Goodbye Associated

There's been a lot of talk about this supermarket closing. Some of the comments have been pro and some negative. I shop daily there, mostly for milk, sometimes for the deli department. And I always check to see what's on sale, as some of the sale prices are indeed beckoning. Soon, though, no more. The store is becoming empty of items, though many perishables are still to be had. Signs say that the other Associated store at 8th Street and Ave C will have flyers, etc., but that's too far to walk for most. The Management at Stuy Town promised another similar store will take its place, but I'm not holding my breath.

Anyway, one less option for me and for many others. Goodbye.

"Come on, who is going to take steps?"

Several of my neighbors have said they are going to file complaints with HPD about the removal of the directories. I may join in. Have to find out if it costs anything to do that because my purse strings are pretty tight at this time of year. Don't know if there'll be legal fees. One of the neighbors is going downtown to get that info next week.

Hayduk is an absolute prick. He doesn't give a damn about local laws and ordinances. He just sneers at them. I'd love to see the property get a great big fine for this and for the removal of the inspection information in the elevators.

The Tenants Association should really be doing this, as should our so-called councilman, Keith Powers. But we know they will do nothing because they are on Blackstone's under-the-table payroll.

People aren’t even complaining in the thread where that woman made that snide remark. Everyone seems to be commenting on how cool it would be to have a park like that, and a few others saying the new park looks nice. No back and forth arguing/complaining, until she chimes in. And then an additional comment by a Blackstone shill.

Tweedledee and Tweedledumb cheerleaders will not stop. Everything is peachy here. They are being joined by a few new Hayduk groupies.

One of the cheerleaders stayed that this is not a hostel. That is exactly what it resembles. A dumpy, dirty hostel with students in and out. Cheer away Hayduk groupie.

We should all call 311 and report the removal of the directories. What they have done is a blatantly illegal act, but HPD says they can't do anything unless people complain. I believe that you give them your details and they will keep them anonymous. Nobody would ever report anything in this City if they couldn't remain anonymous. It's pretty obvious the TA isn't doing that much. They could do much, much more than they could if they tried. Getting the names back in the intercoms on an opt-in basis is too little too late - and it hasn't been done yet.

Read this and call 311

Article 12 - MISCELLANEOUS SERVICES AND FACILITIES
Section 27-2047
Section 27-2047

§ 27-2047 Mail service. The owner of a multiple dwelling shall either:

(1) Arrange for mail to be delivered to himself or herself, his or her agents, or employees for prompt distribution to the occupants; or

(2) Provide and maintain approved mail receptacles and directories of persons living in the dwelling, as provided by federal law and by the regulations of the post office department.

PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO (2). SEEMS RICK NEVER READ THIS BEFORE HE RIPPED OUT ALL THE DIRECTORIES.

WHO IS GOING TO TAKE STEPS???

For a year and a half now, I've been asking people to do just that: TAKE STEPS.

I found an organization willing to help us, wrote that here, and no one responded.

Write to me, please, so we can get this show on the road!

And, STR - I just finally read your message to me and responded. Please read your mail. Apologies for the long time between your writing and my responding.

My e-mail address again, so that we can gather and talk about the actions we can take:

Incessant ringing of intercom by people trying to get in.
They are simply looking for people they know but can't look for their names on directory.
Insane and illegal!

I have disconnected my buzzer because of this problem. It was happening just too frequently.
Somebody sent me a Christmas gift and it was returned as undeliverable because the sender had neglected to put my apartment number. What Management has done in removing the hall directories is totally illegal. It seems to be beyond short-sighted and stupid. It seems to be a malicious, spiteful act as they do it at the time of year when most people get extra mail and deliveries.

Behind Hayduk's supercilious smirk there is a heart of ice. He's not as stupid as he appears to be; he is just really mean-spirited and doesn't give a flying fuck about how much suffering he causes. He is just about the perfect employee for Blackstone.

The TA should be taking this matter up because it's not enough to persuade these goons to offer us the choice of opting into having our names in the intercom. We need directories in the halls. If this poses a problem of cost and effort for Hayduk and his employees, that is their problem and SHOULD NOT be ours. Rick is a total bastard.

In recent days and nights (including today) I hear somebody running down the stairs and slamming the doors as they cross from one staircase to another. I thought may it was menu guys because we get the occasional menu put under the door, but it often happens and there is no menu distribution. Makes me wonder if these are the people who cruise the stairs and halls looking for packages. Nothing we can do about it, I suppose.

Insane, illegal and money-grubbing. Maybe they save a few pennies by not updating the directories. Bloodsucking, cheap-assed grifters.

The TA will continue to do nothing. I agree that Hayduk is smart and knows exactly what he is doing, the perfect manager for Blackstone.

We are paying over $7k to live in an apartment with low quality appliances that constantly break down and tonight we had no water in the kitchen. It went off suddenly and we just decided to go out to dinner. Hope it comes on sometime tomorrow because we don't wan't to go out to breakfast (will if we have to).

Sometimes we get heat, more frequently we don't. We are breaking our lease as soon as we find somewhere at similar rent, but in a decent building. They can come after us, but we have good lawyers. How come they employ a village idiot to run this place? He takes down the directories and we have to have guests call us from the outer vestibules! Our letter carrier is tearing his hair out and we have just to have made arrangements for Federal Express and UPS to deliver our Christmas orders to a friend in a building (not in Stuy) where mail and shipments actually get there!

Talk about an overpriced slum! Jeeeezusss! We have learned our lesson and will pass it one to anyone who ever asks us "How was it living in Stuyvesant Town? Why did you leave?" If you are paying "market rent" (don't tell me we are all RS because I'll puke) just cut your losses and get out of this hellhole asap!

Also when you leave, please leave Blackstone with a "nice' Yelp review. Good luck.

Yesterday, when the temperature was in the 50s, we had heat all day. Today it's in the 40s and we have no heat. Can't these FUCKTARDS get anything right?

Anonymous said...

REMINDER: If you are one of the many residents who have suffered water shutdowns recently, don't forget to wash the aerator on your faucet or, better yet, buy a new one. I think that RS will replace them if you request, but ACE sells them for a couple of dollars. Take the ones you have with you to make sure you get the right size.

I buy a few at a time because of all the water shutdowns and dirty water we have here. You'd be amazed at how much crud gets caught in the aerator.

Anonymous said...

I didn't see the article in T&V about the lack of heat and it's too late to get that issue. Can anybody post a copy of it please? xxxx

I can’t believe that some bozo on the TA site wants to leave Playground 4 in that unfinished state. An accident waiting to happen. Dirty water, jagged rocks, dirt. Ok, a playground can be unstructured and cool, but a demolition site!

STAND UP AND FIGHT:

can you be a little more specific? what kind of steps do you have in mind and what kinds of issues are you trying to fight? there are many many issues here and IMO we can focus on maybe one substantive thing to fight back on. (for me, it's the noise/lack of carpeting, but I know many would choose a different issue)
have you met the blog owner in person and he has verified you are a real person not part of management?

Anonymous said...

incidentally, regarding 311:
if people are concerned about reporting things, I can assure you I've done it several times and it is indeed anonymous. Their web form is the simplest way of reporting anything--noise, construction, other violations. it takes 3 minutes and there are no repercussions.
in fact, my belief is that management was forced to put those phone numbers in every lobby by the DOB, when inspectors came and could not get access to the building. on the web form, they make you put a contact phone for the landlord or someone who can let them into the building. I would sometimes put resident services phone #.

nonetheless--I don't know how effective these complaints are. I know the airbnb complaints are RARELY if EVER followed up on. the city just doesn't give a @#@! about it. Construction noise is different and they usually follow up on that.
as far as heat goes--I don't believe they do anything. I think they log these complaints, but no action is ever take against any landlord, unless the media gets involved.

"I wonder if there is somebody (maybe a politician) who is paid to have the City agencies look the other way? This place is absolutely deplorable when it comes to obeying City laws."

regarding STAND UP AND FIGHT, honestly this is why I dont have much hope for reform here. This place, PCVST, is not just any little RS development, it is a big deal politically. I am 100% certain that the political deals and machinations and favors underlying it are deep as a hole to hell.
diblasio staked a lot of his reputation on "saving" (what a joke) this place and the NYT, that great liberal bastion of truth, publicized it for him.
I don't know how we can really get anything to change, without uncovering all the arrangements that these lying politicians made behind the scenes with their financial backers and investors.
our best hope in the last few decades has come from Cuomo, overriding diBlasio's (idiotic) decisions.

I agree that there is no fighting this landlord unless you have a viable TA with lawyers. Blackstone is politically connected. As you can see, Powers doesn’t stand up to them and there are too many transients and students who don’t care. I agree that DeBlasio and Blackstone work hand in hand. The only thing I disagree with is about Cuomo who is despicable as well. There is no standing up and fighting here. We on this blog might number 50 or so and that is a very small number. Face it, Stand up and Fight and all others who think we can take on this company, there is little or nothing we can do. Be realistic.

I have no problem with carols being played at the Oval. I guess one can hate "Silent Night," but it is not meant to indoctrinate someone, but can be a nice melody, as can the other carols. BTW, I am in this store and that one, I haven't heard Christmas carols, but I probably don't go to the same stores where these carols are played all the time.

The inaction of the/our TA is becoming legendary these days. Probably the greatest disappointment is the TA. Perhaps part is due to the age of some members, but I can be old, too. And others as well. Some top members just need to retire and make way for active people, old or young.

Anonymous said...

Has anybody else noticed how much our elevators shake and wobble and bounce when they stop? I hope they are not skimping on maintenance to save a few pennies. I would put nothing past these greedy bastards.

The TA does NOTHING. I got a letter asking for dues and they were patting themselves on the back because they got Management to reinstate the names in the intercom (which they haven't done so far) on the opt-in basis. Hello! Management has broken the law by taking down the hall directories and removing names from the intercoms. I hope we are all complaining to the City. 311 is anonymous and can be done online. If the directories don't go up, we need to keep on complaining to 311 and may write to Gov. Cuomo. I wonder if Cuomo realizes how landlords like these bloodsuckers are retaliating against tenants because of the changed rent laws?

Where is Keith Powers on the issue of the directories (and elevator inspection notices)? When he was running for office he was in our faces all the time. You couldn't walk down the street without either he or his people accosted you. I've never seen such an aggressive campaign. They were going through the buildings, ring doorbells and shoving their glossy literature in your face, under your door and would have stuck it up our asses if they could have. Powers' campaigning was borderline harassment. BUT WHERE IS HE NOW?????? If he doesn't do something about this management's ILLEGAL (and possibly dangerous) actions, some of us a are planning to give him such a hard time if he runs for office again. We will stand around with our own placards and leaflets detailing what a useless and corrupt jerk he is. Anybody can distribute pamphlets and leaflets and it doesn't cost much to get them printed and willing legs will do the distribution.

Is anyone aware of any other residential apartment building or complex in NYC, or anyplace else for that matter, where a new tenant told the landlord they want to be anonymous and the landlord's response was to overnight transform 30,000 legitimate, publicly identified, rent protected PCVST residents living in 11,250 publicly registered residential apartments throughout the entire PCVST residential complex into 30,000 anonymous, unidentified, possibly illegal occupants temporarily lodged in possibly illegal transient hotel/dormitory quarters that might possibly be somewhere in the same former PCVST residential buildings they previously permanently resided in for say 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or 60 years?

Well, that's what Just Call Rick a jerk did to all of us.

Not sure if new leaders would make a difference. The big problem lies in the fact that management runs and owns the TA. It is no longer an independent entity. That is proven by its reluctance to support tenants in critical issues.

Beam Living should be fined for every day that the directories have been missing. They are breaking the law and arrogantly think that the law doesn't apply to them. We need the directories to be put back up in the lobbies. It's not our fault that Management cannot keep track of who is living here. If you have a lease with your name on it, your name and apartment number should be clearly listed where mail carriers, delivery people, EMT (especially!) can see it. I don't care whether or not they list all the students, room mates, hotel guests, etc. The real TENANTS who actually live here full time and have legitimate leases should have their names and apartments on the directory. Of course, the intercom should have names too. That goes without saying.

Where the hell did they find this loser? He has to be the very worst Manager we have ever had - and we've had some bad ones. Even Sean Sullivan (a real dim bulb) was better because he didn't make our lives as miserable as this over-reaching, but under-performing dickhead we have now.

Anonymous said...

@8:04 AM, I don't think it's right to pick on anybody by name. I know some of the posters are nasty and smug, but picking on someone by name is not allowed on most sites. Blocking someone who harasses you is the only way to deal with them. "Peter Stuyvesant" picks and chooses who they will banish. They brook no criticism of the TA and allow criticism of Management. If they didn't allow that it would be a totalitarian set-up and they would probably lose a lot of posters because if you can't complain about Management on a "Tenants Association" blog page, then where can you air your grievances! Management reads the posts and critics are contacted by people from Management. I think that's why many people do not use their real names. I know for a fact that many don't.

And, no, I didn't see any manager. The manager (Rick, I assume) or his assistant seems to be absent this holiday season. Yeah, I know, but I have to go through the motions.

Basically, there is no elevator inspection page as of now.

Anonymous said...

The TA site, Peter Stuyvesant, that horrid figure or figures, will not tolerate criticism of their bogus sham of an organization. They will tolerate limited management criticism. 2:16 is correct. Management does read the site and arranged to meet with tenants that criticize them. Kind of a form of intimidation although Slick Rick takes the complaints down like he really cares.

Anonymous said...

"Basically, there is no elevator inspection page as of now."

STR, I think they are hiding something. Maybe the elevators haven't been inspected as recently as they should have been. Maybe they didn't pass inspection. It is very suspect. Rick Hayduk treats this as his own fiefdom where he can do whatever the hell he likes and the law be damned. If the TA was really a TA, they would be up in arms about all the violations on the property and the danger that they pose to us tenants. I think they have totally lost focus (if they ever had any focus) on what it means to be a Tenants Association.

Anonymous said...

Note the quote from Blackstone Properties. Blackstone has cut back bigly, but I don't think they are exempt from performing LEGALLY MANDATED MAINTENANCE which impacts the safety of tenants. If they are letting the elevators go to hell, then they are going to be liable if anybody is seriously injured or killed as a result of this. Maybe we should all go to the Management Office and demand to see the latest elevator inspection certificates.

Powers, Hoylman, Epstein: are you listening? Are you aware that Blackstone may be endangering our lives?

Maybe this is why I hear so many people using the stairs lately. Could be they know something we don't.

I think it's a safe bet that a company that has no problem with burning down the Amazon Rain Forest for its own profit, would have a problem with killing and maiming people by neglecting elevator inspections and maintenance. We are truly in the grips of EVIL.

>>I noticed that over the button panel in my elevator there is a metal sign that says inspection certificate can be viewed in PS office on the Oval.<<

I will take a look. The inspection form should be only in two places according to NYC law: either in the elevator itself (the best place) or in Management's office, which so far is not available to residents. It should NOT be in any PS office.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

This place is a nightmare, as far as laws (city and ST laws) are concerned. And it is not due to the new rent law. I have lots of photos that were taken by me way before the new rent law. Of course, with the new rent law (and let's see where that will go) making money for a landlord is more difficult, and Blackstone is doing its bit to screw tenants here.
