of time before a serious incident takes place.

I believe that. I feel nervous every time I step into one of them. I hope that elevator maintenance has been cut because they are so pissed about the new rent laws. If they have, then somebody should go to jail. The love of money is at the root of all evil and Blackstone is all about evil.

24 degrees and dropping and we haven't had heat since 9:30 pm. I have the oven on to try and keep warm because I don't want my toddler to get sick. If he does get sick I will take legal action against these bloodsucking, evil scum. Hayduk is a man with no conscience or decency. Would he make his family live in such misery? Blackstone is a notorious slumlord and I curse the vermin politicians and the TA for inflicting them on us.

I woke up around 2:30 AM. I checked as my nose was cold, a telltale sign of the temperature. So, the pipes were like ice. No heat before and none coming up. I guess it's plenty warm outside per legal instructions....

STR, you would have laughed. The first morning I noticed the LEED sign on the entrance glass to my building, one of Bobcats was parked directly in front of that new LEED sign. That vehicle is the complete opposite of what LEED claims to try and accomplish.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

And that's the truth. Stuy Town does not adhere to "green living" standards. Yes, for publicity, but in truth, aside from a few things, no.

That cheerleader continues to denigrate posters who complain. Today she replied to a post regarding signage with it is no big deal to her. Nothing is a big deal to this one. No heat, noise, filth, etc. I can imagine what her apartment looks like, probably akin to the Sty.

Of course, I meant to say: I hope elevator maintenance has NOT been cut .....

I'm a lousy typist!

Everything that anybody else complains about is NBD to that woman. She's sick. As for the notices, the ones on my floor keep falling off. They must be using cheap sticky to put them up. Can't read them anyway because the font is too small.

If this stuff was really no big deal to her, she wouldn't bother to post it. I think she's a sick, lonely old woman who always has to pipe up to remind herself she's alive and relevant - even though she is definitely NOT relevant!

Somebody said Rick's family had moved out. I don't blame them. Why would they want to live without heat like the rest of us!

Anonymous said...

I am certain that Hayduk’s apartment was NEVER without heat. They are able to manually adjust the heat in lines. That is what makes it so evil and despicable. Every time I complained, they were able to boost the heat up.

So...I went to Resident Services and asked to see the elevator inspection of my building. (The city gov site says the inspection report is either in the elevator or in the manager's office.) Of course, I did not see anyone except the clerk at Resident Services, who informed me that the manager's office will be open on Monday and there was no manager around. (Hi, Rick!) So this does not seem to be "according to Hoyle." A resident cannot see the simple elevator inspection until Monday, if he or she can see it at that time anyway. This seems a clear violation.... Do I need to mention that our TA should be doing all this? Fat chance!

I got my dues reminder from the TA today! LMFAO!

"Shocker of shocker. The T&V rag actually wrote an article about heat complaints being up in ST and PC. Of course Slimy Rick refuted it. Liar."

It must be only in the paper version (which I do not get) and not on the blog. I don't think they'll put it on the blog because too many people would comment and Rick wouldn't like that. He's probably pissed off at T&V that it put the removal of the directories on the blog and it brought forth many more comments than most articles do! He even had to hire a shill to put in her ten cents worth. She soon got shot down in flames!

Blackstone would prefer to pad the pockets of DOB investigators than actually pay for a legitimate elevator maintenance contract.

Anonymous said...

Elevator inspection certificates are probably hidden-away in a locked safe to which only one person has the combination. And that individual is not always present onsite, of course.

So did I! It also said I was a member!

I got Tenants Association dues reminder notice today.
Tore it up.
Truly, you have no sham, Susan Steinberg.
Still trolling for the $50?
Pathetic.

Ricks wife and kids left long ago. Why is he still here?

Anonymous said...

Because he is still manager of the property, like it or not. Probably spends half the time in Florida. Comes in for his big circus events.

The mail person for my building told me all the carriers are up in arms over removal of tenant apartment directories.
"It makes our job so much more difficult. Why not just put them back? How simple is that?"
NO ACTION ON THIS OR ANY OTHER ISSUE FROM OUR PHONY TENANT ASSOCIATION!

Anonymous said...

Has anyone taken any steps to compel the Tenants Association to open their books?

Anonymous said...

Isn't Stuy Town legally required to provide a tenant directory? Is anyone taking action on this?

Anonymous said...

There has been a plethora of package thefts lately and it doesn't help that there are no directories with names and apartment numbers in the lobbies. The intercoms have still not been put back to where they were. According to something Adam Rose posted on fb, it is a legal requirement that landlords provide a directory of us lives in the buildings and what the apartment number is. How do they get away with this blatant violation of the law? Maybe if all of us file a complaint with HPD something will be done. It seems that federal and city laws just don't apply to this dump - at least not from the POV of Management. It is totally unacceptable. Where are our paid elected representatives? Keith Powers, are you reading this?

"Because he is still manager of the property, like it or not. Probably spends half the time in Florida. Comes in for his big circus events."

I wish he'd go away and stay away. We need a Manager who cares about tenants and obeys the laws that are instituted to protect tenants.

Anonymous said...

We will never get one under this company for the hundredth time. The manager follows through with what the company tells him.

Anonymous said...

They also do nothing when you report a package stolen. Their videos are worth nothing. They could care less. Would not be surprised if some of the thefts are internal.

>>My god you people need to get a life. All i see on here is negativity. When i go in i am envious Of how beautiful it is and all you have to
Do turn your key.<<

I can't address this directly on the TA Facebook, despite being a member according to Susan, so let me address this here, particularly as I see comments like above regularly.

The "get of life" comment is not only insulting but ridiculous. Everyone has "a life." Maybe a person doesn't have your life (surprise!), but everyone does have a life, unless they are dead. "All I see on here is negativity." People address want they want to. Some people address problems, some are cheerleaders, and some in the middle. "Do turn your key." And that comment means the person is intentionally home-bound mentally? How do you know? How do you know a person has not "turned the key" to see and experience life more than you?

In other words, and pardon my Brooklyn coming up, shut the fuck up!

Anonymous said...

Blackstone gets away with whatever they like. Not having a real TA( the one here is a fraud do nothing body) we cannot fight anything. Just the situation here. Who do you think is going to fight it ?

Anonymous said...

But they don’t shut up. They continue to cheerlead for Hayduk and company. They are truly sickening. If I wasn’t banned, I would answer this loser back. Someone should.
