Front Page Photo Captures Stuy Town Fountain No-No

The front page of the recent TOWN & VILLAGE newspaper (July 9 issue) showed a photo, taken by editor Sabina Mollot, of five young ladies dipping their feet/legs in the Oval fountain. Though the caption below didn't mention it, dipping one's feet in the fountain--or anything else--is prohibited by Stuyvesant Town rules. Had Security shown up (ha!) that would have been a priceless photo indeed.

  1. Security was probably too busy ogling the five young "ladies" as a welcome distraction from Spongebob.

  2. Those people are ridiculous. So is the T&V. So is Sabina Mollot. This isn't news. This is TS's dream come true. It's sickening.

  3. The playground sprinklers are for children and parents playing with their children, not for bikini-clad selfish fools, some of whom are topless sunbathers in the Oval. It's out of hand and Mollot's comment about nearby sprinklers doesn't make any sense. The playgrounds are for children. Period.

  4. Ugh, it's hard to imagine sticking even my feet in that fountain. Can anybody comment on the Asser Levy outdoor pool on 23rd & Ave. C? Clean, crowded, safe, etc? Maybe if these young women knew there was a real pool around the corner, they wouldn't be tempted to dip into this grotty fountain, and in front of the voyeuristic eye of StuytownReport.

  5. Stuy Town Reporter didn't take that picture. Sabina Mollot took the picture and used it on the front page of T&V. She also suggested that people like those in the picture cool off in playground sprinklers that are meant for children.

  6. StuyTownJockstrap, keep your blinders on and stay on your own bs blog where you can continue trying to pretend you're right. I'm not 85 btw, not even close, and no one is subsidizing my apartment. You're just another jealous, overpaying, ignorant fool.

  7. Jealous of? Your dismissive invective? I don't "pretend to be right," but I know that calling young people "bikini-clad selfish fools" is wrong.

  8. StuyTown Supporter, as you didn't get your facts straight on your blog (shockingly so, I think), you also are not getting your facts straight here, as my post clearly states that I didn't shoot that photo, but that Town & Village's editor did.

Regarding T&V, I do think it serves a valuable purpose in this community, as, for one, it's the only resource that manages to get management's responses to issues when management is willing to give a response besides "no comment." I don't like the occasional Stuy Town fluff pieces, but the newspaper does not shy away from writing articles that present the other side. So T&V is trying for a balance, and frequently checks with both sides on important tenant issues.

Good point about the sprinklers being for children. I assume they are, too, but I'm not certain. I do know that when the sunbathing beauties use them, us guys get an eyeful that's a joy to behold!!! (But think of the children....)

  9. Oh, regarding the Asser Levy pool, I think most of the white Oval sunbathers, who probably consider themselves cool and "progressive," wouldn't be caught dead there because the pool crowd is largely made up of Hispanics and African Americans. Same reason some of them hustle over to Oval Fitness and overpay for the privilege, when they can walk a block up north and use the Asser Levy gym for only $75 a year.

  10. The only time the playgrounds aren't for children is when the NY Post does a photo shoot of skanktards. The sprinklers are not there for the people in Mollot's photo.

  11. I never claimed that StuyTownReporter took this photo, but only alluded to his "voyeuristic eye," something which his (her?) comment "us guys get an eyeful that's a joy to behold!!!" seems to confirm. Does Town & Villager have a website? If so, can you link it, please? Doesn't show up in Google, and I'd be eager to read anything that tries to present a balanced view of the issues here, and can get the ear of Tishman-Speyer. As far as any other facts I've gotten wrong on my "BS blog," I'd love to hear.

  12. Hmm, you are confused, aren't you, Supporter? Since I made the "eyeful" comment AFTER your "voyeuristic eye" comment, what made you suppose that I had such a voyeuristic eye that would be watching these Oval dipping beauties?

As for what you got wrong on your blog, don't you read the comments there? Surprised you even got one? Yes, it's there! Check it and see!

  13. Oh, and to note for the others here, you infer on your blog that rent stabilized tenants pay rents here of $400 to $500 per month. That is so incorrect that the value of your blog, as a place where some kind of truth may be found, is nil.

  14. And also, SupportHose, there are no rent controlled apartments here. You're proof that anyone can buy a computer and anyone can have a blog. I guess since you have nothing else to do but write your spew it's not your weekend for the kids. It's so nice though that they each have a desk. Now that's luxury.

  15. I was talking to one of the plumbers with the black shirts and he told me they don't regulate the water for people. They just throw in as much chlorine as possible so that the water stays clean.

SOMEONE SHOULD CALL THE CITY HEALTH INSPECTOR.

Also does TS post what they put into that thing???

  16. Wow yeah, I love this discussion about who's voyeuristic eye was on the Oval-dipping beauties... Gotta add my two to the mix...

And sure the sprinklers aren't there for the adults in the pic but couldn't we all just get along and enjoy the beautiful Summer day and view for once, I'm sure the kids can handle it

  17. The outdoor Asser Levy Pool is very nice. On weekends it is too crowded. If you want to do laps they have lap swimmining in the early morning and evenings ,Mon thru Fri (call for exact times) There are different lanes based on swimming ability and it is generally not crowded.

  18. Since this seems to be a good source of info on the Asser Levy pool - when's the best time to take a 4-5 y.o. over so dad can give her some swimming lessons?

  19. The outdoor pool tends to get crowded during the summer (which is when it's open), so I don't know the best time to go there when less people are around. Probably opening time, though I don't know when that time would be. As mentioned, weekends are going to be crowded the most. Non-summer, the indoor pool is open (it's closed now)--and only to members, so there's far less people making use of it. I've seen many parents teaching their kids how to swim at this indoor pool.
