Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures

I can't think of a better time to be had than kicking the kids out of Playground 10 and watching televised football outside from 12-8pm. I guess it's a better use of Stuy Town personnel than dealing with furniture dumping and the poor interior maintenance of buildings! And there just have to be a couple of artisanal food trucks around. Way to go! And pump up the volume, boys! Make the ground shake. We need to feel every grunt and tackle!

Update. The question of broadcast copyright laws has been brought up, and here are some links of interest, so that people can make there own determination.

  1. If only they'd direct some of their energy in productive directions. Each new idea is dopier than the last. Everyone should do a rain dance. Rose makes me sick.

  2. Missing from the promo" "grab a beer."

If this is not a direct marketing ploy (and a very sad one as well) to the transient tenant, then WTF is. The carnival was, as I suspected, just smoke and mirrors for the real tenant type of tenant that CW/Rose wants. Woo Hoo indeed.

  3. Maybe we should all get up a petition or a letter-writing campaign to CWC to get rid of Rose because they are a totally abysmal failure as a property manager. Apart from the stupidity in the Oval with the food trucks, carnivals and now this shit, they have proven over and over to be totally useless when it comes to maintaining the property as a decent place to live. They have inundated us with immature "students" whose parents probably just threw money their way as a substitute for real caring and now we have to deal with them. We need to organize and petition CWC to get rid of Rose and pressure the TA into applying for a rollback and reduction in rent because we are getting virtually no service and the property is being misused and its value lowered by the day courtesy of Rose. I didn't sign a lease to live in a dorm and I expect some basic standards of cleanliness and peace and quiet in return for paying my rent and abiding by my lease.

  4. I received this email as well and wondered if Rose will allow alcohol drinking in the children's playground. I can't wait for oval casino.

  5. An event like this takes Stuyvesant Town as far away from a family oriented neighborhood as possible. Using a children's playground to host a beer swilling football party is simply classless. Rose keeps pushing the lines of propriety and decency in order to pander to their desired tenancy.

How ironic that events like this would actually be sanctioned by the management after they worked so hard, and for so many years to maintain proper public behavior.

  6. WTF are these people smoking?

There's got to be a law against this!

  7. Law? Well, there ARE laws....

  8. That same type of law hasn't stopped Ovalfilm.

  9. US Code Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 110 is called "Limitations on exclusive rights: exemption of certain performances and displays," and it lays out 12 of these exemptions to copyright restrictions. Are 55+ inch TVs mentioned specifically? They certainly are.

TV broadcasts and movie showings can only be displayed so long as "no such audiovisual device has a diagonal screen size greater than 55 inches, and any audio portion of the performance or display is communicated by means of a total of not more than 6 loudspeakers." So there it is in black and white—a ban on big TVs!

  10. As one commenter said, nothing stopped Oval Film. How do we stop this football event? Can it be done?

  11. Someone please send a copy of this event
    to the NFL...

  12. Let's petition the NFL to stop this garbage!

Someone call their media department and let
    them know this is happening.

  13. I have emailed to the NFL all of the ugly details. Everyone, pls join the party as well.

  14. You guys are not going to like the following news, but it is illegal to deny an apartment applicant because of their age. Anyone who applies with decent credit, under New York State and City law, must be accepted. So please explain how Rose is supposed to prevent young people from renting apartments. Who do you think rents apartments in the rest of Manhattan?

    ReplyDelete
  15. No one is talking about denying young people apartments. It's about Rose (and previously Tishman Speyer) specifically and overwhelmingly targeting a certain type of potential renter.

  16. They can't vacuum my hallway but they money for this.

  17. Incompetent Rose couldn't enforce the dog rules so they changed them; couldn't enforce the cyclists on the property rules, so they changed them; couldn't enforce the garbage dumping rules, so they changed them. I don't think it will be too long before they say it is officially ok to have no carpets, make as much noise as you can, hang pictures, assemble furniture and party all night long because it is impossible to enforce rules about those behaviors. What a bunch of losers. We really need to petiton CWCap to get rid of them and replace them with a property manager who really manages!

    1. MyFirstNYapt.com which they only recently took down.

    2. Pizza boxes with Stuyvesant Town branding on them being used locally.

    3. Rock concerts in the Oval during the summer.

    4. Marketing materials that do not reflect a variety of ages.

People over the age of 30 see right through this and say "no thanks"!

  19. I don't understand why there is so much hatred here on this board. I think this could be a fun event that provides a sense of community and fosters interaction amongst neighbors. We have lived here for over ten years and my husband and I have enjoyed meeting people at events like this in addition to meeting others through our children in playgrounds and at their school (PS40)- I'd like more of them.

  20. Says someone who drinks at noon on the childrens playground.

  21. 6:47 works for Rose no doubt. Tenants don't hit all the right talking points.
